I absolutely love Capitol Park Museum. It is the bestmuseum in Baton Rouge. The exhibits are fun and the art galleries upstairs are always a delight and change quite often. The exhibits upstairs really give you insight to Louisiana. Definitely a place to go to if in Louisiana!
A fine museum celebrating the history and culture of Louisiana. A few of the highlights include a complete shrimp fishing boat, a Civil War era submarine, and a mock-up of Cosimo Matassa's recording studio with original equipment. Matassa's studio recorded many early artists who helped launch rock and roll - Fats Domino, Allen Tousaint, Little Richard, Lee Dorsey, and many others.

Awesome Museum on Louisiana culture
Very neat exhibit!
Excellent museum
Devoted to everything pertaining to Louisiana. Louis Armstrong, Huey Long. From the beginning with first settlers and the Louisiana purchase to Mardi Gras celebrations. Won't be bored here. Marvelous museum covering all of Louisiana. Done in sections. Covers history, cultures, foods. Separate sections for the history of jazz, mardis gras and native americans. A real gem
$6 admission. Plan on 2 hours. Great Civil War section. Museum is "The history of Louisiana" oriented in a progressive manner: Spanish, British, French, Confederate, to U.S., Agriculture, Marti Gras, etc.. High quantity displays and many original artifacts. However: bring earplugs - many loud displays - you hear 2 or 3 simultaneously while reading unrelated signs, and be advised that on weekdays elementary school field trips - 500 unrestrained, unsupervised, undisciplined, very vocal children - who are not as interested in museums as those of us who paid - will be running around and yelling.
Allow plenty of time.
Great for weddings
Awesome place to learn some new things.
Learn everything you need to know about Louisiana history and culture.
We had a nice time here with the kids. It was very informative.
Pretty good place to get to know Louisiana. Just across from the state capitol which is a must to visit.
Great collection of Louisiana history and culture. The admission is very affordable. Parking close by is a little tricky but its worth the walk.
Extremely RUDE workers
I had a great time at this museum and my daughter was thoroughly entertained. The people working there were very helpful and the exhibits were both educating and visually appealing. My family had a great time and I would recommend this to any family looking to have a good time in Baton Rouge.
Beautiful place
Love this place!! You must visit if you are ever in the capitol city...Baton Rouge, LA

Best place to hold an event... wonderful setting and Ashley is the best person to work with.
Great museum eeverybody who goes there raves about the exhibits
I went with a field trip and it was a horrible experience. No one was polite. It was unorganized and the kids were just ready to go as we all were.
Exciting Place
Interest place
Even as a Louisiana native, I learned something new at every turn!
Absolutely amazing museum. This is a must see for all visitors and natives of Louisiana. What a hidden gem!!
Much more than I anticipated the history, the beginnings of Jazz and Blues, and all early tools and machines....WELL DONE!!
Beautiful place for weddings!!
Amazing information
Pretty nice museum.
Going there today to decorate for a wedding
So much information, somewhat interactive. We were there two hours, still didn't make it all the way through.
Beautiful venue. Helpful staff.
Went there by accident. Had a wonderful time. Very interesting and informative.
Nice...needs soda vending or available in gift shop...hot day needed refreshment
Great museum! Lots of information. Could have definitely used more than one hour there!
Lots of things to look at, so plan time accordinglt
I wish I could give this 6 stars. We weren't even planning on visiting this place, but a volunteer at the New State Capital suggested it. It might be one of the best Museum visits I have ever had. I don't even have much interest in the history of Louisiana, but this was unbelievable. Cost is $6 to get in, but it is more than worth it. They take you through the Purchase, through the various wars, Huey Long, Satchmo, life on the river, history of slavery and food production. They have a full size shrimping boat and combine. That is all on the first floor. The second floor is a walkthrough the various regions of Louisiana with details about the various music, festivals, celebrations, customs, traditions, languages, etc. It was so well done and put together. I can't compliment this place enough. We are planning a second visit because we ended up taking so much time in this place and we still felt we could have spent another hour. Go see this place. Amazing.
Very interesting compilation of historic and cultural elements of the state of Louisiana. Very affordable for a museum of such quality. Worth the visit, I wish I have had a couple of more hours to go through everything in more depth.
There is a lot of info about Louisiana here. It is great.
Very nice and informative
Amazing exhibits!
It is a great place
Field trip for kids and adults in need of a history lesson..
Educational...
Always has fabulous, unique programming and events. Best museum to learn about Louisiana Culture of all the Louisiana State Museums.
Cool photo ops
Nice place to take a date
This museum was awesome!!! So super proud of my Louisiana heritage. Here the past and present collide into a beautiful collection from all areas of our great state. I could have stayed here for hours but we were on a time crunch and with a group. My 11 year old who isn't typically a museum buff, begged me to bring her back so we can have more time. We will be back.
Excellent
Location and love to have receptions and parties there because I love your Capitol View on the outside from your porch and I love your porch. It is romantic to see Capitol and its beautiful park. Super hospitality, love your people. Would love to see more Louisiana history.
Very informative
Great hidden gem in the city.
Fun family friendly and lots to see....great staff and lots of history...
You definitely owe it to yourself to visit this museum. I believe it is a hidden treasure of Baton Rouge. The exhibits are colorful, interesting and engaging. Definitely add Capital Park Museum to your list of things to do in BR

Such a cool place with a lot of Louisiana specific exhibits!
Set up a wedding for my employer, Billy Heroman Flowerland. The staff was exceptional!! Ms. Ashley was great to work with!
Our students really seemed to enjoy the museum. I wish we'd had more time or perhaps a guided tour from someone who could have brought some of it to life for them. They were particularly interested in the music, Mardi Gras, and slavery sections because they learned things they'd never heard before.
Awesome venue.
It was well done. Don't miss it. Takes about 2 hours
Very nice overview of LA.
Nice
One of the best tours I have ever been to. I went with my son's class field trip and it was priceless. I wish I would have had enough time to go up to the tower.
This is such a GREAT museum, and totally worth the admission price!

