This place is gorgeous! One of my favorite John Singer Sargent's paintings is here and they have a great collection of Renoir! I highly recommend this museum!

David Morris

I'm only giving it 5 stars because the scale doesn't go higher. Wonderful paintings and sculptures. Even the building is a work of art. A must see!

Sandra Patlan

This museum is beautiful. Its surrounded by nothing but green, and theres cows. Theres a nice place to sit outside and relax, you can see cows in the distance. Honestly, I dont see a reason why someone wouldn't want to go.

After seeing the construction of the new center last summer and reading articles about the completed project, I looked forward to visiting last Saturday. I was not disappointed. The new Clark Center and the reopened Museum are strikingly beautiful and the artwork is shown well. My only observations are that you approach the large doors in the Center and concourse to the Museum without knowing how they open so you are left to guess if you should pull or push them open. It was somewhat awkward. On a more substantive note, the open area and reflecting pool seem to want to serve as a public square yet the space is so minimalist and the relation of the buildings, pool and landscape so beautiful that I almost felt like an interloper. Without necessarily introducing food trucks or the like, some additional seating or tables with the white umbrellas spread around the space (near the Museum building and the Manton Center) might soften the space and pull the buildings together. Finally I wish more had been done to bring the Manton Center into the conversation of the Center and Museum around the reflecting pool and outdoor area. It stands as a solid block of a building off to the side. A few strategically placed trees might soften its blank walls but somehow it should feel included in the wonderful outside space. A great experience and worth the visit.

Wonderful permanent collection We visited in August 2015 to see the Van Gogh exhibit. We knew the exhibit would be mobbed when we had to park on a public street and walk a half mile to the Clark. It was hard to see the art with the crowds in the exhibit. Moving to the galleries with the permanent exhibit was a breath of fresh air. Their collection rivals anything I've seen in museums in Washington, DC.

The Clark Art Institute is a gem of a museum near the Berkshires. Though the museum isn't as large as others in major cities, it has great temporary exhibits throughout the year and many impressive permanent ones as well. The museum grounds are also very beautiful and during the warmer months are fun to walk around on. This museum is a must see if you're in the area and is well worth the admission fee to support it.

The Clark isn't just a must visit gallery and museum, it also happens to be a super stunning and modern wedding venue. I'm a photographer located in Southern Berkshire County, and I've had the privilege to work at the Clark several times over the last couple years. Everything about the place is top notch... the food, the staff, the grounds, everything! There are several incredible ceremony locations, and when the weather is good, there is nothing like cocktails next to the reflecting pools. I've also visited the museum a couple of times as a guest, and the $20 admission fee is absolutely worth the price. (pro tip: First Sunday of the month is FREE, and some of our local libraries have free passes!)

Google has wrong information!! CLARK MUSEUM IS NOT OPEN EVERY DAY as Google says. It is closed on Monday. Only on July & August is it open every day!!! We drove for 40" to get here on an October Monday. I was able to go inside and report the incorrect infotmation. The museum said they could not change what was on the net because that was google's information. WOULD GOOGLE PLEASE correct this info so no more people make the same mistake we did?

This definitely the hidden gem of New England museums. The expansive permanent exhibition of European paintings is stellar. Of particular note is the impressionist collection which boasts multiple works by Renoir, Monet, Cassett, Pisarro, and others. The grounds are amazing and worth exploring before or after your visit into the museum proper.

Leo Fialho

An incredible art institution with plenty of nature hikes in between exhibits/buildings. Don't miss the Crystal!

The art collection is superb. The new building is a disaster, both architecturally and functionally. A case of the Emperor’s new clothes?

The grounds alone are worth the visit. The Clark had excellent special exhibitions. Never disappointed by a visit to the Berkshire for some art.

Buildings are set in beautiful picturesque setting. Stunning grounds. Some truly amazing artwork, including Monet, Renoit, Degas, and various American artists as well. 4 star instead of 5 due to the $20 entry fee for such a small museum. Students are free. It is high quality so I would recommend a visit.

