I went to a wedding on the grounds and it was just beautiful. It was well maintained and at a perfect location

Deborah Carter

LOVED Chesterwood Museum! Chesterwood is tucked in a bit, off the beaten path but worth the trip. There are some beautiful sculptures there that are only partially finished and can be seen only at Chesterwood. And, of course, learn of the construction of the Lincoln Memorial.

P Costello

Great historic home and studio in a beautiful and inspiring settling.

Michael A. Einhorn

Do NOT waste $18 for an admission if you are interested in viewing great French sculpture, as there is little to see. The so-called "Museum" has few (no?) full scale originals or reproductions, high-quality photographs, or even a list of places where you can view over 100 public works that French completed. Strictly plaster casts in the studios with little real insight. The house rooms are poorly interpreted. The garden does not contain any works by the master or his contemporaries. Feeling thoroughly ripped off.

Chesterwood is located on one of the most beautiful properties in the Berkshires. I'm a photographer who lives just down the road and I'm fortunate enough to be able to photograph several weddings and other events there every year. Wedding ceremonies are held right behind Daniel Chester French's studio, at the end of the most gorgeous row of hydrangeas. Cocktails are usually in the courtyard behind the studio or next to the main house with the most extraordinary views of the Berkshire Hills. If you are a guest for a wedding, I definitely recommend showing up a little bit early so you can take a hike and look at all of the sculptures in the forest and to visit the studio.

Every year they host a contemporary art exhibit. This year there was a glass theme. There is something special about seeing art in a natural setting like the woodland path.

Peaceful and pretty.

James Fletcher

This is one of the finest cultural attractions in the Berkshires. Gorgeous grounds surround the home and studio of America's premier sculptor, including an informative visitors center and museum filled with fascinating displays, plus original works of art. Not to be missed when visiting the area, it is educational, uplifting and inspiring. Daniel Chester French was an amazing man, and Chesterwood exemplifies this fact in so many ways.

Rob Cruze

Walking through the woods is so relaxing, and having these great works of art scattered through out, almost like an Easter hunt. They complement nature's beauty, making this a wonderful experience.

Jungkhun Byun

I liked almost everything in the house, wall paper, picture frames, light fixture, narrow beds... I loved the very tall studio with interesting small pieces of works like hands. The garden was well designed by Daniel. Also you can enjoy walk through the forest at the end of the garden. The guide was excellent with good knowledge.

Vanda Monzo

The studio was very interesting, filled with sculptures and the grounds were beautiful.

If you have seen the Lincoln Memorial, this was the studio and home of the designer. Well maintained country home and exhibit. $18 entry fee at the time of this note. 5 minutes drive from town center.

We limited our visit to a grounds pass. Lovely garden, nice easy walk on the nature path, interesting sculpture exhibit. Friendly, accommodative receptionist.

Earl Lafreniere

The history, the back ground, design details, the work involved, several scale models, the equipment involved the house and the studio are a wonderful learning and entertaining experience. Time well spent.

Interesting but ultimately disappointing. Not really enough to justify the cost.

Ok but overpriced at $18. Short staffed the day we went so we had to be stealthy and get on the end of a bus tour group

i really enjoyed the chesterwood. seeing the plaster castings and how Daniel Chester French created his sculptures and worked in his studio was very interesting. 3 of the castings you'll will see is the Abraham Lincoln Memorial that is in Washington, DC, the George Washington Memorial that is in Paris, France (even tho Daniel was never in Paris) and Our Lady Of Columbia (America's Unofficial symbol of Liberty. yes before the Statue of Liberty). the French house was gorgeous and has many original pieces and some of the room Daniel would recognize if he would walk into them today. i only was able to see the first floor but they do open the second floor in occasions. the tour guide was a pleasure to talk with and did't rush you through the tour and was happy to answer all questions. if you are planing to do some site seeing around here they do offer a discount packages for the Chesterwood, The Mount, Norman Rockwell and i believe the Ventfort Hall was on the list too. there was at least 4 historical landmarks you could get a discount. i went to The Mount First and they didn't mention it so you might want to start from the Chesterwood first.
