Not much to see.

Gary W Martin

Made me aware of a natural American culture I had no idea about.

Kindra Fontes-May

Their displays are great, especially their basket/weaving displays. They are very committed to decolonizing their museum, and all museums with native goods and artifacts should follow their lead.

Very nice building. Not very much in the way of exhibits. Not sure on this one, some may love it and others not so much. Some artwork by kids. Three canoes, some baskets, most very modern. Small number of artifacts. A lot of space given up to moaning about the past.

Rinky dink....very small and not very impressive

Kathryn Wilson

An interesting presentation of artifacts, information and modern craft of the indigenous people of Maine and New England. Two galleries closed while they prepare for new displays.

joseph smedo

great little museum, friendly staff and interesting items on display

Wayne Hui

A Native American museum that tells the story of the people in the Maine area. The echo chamber is what made our day. An interesting idea why it was built. This is 1 of 2 museums you can enter with the same fee.

albert webb

Such a nice place to learn about Native people and their way of life. Would recommend that you visit this museum at least once.

Tolpiyine Simbola

Absolutely AMAZING Inaugural Indian Market presented by the Abbe Museum. The best and nicest staff in the world, not to mention a lovely and cared for Museum properly representing the surrounding tribes. Will definitely be back!!

Very interesting and informative museum which outlines very well the history of Native Americans in Maine and neighboring states from precolonial times to today. Also has a gift shop. The museum is relatively small but makes good use of space. I would recommend this museum.

We had a great experience visiting. Shop staff were knowledgeable about the museum and town and very friendly. There's something for everyone to learn here and the exhibits are clear, engaging and creative. In the shop there are a range of things to buy including beautiful artwork by native artists.

Jerry Carpenter

Kind of a different approach to Native American museum, although was interesting. Especially good at telling about contemporary achievements. Disappointed in lack of artifacts from the past.... especially being associated with the Smithsonian.

Shannon Cardinal

Museum about the art and cultural heritage, past, present and future of Wabanaki people. Downtown location mostly centers on their art, weaving, and who they are today. Sieur de Mont Spring location is all about the archaeology, arrowheads, and pre-contact past. Visiting Downtown first gets you into SDM location free, Visiting SDM location first gets you a discount on Downtown tickets- but its not free. Go to Downtown first. Not really great for small children, but older kids and those interested in Native American history and the regional/state history of Maine should go.

So much to see in here. Beautiful art, culture and history. It was much larger than we expected, we spent a couple hours here and could have spent a couple more. We were glad to learn about the original settlers of this area, the ongoing contributions of their descendents, and their struggles for self-determination.

Scott Lee

Really well done. A lot of information in a small space. Decent admission charge for keeping the Indian nation's alive.

If you can do the tour with Museum docents, thought provoking and informative! Gorgeous orchestration of unique pieces to represent the Wabanaki tribe.

Eye opening in the best way. If you want to learn about the culture and people of this land, start here! Presents an honest account of the challenges and setbacks faced by Wabanaki, but not at the expense of the beauty of the people and cultures that remain and thrive. Left me with hope and a new perspective.

In a space where white colonists have spoken for Native Americans, relegating them to reservations and often silencing their voices on a local, state, and national level, this museum is a breath of fresh air. The exhibits are all presented from the perspective of the Wabanaki in Maine, the People Of The Dawn. It's truly an eye-opening visit. The entrance fee is worth the history and perspective gained by visiting, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Bar Harbor area.

A fantastic collection. My favorite part about this museum is that everything in it is created and curated by the people to whom it is dedicated. It is truly a one of a kind experience as you get to see their culture through their eyes. Also, they receive a grant which allows them to be open to the public for free during the winter months which includes April when we were there, but it is definitely worth paying for and be sure to take your time!

Thanks for providing free EV.

I really enjoy history overall. The Abe musuem fell short. The rich history of native people in Maine was not displayed the only real history was a timeline on the wall from the 1600-current.. at eight dollars a person I would say just go on Wikipedia and you will learn much more about the Native Americans of Maine.

Very friendly staff and interesting museum. We especially enjoyed the oral parts, with the different languages and music. I loved the whale part, the paintings were incredible. I also loved the children's pictures, they were cool. The music was really interesting, especially the modern song by the kids. The canoes were impressive as well. I would say this museum is ideal for older kids (8+) and adults.

Jonathan Waldo

The Abbe museum is informative and enlightening. The exhibits are well laid out. Easy walk from downtown Bar Harbor. Worth a visit .

Tom Wood

After learning about the Indian tribes that inhabited this area we decided to visit the Abbe museum. It was full of great information and onderful atifacts. There was a great art exhibit from local students depicting their interpretationsof some of the traditions depicted in the exhibits. Was definitely worth the time.

Must see. Wonderful stories and the art from all of New England's First Nation tribes. Also, read how a governor revoked a tribes river rights so a gas line can be run through the tribal lands not 70 years ago - just 2 years ago! Wonderful museum....

Matt Sones

More of an art gallery than a museum. Some nice art, but not worth the admission in my opinion.

A must see. We learned amazing things, saw amazing art, and spent some of our time with the natives of bar harbor through the exhibits of the museum. Definitely go see this.

Learn about the first peoples in Maine - The Wabanaki, a confederation of the Abenaki, Maliseet, MicMac (Mi'kmaq: Canadian spelling), Passamaquoddy and Penobscot. See many examples of their art and culture. Baskets, root clubs, drawings, birch bark items such as canoes and mukuks and more. Recently affiliated with the Smithsonian and full of historical treasures and current art by most of the best Wabanaki artists.

Aaron Keller

This is an excellent museum.
