We've got the opinions of people like you who have information of the services of Houmas House and Gardens (Museum) in the state of Louisiana.
As of day this firm gets a rating of 4.6 out of 5 and this rating has been based on 982 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is almost the top, and it's based on a high number of feddbacks, so we can be quite sure that the evaluation is quite credible. If there are many people who bothered to value when they've done well with the service, it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to write feddbacks when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Museum is included in the category of Historical place museum.
What a beautiful place with great tour guides and wait staff!! Our compliments to the chef- fantastic food. It really was a treat and the house and grounds are stunning! Don’t hurry- take time to enjoy this place! We will be back!!
We spent a night at Houmas House and were so glad we did. The house is a beautifully preserved old mansion with a fun and interesting history. The house is loaded with art and memorabilia and the tour the best of the five plantations we visited. The gardens are magical and fanciful at the same time. It was so lovely and romantic to walk thru them after a wonderful dinner in the restaurant under a full moon with the day time crowds gone. Our particular room was small but so comfortable, with every amenity you could want or need. A highlight of our LA visit.
We only looked at 2 plantations and one of them was this one and I wished I had decided differently. This could be nice if there wouldn't be weird garden decorations standing around all over the garden and other not really old stuff and a huge parrot in a tiny cage , which distroys any kind of nice experience. Looked like a distasteful adult Disneyland. We paid 15 $ just for the garden and left after 30 minutes very disappointed. Thank God the first plantation we visited was Evergreen plantation which was fantastic if it would have been this one, we wouldn't have gone to a second one.
Such a gorgeous house and incredible tour. Starting at the amazingly vibey Turtle Bar where you can grab a drink to take with you on the tour. They have incredible antiques and a very well preserved old house. I would have loved to hear a bit more of the real history of life on the plantation including the history of oppression and slavery in the area. Also a bit more of a tour of the grounds. But other than that I would highly recommend this spot for anyone in the area wanting to look a bit into the past.
The house and the park are very beautiful and interesting. But it would be better if the guests would not be allowed to smoke in the park and to drink beer in the house during the excursion.
Fantastic Sunday brunch. Great Bloody Mary
Nicest garden of all the local plantations. Unfortunately no slave quarters but also no dreadfully boring and false story of life on the plantation for whites. Just a well maintained garden and dinning facilities.
Fabulous home, gardens and restaurant with a wonderful, very knowledgeable staff.
Excellent tour and well organized presentation. Our host was very knowledgeable and shared surprising details like the vampire hunting kit from Mary Shelley and the movie scene locations on the stair landing with Betty Davis and Joan Crawford. Lots of fun...
Beautiful gardens. Excellent tour of Houmas House describing a plantation from the 19th century.
Excellent tour by a knowledgeable and charming hostess. Best plantation to visit this side of Oak Alley
Awesome beautiful place and great tour! Wonderful food as well!
Beautiful historic home, with an excellent, friendly staff.
Friendly and very knowledgeable staff ready to assist in every aspect.
A beautiful planation house with gorgeous grounds.
Beautiful beautiful absolutely one of the best Wedding and Reception locations I have ever been too. Food was well above par!
FANTASTIC PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES! REALLY TRULY AMAZING! Must see, like something out of a movie..
Tour was great. Tour guide very knowledgeable.
We arrived at 1pm on a Wednesday afternoon, and encountered very few crowds compared to Oak Alley plantation. This was a nice change of pace compared to Oak Alley because the grounds are covered in gardens and the house tour was much more interesting. However, there is no slave quarters or history given here (again, a nice change of pace). We spent about 3 hours at Houmas House, enjoyed every bit of it, and that was more than enough time. Their restaurant is lauded as one of the best in the country, but we did not try it. One strange thing...there are a few turkeys roaming the grounds, and they closely circled us a few times. It was an entertaining and unusual encounter for us.
My daughter selected Houmas House as the place she wanted to have her wedding and reception. The house and grounds are stunning and the perfect place for a wedding. Janine, our wedding planner at Houmas House, was so easy to work with, and her attention to detail was second to none. The food at the reception was delicious. It was perfect.
Wonderful home. Delightful tour guide. But if for no other reason, go for the gardens! I'm talking Disney World style, over-the-top, lush gardens. Waterfalls, swans, Japanese garden, and, of course, the "weeping" oak trees! Incredibly beautiful!!
