REVIEWS OF Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame IN Massachusetts

C Tedesco

We decided to take the kids to the baseball and basketball halls of fame this summer. Baseball was first so set the bar high. The basketball hall of fame was just ok. I was surprised at how low the quality of the hall of inductees was vs. the main hall which commemorates each inductee in Cooperstown; and there could be a lot more done to celebrate the history of the game. It is going through a renovation currently so hopefully it will see a step up in the quality of the experience.

Godfrey Redfearn

Never visited a Hall of Fame for sports so was not sure what to expect. They did a nice job with the bronze basketball shoes in the floor so you could see how small you are compared to them. The kickoff video was quite good. The basketball courts were a treat and fun to try in the peach basket. It was nice to look at all the history and the way it was a bit cylindrical. A good place to run through in a couple of hours or so as part of an overall visit to Springfield.

Eric Midder

It is much better after all the renovations. All basketball fans need to come visit but make sure it's not in the winter unless you like snow!

John Montgomery

Don’t let the “strip-mall” exterior scare you. Inside is the entire history of basketball very well displayed. Could have spent all day there.

Jacob Roman

Awesome expierence. Just being able to feel the energy of the Hall of Famers, looks great.

Nick Huang

A must go if you’re an NBA fan . They have all the history of this beloved game and has a lot of engaging activities inside . From pop a shot to an actual hardwood floor to shoot hoops on, there’s plenty to do! I paid $22 with my AAA card discount but regular price is $24 and you’re free to stay or leave and return all day . This was my second time coming and felt it was worth to stop by since my last visit to the east coast . Hope to see this place continue to add more things and keep it as historic and as modern as it is now.

Rhonda Andreani

I had the chance to visit the Basketball Hall of fame and the MLB hall of fame in the same weekend. While baseball was the sport I followed more as a child, I actually liked the overall museum experience at the Basketball Hall of Fame better. Keep in mind that this is the Basketball Hall of Fame and not the NBA Hall of Fame. While most of the materials are for the NBA, there are players for the WNBA in here as well.

Karen Ross

Was under construction when we visited, so they gave discounted ticket prices. Yet there was still so much to see. Awesome place.

Alok Verma

Excellent HOF/Museum experience. But a bit over priced.

badiab jake

not just the hall of fame, this place is great

Robert Brown

A great place to visit, a very worthwhile experience. Though it looks like a lot of artifacts weren't displayed when we went because of renovations.

W.Sabrina-Thandeswa El'X

Clean & serene. Great space.

Ian Moore

I loved the basketball history.. But a lot smaller than you would be expecting.. There's more memorabilia they couldve displayed..

Sean Park

I loved it as a teen, but for little children, it might not be the best. There is a basketball court, interactive basketball stations, and more. There isn’t much History than the interactive things. It was fun overall, and probably will come again after the renovation

Elie Klein

I brought my brother who's a basketball fan and we loved it. The staff is super friendly and the display of history through all the three floors is amazing. We really enjoyed it!

Garrick Infanger

Very poor. Incredibly expensive. Layout is terrible. Even the film was nothing more than a 10-minute ad. So much history they could have unpacked like Texas Western, Pat Summit, Len Bias, or Magic-Bird. Some of the interactive exhibits were broken or worked poorly. No progression as you work through the museum. Just random stuff around each corner. Pass on this one.

Sherri Casey

I learn something new every time I go. The amount that the Hall of Fame gives back is incredible. The environment is always happy, interactive, and fun.

Karen Roberts

Very fun place to visit! Friendly staff, inexpensive, many hands on activities to try and have fun with, awesome displays and tons of information to read. If you're a basketball fan this is a must see and it's definitely fun place for all ages!

Robert Liu

Interesting place, actually found this place looking for a rest stop right off the highway and just pulled up here

Lonny Paige

Must see for basketball fans and holy ground for KU fans

Ken Anstett

Such a cool place ....so much for the kids and parents....

