Peaceful, calm and diverse place. Open to the community. Great restaurant and gift shop.
Great institution - particularly good special exhibits this month
Some of the greatest collections in the world. Within these walls
Lots of interesting art. The garden is beautiful!
It's a top-shelf art museum.
I am not an art person at all but i wanted to visit this highly rated museum. It was very nice. Very spacious and clean. A good selection of various type of art from paintings to furniture to silver to sculptures. It was enjoyable and spent about 1.5 hours walking around. There is a sculpture garden next the the museum building.
This was a free entrance museum. Very interesting arts, I also loved the outside structure. Took many pictures.
Fantastic museum with great permanent exhibits and rotating special exhibits. On my visit the John Waters special exhibit was presented. Great museum space laid out with large rooms and plenty of space to roam. A nice venue located near John Hopkins University. Museum personnel are very friendly and make sure to visit the bookstore.
I can’t believe this place is free. If you’re a baltimore resident and haven’t been here you NEED to check it out. I’m not a big fan of art but this place still impresses me!
Lovely sculpture garden in the back. Very clean toilets. Great gift shop.
Love this free space! What a gem with the permanent exhibit from the Cohn sisters collection. John waters retrospective was okay- expected more but they are trying to be a little edgy at least.
I love this museum. Unfortunately one of the security (tall thin blond male) was very rude to me and my daughters. Apparently, he redirected me from being in the impressionist room taking pictures and scolded my youngest daughter who is 8 for being to close to the picture frame. My oldest daughter said he was following us around. I don't mind redirection, however he was nasty. Just completely rude. And then I noticed he kept staring at us. I should have gotten his name but I just wanted to get out of there after that. Otherwise it was a great experience.
Always an entertaining experience to walk through the halls of this museum. Interesting people, too! Collections are worth visiting more than once, special events for members are fun. Recommended: Get a membership! It's affordable and pays off within the first couple of events.
Most of the artwork was beautiful. I still don't know why naked people are considered Art. 1 room was entirely like that so it was not friendly for my children. Also there was a section with headphones downstairs my daughter was listening to. When I put them on was talking about fertility goddesses and the like. Shouldn't be there for folk of various religions. It was offensive to me
The John water's exhibit! !! What a thrill to experience. The issue was prices in the gift shop. Very high even for a museum. ... had a nice lunch at the restaurant. So happy to be able to see an artist's work from Baltimore in the local museum!
Super great!! Bring your kids to family art sundays. Wow!!
My daughter love art and if she's happy I'm happy
The staff was so rude here. ESPECIALLY UP STAIRS.
This is one of the most diverse museums I have been to. They literally have art that spans from 3rd century mosaics to extremely recent new media installations and it's wild. The curators did the Asian and African art exhibits justice by elevating them to their rightful status as high art among western art. I need to go again and again and again just to absorb all the information available there.
Incredibly nice collection curated sensibly and respectfully. Lovely restaurant. The gift shop offers a wide selection of goods across many price points.
Such a beautiful collection ranging from Asian to French. Easy to get lost for a cpl of hours.
Very nice place, I enjoyed it.
What a wonderful place! We will definitely visit again
Excellent group, great exhibits and reasonably price overall just a great experience at this museum
For a free museum, 5 stars. The BMA typically has interesting exhibits and they change several times throughout the year, so it keeps the museum from becoming irrelevant to the city and the college students next door. Most recently, there was an exhibit of art done by K-12 students from Baltimore County (and City, I assume, but I don't remember specifically) Public Schools which was fun to spend time in and appreciate the talent of younger people.
Excellent exhibits and really well laid out. The gift shop had some amazing little gifts. I purchased a great bookmark for a friend and a Ruth Bader Ginsberg T shirt and some neat socks for my daughter.
Such a nice museum and you can't beat the price (free!) to see works by some of the best know artists in the world.
Excellent collections and free admistion.
The John Waters show is worth the visit. He exhibited as a fine artist in the most recent Venice Biennale and his work here shows why he was selected. This is more than the Waters show. The Cone sisters wing shows a depth of collecting reflective of the wealth of the city. Easy to get to on the Purple route of the Charm City Connector, the free Baltimore bus system.
Had a great time! There was so much to see there. I can't wait to go back!
Actually just went for brunch at Gertrude's in the museum. Great food and hospitality.
Excellent free selection of art-- awesome paid shows too.
