REVIEWS OF Chitimacha Museum IN Louisiana

John Walling

Very nice museum. Well worth a visit. Small donation is fine, and appreciated.

This is worth the drive. The museum is small and out of the way. We learned about the Chitimacha Native Americans who lived in this area. They have had a rough past from the people who tried to convert them to their christian god religion. I love seeing that they are now moving back to their heritage and living their life how they want instead of how the christian god people were making them live.

Definitely a place you would like to visit if you are interested in the Chitimatcha people and their history. Beautiful museum with lots of unique regalia, traditional woven baskets, dug out canoes, etc. Free admission but donation appreciated. You can easily spend 1.5 hours on average.

Roger Chatelain

Complete history of the Chitimacha people and their struggle through the early 1700s until present. Baskets and jewelry made by thr Chitimacha tribe throughout history.

I brought my third grade students here to learn about the history of the Chitimacha Tribe. The class and I were amazed at all the information, stories and artifacts shared with us during our visit. I highly recommend taking all Louisiana students to this museum to learn about our history. Big thank you to the tribe for the all the work they are doing to preserve their culture!

Henry Johnston

Nice people, spent a lot of time answering my questions. Not very big but did have some cool stuff.

Claire Fallou

Very nice museum, small-ish but gives a wealth of information about the past and present history of the Chitimacha tribe. I had a wonderful tour with a very interesting guide who provided a lot of info and background on the items on display. Those interested in the tribe should take a look at writings by Roger Stouff, whose father was Chief of the tribe a few decades ago.

Melanie Dara

Exceptional museum. They present their history very well.

Zeb Mayhew III

Really nice displays. A little hard to find the place though. Really interesting and worth the stop if you're passing through.
