Dear readers, this old plantation is a one of a kind! My father and I spend several hours enjoying the tour given by Ed our guide. A little about Ed, he lived in the house as a young man in his youth before the place became a museum and is a wealth of knowledge of it's past. Ed is a youthful 86 and has stories of the house, different items in the house and of the people of the area. Each room is dedicated to something different in the past. The musical machine at the base of the stairs, the gorgeous tiffany stained glass, the beautiful artistic ceramics, the Spanish bedroom, the Senator's office, are but a few of the items to see, don't miss the Beautiful Houma Indian exhibit. Give yourself time, and Ed will really make it worth your time with his stories, and you can congratulate him, he is a great grandpa again. Thanks Ed for a great tour that certainly made my day!

They nickle and dime you to death. A sure way to run people away from the craft fair is to charge an entry fee. And what do you get for that? A chance to spend more money.

Victoria Scholz

Our tour guide Helen was extremely knowledgeable about everything in the house and on the grounds. She was able to talk about anything we had questions about or expressed interest in. The house has artifacts not only from its own history but from the area's history. The slave quarters at the entrance is supposedly haunted, but that portion is self-guided. It would have been cool to know the ghost stories. The gift shop is also very nice. I wanted a themed snowglobe for a gift, but they focus more on the culture of Louisiana than just self-promotion.

The tour is $15/each for college students and Ed was the best guide ever ! Was worth every penny ! I learned so much from him because he use to live there as a young child! Not only do you learn the history of the plantation but you learn about the wider world events that shaped the plantation! Oh yea you get to see a real shrunken head !

Morgan Allison

A deep and rich depository of our local heritage.

Our daughter was a missionary serving in this area. She was gone 1 1/2 years, so a year after she returned home, we took her back to the place she loved on a vacation. We had a fabulous time, and one of the things we did was to take a tour at the plantation. Loved it! What a blast back to Another time. I believe that enslaving anyone is wrong, but history teaches us, and thank goodness some of these old homes remain,

I've never been into the plantation facility, but I've been to many events on the grounds here. Southdown Market Place. Office Events. Bayou Beer Fest. Multiple weddings. This is a very nice facility to hold these events. The outdoor pavilion is really nice and can hold a lot of folks.

Magnifique musée, d'une richesse incroyable. Vieux guide super, mais anglophone qui détaille toutes ses explications. A noter, entrée jusqu'à 15h mais la visite est longue ensuite. Vraiment à ne pas rater.