Incredible destination-worthy museum. It's free, except for special exhibitions, but the permanent gallery is worth revisits alone. Convenient parking for only $7, so we barely got wet in the rain, which are the best days for gorgeous museums. Whether you are into old masters, rennaissance, impressionists, modern, contemporary, ancient African & Asian, today's social justice artists, local legends, etc... Something for everyone!
Enjoyable day. Looking forward to returning to see the rest when it reopens
Great way to spend a few hours in Baltimore. Free entry, and a wide variety of exhibits.
I love this place. There is so much variety. Something for any culture or walk of life. It's free too! I visited for almost a whole day and still feel the need to return soon.
Fantastic place and entry free museum!!! The collections are attractive and relevant. Their current special exhibition on Monsters and Myths was excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful. Great service and cozy atmosphere. I would highly recommend them.
The Lenore Staff LOVES strolling over to the BMA to peruse. What a treasure it is to have such a phenomenal collection so close to us!! We are always gathering up materials to give to our residents and tours so that we can show off the stunning arts our city plays host to. We would recommend a trip here any day to see the truly unique and stunning collection they have curated. Plus, they have free family art workshops on Sundays. How cool is that??
Exhibits quality. Gertrudes restaurant excellent and sculpture garden lovely
I am a lover of museums history all sorts of Art this place is just awesome I really enjoyed it
Great museum. Great restaurant.
Really impressive exhibits and good discounts for students and seniors. I couldn't believe how many well-known artists they had, it was a very pleasant surprise.
The most fantastic place ever for seeing ART!
Awesome museum. Plan on a few hours to really enjoy.
Easily the best art museum I've been to. The John Waters display was absolutely stunning and I'm do happy I got the chance to see it.
We attended a family art class. The kids loved it. We're going back next Sunday. We also visited the African and Asian exhibits. The staff was extremely friendly.
Was a great experience and I learned alot. I really enjoyed the interactive exhibits and the exhibition they had a children's art from middle and high school. I will definitely return during the summer months.
Fantastic and free museum! Their current special exhibit on Monsters and Myths (have to pay) was great. Recommend if you’re ever in town.
John Waters Exhibit was amazing. Best part. Free to members. Love this place. So easy to get lost in time. Great restaurant, great art garden. Free handicap parking at side entrance.
We had so much fun visiting the museum. Learning valuable history while admiring different cultures and their crafts and art.
Lots of cool things to see her
A real surprise. I have always stayed in Baltimore and gone into DC to see the big museums, but this fine collection is right here and free. Excellent collection of early modern pieces and lots of variety. Near good restaurants and easy to make it a part of a walking tour.
The food was delicious at Gertrude's
Very nice museum! Well kept, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a spectacular collection! Gertrude's restaurant inside is an awesome place to eat. Their breads are wonderful!
forward thinking decision on doing 'Make it Now' survey of asking the people what they want in art. more museos should also open up their vaults and minds, art needs to stay relevant, bring on the avant garde!
Masterpieces! Wish we had more time to spend. Staff helpful.
Great place to visit, impressive art and lots to see. Make a day of it on a Sunday starting with brunch at Gertrude's attached to the Baltimore Museum of Art.
Beautiful artwork and the landscaping outside is lovely. One of the delights of BMofA is Gertrude's. Highly reccomend having one meal here. Everything is amazing.
Wonderful exhibition. I took my 3rd grade class and they loved the experience.
I had an awesome day exlporing the exhibits. The staff was welcoming. I really appreciated the variety of exhibits.
The museum engages you from the historic and classical through the modern into the contemporary. The sculpture garden is a place worth your time. The sunlight marks the seasons as much as the sculpture touches the psyche.
Amazing Museum!!! I had an excellent experience at this place. The collections of exhibition was exquisite and relevant. Great staff and great location. I would highly recommend to everyone.
Beautiful museum. Loved Gertrude's as well. Lovely summer destination.
I mean its alot of exhibit just not all that interesting I guess
A good representation of Matisse's work. Some pieces of George Braque and Miro. It also houses traditional Americana furnishings, fine art and landscape and of course European works as well. Overall I would say it's fairly good and the best part is that admission is free!
Thus family and out of town guest. is a great place.
Incredible and free museum! Was a great experience, and I learned a lot: impressive displays and enjoyable discounts for students and seniors. I will return during the summer months.
To be able to walk around and look at such beautiful artifacts was nice in vibe is calm the staff was very nice and helpful
I love spending time here!
Really enjoyed the John Waters Exhibit which closes in early Jan 2019. Impressive collection of Matisse paintings and sculptures. Free admission but special exhibits may have an admission fee.
