Amaizing Museum, if you ate i teresting i. The African American Histori you have to go.
The history that Dr. McKenna and his wife accumulated and placed on display at this beautiful historic mansion on one of the Most Iconic and Historic streets in New Orleans, Is beyond words. The tour was remarkable and I gained more than Knowledge than I could imagine. The books in the BOOK NOOK makes you want to purchase them all. A great boutique museum. I will be visiting the other very very soon.

Tour guide was very knowledgeable of our history! A 'must-go' when visiting New Orleans. We learned a lot!
I was enthralled by the amount of rich history and knowledge of the tour guides in tour guides fabulous place. Kim is truly historical genius. It was amazing learning even more about this country's history from a perspective you don't usually hear about. I'm delighted to recommend this Museum to anyone who visits NOLA
Such a blessing to have this beautifully peaceful place in our own backyard!
Learn alot about New Orleans on its History about how blacks play they on building it.
A great museum I visited for a 50th birthday event!
Amazing! Beautiful elegant and educational!
Great historic place of local and national African-American history to visit in NOLA@
Terrific tour!!! One of the best things we did in NOLA. Very unformative about the life of free blacks in early New Orleans. Kim was a wealth of information--a wonderful guide to
Loved the history tour and the staff was amazing!!
Revealing and comprehensive. A must-see for anyone who truly wants to understand the history of free people of color in New Orleans and the larger role of African-Americans in the story of America.
Excellent curation and hosting with extremely well-informed guide make this a must-visit for anybody with even a passing interest in the authentic history of New Orleans and the peoples that make it was it was and is.
Great History on the Free People of Color in New Orleans!
A very nice place and day for a wedding, parking wasn't bad either. So much rich history in this place my wife and I loved it. If you are in the city it is most definitely a stop.We left there and went and got snowball, (Snocones)
This place is amazing. It has some of the most premier art work in the world displayed. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I really like the manicured gardens and the brick fence. It's a lovely space. It compliments the grandeur of Esplanade.
Great history. Kim was amazing historian and really knew her topic. The artifacts and documents were quite interesting to view. I'd defiently recommend going there.
Very interesting and informative tour. Nice, friendly staff and the curator seemed to be knowledgeable. I would recommend this place.
So informing a good place to visit
A must see for everyone.
Historical Black History During Days of Slavery
Very informative, plan on going back with my daughter!
Loved it! The tour guide Sarah was great!
This was mind blowing and to be the only one in the United States is a shame we need more places at this telling the store .
Lovely house museum filled with art and artifacts related to New Orleans' Free People of Color. The best part of the visit was the fantastic tour/lecture from our docent Kim Coleman. My group of 15 highly-trained volunteer and professional tour guides were unanimous in their praise of Ms. Coleman's depth and breadth of knowledge and her engaging style. Our hour-long visit flew by!
A must stop
Amazing young woman gave a fact filled narration of the history of free people of color's history. Fascinating artifacts on display.
Excellent guide (Sarah). Very interesting museum. Definitely worth a visit.
Awesome display of art . Great performances, a must see for family and friends.
Great docent, very knowledgeable storyteller
The only museum in the US dedicated to free people of colour. A truly enriching experience and highly knowledgeable guide that took us through everything.
My visit to Le Musee de F.P.C. was an edifying experience. Our tour guide, Kim, was passionate and thorough in her presentation of the black history of New Orleans. She beautifully interwove cultural, historical, and socio-economic facts as she showed us around the historical house. Andrea was also very helpful in providing information about the black-owned businesses in New Orleans and suggestions on things to do during our time in the city. This, by far, was the highlight of my trip!
What a great place. Ask about the poem that the husband wrote to his wife...
Eye-opening history of Free People of Color (FPC) in New Orleans and Louisiana generally. The subject merits far more physical space. That said, our docent gave a pithy, sophisticated and entertaining tour. With thanks and respect-
Wonderful tour, docents very knowledgeable and shared personal anecdotes that made tour more intimate.
I loved it.
Top notch presentation. I am glad this was added to our tour. I can't recommend this enough.
