REVIEWS OF Oak Alley Plantation IN Louisiana

Renee Carper

The grounds are amazing. You can see the amazing view right from the road. It's about 25 $ per adult to get in tour of the big house is only 10 minutes. While you're here make sure to try the drinks. Our tour guide mentioned seeing ghosts in the Big House....I wanted to hear more about that.

Bobby Bricker

This plantation is great. The guided tour is very informative and interesting. The self guided part is full of great displays that accurately portray the life on a plantation in the old days. The grounds are beautiful and the gift shop has a wide variety of items from souvineers to food. We stayed in a cottage and were allowed to roam the grounds at night, it was cool. Also, we saw some wildlife and huge crickets. The staff was super friendly and helpful.

Mark J

Great location! You can take some amazing pictures here. We decided to stay the night which was awesome to have the grounds to ourselves.

Jared Norris

Very picturesque, gorgeous ~200 yr old oak trees. Plantation "big house" tour is decent short informative about the plantation founders, the front and rear lawn/garden areas are where you want to spend your time. The Oak Alley restaurant is also worth the visit, shrimp po-boy's, red beans and rice, gumbo, all the Louisiana favorites.

Francisca Echeverria

Nice place ! The Oaks are so amazing! The history of sugar process is to much tv , I would have liked to visit the crops and feel the distance between the process and the collection and the house , everything. But the place is really beautiful.

Lydia Vallee

Penny was so lovely. She walked through every part of the grounds. This was the best wedding venue I looked at in Louisiana. We ended up not using it because the reception area looked a bit too dark and was more a "barn" feel because of all the wood.

Eli Ellison

Lots of culture and history, wonderful tour guides and beautiful location on the Mississippi.

Dee Barbour

The plantation gardens are beautiful. The tour is extremely short. You will spend 10 minutes in the owners home. You can not take photos. There are fully furnished slave quarters near the gardens which were probably never really furnished in all actuality. It seemed more to focus on the wealth of it's owners very limited information about the captives that worked on that plantation with three sections of the home paying attention to their overall relevance and existence. The grounds are more so for folks to have a nice alcohol drink a light meal snacks and souvenirs. If you are interested in learning anything relevant about African captives on a plantation this is not necessarily the best Plantation to visit for that purpose. If you wish to have a nostalgic experience of the wealth and customs of White plantation owners this is the plantation to visit. It's also very beautiful for photos of any sort especially around the allignment of oak trees.

Aurore

Beautiful place. The visit of the house was a little too fast though.

Laura Bonvillian

It was nice! But so hot!! Interesting tour.

Gaby Triana

The grounds, trees, and house are beautiful, but we had a young man as a tour guide with either a speech impediment or heavy accent of some kind and none of us could understand a word he said. We kept looking at each other like “what is he saying??” After paying $100 to see the house, it would’ve been nice to understand him, especially when we weren’t allowed to wander the house freely. Also, we would have liked more information about the slaves who built the house instead of the family who owned it. Along with a bed and breakfast, restaurant, and gift shop, the whole thing felt glossed over, as though no ugliness had ever occurred there. The slave quarters are exhibits with little to no information, not actual slave quarters, so be aware of that.

Jennifer Abrecht

Beautiful home! Our guide was very knowledgable during the tour (you only get a guided tour through the home). We had lunch while there which was good - and reasonable priced. The one draw back - they take large groups - we had 40 or so people in ours - which was a bit crowded.

Zeff Morgan

Beautiful grounds. The oak trees are from the 1700's and are marvelous. The house is interesting, but the grounds take the show. Also had an excellent mint julep from the bar past the replica slave cabins.

Andrea & Shawn Nez

An eye opening experience. The stories that were told were very somber. Amazing place to visit.

Annie Panov

Very nice place to visit. It was our first stop when arriving. We were very hungry, I can definitely say that the food was amazing. The house it’s impressive and the plantation very green and beautiful

Deirdre G

We were 4 adults with 4 young children (all 8 and under) who at first were not necessarily interested in the history here, however everyone in our group walked away really impressed. The grounds and buildings are beautifully maintained, the length of the guided tour through the house ~30min was perfect, our tour guide told a beautiful story. It was breathtakingly beautiful and the kids learned a lot!

jean balas

Very nice place to see how plantation were before. The place is very well maintained. The staff is great. The tour of the house was very interesting. Also there is translation of almost everything so even if you dont speak English well you can visit. I recommend.

Joel Resare

Well worth the 1.5h stop we made. The highlight was the tour guide Jessica. She took the perspective from how it was in the house from house slaves' perspective. Woven with the story of the Romans that built the house. Very well rounded and balanced experience. Well kept grounds. Don't miss the gift shop with pecan heaven.