Excellent food and service as well as the atmosphere
Matisse is my favorite, and BMA has the best and significant collection of his work. I felt so lucky to be in the same room as the Blue Nude, and I absolutely love their Cone Collection! It was everything that I hoped for and more. Perfect Museum if you love Matisse!
Fun activities for the kids and a great experience for the family!
One of Baltimore’s gems. A wide variety of artistic treasures from around the world. Wonderful programming for families and cultural events to enjoy.
Gertrude's. Excellent food; excellent customer service. Made a simple grilled cheese sandwich taste like a delicacy!!
Favorite museum in Baltimore for contemporary art. Enjoyed some nice old African art when I was there last as well.
Lots to see! Great collections.
My family and I love the BMA. Always wonderful staff. The lockers and coat check are free. The free exhibits are great. I do feel the pay exhibits are a bit expensive for how small they are.
This place is beautiful. Don't take pictures God for it you get caught lol I had a woman follow me around the whole time telling me.i.cpuldnt photograph anything then I talked to the main Desk and was told it was fine just no flash which I hadn't used at all. There is a very kind gentleman there who I assume was a security officer and is very knowledgeable about the art. He even told me about the art challenge they do every year where you basically enter a piece in and there's two prizes to win. I felt in my element there and bought a few beautiful pieces for my home! Probably overpriced for what it was but hey it gave me put happiness to be there.
Amazing place!!! Excellent experience!!! I love the beautiful museum — the exquisite collections and relevant. Great staff and great location.
Awesome museum! Worth a visit if you appreciate art.
Modern art selection is great!
I am not a fan of art but I was astonished at what came once I entered the building. Since, looking at the building, from outside, you will not guess that it is full of surprises. I really liked the Asian art section and sculpture garden. A must visit for all the art lovers out there. And to add cherry at the top there is no entry fee.
Amazing collection of Henri Matisse from the Cone sisters collection and other works. Free to the public too. Nice gift shop and restaurant, though pricey.
The Museum is really great. Its free to enter and has great art, well displayed. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are a number of temporary exhibitions going on, most of then are free as well. Along with artworks the place also has a lot of uniquely designed furniture, so you can get interior decor ideas too! There is an area for kids where they can do art, all materials provided. You can watch short movies and documentaries too. The Museum shop has some vintage products, rare brands of skincare and food and much more! The sculptor garden just outside is nice too, you can sit there, bring your pet for a walk or just click pictures. The nearby restaurant-Gertrude’s is where you can fine dine. It is a beautifully decorated restaurant.
Great, free museum in Baltimore with detailed exhibit notes.
Fantastic collection and free to boot. Parking is hard to come by but it's in a good area and safe to walk in. There's a restaurant inside that's slightly expensive. Has art from every movement and time period
I didn't visit the museum we went to the restaurant Gertrude's located inside of the museum. The worst service I have ever received. The staff were pointing and making faces. I know racism is still around, but I have never actually experienced until this day. We were the only African Americans there. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant and we were stared at pointed at. They served us spoiled coleslaw. I was really disappointed, that I didn't leave. I will never attended this place again
If you are in Baltimore and love art, this is the museum to visit. It's free and it'll take up a good amount of your day to see everything. The staff are very helpful and give awesome suggestions on which exhibits to see. There's something here for everyone to enjoy.
This is my favorite place to go to when I just want to relax and unwind.
I enjoyed my experience! Would definitely go again. It would be nice if the security guards are more nicer and has a friendly approach but overall, my experience was nice. Learned some interesting things that one day I went.
Lovely building full of amazing art collections. The Cone Collection is exquisite. The staff are friendly and helpful here. The gift shop has a great selection of unique gift items
Very nice exhibit. Friendly and helpful staff
Great place to enjoy Art. Not crowded. One of my favorites.
Loved the size of this museum. Tons to see without it being so large you cannot see it all. Activities in place for children. Nice gift shop. Easy to find and park.
Great art pieces, pleasant staff and it’s free. Convenient location.
This is a really great museum. Not so large one feels lost, and the exhibitions are interesting and change pretty frequently Brunch is pretty good there too. Well worth the membership.
Great museum. Very nice restaurant and gift shop where one can find unusual gifts.
Pretty cool art. Had s good time. Some loud idiot fell down and up the stairs.
Great experience for children. Good learning experience for adults.
Love this museum. We hadn't been in a few months, and it looks like a different place in parts. Really cool new exhibits complimenting a strong base collection. I have always loved the Asian and African collections and the Cone collection galleries. Outdoor displays and gardens make for a lovely walk on a warm day. Photos are some of the newer exhibits since my last visit. Highly recommended. Free admission.