Nice cultural exhibition of La parishes and music reasonable prices offering senior discounts.
All I can really say is that it's a great place for my family to catch the Spanishtown parade.
Very nice place. My family and I had an awesome time.
Very interesting displays! Easy to self navigate the flow so you see everything!
Very good displays about local history.

The museum was highly recommended to us by a staffer at the State Capitol, and we were not disappointed. It's huge, with one floor devoted to local history and a second floor covering local culture. Both sets of exhibits are great, although the cultural stuff is more entertaining (think food, language, Mardi Gras, etc.) while the history is more informative
Very nice.
Très intéressant pour se faire une idée de la Louisiane et de son histoire en un seul endroit
Very educational for all ages. Even natives of Louisiana can learn something here.
Awesome field trip
A fun Crash course of Louisana history.
Good family fun
Lots of great exhibits here! Very colorful and educational displays! We enjoyed our visit very much!
My boyfriend and I visited the museum on a Thursday which gave us ample time to linger at each exhibit and just relish the history and time we spent learning about this great state. We have been here for two n half years working and travel nationwide but absolutely love the rich history of Louisiana. If you have a chance take the time to stand still and learn.
Really cool place to visit. There was a lot of information on Louisiana from the foundation of the state to the music and the impact the state has as a whole. I was blown away seeing the artifacts from Louis Armstrong, amazing to see history that up close and personal. The most amazing part was seeing the hearse that carried Dr. King. I stood there for at least 5 minutes just in awe at how close I was to someone so important to our history. A truly humbling experience, and that is an understatement as I really don't have words to describe the power I felt there.
Really well done! We went on a Saturday and it must have been an anomaly as there was hardly anyone there. Really enjoyed Louis Armstrong and cultural upstairs exhibits.
Very informative
(Translated by Google) Very nice. Nice to relax and park very well maintained. The interior is superb. Very nice view of the 27th floor (Original) Tres sympa. Agréable pour se détendre et parc très bien entretenu. L'intérieur est superbe. Tres belle vue du 27ème etage
Baton rouge is full of neat places and this is just one of them.
Wonderful place that is rich with Louisiana's history.
Capitol is very ornate and the grounds behind it are awesome. Ringing the replica liberty bell is a must.
Good place to learn about Louisiana's history and culture
One of my all time favorite wedding reception venues.
Love this museum and the surroundings are beautiful for a nice walk with the family!!
Great little museum. The exhibits are well put together and I enjoyed learning about the history and culture of Louisiana. As an added bonus there was an art gallery displaying art created by Louisiana artists. Thoroughly enjoyable and would be a great place for kids and families.
Great place for all ages
Covers a lot of LA history such as wars, jazz / music, Mardi gras, industry, and various people. Don't skip the 2nd floor _ it covers the Mardi Gras, musical history & regional hi-lites. It's directly in front of the new State Capitol & is free. Parking is curbside & can be tricky. If you're in the area visiting or passing through you should make time to visit.
(Translated by Google) Very good reception, very interesting exhibition (Original) Très bon accueil, exposition très intéressante
Great to see out culture and history
Really nice but start upstairs for local flavor. The exhibits me to be a lot more interactive you will still enjoy yourself and learn a lot about the state for a very fair price
A wonderful display of Louisiana's history!
Great museum outlining everything you could possibly want to know about Louisiana. Only $6/adult

Awesome had a great time took my 9 yr old grandson

Fun museum showing off Louisiana. Bottom floor has history of the Louisiana purchase and top floor has Madi gras, country music, and different cities located in Louisiana.
The Capital Park Museum was awesome. They have lots of great exhibits dealing with the history of Louisiana and its people. The kids had an amazing time. My son can't wait to go back. The people were very nice and knowledgeable.
Hidden gem in Baton Rouge. Fantastic setting for events with stunning view of the State Capitol! Exhibits cover a lot of Louisiana's history.
It is interesting a lot, I love the place
(Translated by Google) There is so much to see. I did not see a famous Louisian musician in France: Jerry Lee Lewis (Original) Il y a tellement à voir. Je n'ai pas vu un musicien Louisiannais célèbre en France : Jerry Lee Lewis
Fun, whimsical museum filled with history and information about Louisiana. It's a well laid out museum, with lots to see. Not like any other museum I've ever visited.
Musée très ludique. Beaucoup de choses à voir mais pas mal de répétition et trop d'infos en même temps. Mais c'est marrant
This museum is so awesome. Really goes into incredible detail on the history of La and has beautiful exhibits for each thing. Upstairs is more about music, Mardi Gras and the Louisiana lifestyle. Would highly recommend going to this museum. On the first sunday of each month it's free admission!
Every time I come to this place I am overjoyed it's always clean and the people are so friendly
Very nice museum and not expensive. My kids had fun but they moved to fast my wife and I will be going back on our own
Cute little museum that has more than I expected. Love the regional information in the upstairs section as well as music and Mardi Gras sections.
