Beautiful historic home! So many interesting things about the people who owned it and the surrounding area! Tour guides are very nice and informative. So amazing to hear the stories and see how they lived! Will definitely come back to see this place. Well worth the trip!

Fascinating information. Great docents. My family and I have been part time or full time residents since 1959. I went with a contemporary who had limited experience in Chatham. We both loved The Atwood House.

Incredible historical site. The tour is informative and tells of great ideas they had in the past to get by. Did u know there is a secret sliding whole in the stairs that leads to the basement, and they would put the cat in the whole and he would stay a few days in the basement and catch and eat the mice! It kept the cats belly full as well! Antiques galore too. It is a labor of love for the volunteers who run it. There's even a fishing cottage showing how the fishers lived. A must see!

Very well done museum. You will learn about the history of the Atwood family, Chatham's role in the wars, fishing and overall life back in the early days. There is a small gift shop and a $10 entrance fee to the museum. Spend some time outside reading the informational plaques also.

Fabulous and interesting museum focusing on Chatham history and how it connects to the greater historical narrative. Exhibits are well thought out. Staff is friendly. I highly recommend a visit!

The Atwood House, built by a ship captain earlier in the 18th century, shows how folks ran a household (the wife), had children, and lived and relaxed. We had a fine tour given by Kevin Wright. Connected to the museum is a room art exhibit of some Chatham residents by Alice Stallknecht , a local and matiomally known painter, who shows the people in contemporary clothing, representing biblical themes. Interesting and powerful work! Outside the museum building there is an innovative lighthouse exhibit.

We went there for the first time and were very positively surprised. The museum is rich. You have the oldest house of Chatham preserved and furnished as it was in the 19th century. You have a museum with multiple collection about shellfish, Coast guard rescue and the Pendelton. fishing, writers of Cape Cod, story of the various town and a FANTASTIC art collection by Alice Stallknecht. That last part is amazing and worth of much larger art museum. This artist was great, and the collection is an amazing testimony of life in a small village during the depression.

What a surprise! If you love history this destination is a must. However, I don't want to build it up too much, this is a simple old house, with a small museum attached. You MUST get the guided tour, the tour guide have such insight into the lives of those living in the early 19th century. I highly recommend it for history lovers. This place is not stuff either, they got the kids in the tour involved. I enjoyed the history lesson thoroughly.

This place was wonderful. The old house is well preserved and delightful, but the other two highlights were the old fishing camp in its original condition and the barn full of portraits by Alice Stellknecht. The docents were all knowledgeable and friendly. We regretted arriving so late in the day. We would have been happy to stay much longer!