I love the BMA! The best part? It's free! Second-best part? There is always great art to see. I have been multiple times – had the opportunity to see multiple Andy Warhol pieces in person. There is an amazing amount of variety in the exhibits. If you're in Baltimore, definitely check it out!
The BMA is a beautiful place to visit. Over been dozens of times. I always have a long visit and great experience.
The BMA is a treasure trove of art from all eras and locations. Standouts in the collection stem largely from the Cone Sisters of Bolton Hill Baltimore, who had the good fortune to be in Paris in the heyday of impressionism. Their large collection forms the core of one of the finest batches of Matisse to be found anywhere, including France. Don't neglect the other galleries, however, including art of Asia and Africa, and a slew of 17th and 18th century works. Sculpture and mosaics from Greece and Rome up to Moore and Giacometti, and an outdoor sculpture garden complete the picture. The Museum cafe is Gertrudes, one of Baltimore's fine dining experiences.
The free gated scenic sculpture nature walk park to the right of the museum is closed every Monday and Tuesday, otherwise it's opened year around from 11am to dusk.
Absolutely beautiful collection in a beautiful building. Friendly and helpful staff. The Monsters and Myths exhibit is amazing! Definitely check it out!
Stunning. Just stunning. The Cone sisters collection is a must see.
Really amazing collection of Matisse here. Plus a lot of the other French masters. The museum restaurant is excellent whether you're looking for a sandwich for lunch or fine dining.
Lovely museum. Lots of what looked like construction when we went. Restaurant and bar were good but the bar wasn't clean. We had a very nice day there.
There is so much to see here, from masterpieces by Picasso, to contemporary installations, to antiquities. There are historical range was impressive, and the galleries were manageable without becoming too fatigued.
We have visited several times over the years when we have been on vacation here but always pleasantly surprised by how nice it is and the quality of the collection. They have a beautiful area with Roman mosaics from what is now in Turkey. The Cone Collection is a great assembly of Matisse, Picasso, Impressionists, and other early 20th century artists. The museum is free so there’s no reason not to go. They have a nice sculpture garden and a good restaurant on site.
Wonderful free museum, spent 2 hours there and did not see half the exhibits.
Was my first time absolutely loved it it was a beautiful place. There is so much in this city that I have not experienced first hand. There is a lot of history in this building. Love it looking forward to going back!
My wife and I were visiting Baltimore and decided to visit BMA. I’ve been there as a child so it was nice to see it grow and change over time. I knew it was a free museum which when I arrived being told I needed to pay $15 threw me off. It wasn’t until I was approached by the coordinator of the special exhibit, the Asian inspired event, did I realize that the museum is still free to the public. Please speak to the woman at the front desk about being a bit more hospitable and more engaging when it comes to answering questions. I enjoyed the exhibit but likely would have paid for it had I known what I was being charged for!
This is my place!!! I love a good museum. The collections are nice and relative. Sometimes they have events/shows for adults and family Sunday's. Now let's talk about Gertrude's. The owner truly displays Maryland cuisine. It doesn't matter what you order because it's all tasty. I particularly enjoy the Sunday brunch with the jazz trio. Nothing like a nice meal and a stroll through the museum.
What a lovely museum to visit. Went for the Slavery, The Prison Industrial Complex photography exhibit and was just blown away. Ended up exploring other parts of the museum. Would absolutely recommend this as a to do for anyone.
I love art. You will to.
Much smaller than the Met and Lacks the variety. 'Small, but representative, French Impressionist section and second level Dutch Masters rooms. Worth an hour and a half to two.
I just love this place. I bring everyone here as often as possible. Who doesn't love food and art? Plus, the best dog park is directly across the street!
A gem in the city. More people should know about this collection that boasts superstars, and great variety.
Awesome place be sure to check out the special showings they have.
Had a great time at the night event
Gertrude was AWESOME. Service was great and the food was super fantastic...
Haven't been here for over a year. My wife is an artist so comes more often with artist friends. I'm more of a Philistine. The cafe is very nice and very busy. Suggest going there on arrival to make a reservation. Then plan the visit to accommodate the meal So, I assume that my priorities are clear now.
Great for a full day--you can enjoy all of it and not feel overwhelmed. Loved the calm sculpture garden.
It's free and a lot of Beautiful things to see!
The featured installations are always great!! I usually donate something everytime, so you literally can't beat the price (free). And the gift store and restaurant are AMAZING ♡
Great selection of African, Asian, American, European, and modern art. Many pieces by famous artists such as Èlisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun, Vincent Van Gogh, among others.