The atmosphere is cold and austere . One is greeted by slabs of granite, no flowers, no murals. Inside, the same, especially in the basement. Cold concrete walls. Lack of handicap accessible doors is a big problem. Why are they allowed to get away with this deficiency? Signage for the displays is poor. Way too small. One of my favorite museums is the Peabody Essex. 5 stars.

Geraldine Russel-Lalli

I love those paintings, especially, the sculptors!

Gunther Cox

This is a wonderful art museum. The organization of the exhibits paints a clear picture of the different styles of painting that occur in different countries of the world. In addition, I also found that the bathroom facilities were remarkably clean.

Nicole H

Beautiful collection, beautiful location, truly peaceful and invigorating experience

Jennifer Prushko

Beautiful location, beautiful artwork and a fantastic experience. Do not miss!

A wonderful museum. I went in August and I have been looking online and planning my next visit.

This is a supurb art museum especially for 19th century art.

Sabrina Wang

beautiful architecture and nice space.

Rui Coelho

Exquisite collection of world renowned art. The juxtaposition of the original building with the modem addition is remarkable. The temporary Picasso exhibit paces you thru the artist's life.

Sandra Foyt

Make a day of it: start with a delightful lunch onsite at Cafe 7, continue with a thought-provoking art exhibit, and finish with a brisk walk on scenic trails around the institute.

The grounds are a work of art of their own.

Drove 3 hours from Boston and only had time to bask in Janet Cardiff’s Forty Part Motet sound installation before closing time — it was worth it!! Vibrato-free a cappella polyphony is glorious.

Almost overwhelming to the senses. From the sound installation, to the Renoir's, the outdoor sitting area by the pools, the hike up the meadow - just an unbelievable experience. I had no idea what to expect - I had heard great things, but The Clark far exceeded all expectations.

Liz Csordas

Absolutely love this museum. Amazing history and collection. Jack Madden is a wonderful docent and shared a lot of great detail with my friend and me.

So i came here for the Sargents but was blown away by the rest of the works. Art from the renaissance to the impressionists; Particularly the impressionists. But great examples of Rembrandt, Rodin, Turner, Constable, Remington, Homer. Alma-tadama. The Clarks really had an eye for great pieces. Lots of decorative arts too. Check out the piano with gorgeous wood inlays. Beautiful grounds with lovely triple level pool. Striking contemporary architecture. Cafe has a small but tasty menu. THERE IS LOTS OF ART HERE SO LEAVE LOTS OF TIME TO TAKE IT ALL IN.

Michael Dunn

Drove out to see the visiting Magna Carta. Did not expect the gem that we found.

David Rhoads

We had a great time. We attended a lecture by the curator of the Picasso exhibit on his printing. The Clark is an amazing place, beautiful building, beautiful grounds and a superb collection. We very eager to see the Picasso exhibit!

An ivy league level art museum serving Williams college, one of the best art schools in the world, Surrounded with gorgeous curated forest and grassy hilled parks to explore and hang out or chill in! They really got everyone's attention when they featured the original British Magna Carta.

A bit out of the way, but very much worth the drive. Wonderful permanent exhibit.

Visiting the Clark Museum is a sublime experience; the artwork and historical pieces there are simply stunning. My personal favorite piece of work was the book made from the mud of many different rivers worldwide, by Richard Long. The 19th century Steinway piano was also beautiful, whose decoration was designed by the English painter Lawrence Alma-Tadema; I believe it is the most expensive piano ever made! A young gentleman working at the museum knew a lot about it and we got into a conversation. The Clark is definitely worth a visit!

I am absolutely in love with this museum. Their collection is so impressive for an area like the Berkshires. It's the perfect size so that you don't feel overwhelmed or drained by too many galleries. The impressionist solarium is my favorite, as are the John Singer Sargent works. The museum isn't cheap for regular admission, so it's nice if you can reserve a library pass. Definitely walk the grounds if you have the chance, and you can visit those trails any time without admission.