Robert D Leon

A must see. Gives a inside history of what really life was like for the slaves. It will open one eyes. Beautiful displays throughout the plantation. Love it. TV slaves is just: Hollywood

Chris McCarty

Tremendous view of American History, very well presented, it’s the most popular plantation in the area for a good reason.

Jay Bee

The guided tour was ok. Only because I would prefer to hear more about the history of the enslaved people and slavery vs the people who lived in the big house. But the scenery was GORGEOUS. Oak Alley is truly a sight to see.

Nicola Postle

I'd never been to a plantation before and though a tragic part of history, Oak Alley was an eye opener and I'm glad I went. The contrast between the slave houses and the big house is stark and mind blowing.

Sabrina Houser-Amaya

Wonderful experience and worth hearing again our history.

Sarah Tozer

Beautiful plantation house with oak lined drive way

Cassie Blum

Beautiful plantation with a sad history of slavery. The house and property are so well maintained. The staff were very professional and knowledgeable. This is a tour worth taking!

Talisa Tjoe

We felt like we learned nothing from this plantation tour. We had THE worst tour guide at the big house. I didn't understand anything he said (neither did my husband) and he just spoke in a VERY uninteresting manner. I mean I get it, he's probably getting bored repeating the same thing every 30 minutes, but then don't choose this job. I was hoping to learn more about the enslaved and with this plantation tour I learned absolutely nothing about them, which I found very disappointing. The only highlight of this plantation are the stunning and impressive oak trees, that's about the only positive thing I can say about the Oak Alley Plantation.

Sean Virgo

Simply breathtaking beauty and the history is persevered and shared. The dark parts are honorably taught as well. A little pricey, but they look for many affiliations and reasons to give discounts. All the staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Jon Burrows

Great stop if you're traveling between NLO and Houston.

Ying Luo

Absolutely beautiful plantation! Enjoyed a lot there taking photos. They also offer a lot of different tours and guide to help you understand the owner family and the history.

D M

This was quite the experience, an excellent tourist spot. Besides the tour(educational), you can expect a clean well maintained estate. The staff was really accommodating. Enjoy a bourbon twist while tour the grounds.

Mauricio Lecaro

As a first timer in NOLA, if you're into peeking back into +200 years of plantation and slavery history - there is absolutely no way Oak Alley Plantation could disappoint you. Beautifully kept and restored buildings and grounds!

Keren Gomez

Do come here with a lot of time & hopefully when there is good weather! Unfortunately we only had time for a tour of the big house so we only got the history of this plantation on what was given on the tour. We did get to visit much of the other areas. But I was mainly there to see the 300 year old oak trees that were lined on the property much like an alley way. This place was so beautiful but it’s sad to hear about this dark period in our country’s history. It was interesting listening to the perspectives from other American people & foreign tourists too.

d3generation !

Very informative historical tour. We must not forget history, lest we are doomed to repeat it.

Anna Smithton

Great place to experience! Very decadent and grandeur! The view of the house from the front yard looking down the oaks took my breath away. The tour focused on the aristocracy and the family ties to all the other plantations. Seeing how much luxury they lived in was wild compared to its neighbors. Almost like comparing a billionaire to a millionaire! Great detail was explained on all of the furnishings, how they got them there, and the beginning of the house before it was a huge plantation. Not a lot about slavery but there are so many other wonderful plantation tours that dive into the lives and atrocities slaves endured. I love that All the area plantations tours give you a different experience. I’m glad they all do this so no one tour has the same info!

Cynthia Marie

Hauntingly beautiful place! The oaks say it all! Went here with the family on. Monday afternoon in March. Not crowded at all. $25 per person admission for 19 and up. They have discounts for seniors and AAA so bring identification. The Virginia oaks dominate this place and it was the first place we went on the grounds. It is Pinterest worthy. The oaks are gorgeous on each side of the path that leads to the house which is gorgeous itself. The tour inside (no photos allowed) is 20 minutes long. We covered 5 rooms inside. It’s a nice tour, but the show stopper is the Virginia Oak path to the home. I am so glad I checked it off my bucket list.

Kevin Cole

Great history. Tour guide was great. Did not see a ghost.

Nolan Long

I went on this tour in preparation for a job and found that this tour was both educational and entertaining. The staff was helpful and passionate about the content they were conveying and we're energized by any questions we happened to have. If you're looking for a great opportunity to brush up on your Creole antebellum history this place is for you.