TheAlfredo852

Excellent beefs and great wine! Friendly services

Tom O'Connor

If I am reviewing the Hall of Fame and it's staff, it's a solid 4 or 5 star. Really awesome interactive stuff for kids. It was cool to see an interview and get an autograph from slam dunk champ Hamidou Diallo. 4 stars (my wife thought it was a little overpriced for adults). But, what was most disheartening was that after 2 months of The Raptors winning the NBA championships there was not one piece of Raptors' merchandise. One of the staff said "we've never had any Raptors' stuff"...another employee quickly said "we had some pennants!". Seriously, most other teams were represented...for crying out loud there was loads of Knicks stuff! But, nothing for the championship team? I'm willing to bet that last year there was Golden State championship stuff, but not this year. Toronto is used to bring treated like a second-class team, but in a museum that is named after a Canadian the irony was not lost. In fact, I thought it was a bit insulting.

Kemona Palmer

Great place to visit for basketball fanatics!

William Mallon

Amazing experience for any fan of the game. The price of $24 for an adult was a pleasant surprise. The staff was top notch and welcoming. Lots of interactive activities.I will be back after the most recent renovations are completed in 2020.

Thomas Cavanaugh

Pretty cool place.

Marco Estevam

Lots of fun, fair price and I probably shot hoops for too long at the end

Nadine Barnett

Also, from the outside as well, the basketball museum is shaped in the form of a round circle like a basketball. It certainly stands out as you drive along the road towards the parking lot. The museum is named after the founder of professional basketball, James Naismith.

Jesse Robbins

Just a good overall experience and education of the history of the game and NBA. You can view everything in an hour or so.

Alexander Soto

Great experience.. Lots of activities, games and things to do. Entrance is worth it and can get AAA discount... Ask for any other you might qualify. Alex

Erica Stevens

Even if you don't love basketball, you will still LOVE this place! If you know someone who loves basketball, they will LOVE LOVE to come visit here! It was fun!!!

saul lones

Great visit for anyone that loves basketball.

Ivita

Not much to do with young ones, unless you spend the day in the 2nd floor.

Charlotte Busbee

A great place for any basketball enthusiast. Interaction, courts, paraphernalia, and a nice gift shop with a price range for any budget.

mike mathe

Came from Michigan to the hall. Been to all 4 sports and the rock an roll hall of fame and the basketball hall is at the bottom of the list, first floor is a basketball court, 2nd floor has the displays, the 3rd floor has photos of all the members with a short bio of them. Was in and out in an hour. The gift shop was o.k., a little high priced but that was expected. Not a lot to choose from in the gift shop.

Carmelo Eleutiza

Very well done, you should see it.

Joseph Williams

Very interesting and informative, we had a great time.

Ninja 2005

Very nice place to go learn about the history of basketball.

Cynthia Davis

Security visible if concern about leaving your car parked. Good place to visit

Bruce Green

Good but toilet seat would not stay up,when a guy was peeing, need 3 hands

sabby Sabby

Nice place to take pictures. A couple of eatery areas. Overall nice place.

Devon Thornton

Got to spend time with my daughter. She didn't understand it to much she's only 6, but the time was priceless.........had a great day.

Gail Dupuis

I didn't go all the way in. The doors and windows were very very dirty. Lots of employees standing around could have been cleaning those windows and doors.

Shannon Dawkins

Nice museum although a little pricey: $25 per person entrance fee [15-years old and up]..$15 ages 5 - 15..5 and under free. Three floors to see - including an open court to play.

Matt Hurst

Kind of old. Not that interactice. The basketball court was the highlight. 25.00 for an adult is way too much

Chris Bynoe

A great place where every basketball should get to at some point. Bring your sneakers as you can shoot around on an open court.

Jacob S

Awesome. Great tribute to Dr James A. Naismith and the wonderful game of Basketball.

Krystal Couse

This was an amazing location to have a private event. The staff are amazing.

Aaron Whalen

Awesome experience. So many cool things to look at.

Nathan Marshall

For such a beautiful sport, the Hall of Fame is Very underwhelming in its display of basketball. The only thing that is saving this from being a one star review is that they cut the price. They do this because they are under going renovations. Instead of having a grand Hall of Fame like Cooperstown New York does, they rely too heavily on simple interactive experiences and video clips. All in all Bill Simmons was correct when he says that this is the worst Hall of fame for any of the big 4 sports

Samantha

Fantastic place to visit. A short and sweet video greats you, then you can explore the hall. They have so much information and memorabilia. There's interactive exhibits on the second floor to keep kids interested and engaged. On the ground floor..... play basketball!!! You can also visit the gift shop and choose a place to eat right inside. We had a great time here!