Stopped by the museum today without an appointment (they do very small group tours by scheduled appointments), and was fortunate able to get fit in since they were under capacity for the tour. I learned a lot more than what I already knew. The tour guide, Kim, is both funny and informative. The paintings and photographs displayed are beautiful, and there's nuggets of historical documents and information nicely displayed. Additionally, the house and the grounds are beautifully maintained. I'd highly recommend going if you'd like to learn more about local history, especially since the city is undergoing a lot of demographic and cultural changes.
The information was priceless. The atmosphere was reminiscent. Overall, this was a very educational, and enlightening tour. I enjoyed the experience very much.
Touring this museum with Kim and Sarah gave me a stunningly detailed look into the history of New Orleans, specifically the contributions, journey, and influence of Free People of Color. I highly recommend this museum and tour for anyone interested in understanding the nuanced and rich history of New Orleans and the U.S.
This was exactly the kind of place I hoped to see during my trip to New Orleans. I love history and it's the stories of the people of cities that interest me the most. Our tour guide was SO knowledgeable and the artifacts and exhibits in the space are priceless. Thank you for offering this space, this is a MUST SEE for all visitors to this great city.
Awesome experience
The tour leader was excellent and had
Tour guide very knowledgeable and exciting.. Great Vibez!!! Loved it learned a nice grip of information .. Dopeness!!!
This museum was part of a tour, it was the best aprr of the trip. The history told with pride and love for the city of New Orleans. Pleasw go visit learn to city’s history. I will take my grandchildren on my next visit.
Staff was welcoming and very informative. I learned more intimate details about the struggles of my people. It was difficult to hear some of the trials, heart breaks and triumphs that still continue in some forms. It's very important to know ones history so it is not repeated. Thank you for the lessons to carry back to share with others. I will return to sit on that beautiful porch and enjoy the gardens.
(Translated by Google) It is a must-see place. And if you're lucky and your turn, Kim as a guide is all you need to understand the culture of the free people of color in New Orleans (Original) Es un lugar imperdible. Y si tienes suerte y te toca Kim como guía es todo lo que necesitas para entender la cultura de la gente libre de color de Nueva Orleans
This was really a great and educational guided tour. I took my mother and my 8 year old daughter and 2 year old son...Very insightful to learn more about Free people of color...insights were shared about Creole people, the voodoo priestess and the origins of why women of color where headwraps. Some things I already knew and some things I had no idea about. I'm grateful to have been able to bring my daughter for her to hear about our history vs reading it in a book or learning about our history in a classroom that doesn't always educate on the true history of African Americans. Out tour guide was Maggie and she was awesome and very knowledgeable. I look forward to going back with more family and friends and do the tea and tour. My favorite that I learned was that free people of color had to register that they were free and have their names placed in a book to show that they were free or they could be sold back into slavery. I can only imagine how many may have not known that they had to register or may have not even had the money to register that they were a free person of color. This museum is a must see and more people need to know about this hidden gem. Price is reasonable! Not funded by the state like other museums. ..Go figure
A lot of history guides will informed
It's a nice museum.
(Translated by Google) Very interesting (Original) Muy interesante
I lern a lot there .yesss
So grateful for one of the few places dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and culture of free people of color. I learned soooo much, and the staff working there were incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the important will being done there. A MUST for residents and tourists alike.
History you will never forget.
Very educational
Was there on a bus tour. Loved learning about the history of NOLA. Had a great time
Great history of Louisiana and more... thoroughly explained... Knowledgeable volunteers. Beautiful experience. Thankful for the owner's initiative to share and educate others on the facts of people of color.
Sometimes it's open most times it's not. It is a nice space once you finally get to catch it open.
Please go there you won't regret it. A knowledgeable curator leads you through the history of new Orleans and the slave trade. Small group so any questions can be addressed. Surrounded in a old home with lots of interesting art and historical documents.
Very beautiful place and educational
Very interesting collection and story but need to think about delivery - how to present it a bit more slowly and give audience time to digest it.
Absolutely beautiful. Came for a wedding but will be back to see the exhibits on a normal day.
Please visit this place. And when you do, I hope Kim does your tour .She's the museum's curator and gives an excellent tour. She's so good, I kept asking myself "How can she remenber all of this information?" Please stop by when you visit New Orleans. Be sure to make an appointment. And they do accept debit and credit cards for the entrance fee, which by the way, is well worth the cost.
