REVIEWS OF Kent Plantation House IN Louisiana

A great representation of a French plantation. There are two original buildings one of which is the main house. Other buildings are from the period and were moved to the site. The tour was very informative and interesting. The staff were knowledgeable and nice. It was a great spot to stop if traveling through the area.

Nice area and staff were semi-knowledgeable of the plantation and the family that owned the plantation, I found it surprising that the tour guide continued to refer to the slaves "workers" or "the girls" when they were indeed slaves on a plantation. She referred to them as if they were indentured servants when that is totally different from slavery and being a slave. There were children on our tour to soak in knowledge and I would hate for them to think that slavery was just a 9 to 5 and that black slaves had the freedom to roam as if they could clock out and enjoy their families. Also children are allowed but not welcomed. They have precious items in the plantation that children will want to touch as they are curious children. It was decent to see, but would not return.

We toured in 2016. I was impressed with the history behind this plantation. The original owner built his house and grew sugar cane, first under Spanish rule, then French rule, and finally, under US rule. This only plantation I know of that is open that is so old. The house and other buildings are in great shape, and made from Cypress.

(Translated by Google) Nice small and nice plantation. The first part of the tour was outside and second part inside. Unfortunately, the plantation could only be visited, which was a little too long for our children because they could not understand.

Of the several places, we visited while in the Alexandria area, next to the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, the Kent house was our favorite! We actually got there after the starting time for the last tour of the day (unknowingly) and they obligingly offered to give us a slightly trimmed down version anyway which delighted us. If this was a shortened version I can only imagine how detailed the full version must be. The people were in period costume and as our guide walked us through the house she encouraged questions and comments never once seeming to want to hurry us through. The woman who showed us through the outer buildings was just as kind and knowledgeable as the inside young lady was and again invited our comments and questions, even in the stifling August heat, never failing to respond with a smile. If you're into history this is a great place to visit and you may even learn a thing or two like why the saying, "mind your own beeswax" wasn't originally intended as a reprimand

A secret touring spot in the city of Alexandria probably overlooked buy most turrets. How ever if you happen to visit and tour this unique bit of Central Louisiana history you will find it well worth the cost of admission. The tour includes a well detailed description of life in the plantation house along with a detailed tour of the five outer buildings. I completely enjoyed learning about Kent Plantation house and grounds. Be sure not to miss this very unique piece of Louisiana history.

I loooovvvve this place. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the history. I brought my son there for the first time and it was just us 2 on tour and the woman really took her time and asked questions for him to answer and get involved and interested (got me interested too like a child in a field trip!). They also have a pretty nifty gift shop with lots of knick knacks and old timey memorabillia, and a cookbook with original recipes from the family that used to own it!!!!

Charles Collin

Great place to find activities and great prices and a fun time to enjoy things with family

I went to herb day there. It was great there were several different people they're selling flowers and herbs. There was a rummage sale on the inside of the building and my grandson love that because he got himself a pirate boat. I have been to the Canton House several times for different activities that have been going on and everyone there is always very nice polite and the place is just beautiful!

Amazing place. What a little gem, just off the beaten path. I was rushing and had to get a sadly short tour, but I highly recommend making time for the whole thing, I WISH I could've heard the whole story. So many interesting little bits to see and hear about. And they even still use the cooking quarters for meals! It was truly awesome, I would love to go back again. Would definitely recommend!

Un voyage dans le passé, éclairé par des guides passionnées. À quelques pas de la route nationale, l'emplacement est cependant préservé. Une halte sympathique dans la ville d'Alexandria (qui n'a que peu d'attrait pour le voyageur en transit).

Well preserved 1800 plantation house. The tour guides were great and we learned alot.

Tour is way to high priced. After we read reviews we thought it was free. It most definitely was not. If walking on a tour by yourself was an option it wasnt obvious. Tour was dry in the main house that the last gave. Tour outside by the guy was better. He didn't have the I'm better than you attitude like the lady did!