Ryan Roberts

This is a great place to *experience* the game of basketball. All the history you could want with live presentations by former NBA greats. Interactive exhibits include virtual basketball, how high can you jump, grab the rebound and become a sports telecaster. All topped off by a court on the main level to shoot around and try out the different hoops styles through the ages. It a tad bit on the pricey side for the whole family, but if you enjoy basketball, it's a must see.

Emily Bongiorno

Got a t shirt from the gift shop and learned alot about the history of basketball that I didnt know !! Definitely recommend!!

Mo Genao

It was fun n I learned alot bout basketball. It is a museum n a court wit basketball activity

Brendan Lynch

Great place to see basketball history, and get a bit to eat. With a few good restaurants

varun kaushik

Great place to spend the day. We spent most of our time on the basketball courts and the 2 nd floor. The actual Hall of Fame was a bit boring but it was still interesting to look at. The service is amazing and the people who work their really know a lot about basketball.

Raymond Maynard

Came here for a work function. Was catered by the restaurant on site. Amazing facilities and food. One of the few must see attractions in Springfield.

Jabari Wash

I would have liked to see more Stephen curry info.

Jacquee Wilson

Lots of interesting basketball history AND I got to see Robert Parish!

Mike Cuccia

Wow! Really feel the love of basketball! Where it all began. Where its at. where its going! Can't wait to go back! Hoops forever!!

Ben Koehler

All I have to say is that it is a great place for all ages

Joe Concannon

My 18 year old son really enjoyed it. But I thought that there was very little to see. I paid $50 for admission for the 2 of us, and we saw everything thing there was in about an hour. A lot of the space is currently under renovation, so maybe it will improve. His favorite part was shooting hoops on the big basketball court downstairs.

ronald pettit

Nice museum for the history of basketball. Unfortunately no drop off point for handicap school bus. Can't use first parking lot so if you use second parking to drop off there's no parking for buses

Dark Black

Very nice institution. I found out its a Non Profit and they have donations from former players except players like Magic Johnson.

Craig Bigger

This is my go to spot for taking a bathroom break while going through Springfield. Nice place. Not sure about the rest

Nick LeRoy

This place was OK. There's a lot of cool famous memorabilia and a full NBA basketball court in the middle of the museum, but there is a LOT that needs to be updated (i.e. many exhibits, labels on things, plaques)!

Diane Lareau

Great place. Interesting interaction.

Boris Bates

State of the art facility. If you are a true basketball fan, then you have to visit. The visit has both an entertainment and educational value for visitors. Go learn the history and impact that Dr. James Naismith and the YMCA had on the sport that is known and loved all over the world as basketball.

Margie Rivera

Came here for a Christian meeting for future Evangelical rally May 25th 2019 at the Big E.. and it was great. Atmosphere was awesome bathrooms were nice and clean space where the meeting took place was spacious for the amount of people that attended.

Noel A Santiago

Great experience for any basketball

Gokhan Kahveci Finans

Samuel's bar nice place

Cesare Cassara

A wonderful family place to visit. Had lots of fun with my kids and would recommend for all to come and enjoy.

Tomeka Ligon

If your big on basketball history then this is the place for you. Great place to raid if you are a PoGo player

Ernesto Perez

Fun place for all ages. Something to visit in Springfield that you can't miss.

Jonathan Feliciano

Great place in a great location. Undergoing changed as they remodel. Some missing memorabilia however.

Max Mandel

As a huge basketball fan, I was disappointed. Very small, was not what I expected at all. The restaurants are bigger then the museum itself.

Yousef Manzoor

So much history so much culture they also host job events and they are very active in the community

Francis Jette

I really enjoyed my visit at the hall of fame. My favorite part was that we could shoot in the peach basket! Something I really wanted to try wich feels really different than shooting on a traditional basketball board.