Extremely opulent decorations inside and out. Owner is private and brings in tons of various decorative pieces. Not the best for historical accuracy but still a very beautiful and unique experience
Highly recommend! Beautiful and breathtaking grounds and Inns. Very furry kid friendly. The entire staff is so incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome and at home. The food is amazingly delicious. The rooms are beautiful and clean with wonderful amenities. Looking forward to visiting again!
Really Awesome Place
Enchanting and gorgeous. The must see attraction in the greater New Orleans area. If you only have time for one plantation, this is the one!
Houmas House is a favorite destination on historic River Road....the nicest way to get there from either direction and part of the overall experience. While pricey, the Inn is sumptuous, quiet, and set in a beautiful woodland garden, set apart from the big house and restaurants but a short, scenic walk away. A tour of the big house and breakfasts are included. A true treat for a memorable occasion!
Absolutely delicious breakfast and cordial employees!
Good half day tour. Beautiful house and gardens. Lots of history. Unfortunately, our tour guide spoke so fast and gave us so much packed information that it was hard to remember all she said. Plan on having lunch at the plantation. The food was incredibly fresh and delicious. Highly recommend it.
This review is for the house and plantation tour only (not for the hotel). The gardens are beautifully landscaped, with numerous statues and fountains scattered throughout, as well as amazing centuries old oak trees. But the real treat in inside. Our tour guide Stephanie was fantastic. The house not only has an interesting history, it is also filled with fascinating antiques, art and collectibles. This is worth a detour.
Took the plantation tour. Guide was delightful, ya'll. Interesting place & beautiful gardens. The live oaks are breathtaking.
Great hostess and enjoyable tour .
Has an interesting, if long, house tour that showcases an interesting place that any eccentric person will love (they had a wedding for 2 golden retrievers as a grand opening). The plantation showcases some unique architectural features due to the many varying owners. The gardens though non traditional are gorgeous and the grounds feature their own charm. This is definitely my number 2 pick for plantation tours so far as it is unique and quirky. Do not expect them to delve into history beyond the history of the house (the tour mentions slavery in passing as a necessity of the origins of the plantation). We did not get to try the restaurant but it is by both account and smell, very good.
Beautiful gardens. Beautiful home. The guide did an excellent job, though it was never clear where the tour actually started. The group thought it was one spot but it was actually another. The gift shop was a little overpriced and the staff was not all that helpful. We had the buffet lunch, which was good, but not a great selection of food. Overall I would go back just to wander around and take in all the beautiful gardens.
Nice place to visit, a few interesting garden decorations. But the house tour was rushed, not well thought after. We were allowed the same amount of time in the room that has a lot of items and and the room has almost nothing to look at. Restaurant food was good, service was good.
Excellent tour! An hour drive from the French Quarter and well worth it. We had a knowledgeable French tour guide dressed in peruod attire that was entertaining and fun which made the experience enjoyable. It was about an hour tour and then we ate lunch at the Burnside restaurant (on site) which was very tasty.
Beautiful centuries-old Plantation well-maintained. Be sure to save some time to walk around the beautiful grounds. We had a very tasty brunch there service was not the best but we ask for another server and she did an excellent job. Owner Kevin is doing a fantastic job. Piece of trivia, old Bette Davis movie Hush Hush sweet Charlotte was filmed here.
Just simply beautiful!! I♥️it"....
Absolutely gorgeous and our guide was very delightful you will see her in my pictures!! I won't share all my photos you'll have to go see it!!
I have been to a few historical plantation houses and this one was the best by far. I love the fact that it wasn't roped off. We actually got to walk into each room, take tons of pictures and ask questions. Our tour guide was very informative and fun. Thanks Bobby Sue
Great for the whole fam! Really beautiful, and fun tour guids
Loved this plantation. We had an awesome tour guide for the house and the grounds are awesome
The food was fabulous and the service devine. Tour of the house very well done and the grounds beautiful. We loved our experience and look forward to our next visit. A must to do!!
My sister and I got tickets for a wine tasting at Houmas House, decided to be responsible and stayed overnight in a cottage. We had a TRULY amazing experience. Weather did not permit the wine tasting to be under the oaks, so the event was moved indoors to the Carriage House Restaurant. Mr. Kelly ensured the night was flawless and the cottage we slept in was comfortable with an AWESOME bathroom. The beds were comfy, the room was well insulated and QUIET. In the morning we had the "continental" breakfast. Not sure why it is called continental as again it was an upscale dining, order from the menu, experience. EVERYONE should go to Houmas House and enjoy all the beauty and splendor it has to offer. I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!! Hospitality done right!