Awesome history of freed blacks from the Louisiana culture, pre- America up till modern day. A must see if you are in New Orleans
The museum for free people of color in New Orleans is a truly unique experience. It's the only museum of its kind in the United States. I highly recommend anyone who comes to New Orleans to come see this museum. This museum has been open since 2009. The collection is privately owned and receives no support from state of our federal government. The family has two museums both of which are worth visiting. The space is also available for private event.

Guided tours by extremely knowledgeable people, their knowledge isn't limited to the art, the guides hold very interesting conversations throughout the tours, you can also book this venue for weddings ect Everyone should visit while in NOLA
It was my first experience at this Museum. Great experience. Will be back.
Beautiful facility adorned with rich history and significant details...
This beautiful historic house museum is one of New Orleans hidden treasures. It shares the rich history of New Orleans' free people of color through a private collection of documents, artwork and artifacts. The tours are just about an hour in length. The docents were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. This space also hosts special events and programming. I loved seeing how beautifully and seamlessly the space transformed for these events. Looking forward to attending their next event!
FOR WEDDING: This is an honest review. I’ll start this review off by saying my husband and I take pride in supporting black businesses. Le Musee is a beautiful black owned venue. It’s very unique and the location is convenient. Communication via email with the two ladies Wendy and Clare went smooth up until our wedding day. This could’ve been a great venue to have a wedding if we didn’t have to deal with Andrea Stricker. There’s so many things that went wrong because of this lady. Aside from Andrea and her poor communication skills, our wedding was nice. If you don’t have to deal with Andrea, please don’t. The museum itself and servers made up for her attitude.
Content is incredible, though the collection is pretty small (three rooms of an old house). Docent was passionate but not as knowledgeable as at bigger museums or the Whitney Plantation. Power went out halfway through our tour but no concessions offered despite not being able to see the displays well, which was a bit disappointing. Overall an ok museum.
Guide Kim was splendid, delivering so much information with grace and humor. Get out of the Quarter and see this place. Beautiful house filled with antiques, so many paintings and prints, documents (with printed transcripts for those in difficulty scripts).
My husband and I were visiting NOLA for the first time to celebrate his birthday. Prior to visiting, I researched all the “things you must do in New Orleans,” and it is unfortunate that Le Musée de FPC was not on any of those lists!!! Thankfully, I stumbled across this museum by chance and submitted an online request for a tour. Someone called us back within an hour and we booked a tour for the same day (Note: You have to make an appointment for a tour). The cost is $15 per person and you can pay by cash or credit card (I believe there’s a fee if you pay with a credit card). What a hidden gem!!! Our tour guide, Kim, was so knowledgeable. We were able to walk about the museum, ask questions, hear about the history of the house and New Orleans, with a focus on the Free People of Color who made New Orleans and this nation what it is today! After the tour, we had the opportunity to speak with another lovely lady (I hate that I don’t remember her name) who allowed us to view additional pieces of Art on the top floor of the building. Le Musée puts me in the mindset of the Schomburg Center in Harlem. It’s a much smaller venue, but a must see for anyone interested in the African Diaspora. As the African Proverb goes “Until the Story of the hunt is told by the Lion, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter!” Someone please add this place to a “Top things to do in NOLA” list!!!!
This place was beautiful and a great resource of knowledge. Our guide was super sweet and led us throughout the museum as it she was our friend. Telling us stories and information, not reciting a lesson to us. I enjoyed it a lot and highly recommend. If you are looking for places to go they give their own map of black owned business to go to throughout NOLA. Their courtyard is beautiful too, great for pictures. #culture #rainyday #accessible #mustsee #learn
Le Musée de F.P.C. is a remarkable treasure that showcases African-American history as told by free people of color! This is also a beautiful event venue space. Definitely a must see when here in New Orleans!!
If you visit New Orleans this is a must-see and must visit. It is authentic and the tour given by the curator it's wonderful and it will open your eyes to black history not only in the South but for America please visit on your next trip to New Orleans. I plan on visiting N.O. again soon and that will be my first stop. Mt. Man