Joe Z

What can I say besides this place is once of the most beautiful plantations ever. The row ow mature live oaks is as picturesque as you could ever hope for. We have visited here a few times and it's a must do if your anywhere in the area.

Korbinian Scheckenhofer

This has been on my bucket list for a long time, and it is a must for everyone visiting Louisiana who wants to explore outside of the French Quarter. About an hour from New Orleans, this plantation and its famous green areas are absolutely breathtaking! Would highly recommend the early morning tour (9am arrival) in order to avoid the crowds!

Jennifer Eclavea

Honestly the view was better by the Levi paid a lot to enter wasnt all that

Jennifer Isenhoward

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. We went on an incredibly hot day, so we were kind of sweaty and miserable after the first hour, but the big house tour along with the Lemonades helped. Be sure to check out the rest of the ground and the restaurant/store with candy.

Yailin Nunez

Very disappointing.. for the amount of money they charge. First of all your NOT allowed to take pictures inside. Your ticket Included the tour of the plantation. However, you were not allowed to walk freely afterwards & really enjoy the plantation. I felt it was rushed. We were told to walk in a single line.. I felt like I was in kindergarten!! Not worth the money in my opinion. The plantation was not that big so the tour was over quite quickly.

MvGun

The area was rich in history. The house and area was beautiful. It showed a darker time in American history, going through the small homes had me engaged in the material and artifacts presented.

dblodgett61 .

Beautiful place. This place has a storied history entrenched in some of the most vile times in our nations history, but the grounds, residence, and quarters are absolutely breath taking. The employees give great information during the tours, refusing to glaze over the bad side of its history, and informing you of the true life at Oak Alley. This is a historical tour, accurate and informative, but the grounds and the reason it got its name oak alley is the true draw. Take the time to stop by, this is an inexpensive way to spend several hours in a beautiful location.

Jeremy Day

I had always wanted to visit Oak Alley Plantation. From seeing it on paranormal TV shows to seeing it in Interview with a Vampire and various other movies, it really held an air of mystique to me. I finally got the chance during my trip to New Orleans and the surrounding areas. This is well worth the hour and a half drive from New Orleans. The grounds are beautifully manicured and kept up. The slave quarters are a sobering look at life on a southern plantation. And of course, the Alley of Oaks is... breathtaking. They were planted long before air conditioning to created a wind tunnel effect to cool the plantation house during the hot Louisiana summers. Our tour of the mansion itself was highly interesting and detailed, due to our excellent tour guide. You can almost feel the spirits of the past when wandering the mansion and the grounds. The history and culture is really alive at Oak Alley Plantation, and I'm glad to say I've experienced it.

Shinken7 .

Went and saw the Workers quarters, the plantation house, blacksmith areas, interesting history. The still VA Oak trees are beautiful. The perfect shots to get are in front. The prices are reasonable and they give good discount and accommodations, the tour guides are very knowledgeable and taught how the owners were of French descent and the main resource to farm is sugarcane, unlike cotton and rice in GA. It was really interesting to hear and see more about the real history of slavery in south, along with the effects of the Civil War in the surrounding areas. We had Shannon for a guide and she was knowledgeable. Highly recommended to try and visit.

Ryan S

Incredible, beautiful, honest plantation. Pay to enter and explore. They do a wonderful job preserving the slave houses and telling the history of why the plantation is there and how it was run. The slavery story is incredible, and if you're here in the summer, you get the added sensation of imagining the slaves working the fields in the scorching heat and humid air. It's our history and its told well here. The plantation tour is run very efficiently and is highly recommended. It's a beautiful building and the oak trees are magnificent. This is a very memorable experience. Try renting a car and driving here instead of taking the shuttle for a little freedom to explore. And have a mint julep while you're there.

Catsmasher Jones

Nice place. Worth the visit. They made it very educational without politics or preaching.

Josh Alecci

What a beautiful piece of history, not only did you get to see the 250 year old trees lined up but you get a tour of the home and there are a few space homes with lots of artifacts and signs describing everything!! A must go if your wanting to see a very well maintained plantation sugar cane settlement!!!

Leonel Morals

Love the place but not really good history on it

Katie Feldmann

The classic plantation. Beautiful Live Virginian Oak trees. Great tours. This is the Interview With A Vampire filming location. Just the trees!!!!!!

Al Magnuson

Tour at your own pace. Our guide through the "big house" grew up playing on the plantation so she was knowledgeable and emotionally vested. Beautiful property. Approximate amount of historical detail for tourists.

Heather Bodiford

It would be awesome to visit this place when there are not so many people, but it gets really crowded. If you can manage to get a picture without a tourist in the background, hallelujah. It really is a beautiful place. Don't leave without visiting the slave quarters.