Houmas House is a place where you can step back in time. Seeing some of the beauty of nature, attempt to understand the struggles of 400 years of individuals in the new world, attempting to live of old world charm. Your tastebuds will experience the Southern/Cajun love of life.
Amazing tour guide (Karen) and overall experience. There’s so much to see on the grounds as well as inside the house. Gorgeous and will be visiting again whenever we’re in town. Thanks again Karen for an awesome tour!!!
We planned a quick trip for a birthday & this experience was great. It was easy to rent a car in New Orleans and drive to the property. We stayed two nights at the Inn and everyone was very friendly. I think Maggie & I even made friends :) It is quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. The food at the fine Dining restaurant was fabulous. Would recommend for someone looking for a unique experience.
One of the best plantations in Louisiana to visit. It has extensive beautiful gardens, out buildings and top notch restaurants that are open daily. The gift shop is spacious with a great selection of souvenirs and books. The guided tour is excellent too. There are shaded areas to sit through out the gardens and lots of birds and animals about. Houmas tops all the other plantations in the state in my opinion.
Loved the history. I loved the tour guide. Was a little taken a back of the staff when we first walked in; they seemed grumpy!
Nice place full of history
Closet thing I've ever seen to the Garden of Eden, it's just stunning!! The staff was friendly and full of info, plus the buffet was super delish....didn't see that coming and I'm g-free!!
We love Houmas House!! Great tour, gardens, and bar!! Wonderful!!
A great history lesson and a beautiful setting! Before you start exploring, take the time to watch the video on the history of the plantation; it's only 13 minutes and will make the rest of your visit more informative. The grounds are beautiful, well worth taking time to explore. The house tour is also great. For those unable to climb stairs to the second floor there is a very small elevator to get you there.
My absolute favorite place
Love this place....we love to go have lunch at the resturant and then just enjoy the beauty of the gardens.
Mr. Kelly is restoring an icon of the South. The history of the Sugar Palace is amazing. The grounds have at least 2 live oaks over 500 years old!
This was a beautiful plantation! We really appreciated it being opened later than 5 pm. We were driving from Beaumont, Tx to New Orleans, LA. Since it was still open we got to visit a plantation.
Beautiful place! The gardens are spectacular and the tour felt so intimate. Me and my husband had a wonderful time and loved how knowable and sweet our tour guide was. She was frech and just amazing we loved having her as our tour guide. Another positive is you have more then enough time to eat at the cafe before the tour starts and you have time to look at the gardens after the house tour. There are a bunch of beautiful birds on the property along with amazing water features and plants! I have to add the food at the cafe is amazing I wish I could of taken the honey pecan butter home with me!
We were in town for my sister's wedding in NOLA a month ago, and I sent my husband and my in-laws who had flown in to Germany on a tour of the house and gardens while we were doing wedding prep. The experience could not have been more of a nightmare. They bought tickets for the 10:30 tour, but no guide ever turned up to give it. A tour bus showed up around 11am, and magically those people were given a tour, but my family was told they could not listen in on that tour even though they had been waiting. Still no guide. Finally, a little after 11:30am, someone FINALLY shows up to give the 10:30 tour- more than an HOUR late. Apparently one of the guides didn't show up for work that day, but why they simply didn't say that there would be no 10:30 or 11am tours but feel free to walk the gardens until then is beyond me. I spoke to the manager on the phone that afternoon, and the owner a few days later. Both were fairly dismissive and neither really acknowledged how truly embarrassing it was for me to recommend this place only to have my guests experience such awful service and waste their money paying for a tour and view of the gardens only to not be able to walk the grounds because they wasted all of their time waiting for the guide. If you're looking to tour a plantation, I'd recommend a visit to Oak Alley or Nottoway instead- we've always brought our guests to these and have had really wonderful experiences and beautiful pictures.
Beautiful gardens, great house tour and interesting history.
Turtle Bar was awesome! Will stop by when I'm back in town or in the area. For dinner the duck was excellent and the Kobe was amazing (from what I was told by one of our group). The service was great and I would absolutely recommend Houmas House!
