This is a must-see for any history fan; especially fans of the Civil War. The home contains many artifacts belonging to the Chamberlain family and the tour is extremely informative. They also provide information for more Chamberlain related sites in the area.

If you are a diverse of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain's, then this is a must see for you. The house, period artifacts, and family pieces are all spectacular and the guides bring to live the house museum. All so much information to a person of such good character and one who did so much for his country. This is a wonderful place to visit!!x

Rooms and artifacts were interesting (need more lights though). The docent was a very good speaker about Chamberlain, his wife and family, the house itself, the general's war and political involvements, and also Longfellow who had stayed there; no bias, well presented. May be hard on folks with mobility issues and some mustiness to rooms, but that's typical of museums. Over an hour of enjoyable local history.

A wonderful Museum to learn about the life of General Joshua Chamberlain. Wonderful guided tours, where you can ask questions about anything involving his life. The home is a great overview of his life as a professor, an officer in the Army, and as governor of the state of Maine. I highly recommend going to this Museum if you wish to learn more about him.

My senior citizen mom says the stairwell was a surprisingly comfy place to sit while no one got her a chair for Fanny's birthday party. The tours are nice, but they have no ability to organize events. My family and I had RSVP'd for the Fanny Chamberlain event. The staff were disorganized, rude to us, unclear on the logistics when we showed up, had run out of seating, didn't communicate with each other, and didn't accommodate anyone in the group with disabilities that prevented them from standing for an undetermined amount of time. Some of us couldn't attend an event we had already paid and dropped of food for as a result. We won't be back.

Hour-long tour is very informative and filled with interesting and fun facts about Chamberlain, his house and his family. It's a must-see event for adults and school-age kids. Very knowledgeable tour guide. Would love to go again if I had the time!

One of the best tours we've taken, and we take them everywhere. The docent was incredibly well versed in Chamberlain's life and career, and knew much about the house which he owned from before the civil war until his death in 1914. There is also a very well-stocked if tiny gift shop. Don't miss!