Dapo Iluyomade

Immaculate grounds and a beautiful mansion. Rose garden opens in early 2020. Would've liked to hear more about the slaves that made this estate possible.

William Lucas

The oak trees are impressive to walk through. I enjoyed spending my time amongst them as apposed to the house. Just gorgeous.

Bill Cowell

An informative tour guide gave a description of the life of a plantation owner's family and as a servant in the main house. On display outside were typical living quarters and equipment used by the slaves who worked on the plantation, and a listing of the slaves who worked there. There is a gift shop and restaurant in the grounds of the house.

Meghan McMahon Johnson

The grounds of Oak Alley are amazingly gorgeous. They're breathtaking actually. The house is beautiful as well. They take you on a tour of the house with a guide who tells you about the house. My only complaint is that they focus a lot on the plantation owners and very little on the enslaved who built the plantation. It's interesting that they focus so much on the family. I would have loved to hear a different perspective of life there. We know the lives of the whites who owned the property but what about the enslaved who built the place? The guide made it seem like life was bearable on the plantation yet they also have the shackles that the enslaved were required to wear. I really wanted to learn more.

Pedro Rubio

Liz was our tour guide and she is excellent. Very knowledgeable and nice. Our driver was as also nice. Only 4 stars because besides the beautiful oak alley with the big trees there are only 3 rooms with very limited original items. Mint Julep extremely sweet. Trip is one hour from the Riverfront. They should include guide tours to the slaves rooms (you have to go by yourself and there is not enough info)

George Mydland

Great tour guide, but very hot today. People were great. Everyone in the area should see it.

Violet Vx

Beautiful, preserved well. It offers a 30 minute guided tour inside the house. No pictures or video inside the main house. For everything else there are spots with timed information guides or self walk with information post and pamphlet. Also, offers cabins to rent and stay over night. I recommend driving up and paying versus a tour bus. Much more expensive with a tour bus.

Brandy Brisby

Absolutely beautiful!!! Our guide was very nice but sooo boring and I was disappointed that he didn't talk about the salves. Overall I think the tour of the house was a waste but the grounds are so beautiful I would go back over and over.

Zach Hoffman

What a wonderful education provided. We had a great time.

Roxana Santander

I loved this place, really beautiful and historic the worker are so nice they always answered my questions and explained us everything about the place. Some advices : arrived early and do the house tour fist thing later the line will be so long, in the food area looks like there aren’t place to sit keep waiting there are a bunch of picnic tables in the shade and use comfortable shoes :) I will definitely come back , you can go with your kids there are not to many activities for kids but the have plenty space to run and play

Tina Splan

So much rich history in this area and the plantation. I feel like so many individuals need to take on the appreciation of what went on during this time of era and not just it's beauty, but understand what it took to keep the beauty. Also, have a moment if silence in respect for the history and the dead that remain upon the soil. Even though my generations of ancestors may not have been slave owners, I have a respect of the ancestors I know who's family were the slaves. Children should understand the value of hard work and appreciation rather than a video game in your face and a world of technology. Awesome place and thank you to those who keep the history going.

A C

After a week of celebrating Mardi Gras, we wanted to get away from bourbon St. We rented a car and drove out to Oak Alley Plantation. It is beautiful, grand and tranquil. It’s mind boggling to believe this current estate (formerly a sugar cane plantation) was paid for by the lives of slaves.

RUBEN BARBERENA

Very informative you walk at your own pace and can take your time to read the history of the plantation. The main house is tour guided in small groups but at a decent pace.

Mariel Conanan-Montes

The place is lovely. The tour guide is captivating, will tell you the whole history of the place....the slaves, the sugarcane, the civil war and so forth.

Shota Inoue

It takes around 40 minutes from the central of New Orleans and 30 minutes from Baton Rouge. Natural arch of oak trees are so beautiful and well maintained. Also you can learn the history of slavery work and plantation economy at that era.

Ginger Huge

What a beautiful place to visit, so much history here.

Valentina Osorio

It is an hour drive from New Orleans, absolutely beautiful plantation, the oaks were magnificent. The cost of entry was 25 $ + tax, which in my opinion were worth it. In the web page it says what it includes. It showed the lives of the people who owned the place in the 1800s and the slaves who worked in it, honoring the latter with the recognition that was deserved back then. I completely loved it, would definitely recommend it. The lens of the camera was dirty, that's why it looks like that.

Haley Loven

Amazing place to visit and learn a little history...tour was a little short and everything seemed to be remodeled but all in all highlight of our trip!!