Beautiful place , gardens, and good food
Amazing place and the food is fabulous!! Highly recommend
I attended a wedding at Houmas House for a night wedding. The ride from New Orleans is about an hour. After you get off the interstate the roads are narrow (2 lane )and not lighted. There is a sign for Houmas House, but finding the driving entrance to the location was very confusing if you are unfamiliar with the area. The staff and wedding servers were all pleasant and very helpful. The venue is very spacious with beautiful landscaping and flowers. There are several satellite buildings with long walkways and seating areas. A highlight of the venue are the lovely old oak trees and light changing water fountain central to the reception area buildings. The only negative opinion about the venue is the darkness of those same pathways when leaving the reception. It was very hard to get your bearings back to the parking lot since there was limited lighting. Walking on the cobblestones at night was also hazardous and potentially a tripping risk. Overall I had a great time, the cocktail hour outside was surprisingly bug free, guests could spread out with the available bar setup and tables. The water fountain became a selfie spot before going into the dining room. The food was well done, and tasty.
Well preserved History. Tour guide took us back in time with many great stories!!
Very beautiful grounds.
Beautiful home and grounds
Beautiful plantation house and the staff were friendly. The guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour enjoyable. Sometimes the groups get a bit large, so it’s difficult to maneuver around the house, but apart from that, the tour was good. Great pictures can be taken around the grounds as well.
Excellent meal, superb service, beautiful grounds, tasty beverages. What's not to like. I had the pork porterhouse and the queens soup and they were terrific as was every thing my dinner mates had.
Great tours guide of the mansion! Try getting to the 9am tour, that way you have at most one or two groups with you on the tour and can ask plenty of questions! The Gardens were beautiful and quite impressive as well! Expect to pay $25 per adult for full access.
Came to learn about the culture, but their was only discussion about life struggles of the rich plantation owners. Artifacts were not original to the house. Do not waste your money here!!
Great plantation, beautiful grounds, informative docents.
The gift shop is amazing. The gardens are so well maintained and beautiful. Lunch was excellent...plating was done with talent. Am absolutely wonderful place.
Nothing to see, no history, nothing about slavery, grounds with modern and incogruent statuary and installations, tacky gift shop, zero attention or assistance from three staff collecting $16 to walk grounds. Long drive for nothing. No historical value apart from old house, which cost an additional $16 to go inside.
Love it!!! Beautiful gardens and the house is gorgeous. Is a most to see.
The plantation gets more beautiful every time we visit!
Beautiful gardens, peaceful walk. Turtle Bar excellent. Only reason not 5 stars was gift shop ladies not very friendly.
Gawky fun! You’ll love the tongue in cheek decor and less-than-faithful restoration
Wonderful atmosphere. The gardens alone are worth the visit and a perfect place for photos no matter the occasion, especially beauitufl in spring. They DO charge now to walk the grounds whereas they didn't before in case anyone is caught off guard. There's far more to see than the plantation itself. Care and restaurants available as well
Awesome place to visit. Admission worth it. The place is beautiful. Take time to stroll thru the grounds.
Spent Easter Sunday at Houmas House and it was absolutely gorgeous! The house, gardens and magnificent Live Oaks are a wonder to behold. The Easter Buffet was impeccable. My wife, son and I sampled a little bit of everything wherein the quality and variety of food was exceptional. The entrees of Prime Rib, ham with Cane Syrup Glaze, Roasted Duck with Praline Sauce, Crawfish Etouffee, Herb Crusted Salmon with Lemon Cream, Spinach Stuffed Chicken with Heirloom Tomato Cream was the definition of perfection ... mouthwatering goodness!!! Their were too many epic sides to list but they were all phenomenal. Yummy !!! Aside from the food, Houmas House is one of our favorite Plantation Homes. The interior is loaded with beautiful antiques of all types, many original to the home or at least the time period. We live very close and will be back many times ... this place is 5 star plus or your living in a cave. Do yourself and family a favor and pin this as a stop on your next trip, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!!!
Fantastic place; well worth it!
Superb historic plantation with gorgeous gardens. Lunch there is not bad, dinner is ok, service tends to be slow
Visited in late June. The grounds were not as well kept as I thought they would be. The tour was all verbal-I didn't find any written info or history on anything.
Loved the tour with Sandy. She made it interesting and fun. Walked the gorgeous grounds and had nice lunch in restaurant. Would recommend.
