Love the lighthouses of the east coast...this is one of my favorites. And the State Historic Site is a bonus with it’s ruins and old cemetery. I even found a Geocache there, quite unexpected. Nice place to visit, I would recommend going there

If you're in the Pemaquid Maine area, check out the Bristol Harbor Days. A nice folksy festival that features local artists-vendors, food and you get to go in and climb to the top of the fort-the view was spectacular. We bought local crafts from the area here, listened to great music and on Saturday night..fireworks.

Anne Schulte

I was unaware that this little treasure existed. I was visiting Pemaquid Beach and this was just a small ride down the street. Well maintained, historical information located in the stone structure, and you can walk all the way to the top! The 360 view from the top makes it all worth it! <3

Interesting history. One of the rangers spent some considerable time with us explaining the history. It was a great day to explore the site. Glad they are taking care of this place for our future generations to enjoy.

Historical site of one of the earliest commercial settlements in New England. Reproduction of one of the three forts built there in pre-colonial time. Open to the public and usually free. Interesting small museum of artifacts found on the property during several excavations. Restaurant on the property with excellent view of the harbor.

newheart1101 Carol

Beautiful location. Makes for an enjoyable afternoon with friends.

Another one of Maine's great historical sites. My daughter and I have been here a few times since she was born. The fort is a very nice experience as well as the other historical buildings on the property. It overlooks the bay, has a small Beach area at low tide, and is a great place to stop and learn some of the history of how it was here in Maine.

Guy Marsden

If you are a history buff, this fort and surrounding foundations provide an interesting history of the area. Great views of the ocean from the ramparts.

This place is interesting there's a boat doc, picnic area, a full size restaurant and a fort all on the same grounds now my husband and I only went to the fort but were quite surprised to see the rest of it fort was in really good condition and worth seeing

Tom Armistead

Would have been better during tourist season. There's nobody here during the winter, but still a good place to see.

Hugh Reilly

Fort William Henry is one of the oldest British forts in North America. Add to that the nearby archeological digs and one of the best regional restaurants (The Contented Sole)... Not to mention some spectacular views and nearby beaches and you'll want to make a day of it here. Or, perhaps a week or three.

Brendan Elliott

Timothy Ford Malone

There is a tremendous amount of history and conflict crammed into this area. Fort Charles, which was built farther up the hill than Forts William Henry and Fredrick. The Rock on which Fort William Henry was built played a big part in the fall of Fort Charles but you can read about that when get here.

Gabrielle B

Beautiful and Historical. Wish though, that preservationists would restore enough for public access

Annette Lane

These grounds are immaculately kept. When I visited in mid June the fort (replicated in the 70's) was open and the view of the bay was fantastic. There are displays of artifacts in both the fort and the museum. At each of the original foundations from the colonial settlement are placards with lots of interesting facts about the homes, shops, and the people who lived there. When I visited there were two fine gentalmen working on the multi year project of recreating one of the original homes. The project is being done by authentic period methods, right down to the hand forged nails, and materials harvested from the area. The builder volunteer was amazing, wearing period cloths to boot. He was super friendly and answered my many, many questions.

Lyn Larrc

A scenic historic site with lots of artifacts, ruins of an old stone fort, an much more. The staff are courteous and informative.

David Tatz

Nice little bit of history - and it was free to state park pass holders. I was able to go to the top and the views were fantastic. Inside there was a little museum with historical information. Made for a nice history lesson for the kids.
