This is a neat little museum! Just getting to hear about the history of trains in Hagerstown is worth the stop. The models are intricate and all work. I can't wait to come back for Christmas!

This place is great for train lovers of all ages we went with a 2 year old and he was just as entertained and enthralled as the adults.

Top notch railroad displays and running train platforms (O and HO gauges), great volunteers who know all sorts of history and love talking it. Finally a little to see on the first floor for those who are unable to make the climb up the huge flight of stairs (the only drawback here).

The museum hosts a variety of artifacts of the Western Maryland Railway along with model displays that are very detailed and accurate replicas of the real railroad.

Great place to take the family... Just be careful because the entrance/exit is so close to the busy road. Hold on to your kids! The guys are very friendly there. If youre looking for a brief excursion (1 to 1 1/2 hours max), this is the place to go.

Saywhat Exploration

A really nice museum about the old forgotten train aroundabout. It’s been taken out and was a part of the local train history. Very nice for kids to come to and get a little local history as well as trains ( what children don’t like trains?). Good for adults that never came outta the fascination of trains. You can easily miss this place. I realize this place is runed by grants and/or funds but could use a better sign to drawl more attention. Been here a few times and have enjoyed it.

This is just one of our family's favorite places. I have 3 kids. And they love the elaborate train layouts that never seem to get old. There is always something new that your eyes pick out. The trains are a continuing build. The history is all around you. Beautiful photos from the railways past are all around to see. There is even a work car on the ground floor (that's right 2 levels of train layouts ;)) that you can sit in and pretend your driving down the line. There are the most kind volunteers there. They run trains and build and work on the layouts. They are full of wonderful railway history and will often tell you wonderful story's of our rich past. They have a gift shop and if you should want a yearly membership they have that too. We love this wonderful place.

Took 3 grandkids, 11, 9 & 6, who loved it just as much as Pop-Bob & Grandma. They also enjoyed the magic show which they participated in.

the infamous

Took my five year old and my grandmother today for a event held at the museum. After paying to get in and being there for a few mins my son wanted to take a picture of the Lego trains in the one room. Only to be screamed at several times by the oversized rude old man sitting in the corner for getting too close to his trains which my son was nowhere near. I then said God forbid someone take a photo no need to be a jerk to my son and we went to leave. Upon leaving I went to place a complaint up front where we had paid, only to be told that a too bad because he runs things there. No one had made any effort seven this being a family event and our first and last time there to rectify this and we headed out and my son was so upset and didn't understand what he had done. This was an awful experience and we will never recommend anyone goes here and is subjected to this rude and unwarranted behavior towards children and family's. A waste of money for the half finished exhibit and rude staff who dosent Carr to ake sure people njoy this and eave happy .my son ended up crying because of this. We were planning on buying from the gift shop and spending the whole day enjoying a potential new Bobbie. But after this ...never again

This place gets a 4 mostly for the delightful train enthusiasts who are here to talk to visitors and each other about their love of model trains. There are several models running, and a very elaborate Christmas train room, but the folksy train guys are the main draw. Come ready to visit and chat.

Sarah Poist

Our family really enjoyed our visit. Not very big, but lots of history.

Took my kids and they had a blast. Lots of stuff to look at. If your children like trains or you happen to enjoy model trains, they have a few large displays. They have seasonal events and have nice volunteers that will give more information about the displays.

Casey Wood Inskeep

What a great way to spend an afternoon. Not sure what I liked the most, looking at all the train displays or talking to the old timers that work and hang out there. I loved hearing their stories of working on the railroad.

Good for young kids. Great way to spend a couple hours

Dan Ricords

Let me start off by saying that if you're a railfan, this is for you. If you have small children, then also this is for you! This two story museum does have a whole lot as far as displays, there's one very large trainboard, comparable with the one in roadside america, in Shartlesville, Pa. Several smaller ones as well. Admission (2016) is a modest $5.00 for adults, with children ages 4 - 12 costing .50. There are tracks on the side of the museum, with a few train cars, however they were locked. In my opinion this is a good spot for smaller kids, aged 2 -5. Has a small gift shop. Ample parking, accepts visa and master card.

Alan Sturm

We have taken the grandchildren there annually for several years and they love it. There are displays, interactive layouts, etc. Good, inexpensive fun for the entire family.