We loved it and loved our tour guide. We were the last tour for the night and it was just us which made it more of a very personalized tour. Carter our tour guide was great and showed us all the things that he loved about the house and about every room we went into. He did an amazing job and even got my two young kids who were tired at the end of the day and reenergized them and got them interested in all the stuff in the house and they loved it. It was a extremely beautiful house and as well a extremely beautiful botanical garden.
Please if you reading this treat yourself to a awesome breakfast at Houmas house. Go early and enjoy the walk to the restaurant without the crowds but sit and relax in the fine dining room and enjoy a scrumptious meal. It is not cheap but it is a special treat.
Beautiful grounds. Buildings are interesting however, I suspect, not authentic preservations but something from the owner's imagination. The food is mediocre at best and somewhat outside of authentic traditional local cuisine (it's tourist food). Menu items sometimes unavailable. The surly, inattentive wait staff becomes more tolerable by virtue of fairly decent cocktails, if you can get one. Your friends from out of state will love it but you probably won't.
Truly the jewel of the South! No other facility comes close to the atmosphere, food and service. My hat’s off to Kevin Kelly and his team!
Gardens are beautiful and the tour is a lot of fun. We ate lunch at Burnside Cafe which was delicious, try the curry pumpkin, crawfish, corn bisque! I will be planning another trip once all of the flowers are in bloom!
A nice place to visit The tour guide pepole are excellent and make a great job
Beautiful landscape, delicious food and desserts (yum)
We toured 2 plantations while visiting Louisiana, this being one of them. Of the 2, this was my favorite. The house and the grounds are amazing! The landscape and giant oaks are really spectacular. The Japanese garden is also really well done!
Great plsntation. Great lunch Wonderful staff
This place is fantastic! Scheduled a romatic date night here recently... So nice
Beautiful gardens. Informative tour. Great breakfast. Thanks Josephine for being the very best. Wisconsin awaits your arrival.
The gardens are breathtakingly beautiful. In the spring the dragonflies in a multitude of colors are flying around. Gorgeous statues are throughout the grounds. The perfect place to take photos, get married, romance your honey, or propose. Fantastic restaurants with scrumptious food. Lovely cocktails in the hidden bar. The very highest recommendation!!!
Went to tour this plantation yesterday. Seems like they glorified the plantation owners and the antiques, that weren’t even original to the property. The gardens are not original to the house as well. In fact at one point they mentioned that one of the plantation owners freed like 550 slaves. Which is not true! I learned this from a true historian with a double major in history that focused on slavery. That the owners slaves were taken! He did not free them in fact he wrote a letter to try to get them back! Why are they trying to hide a important pieces of history? Do not waste your time or money going here!
Beautiful Monet like gardens. The oak trees on the property were fabulous. The restaurant was delicious, it rivaled Michelin rated restaurants I have visited in France. It is a must see and eat place in Louisiana.
Interesting place known as "The Sugar Palace". Built with sugar cane money. Great history and beautiful gardens.
The property is beautiful, well maintained, not overcrowded with tour groups and was an absolute pleasure to visit. I stayed for lunch and had the eggplant, lump crab entree and it was excellently prepared and presented.
They definitely need to incorporate some recognition that the opulence of this place is due to the wealth generated by slave labor. The grounds are spectacular, the antiques well preserved and the main house is architecturally very interesting. Make time to visit Craig Black's Art Noir gallery on the grounds.
Wonderful place and a great tour guide. So interesting
Houmas House was a unique, romantic place to explore. The gardens are beautiful. The tour of the mansion was very interesting. We dined at the carriage house for dinner and it was top notch food and service.
It’s pretty tacky to get married at a place where just a few generations ago, people legally couldn’t legally get married because they were considered farm animals.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. The house and gardens are beautiful.
We stayed here overnight as part of a driving tour of plantation homes. This was a totally enjoyable stop - lovely cottage to stay in, interesting tour of plantation home and delicious breakfast included with stay, and we also enjoyed cocktails at their quaint bar and a great dinner in their dining room. Well worth a visit!!