Jesse Rodriguez

Tour of the big house was VERY disappointing, there were no pictures allowed, and the tour guide wasn’t very knowledgeable of the history of the house (Angie or Nancy), my wife and I toured 2 years ago and loved it so much we wanted to see it again and visit the gift shop, the grounds were still just as nice , and maybe if we had another guide it would’ve been better. I recommend you reading about the house and grounds pre & post civil war, the columns around the house, the oak trees, the cypress wood and how was used before taking the tour thank goodness we took a bunch of pictures 2 years ago

Karl Kinsella

This is a great place to visit on the way to New Orleans. Tour guide was excellent, grounds are stunning and I recommend the Mint Julip

David Holeman

Grounds are beautiful. We visited Oak Alley back in 2000 and the improvements are great. Nice job properly describing life on a plantation...... both good and bad. It's a bit of a drive, but well worth it. If you are going to tour plantations, definitely put this one on your list.

Arnon Mordoh

Important piece of history. Great place to visit.

Chantal BERG

Great place to visit the day, Great tour in the old house. Had a really great time

Susan Johns

Beautiful arching oak trees line the path to a well preserved plantation house. Worth the 45 minute drive from New Orleans.

Yuliya Savich

Like the excursion. Lemonade & mint julep was very delicious & just in time for refreshing. Would love to come back to see planned restorations.

Russell Durkin

This is a fantastic place to visit. Well worth the trip outside New Orleans. There are also other plantations nearby to visit too. The trees and the house are stunning. The slave quarters are very poignant and give an insight into the hardship people faced at that time. People's stories are brought to life by knowing about some some of these people and discovering more about their lives. It can get busy so visit outside peak times to get the most out of your visit. The plantation restaurant is wonderful too. Thank you.

Fayanne Kirkpatrick

I am so incredibly happy I chose to visit this plantation. It was absolutely beautiful. The restaurant there was tasty as well. I was in awe the whole time.

Tracie Baiz

The place was beautiful and the house tour was interesting. But visiting the grounds on your own and just reading about things was kinda boring. They do have a great set up for food and alcohol.

Kaye Rubio-SanGabriel

The place is majestic! Mint julep is a must-do, even in a to-go cup. We loved the gift shop as well. I heard about the praline liquor from an Uber driver a few months ago. I am glad I did! I should have bought a bigger bottle. The house was beautiful, however the tour guides sounded like they were reading from a script.

T Price

A bride was taking pictures on the Terrance. The plantation was absolutely stunning. We had lunch in the restaurant. They also serve breakfast. You dont go to every room, only a few.

Jason Jerome

Loved the plantation. The tree lined driveway is simply amazing. Wonderful accommodations. Highly recommend

Raviraj Gohil

I would highly recommend the restaurant here, they have such tasty food, I had read reviews about food and believe me it's up to the mark. Oak Alley plantation overall is good and the tunnel looks amazing.

chunky avocado

The tour guide himself was monotone and not invested in the history he was sharing. It was a very heavy atmosphere and the inside tour was much less informative than I'd hoped... there was a heavy focus on the family that lived there, but not as much attention paid to slaves that had been kept during that time period... it was mostly glossed over which I found inappropriate and uncomfortable to go through. There should be much more information and displays of the culture of those kept as slaves, what they endured, and a heavier focus on what their lives were like. That's just my opinion.

Elisabeth Seaton

Beautiful grounds, lovely people, historic site, would have spent much more time there if they hadn't had to close, LOL. Go early and the day so you can spend a lot of time there. The ambiance is almost as amazing as the gift shop. All the people who work there were quite lovely and friendly

Cristina Deiac

What an amazing experience! We loved every minute of it. I wish we could have stayed longer. The tour of the house only takes about 20 min once you are in but there are so many things to see on the plantation. Plan for at least 2 hours to see the entire plantation, have time for some amazing pictures, and visit the gift shop.

Erica Linzmeier

Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable including the gift shop and snack shop staff. Beautiful place, no photos inside!

Larry Lyons

There one of a kind Bird Feeders & Planter Swings are great !!

Wil Price

Beautiful and famous plantation home. Sad juxtaposition it was built on the backs of slaves (who literally lived in shacks out back). Remember that when you visit. On a lighter note try the delicious mint juleps while you walk around.

sankar g

Nice plantation. Really pretty live oaks. Plenty of history. The sight of ships sailing on the Mississippi while you are there is surreal.

Tim Sable

Great piece of the past , the tour of the main house is a must. Take a self guide tour of the grounds after the main house tour and grab a mint julep excellent. There is a bed and breakfast hotel on property and a great gift store and restaurant. Give yourself around 2 hours to explore the property and gift store and restaurant.

