REVIEWS OF Surratt House Museum IN Maryland

If a history buff this is a must. This is the house where John Wilkes Booth first stopped to pick up a rifle and ammunition after the assassination. Children would be bored to tears.

Gregory McNeill

Great tour guides. Excellent history.

I took my kids (12F, 9F, and 9 month M). We had a great time. My father lives less than a mile away, so I decided we should visit. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. My family was the only group on the tour at the time and the guide kept it entertaining and informative. He answered all of our questions. If you like to learn about American history, this would be a great stop.

I’m a rehab therapist and I took a group of folks there today with disabilities and they did a great job accommodating us. The guide kept us entertained , the management treated us like friends and the house was decorated with great detail true to it’s history. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a professional tour tucked in an easy to get to location. I left wanting to know more about local history with books in hand. A gem!

If you don't already know the entire story, then don't visit. Not much information given. A 'few' nice touches, but, no really worth the time to visit.

What a great place to trace John Wilkes Booth and David Herold's escape route. Thanks to the terrific guide, I think her name was Lynn, you are transported back in time. A thorough tour of the house, information on the Surratt family as well as the time Booth spent here. Very inexpensive for the quality of the content given. Adult admission is five dollars. I would recommend anyone interested in American history to visit.

Joseph Ament

Great docent who told a fascinating story focused on Mary suratt and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

Michael Sima

Limited hours but just walking around outside is still fun and informational.

Roy Van overbeek

Great lecture...slavery among catholics!..home of dr.mutt...treaed john boot!

James Surratt

Correction. The photo is the house south of the real Surratt Tavern. I had to tap on the arrows to get to the correct building.

Jennifer Greenslit

We’ve visited twice this summer, and we’ve gotten very different talks by the docents each time, which was a little surprising. I would have expected a more standard talk that takes care to cover the same key facts. But the guides were very personable, and the house is interesting, particularly the uninsulated room above the kitchen that was apparently the bedroom for one or more slaves at the house.

Deb Forespring

A very interesting, informative and enjoyable tour.

Tour guide was very knowledgable! He took his time, and had information on other things in the house as well. I found out a lot more than I had heard before. There is a very small gift shop. Only complaint was there was only one bathroom to be used for both men and women.

The Mary Surratt House is beautifully preserved and furnished with many exquisite period pieces. Did you know the Surratt Tavern and public room were once the popular gathering place for Confederate sympathizers in Prince George's County?. We had a docent who was wonderfully well-informed and full of arcane details about the home and Mary Surratt which she spun out in a fascinating way. This is a first-rate way to spend a couple of hours of a fall afternoon.

Desiree Lyons

Don't go on a cold day. Inexpensive for the whole family to enjoy. They gave away books so you could further your knowledge. People were extremely nice.

Gregory Smith

They run tours on the hour so plan accordingly. The docents are dressed in period attire and are very knowledgeable.