Renoir show was incredible and well researched by the tour guide. I loved that the museum had so much lovely outdoor space including hiking trails through woods and pastures. The patio and reflecting pools provide a stunning spot for a rest between exhibits.

Claudio Mendoza

A beautiful setting for a classy art institute with impressive exhibitions. First stop, just by the front desk, is the revealing sound installation "The forty part motet" by Janet Cardiff. Then the main show, "Renoir: the body, the senses", an extensive and well curated study of his nudes. There is plenty more to see from the original binge-shopping expeditions of Stirling and Francine Clark to the Paris of the early 20th century.

Mary Dabrowski

I attended the opening reception for the Renoir exhibit on Friday night. The Clark did an outstanding job. There were refreshments and drinks on the terrace and near the exhibit. All employees, such as the guards and servers, were polite and curtious. The exhibit was wonderful. A truly enjoyable evening!

David Pittelli

This is arguably the greatest medium-sized museum in the world. It would be worth visiting for the Bouguereau masterpiece "Nymphs and Satyr" all by itself. Its family days were also wonderful outings when I lived in the area with young children.

First class museum in a beautiful setting. Not so big that you get overwhelmed.

K X

Free parking. Free admission for students. 20 galleries of many masterpieces, highlighting comprehensive collections of Renoir, Inness, Homer, Garreta, and Alfred Stevens. Also, the Nymphs and Satyr from Bouguereau. Need at least 3 hours to walk through.

I drove out to Williamstown to see Whistler's Mother at Clark Institute and was impressed by the lovely setting and museum tucked into a quiet corner of Massachusetts. I always enjoy museums that give me the opportunity to enjoy the artwork at my own pace, to wander the collections without feeling rushed or crowded, and while this one wasn't empty or echoing, it was a pleasant change from the museums I've visited in big metro areas. Go and enjoy some wonderful American artists in a beautiful setting!

Garth Manor

This is a gem in a remote part of New England. Located in the upper west side corner of Massachusetts at the edge of downtown Williamstown, this museum has a comprehensive gamut of paintings, sculptures and decorative arts ranging from the 14th to early 20th centuries. A walk through the well curated rooms provides a terrific overview of art history. The modern architecture of the extension, and the beautifully landscaped exterior add to the overall experience. A must see if you are in this area.

Shania Celine

I loved this museum so much. The staff is friendly and the museum it's self is a modern beauty. Right down the road is a little strip of shops perfect for lunch.

Beautiful art museum with friendly staff. I went in December and I discovered the Institute's trails. I walked them in the snow and it felt like I was in a winter wonderland.

Fantastic museum located in an amazingly beautiful setting, the Picasso exhibit is superb !! The Clark has a great permanent collection of French Impressionism, and American masters like Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent, to name two. What a great way to spend a summer day, in a fantastic museum located in the heart of the beautiful Berkshires !!

Can't say enough about this museum. First it is in a beautiful setting and new weren't even there at the most beautiful time of year. We went for the special exhibit that was on loan from the Morgan Libray, "Drawn to Greatness" and it was awesome but the permanent collection was such a pleasant surprise. The collection, curated over time by the heir to the Singer Sewing Machine fortune was impressive and rivals some of the major museums in the quality of the collections. I personally loved the Winslow Homer pieces and the pieces by George Inness were spectacular. Then of course were the John Singer Sargeant portraits, and an extensive Impressionist collection. Love love love this place. We were there on a Sunday and arrived when it opened and it was serene and beautiful. We didn't even get to the trails and hope to return in the summer. I did think the $20 entry fee was a bit steep at first but considering the access to such a spectacular collection I felt better about it after we left. If you are anywhere in the area it is well worth the trip!

This museum rivals the Getty in Southern California given the size and location. Must see collection of impressionist such as Renoir and old world masters from the 14th - 18th century. Wonderful displays of porcelains and silver handcrafts. The grounds and buildings are spectacular for their architecture and space. I viewed the Whistler and Van Gogh exhibition and they did a great job of displaying the art and the history of the artists.