Georg Krawutke

Nice place. Recommend the Restaurant. Good plates at reasonable prices

Agata Loboda

It is a beautiful spot (The Oaks are amazing!) But after being at Whitney Plantation I felt Oak Alley wasn't as interesting for understanding the slavery-its history-impact on people etc. Some stories were written down but we had to read and go through the slave houses by our own. Whereas the house could only be visited with a tour guide. It is very beautiful; I would suggest to bring a lunch and have a picnic there; but if you want history I would recommend Whitney instead. ^_^

Mary Neiman-Riley

There are not enough words to describe how amazing this place is!! Jaw dropping, beautiful, amazing caring and knowledgeable staff, great gift shop!!! This is a must when in NOLA!!!

M Johnson

Ok.. I have to say I had an extremely hard time rating this one because I had a VERY hard time visiting here. History made it very difficult to actually place my feet on the property. I was nauseous and couldn't bring myself to go past the entrance gate. From what I saw it is beautiful and well kept. It looked as if 200 years did not pass. I am sorry I couldn't tell you more but here are a few pics that I took. By the way there are three plantations in this area.

Michael Barton

Breathtaking! You have to see it to believe it. Staff in period costumes and tours every hour. A definite must see!

Annia Hsu

Came here as part of a plantation tour, and it was wonderful. The sprawling estate and the lively guide really brings you back into history. The place is very well kept, and informative.

Jesse

This place doesn't just focus on the grandeur of plantation homes and their owners it really captures the difficulties and the harsh reality of slaves and the inhumane treatment at the hands of the wealthy plantation owners. Very well done.

Monica S

It's a nice place to walk around. They have REPLICA slave cabins. The big house is a good picture opportunity if you can get there early before people crowd around and stand in your pictures. I dont think the $25 tour was worth it though.

Melody East

Wow!! What a stunning place. Rich in history. The house was lovely and the grounds as perfect as a park. The best part is the ancient trees in front of the house. You can see the tops of the ships going down the Mississippi from the front of the house. It was the coolest.

Stefano Cataldi

The area is beautiful. The entire staff is super friendly.

James Reeves

Absolutely beautiful place. My fiance and I will be back for a photo shoot. A must see for anyone visiting. Not far from New Orleans

J. Lohmeyer

Gorgeous plantation home that wasnt overly crowded. Tour guide flawlessly explained unique history. Bought lots of fun souvenirs and the Hurricane at the bar was great.

Nancy Summers

Just went there for the lunch, and it was wonderful food and fairly priced. Even though we didn't tour, we still enjoyed the view and the ambiance. Beautifully taken care of and landscaped. Great gift shop, too!

Junia Esparza

Loved it! An absolute American treasure. A timeless plantation that reminds us of how far we have come!! A must visit. Virginia oak trees that radiate this plantation's magnificent beauty.

Juan Lima

The big house was a nice visit with historic significance. We had a guided tour. The sugarcane plantation that surrounds the house has over 2oo years of history. The oak trees which line either side of the main entrance make for a nice photo op for a wedding or a movie.

C&S Gattinger

Really cool place to visit if you're a tourist in the south or just want to learn more about plantations. They had tons of exhibits on sugar, slave conditions, and life as a plantation owner. Walking around to most of the sites is free. There is a tour available for the main house. I took it and felt I didn't get my money's worth, but others have said differently, so experiences probably vary.

JuJu Be

The plantation was a good trip. There I got to explore and learn a little bit about the slaves who lived on the property as well as the owners. There aren't much original items left on the property due to time and aging but the few that are left is still great to see.

gary franta

A must see plantation when visiting New Orleans! It truly captivates the old south. Movies were filmed here! Simply beautiful!

Yanique Taylor

Good food. Worth a visit. Did not visit this plantation gut went for the restaurant. There is a great gift shop too.

Katherine R.

Property is beautiful, great history here! Definitely worth checking out!

JP Flynn

Plantation and property are beautiful. The tours of the main house are fantastic and very informative. Would have liked to see a tour of the entire property in the same fashion as the main house. They do provide maps of the property so you can take a self guided tour of the grounds.

Andy Hussey

What a beautiful place! The employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds and big house are kept in beautiful shape. They tell a truly unbiased story here!

Megan Lowe

The grounds are absolutely gorgeous! And the restaurant was very good! The tour of the inside was not as in depth as the other ones but not bad!

Tom Jackson

Very beautiful piece of southern real estate. Great tour, thanks Anne.