Juan.Lozado Calderon

Very beautiful place foot basketball player and everybody beautiful

Kimberly Scott

The pride and joy of New England and specifically Springfield

Logan Lucile

At first looks pretty regular on the outside; since it is bordered with other stores on both sides. As you walk in it gets really exciting. Nice staff with lots of stories. The only downside from my perspective is focuses too much on contributor, coaches and broadcasters. The players are the reason for this I believe; also not enough attention on James Naismith. Lol

Kathy Anderson

A must for basketball fans! So rich in history.

Neil Neukam

Expected much more with the history of basketball. It was okay, but not worth going too far out of the way, in my opinion.

Brody Leinweber

Neat place to scratch off the bucket list, but probably wont be going back.

Mike Davis

Worth the price of admission! Plan on spending up to two hours here, lots of interactive items, shooting hoops on a basketball court, and admiring all things basketball. Bonus - Great history lesson about how the game began and how it's evolved ever since. Good post-visit restaurants nearby too. Bring very good walking shoes - you'll be need it.

Brendan Sullivan

Went here as part of a business function, but was an interesting hall of fame. There was lots of information about the players and coaches, was also interesting to see how the game evolved over the years. There is plenty of free parking, there is also lots of food locations around if you want to make a day of it.

Ulpia Stephens

Great staff, lots to read, see and do.

Naomi Kg

Exhibition was great!/staff were very friendly. Kids will enjoy it too.

Mariena Silvestry Ramos

Fun for the whole family. College, NBA, and WNBA inductees are recognized here. Easy to walk around and great activities for the whole family. During the summer they invite a HOF for a conversation. Very welcoming and friendly staff.

Yonnel Olivo

Had a lot of fun. I recommend everyone to go and experience this place.

juss Neice

Great place to learn about the basketball God's. They even let you shoot around on the court

Chris Gatautis

Great time. My kids loved playing basketball on the different hoops.

mark petschke

History of planes live & in person! Simply amazing to view

Christopher Burke

Kids could have shot hoops all day. We loved all the interactive exhibits.

Jarad Root

Pretty cool, nothing that blew me away but it was cool to walk around for a few min to waste some time.

Doug Warry

Great place to go and spend a few hours and see the history of basketball. They offer AAA, Military and Mass. Teachers discount on tickets. Can order tickets online. HoF has places to eat right there. Gift shop has some good buys. Best part is being able to shoot hoops on the court or see how high you can get to dunk.

Aneela

So fun! There’s just enough interactive things for kids to enjoy and adults too! The hall of fame is pretty cool!

Giovanna Marshall

Cute place to visit with kids.

DJ Rodriguez

Small museum housed in strip mall. Museum can be covered easily in under 1 hour. Some of the best exhibits are free in the lobby.

Karen Marlar

Everything you could want to know about basketball

Lee Williams

Great experience. A bucket list visit if you are a hoops fan.

Lawrence Kelley

If you love basketball, this is the place for you .

Evan Reynolds

Very fun, and great information on some of the best basketball players ever. Nice place to take your family if interested in basketball.

Marcos Jiminez

Good place to go for basketball fans with the family

Kenny

I was disappointed . You would think it would be better by the size of the building.

Steven Montepeque

Basketball is my all-time favorite sport, so I was looking forward to visiting the Naismith Memorial. Content - the content was phenomenal. There is more information than you could possibly take in during one visit. Experience - the employees knew what they were doing and were very helpful. Building - overall, this was the only downside. Much of the building was old and in need of some tlc. You can tell that they have made some renovations but there is a lot to improve. Overall, I did enjoy my visit. I spent about 2 hours during my visit.

Justin Kowalski

Good museum with some fun attractions like the virtual dunk game. Great bars and a cold stone creamery attached to the building so you don't even have to go outside to get there

Josh Wittenberg

Very cool. Under rated... a must if you love sports

Jovaney Toledo

Great place for tourist. Reasonably priced and cool landmark!

Gilbert Vasquez

I was very surprised that it was just a three story place. First floor is a court, second floor are pictures of all the inductees. The third floor is really the one where you have all the history so to speak.. It was a really nice place but I wouldn't go outta my way to go visit, anf I'm a huge basketball fan

Alma J Scott

It's a good treat and education for everyone that loves basketball

Chris Thompson

Disappointed it's not a stand-alone facility and part of a building development, e.g., Subway near entrance. Power to HOF was out when we got there. Place was closed. Eventually they opened and let us in for free.