My only complaint is that much of the building is currently under renovation. It seems like they have multiple wings which are waiting for exhibits. I really enjoyed the variety. It's not often you get to see a Matisse down the hall from a modern piece of Nigerian art. I'd say the best exhibit is the George A Lucas collection.
I've been wanting to see the Cone Collection for a long time. Finally got t Baltimore and LOVED it!
Love the fact this is a free museum and so much to see. Had dinner at Gertrude's which was delicious.
My daughter art was displayed and everyone was so nice.
Great collection of Matisse with some surprise VanGough, Picasso, and Rodin sculptures. Not crowded like DC museums so you can really be with the pieces and take time without people bumping into you.
A great free museum. Lots of wonderful permanent exhibits.
They need to place benches in every room for people with limited mobility. As of my last visits they had not done so.
It's so nice to see art that it is timeless
It was a delightful day at the museum. Lunch at Gertrude's was very tasty. The server was friendly and efficient. The only negative comment concerns the location of our table. The reservation was made about one and one half weeks in advance. A table by a window was requested which we were given, but it was located right by the door used by the servers to access the outdoor dining area. As a result, there was constant traffic near the table, which we found to be very disturbing.
Fabulous collection of classical and modern art, and it's free! They also have a great gift shop, garden and cafe.
A class A museum worth the price of admission. A number of different exhibits. A wonderful way to spend the day. Dining facilities on site meant we didn't have to leave the site to eat and take a break. Wear comfortable shoes!
Wonderful place that have lecture and event.
I always enjoy going here. Very welcoming and knowledgeable staff. The exhibits have changed since I last visit so nice to see new things
A great free art museum and outdoor garden with pieces of art. Easy parking, usually in front on the syreet
The cool galleries of the museum were welcoming on a scorching summer day, and we were enjoying the nice but somewhat thin collections of mostly second-tier artists when we entered the cloister filled with Roman mosaics. Our eyes bulged when we saw how many well-preserved mosaics they had. It’s hard to find a better collection in Italy. Those led to the Cone sisters’ collection wing, and it is indeed worthy of a museum in itself. Their Matisse collection stunned us — they seemed to have more than the Matisse Museum in France. With other mostly French Impressionist paintings, it was “worth the journey” in Michelin Guide parlance. After lunch we toured the impressive sculpture garden, shaded by big trees and pleasant on a steamy day. This museum is worthy of a half-day or more first visit and return visits.
Magnificent See the Cone Sisters' collection
FREE! Great collection kid friendly
An amazing experience in art from a very diverse set of artists.
Great museum, world class collections, magnificent galleries, courts and spaces. Fabulous and large Henri Matisse collection. Among the most beautiful sculpture gardens anywhere, stunning pieces. Galleries made from entire reassembled historic rooms from historic properties, houses. Astounding original plaster work and designs!
Great art, great people, need I say more?
Under rearrangement at the moment but the Faberge and Lalique objects alone are worth the visit. Also some interesting small Roding sculptures. With a visit or two.
Absolutely gorgeous and the staff is so nice. I do not reccomend bringing very little kids, but over a toddler should be fine!
Great education atmosphere... had a concert there it was warm and enjoyable ..wonderful staff
Great museum with lots of interesting exhibits! I especially enjoyed their collection of contemporary art. This is a well-maintained and considerably large, and admission is free. More interactiveness would have been a nice touch, but other than that, this is a good place to spend an hour or two. I would definitely recommend visiting if you’re looking for something to do in the area.
Free admission to incredible variety and quality of historic, contemporary and modern collections. Participating exhibits. Indoor and out. Fabulous variety of engaging books, games, cards, etc. in gift shop. Gertrude's Cafe-server Monique.
Was invited to the study room to closely inspect some old photographs. It was a great experience and there was also an exhibition from one of the faculty members of my school there. It's a very clean and nice looking museum with many pieces of art by famous artists. It's great for students and families, not to mention it's free for everyone!
We love the bma. The permanent and rotating exhibits are an absolute gem of the city. Art after dark is also a must see/do.
I took my six year old niece on a Sunday afternoon so we could enjoy touring the museum prior to participating in the Sunday afternoon kids' activity. The facilitators in the kids' room were great at sparking the imaginations of the children who participated the day we visited. My niece loved the entire experience. The Cone Sisters' Collection is my favorite exhibit at the BMA.
Fantastic free art museum and sculpture garden
Its a treat for your eyes!! A very good collection. Art lovers paradise!