Yolanda Hill

Did not like our tour person she ruined the experience, but the gift shop is nice ....I prefer the Whitney our guide just tryed to sugar coat things

J Rieta

Such a beautiful property, in spite of the sad history. It is just that history. So fortunate that the last owner truly loved the place and blessed us with the opportunity to share. You could see our guide really enjoyed her job and sharing the story with us. A real bonus was the restaurant...had an incredible lunch in an incredible setting and the staff was just great...got there just before they stopped serving but you would not have known it from out service.

J Estrada

Oak Alley is something that you must see in person to understand just how beautiful this plantation really is. Words simply do not do it justice. I would add this to your itinerary if you are in the area. You do need to pay a tour guide to take you inside of the main house. The service was very friendly and helpful. It was worth the price of admission.

Elements of Nature

Only go if you have a car of your own. The tour bus is 90 min from NOLA. And not worth the $68 per person.

J Wick

This place is absolutely beautiful. If you want to see a picture perfect plantation this is it.

Ryan Hunter

This place is gorgeous and very picture-worthy. There is less attention given to the slaves and is more a place where you can drink a mint julep while walking around an old house.

Rena Patel

This was a pretty plantation and that's about all I can say about it. You can tell that the tour guides are given a stock tour and they don't stray from it. I overheard two guides say exactly the same thing our tour guide told us. The plantation inside tour only included 5 small rooms: a seating room, 2 bedrooms, a nursery, a dining room, and artifact room. The whole thing seemed very glossed over and didn't really address actual enslavement. You can tell this place is a tourist attraction and they very much cater to that idea. The family history of the original family was very brief and abbreviated. There was a little about the last owner of the house and that was the end. It seemed very gimmicky. They are doing some work to the out door area and some of the outdoor areas are closed off. The tour ends in the house so much of the slave and outdoor exhibits are self guided which I thought was a bit lazy and should have been included in a guided tour. There are refreshments available and there are two full service restaurant and bars available. Beautiful Grounds and pretty well kept but if you are looking for a fascinating history you will leave sorely disappointed.

The oak trees are of course the main reason to come, and they are absolutely beautiful. The house is likewise gorgeous. The house tour itself was informative but felt a little thin on detail. In addition to the house tour there was a short "tree tour" (mostly just a talk) about the trees, but if it's being offered you should definitely do it. It doesn't go around the grounds, just talks about the oaks, but definitely a fascinating story. The rest of the plantation is similar to what you would expect from any other historic house in the South. There was a self-guided tour of the slave quarters. My friend and I bought some homemade pralines at the gift shop (delicious!) and had lunch in the restaurant. The lunch definitely exceeded my expectations. To be honest, I usually assume the food at tourist attractions will be mediocre, but it was homemade and tasty. I recommend the house dressing on the salad.

I did really enjoy the trip out to Oak Alley Plantation....but I just left feeling the house tour was lacking... they wanted all questions held to the end of the tour but it would have been nice to be able to ask questions about the specific rooms you were touring at the time we were in them. Overall It was really interesting to visit. The Huge oak trees that line both the front and back walk ways are amazing!

A must see. All kinds of emotion came forth seeing how evil and inhuman people can be. They offer guided tours of the plantation, but the guide seemed to focus on how 'hard life' was for the slave owners in heat of the South so far from the city. Plenty of history. Non profit. $25 if you drive there. Well kept. Free to walk around after the tour. Need to see !!

Highly recommend! The grounds are beautiful and the staff are really nice, as well as, knowledgeable about the plantation. The self-guided and guided tours were great and we learned a lot!

Denise Brockway

Awesome experience. House and grounds are gorgeous. Tour was very informative. It's a must see. And lunch in the restaurant was amazing!!!

Benson Mattison

They have done an excellent job with the "museum" aspects and maintenance of the grounds and house, but the tour is structured and highly-scripted. Considering they can operate year-round, the entrance fee seems a bit high.

Daniel Miller

The best restaurant. Good tour

Classic Deep South plantation. Oak alley is breath-taking. And the big house is beautiful. The most beautiful of the Mississippi plantations in LA

Nicole Lash

Absolutely beautiful. Words cannot describe how lovely this place is. I highly recommend anyone visiting new Orleans to visit this plantation not only for its stunning views but the history of it.

Joel Fulton

Anthony did an amazing job of presenting the history during the visit of the "Big House." I very much appreciated him sharing his knowledge!

Thomas Walker

Great historical mansion. Breath taking!

Josefin An

Enough to explore for hours! Very interesting and well organised.

Kimberly doherty

Super cool plantation! Make sure to take the tour to learn some of it's history.

