So much going on at the museum these days! I was there for a 2nd Shift concert Thursday - sold out crowd, intimate setting, excellent acoustics. Plenty of parking in the Embassy lot off Pine St., then a pleasant stroll across the Charles River to access the museum entrance.

The Charles River Museum of Industry documents the key innovations and entrepreneurs of Waltham's industrial revolution. Waltham was unique in shifting the factory paradigm towards vertically integrated entities in which all aspects of production took place in respective parts of a single factory building. Leveraging the power generated by the Charles, the factories were able to create watches (perhaps for which Waltham is best known), bicycles, cars, and all manner of tools - many of which are on display at the museum. While the museum paints a picture of the innovations and advancements attributed to a number of notable men - be sure to check out the full story in the area behind the entrance desk.

Working in engineering, this place is a must see!! I can't believe I lived here so long without coming. Could take anywhere from 1-2.5 hours to get through depending on how much you want to read. Wonderful Waltham watch exhibit, amazing machines from the era. Also beautiful area to walk next to the Charles!

Cool to see how Waltham was a leader in technology several hundred years ago, and where the names of some of our towns and cities came from.

Brian Rowe

A small museum packed with a lot of great information and items. Their newer exhibit on the formation of mills and the men behind them was especially interesting. It gives an in-depth look at how the milling industry started Massachusetts and New England and their struggles along the way. Beyond that, the museum has exhibits on Waltham watches, printing presses, bicycles, and much more. Definitely worth visiting.

Heather Doyle

Had my sister's wedding here. It was amazing!!

Great museum. We loved all the displays, historical facts and stories the people that lived during the time. We went for the Chrismas Carol event. It was very well done! The actors performed the reading very well and we loved the piece by Mrs. Dickens. The vendors were also great. Fun event!

Small good venue for a singer like Mary Gauthier. Nice people all around and easily found. I understand though parking is problematic. No first hand experience, since I was dropped off.

Marco Cabrera

So beautifull

Andrew Ramnauth

Great museum on invention, transport, and time pieces!

Will Oursler

There's some facinating stuff here, and at $10, it's not a bad way to spend an afternoon, but many of the exhibits are not very well maintained/restored, and the documentation/plaques are sort of sparse. If you're interested in the history of the Boston area, and some of the technology behind the area's famous historic textiles and manufacturing, you'll probably enjoy it greatly. If the history of technology isn't your passion, however, you may want to give it a miss.

Marta Tron

I loved the Charles Dickens day. :)

Alexandre Guimaraes Santos

(Translated by Google) I didn't like the place. First, the entry is not In Place indicated by Google. After the entrance is on the other side of the building and was not easy to find. (Original) Não gostei do lugar. Primeiro pois a entrada não é No Lugar indicado no Google. Depois que a entrada fica do outro lado do prédio e não foi fácil de achar.

Great place! Had a blast here for the steam punk festival

A hidden gem if you enjoy history. Massachusetts has so much history and so many contributions to the World that we often forget many of them. The Charles River Museum does a great job reminding us of how important Massachusetts was/is to making the World a better place and there are many "I never knew that moments" as well. Only $10 per adult and lots of restaurants near by.

Sandra Veresink

We attended a wedding here and it was beautiful! Not sure if I would visit for the museum itself but it made for a lovely venue for a special event.

Terri-Lynn McCormick

My best friend had a beautiful wedding here! Will always remember the great time we had here.

Kaiwen Chen

Great local museum that's basically the heart of Waltham!

karen gienau

Great little museum. Learned much about the watch business and old time manufacturing. We were there for a special event, so was busy with exhibitors and observers. The antique machining equipment is still in working order, and if you are lucky you can watch the machinery in action. Parking is challenging, so be sure to park in a public lot, otherwise, you risk being towed (we parked on the Church Street lot).

Daniel Lewis

Beautiful wedding venue

Joyce Dvorak

Visited with our Cub Scouts. The museum put together a great program. Our guys had fun while learning! I highly recommend a visit, especially for groups!! Also, they have an upstairs Hall that can be rented for private events too, a super cool industrial loft space.

Frank Lhota

Waltham has a rich history

Beth Gilcoine

Beautiful venue, not that easy to get to if you don't know where you are.

Alexander Kogan

Very interesting museum about mechanical stuff. I was there for a wedding.

Jennifer Hart

Lot of old things to look at, not a lot of explanation either sighs or people. Lot of people just taking pictures and in the way with tripods

Small museum, regional oriented

Joseph Daigle

Small local museum. Very interesting displays and history - I would recommend an afternoon trip because it is not large enough for a whole day. Family friendly.

Robert Dennison

Great look into one history during the industrial age. Walking paths to the museum overlooks the river and provide great scenery especially during the fall months

This place is fascinating! We were considering this for a wedding reception venue, and we were torn between here and another location. The CRM was beat out but barely. It's huge inside with super cool exhibits, and from what I could tell, a very flexible venue. Anyone looking for a unique reception should consider here!

Kate Bowen

If you are into machines, you are in heaven here. There is a lot to uncover if you take the time. There are some unique "hands on" displays, and several could use refurbishing, but we love it for what it is. If there's someone in your family who has endless boxes of bits and bobs, and always a can of oil, this is their heaven.

Ernest Kinas

Hidden gem. They also have concerts.

Ralph Minard

Danny Linitz

cool old industrial machines.

Alan Wu

A modest-sized Museum located in an old factory warehouse on the banks of the Charles River, next to an old mill dam for water power. Originally set up for power transmission via leather belts and pulleys, later converted to steam and then electric motors. Exhibits and occasional demonstrations of historic machine tools and machines, including a pioneering machine for making paper bags. Helpful staff. Also has large event spaces for parties, conferences, weddings, memorials, etc.

Zachary Currier

We were here as guests for a wedding reception. The space is amazing. Very cool and unique venue with great exposed brick and beautiful wood beam ceilings. Sits right on the river which makes for great pictures.

Nate Petrusha

Such a great hidden gem. A great amount of local history. Many cool hands on tools and steam powered contraptions.

Michael Ratner

It has interesting artifacts from the original Waltham mills and the later Waltham Watch factory, in one of the last built of the mill buildings. It is somewhat lacking in dates and other info about some of the artifacts. The temporary display of some of the earliest (human powered) vacuum cleaners was also amusing.

Howard Pastran

Great museum terrible parking hard to find

Bill Camp

Incredible amount old metal working machinery

Noah Pestana

Good event space. Lots of cool mechanical things to play with. Accurate, informative with a friendly staff. What more could you ask for?

Toured the venue and thought it was gorgeous, but ended up going with somewhere else due to family wants. Super funky spot, would be the absolute perfect steampunk venue.