This place has beautiful grounds that you can wander in and perhaps catch a glance of the peacocks on the grounds. My husband and I took a tour of the house as well. It was also beautiful. We learned a lot about the history of the house. Our guide was very informative and friendly. She was open to answering any questions you might have. I would definitely recommend checking it out.
what a beautiful place! to walk the grounds, tended by 8 gardeners on a perfect spring evening is like walking through a small piece of heaven. the Turtle Bar is a must. the food is delicious and it is a perfect place for a special dinner for a club or the family. we have had 3 birthday celebrations there and absolutely never been disappointed. the gift shop is incredible. the construction of cottages permitting dogs and now an inn makes it one of the most desirable places to visit and stay in Louisiana.
So beautiful. Plus we got to pet the labs! Best plantation tour!
Good time and beautiful area with awesome people!
Exceptional food and amazing gardens.
Lovely plantation with knowledgeable employees to make your visit complete
Historic, beautiful, and quirky to start. Super food and drink throughout. And charming rooms to wrap up what will be a great place for a sleep over.
Great history and food!!
Loved the tour with Bobbie Sue.
Houmas House was the first plantation stop on our trip to the New Orleans area. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and wished we could have stayed longer. The grounds were so relaxing and the young man who helped us check in the facility was helpful and courteous. We were impressed with our room- very spacious, clean and had nice toiletries for us to use. We felt as though we had stepped back in time while we visited. The breakfast we experienced was absolutely decadent. The people of Louisiana sure know how to cook. Everything I ate was wonderful!
Very nice. I recommend taking the mansion tour.
We arrived later in the afternoon. The gardens were beautiful. We were offered a ride up to the carriage house restaurant to eat. The food was delicious. We felt a little under-dressed for the elegance of the restaurant, but were treated very well. We took the tour of the house on the last tour offered and we were the only ones there at 7pm so we were able to have our own private tour! It was amazing and if you appreciate antiques and relics from the past then you are in for a treat!
One of my best friends wedding was held there, and it was an amazing sight and location. The the staff, servers, and bartender were very professional and hospitable. Everything turned out great and couldn't ask for a better location for my friends wedding. Thank you all and can't wait to have mine here as well. God bless my friends marriage and all who shared this moment with us. Thank you again.
Loved the elegance and charm. I had the same ture guide twice in 2 weeks and I really enjoyed her knowledge, sweet friendly charm ,and huspetality.l don't remember her name. She wears a white blouse with a green, white striped skirt. She has blond hair. I have been bringing out of town guests to this Plantation home for years and I highly recommend it. It shows so much positive history for the slaves that worked at that Plantation. Also that not all slave owners did them wrong. Especially love the history of one of the owners that release all his slaves before he was required. And gave them land and built homes for them if they would stay to work and give them an honest wage . Also that their families are still living today on the same property that their ancestors were forgiven. Not all slave owners were Bad people, their were some good people who cared and loved their workers. And made sure they were treated Fair.
Loved every second of the tour, our guide was very informative. And the grounds were spectacular and I met Lady Magnolia. Will go back
Fabulous day with Summit Garden Club on road trip.
This place is just beautiful. I've been twice in the spring and the gardens are amazing. I also love their restaurant!!
A beautiful plantation with some of the most incredible live oaks. The gardens surrounding the home are absolutely stunning and worth spending time exploring. The interior of the house feels a bit crowded and not all is authentic in the way that some of the other plantations are (and this would apply to the grounds as well). We also felt the tour was more about the items in the house, rather than the history of the plantation itself. Overall, quite interesting and neat to visit.
Beautiful venue for a wedding. Loved that there was so much to see, I feel like we kept finding little surprises as we walked through the grounds. I also appreciated that there was plenty of indoor space available to us since it was raining.
Toured the beautiful Gardens here. Enjoyed the ducks and swans in the front yard. The stern wheeler river boat tour stopped here and passengers got to tour the house and gardens. And it is Dog friendly! YAY!
To describe this mansion and its grounds in a simple review would take a volume. This is a view into the past, of people who saw opportunity and had the wherewithal to take steps to take advantage of that opportunity. The growing of sugar cane. The grounds must need a small army to keep everything so beautiful. I wonder in my mind if it was even more wonderful is its heyday. Ah... Well be sure to tour the mansion as the stories are incredible and the antiques on display say a lot about the history. The story of the code of the pineapple and how it was used as asignal to tell guests when it was time to leave is a wonderful part of history. Be sure to walk the whole grounds and don't miss anything. It will take some time to enjoy all this southern hospitality.