Xersis Dastur

You would want to visit this place if you're a Toronto Raptors fan

Jay C

Basket Ball fans will like this place. Pubs and Eateries with hotels conveniently located

Christopher Hernandez

If your in the city be it your first time or briefly I highly recommend the hall of fame be a bucket list stop especially during enshrinement where could see the legends fill the city in the summertime definitely lots of fun and basketball to go around in the summer

Bagel Pucks

Very cool Museum. The basketball court is a blast.

Stephen Stryhalaleck

I had not been since I was a little kid, but great for the family. Not outrageously priced and just big enough for the kids to enjoy and not feel overwhelmed.

Sean Nunes

I expected it to be alot better then it actually was. Definitely a one time visit for me and I definitely dont think it's worth the admission price to get into it. Huge building but very little to see.

Michael Mendez

Ball is life. But seriously if you like basketball in the slightest go there with your family and enjoy. Amazing place for anyone but especially if you love the game. I was a kid in a candy shop.

Lawrence Miranda

Attended event sponsored by Harvard Pilgrim & Boston Celtics. Enjoyable evening. Visited Hall many years ago, now in new building with many exhibits, memorabilia, and interactive displays. Must see for basketball fans everywhere.

Buck

This place is got to be good, it's very popular. Usually visit Max Tavern when I'm in that area, cocktails.

D. Graham Curry

Goes very wide but not super deep on any era or person. Some fun interactive exhibits but it was under renovation so I'm sure we missed some things.

raymond merced

Great for kids. Mine sure had fun.

Cece Oliver

Love this place. My 5 yr old son stood on the basketball court the entire time that we were there.

Nick

Nice place very interactive and extremely awesome memorabilia. Worth the admission if you love basketball.

JT AllUpInIt

The Hall of Fame is amazing. There is so much rich history of the sport packed into a small package here. If you have the opportunity to come to an enshrinement you won't be disappointed. Lots to do and see mixed with great restaurants and lodging all on the same land. Check for discounts and events in advance so you can enjoy the experience. Some of the exterior is under renovation but the inside is open for business.

Michael

Great place to visit if you love basketball. Price a little steep but discount for AAA/CAA members. Parking is free. Need at least two hours to try the interactive games, read up on some stats and enjoy some time on the basketball court. Interactive screens are a must where you can select a player and there are videos to watch or stats to review. No backpacks allowed in the hall of fame. You can always check out the entrance area for free which has a few memorabilia to see.

Sabrina Walley

Very nice museum showcasing the history of basketball. It does a decent job of shining a light on women's basketball, but nowhere in comparison to men's. I didn't see the 15min video, but I feel like if I did I'd have done it at the end. There aren't many places to sit when you get to the top floor, so go through the museum, play some ball in the court (ground level), and THEN go watch the video to take a rest if you so choose.

Daniel Colton

It had a lot of great information

Angela L

A lot of basketball history in 1 place. Hope to re-visit after the renovations are complete.

Allan Crocker

Was kind of a letdown...went on a rainy day and there were countless leaks in the ceiling raining down on the floor and displays. Staff is VERY friendly and accommodating and the courts inside are a nice touch for everyone to play. Gift shop had a limited variety of Jerseys to pick from.

Minerva Jones

I guess if I was a real fan I would give it more stars. I was bored.

Tiffany Marrow

As a basketball fan, I enjoyed this museum. I gave it 4 stars because there was construction at the time of my visit. However, it was still open to the public, though some areas were blocked because of the construction.

Cassandra Lambert

I'm not a big basketball buff, but my boyfriend is and he loved it. I enjoyed how much history and objects of history it showed. It had different ways of learning about the history from TVs, interactions, games, objects to look and some to touch. I enjoyed that fact they actually had a court you could play on after looking at everything.