Ellie Hall

The tour guide of the house was very knowledgeable and told the story of the place very well. The grounds are beautifully kept. The historical parts of the property are well kept. A lot of time could be spent there. We spent two hours but we could definitely have stayed longer.

Myrtle Stough

Awesome place to visit and learn about the history of the south. Slave owners history along with history of sugarcane. Great gift shop and restaurant

Oak Alley is unforgettable on many levels. The fact that many movies were shot here is a testament to the plantations beauty and beauty. On the flip side, the stories told about its history is far less impressive. The staff here is excellent and communicate the history in a very compelling way.

Todd Oney

Beautiful antebellum house and grounds. The guide on the house tour was great, very personable and knowledgeable. After the tour grab a mint julep to cool off and walk around the grounds. We did grab a self serve sandwich in the gift shop which was surprisingly good.

Paul Mair

Tour of the plantation house “Gardener House” was awesome. The rest of the plantation is self tour style. There were bugs everywhere outside. The tour of the house was done inside the house itself and did have A/C. Would recommend a visit for anyone looking into the plantation tours.

Oak Alley is a must-see for those interested in learning more about the history of Louisiana. The property itself is so beautiful, with the oaks in the front being the real cherry on top. We loved that you were able to go inside the mansion and see the way that the previous owners lived. The tour guides were very friendly and knowledgable about the history of the property and the previous owners, and you can tell that they love being able to share the history of the mansion and surrounding areas. We were also very impressed by the information provided in what was previously used as the slaves' quarters. This part of the tour was not guided and functioned as something you could do at your own pace, which I thought was great. The information was presented well and was not shy about discussing some of the more terrible things that happened during the period of time that the property functioned as a sugar plantation. The location had nice bathrooms, a large gift shop, and a small kiosk behind the mansion where you could buy mint juleps and other souvenirs. All in all, one of the highlights of our trip!

Jeff White

We did not have nearly enough time to see all of the sights. The mansion tour is great. The guides are very knowledgeable. They do a great job of contrast the wealth and the poverty that was experienced at this plantation.

Debra DeBoor

Very nice. The tour for the house was lame and uninformative or inspired. But the grounds are interesting and the slave quarters look like where my grandma lived in rural midwest when she wasn't a slave.

Cyndi Harbison

This property has so much to see and the tour guide was very knowledgeable! We especially enjoyed seeing the beautiful live oak trees!

Good and atmosphere are great, but you really should try the bread pudding.

RMS Michael

It’s iconic but I don’t like that they changed so much in the house from the original. Everyone was welcoming but the tour also felt a little short.

Vitalii Opekunov

Best plantation in the area. Your GPS will probably lead you to wrong spot with closed gates, look for a driveway to the big parking lot in around 200 meters. Tour lasts only 30mins, not overloaded with information and starts every 10-15 mins. Guide Brittany is a very good story teller and was awesome with replying to all the questions.

A wonderful old plantation chock-full of history since its building and of the surrounding land. Terrific photographic opportunities abound throughout this entire plantation. If visiting New Orleans, this is definitely a must visit. Highly recommend!

Oscar Chen

Beautiful plantation with lots of very old oak trees. Price is 26 per person, there is a tour for the house which will be the only place with AC, it is about 20 mins. It would be a good idea to bring with you during the summer, it is so hot here. Free parking and tons of sugar crane fields nearby. This place is about 1 hour away from French quarter so better to have a car when come. Otherwise you will need book a tour with transportation.

Blake Smith-Bohnert

Surprisingly worth-while. The historic structures are mostly replicas, but that doesn't make them any less powerful to see. The main house/mansion is gorgeous.

Ella Kiersey

Loved the house and the shops. We didn't try the restaurant just fyi. We did love the rooms and decor was perfect but the tour guide was what I count off for since he didn't cover anything other the obvious. We were really wanting interesting facts about the plantation and the owners. Instead we mostly got architecture facts. It might be more up to individual tour guides. However overall it was a must do!

Rebecca Beasley

This a great historic site and I really enjoyed the updated, culturally appropriate guided tour of the house that focused more on the history of slavery at the plantation rather than the glorified lifestyle of the former homeowners. Thank you for demonstrating progress in the south.

Cletis Napier

Wonderful guide to show the plantation and tell us the history of what went on there in the past. Thank you Janell,

Ron Yunis

This was a really interesting and beautiful place to visit. The guides were pretty good although there was a bit too much bias on representing and framing the slaves' plight in the light of today's morality instead of understanding and accepting the fact that this was farming in the 1800's and that even the landowners' had it pretty tough (3 of his four kids died before age 8).