The most beautiful of the "plantations" between New Orleans and Baton Rouge and the food's not bad either. Definitely a must see for tourists. If you're looking for a wedding venue and you have a nice budget, this is one of the top five places you should consider.
Really annoying you have to take the guided tour. Too many plantations to see in a day to have to be there for 75 minutes or so. Nice looking property though.
Beautiful place to visit. Place is always expanding.
Was great lovely good guide and helpful people go and experience
Approximately $26 for the inside and outside tour. $15 outside only. Unfortunately it was foggy and only wanted to capture exterior photos. Skipped both. Grounds are well kept and gorgeous.
My employer hosted dinner in the Neptunes Ballroom. The food and service was excellent. My only disappointment was lack of adequate bathroom facilities. There were lines outside the mens and womens restrooms.
Beautiful gardens. The oaks alley is totally worth it
the museum is fun, but sometimes the owner's dog obsession is too much.
We came here to do the tour in hopes that we would learn more about the cultural setting, time period, and all that running a plantation entails. Instead we just learned about the home and the owners and the movie that was filmed there. I was disappointed. The home itself and the gardens were very beautiful. The cafe on the grounds was good.
Absolutely worth visiting. Breathtaking grounds, gorgeous antiques and riveting tour. The plantation has been well kept and beautifully restored. Check out the restaurants, little pricey but huge portions and delicious!
Worth the drive. The grounds are kept top notch. Highest level of service and cuisine.
The Sunday brunch was really good.
Beautiful, southern charm. The gardens were so pretty. Visit the Turtle Bar!
The gardens were beautiful and still had flowers blooming even though it was the beginning of Nov. Our guide was informative but seemed stiff. There are restaurants and a bar on the grounds as well as other things for you to see that the tour guide doesn't cover.
We loved this the most of all the mansion tours we went on. A beautiful home and grounds. Go see this!
Beautiful grounds worth exploring. Tour with a guide for an in-depth history lesson. Enjoy amazing dishes in one of their restaurants onsite (we tried Latil's Landing). The store itself is enjoyable to explore; buy a souvenir to take home. Will visit again when we return to the area.
Beautiful garden surrounded plantation house beside the Mississippi.
Our tour guide was only 17 but she did a fantastic job. There is a cafe on the premises that we had planned to eat at, but did not. It was Sunday and instead of sandwiches and light lunch fare it was a Sunday brunch. More food and money then we wanted at the time. So we got a snack from the gift shop and found a table outside to eat at. We were shortly joined by 3 turkeys who loudly declared they wanted a snack too. They hung out for a bit until we shooed them away. Beautiful grounds, beautiful home.
It was good, our tour guide was from France and hard to understand at times. The grounds are beautiful
Gardens were weedy and not as well kept as last visit. Neat stop for tourist though.
Very Interesting History.. The Food was Wonderful as well.
Beautifully restored main house and gardens. However, from a third party review, I had expected to see the staff dressed in period clothing, but that was not the case.
Interesting tours with scenic views. However, the restaurant staff was very distracted and slow. It took several times for them to get our order correct.
Loved it here. Interesting history. Gardens are my thing and I enjoyed theirs.
What a lovely plantation. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny. I can't remember her name. I'd like to say it Samantha, but not sure.
One of our favorite places to spend time with friends for dinner and drinks! Beautiful during the holidays. Always exceptional from the moment you walk through the gift shop, take a journey to The Turtle Bar and finally dinner at Latil’s Landing! Can’t wait to visit again.
Absolutely beautiful place. The home was gorgeous, the tour guide was very fun and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the grounds and wildlife as well. Saw turkeys, peacock, ducks, geese, squirrels, turtles, and the Parrot named Charlie.
Very nice experience. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. Visited many rooms. Gardens were beautiful. We had lunch at the restaurant. The eggplant dish from menu was phenomenal. Bread pudding was very moist and delicious.
Great place and great people. Very beautiful grounds and interesting history.
This was the best tour of all plantation tours I've done. SUZANNA was engaging and sweet and seemed to enjoy giving the tour. We really appreciated her!
An amazing experience. A retreat for our souls! Everything was top notch, well thought out and beautifuly orchestrated. We stayed on the grounds and the accommodations were perfect and designed gorgeously. The restaurant and food were impeccable and the Turtle Bar was such a fun time. It was like we were stepping back in time. I can’t say enough about the decor as it was perfect to the era. Everything was pristine. We cannot wait to return.
