Whatever you do, do not go over the speed limit here. And when I say that I mean not one mile per hour over the speed limit. Remember they're under their own private law enforcement. Beautiful Native American village.

First time ever on the island. Been by there many times over the years. I met a man named Richard. Who brought me to Indian island. Where I bought an outboard. I met several people. I'm very happy with my purchase. Richard and his friends where down to earth people. I plan to stay in touch with them. We all had similar interests. Can't say that I haven't had a better day. I will say this it was a day well spent! PS. Richard fancies himself as a comedian. And he is.

What can i say "its our culture and history"

The Penobscot Nation Reservation is located on a small island within the Penobscot river, as it flows past Old Town, Maine. Upon the largely residential island is a small museum dedicated to the culture and art of the Penobscot and Passamaquoddy (Wabanaki) native people. I wholeheartedly encourage travelers to stop and appreciate not only the exhibits, but also the local native-made handicrafts available in the gift shop.

Called to make sure the place was opened, and the voicemail gave the indication the museum was open. We traveled to the place only to find it was closed, no note or anything on the door. Went next door to the tribal office to see what's what. Was told the curator went away for a few days, but failed to change the voicemail. We were told that the closure notice was on the website, but not everyone looks on the website. They called someone who was at the dentist office, told us to go have lunch. We had lunch, called the person, and he never picked up, nor did he return the call. I think they need to be more businesslike and keep information updated on the website and the voicemail as well.

I am Penobscot and I live on the reservation. This little museum has alot of cool Penobscot history in it. I would definitely recommend people come check this place out. If you are into museums and historical point in the past, you will enjoy stopping into this place.

We stopped in to visit at 1:30 on a Wednesday. The place was closed. The hours on the window indicated that it was supposed to be open. Very disappointing.

Said on their website that they were open, went twice no one there, quite disappointed