The Real Claire O

Cool if u like basketball

Henry Geter

I visited this place in August of'18: This landmark has very informative details ranging from the players, through the coaches and of the game itself. The displays inside the museum portion of it are worth the observation; the gift shop and some eateries within the site are also convenient. This place, as all other notable landmarks, has the amenities suitable for all ages. P.S. My apologies for double photo posting; that function from my device had issues. ----actual post: June 2019

James Baker

Always fun visiting here! Basketball history galore!! #jamesthemortgageguy

Lorinda Ravo

We're visited the basketball HOF on a Saturday morning/ afternoon and the first thing that we noticed was how it wasn't overcrowded... perhaps because it was graduation weekend at most of the area colleges, but it was a pleasant surprise. There is an intro movie that runs every 20 minutes, and it's a good place to start, bringing back memories of some of the magical moments in the sport. The lobby area has memorabilia of some of the greats: Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Scotty Pippen, and more. Inside, you are taken to the third floor so that you can start on the ring of fame and then work your way down. Ring of fame has bios of players, coaches, and contributors who have been inducted, along with interesting artifacts: Olympic medals, shoes, etc. Second level pays homage to some players, outstanding broadcasters, coaches, and collegiate players and coaches. Bottom level is center court where kids and adults alike can show off their game as they shoot at the many baskets that encircle the room. It's also home to the Museum store where one can purchase team merchandise. There are several restaurants in the complex which makes it easy to enjoy the experience, eat, and get on to your next destination. Easy on and off from highway and plenty of free parking.

Carlos Torres

It was a great experience

Cindy Carley

Great place to visit to reminisce on some historical moments in American History. Not only that, they host various events that are fun and engaging! They have even hosted Job Fairs at their location, to enable Springfield and Western Mass residents to become gainfully employed! Also, they have great restaurants and the LOVELY Cold Stone Creamery, which makes EXCELLENT yet expensive ice cream!

John Flathers

Great place to learn the history of basketball

Brian Dible

This hall of fame was mediocre compared to the baseball and football hall of fame. I've wanted to check all three off for awhile. Kinda feel it was overpriced for the limited stuff you will see.

Matt Hiserodt

This is the third hall of fame I've visited (hockey and football the other two) and I'd probably rank it #3 in terms of quality and value. I brought my family of 5 and it was over $60. The "hall" part itself with the players was poorly laid out and didn't really give you much information about them. Some of the other exhibits were neat and interactive. We ended up only spending about an hour and a half there and that was a stretch as we spent a lot down at the basketball court. If you are a huge basketball fan then of course you need to stop, but there really isn't much here.

Michael Martin

Great event, great food, great entertainment.

Monica Matos

Fun place filled with all the greats of Basketball. Close to Antonio's Grinders in Springfield so we hopped over and weren't disappointed.

Rose StallworthJones

Oh my 0ne of the most beautiful attractions to visit when you visit western mass...

Peter Engle

Big space but not a ton of exhibits. Awesome looking from the outside.

Bev Peña

Although they display valuable memorabilia and history on one of the most popular sports, it is very small, many areas that are blocked off for "remodeling". I think if my son had not played around shooting hoops for a little bit, the "exhibit" is about 30min tops! Completely overrated, super expensive for the content, or lack there of. $25 for adults, $16 for kids. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!!!! COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. My son had been looking forward to the visit for so long and it was a total disappointment. Bring the kids somewhere else

Evelyn Scruggs

Actually haven't been here in yrs but had a blast

Keisha Hylton

Great food, AWESOME customer service

Justin Powell

Not as much to see as I would have liked. The full court with historical baskets is cool.

Sheryl Hubbard

Very interesting place. Lots of basketball history right up to the present time

Kathy Miller

Rich history. Very cool seeing players jerseys and shoes. Basketball court you can play at. NBA players make appearances

Angela Siana

The staff was so helpful and pleasant. Great visit!

Brayden Lowe

If you like basketball, this place is unreal. Filled with history and tons of cool items, as well as interactive displays and significant artifacts from the games greatest moments. Definitely worth checking out if you are near Springfield.

D. C.

I enjoyed this place! Staff was friendly. If you love basketball a great place to visit.

PAUL YUNG

Positive 1st: free parking, fast Wi-Fi. Negative: no trophies, lacking on memorabilia, no background history, didn't see any championship rings, take about an hour. Most expensive $25 I ever spent. Compare to Cooperstown, I can only give it a maximum of 1 star.

Shannon Bauer

Great experience. Loved the interactive stuff but it wasn't all geared for kids. Just wish they had more sixers and Villanova stuff. Informative and fun. Wasn't overwhelming with information - and could see it all in a couple hours.
