REVIEWS OF Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium IN Louisiana

Dria & Bean

This place was super cool. I feel like zoo and aquariums are all generally the same. This was different. The butterfly sanctuary was awesome but I highly recommend the theater in there! Would be a great place to bring kids.

Furious George

A great place to spend a couple of hours. So much more than just bugs behind windows. Be sure to watch the 4d movie experience too. If you get a ticket for the zoo and aquarium all on one ticket it works out to be $15 per thing which is excellent value. The staff were very knowledgeable. Not a huge place but you can expect to spend between 1 and 2 hours here

Samantha Rodriguez

So beautiful and so much to see.

Christina C.

I ate bugs here for the first time! Yes you heard that right. Apparently bugs are a popular delicacy for 80% of the worlds countries. They have a free bug buffet here! I also learned that maggots are actually baby flies! Very interesting place!

Jared Norris

Is a place for a true bug lover. I visited with a NO city pass as a place to check out on the walk back to the hotel. Cool historical building. Butterfly garden was definitely the best part. Would stop in if looking for extra to do with city pass not sure about paying $25 for single adult entry.

Maria Emerson

Its in a federal building, so be ready to go through a security check. There was a cafe, and they gave out free cookies- filled with crickets. I had one, it was yummy. Hands on bug exhibits, and a very beautiful Japanese garden/butterfly room (with Koi pond) at the end. Fully intend to go again.

Marco Biffi

What a beautiful collection of butterfly. The displays are very creative and definitely worth checking out.

star0334

I am an Entomologist by profession, and this is a very well put together place. So very much to see, and a little something for everyone! I spent 3 hours there and could have spent even more time if I hadn’t had an appointment.

David Koester

Great displays of all kinds of insects. Butterfly garden was fantastic. Cricket cookies were delicious.

Léo Talbot

We really enjoy for the price, without kids and chilling a little more than needed in the butterfly room it took us 1h15 for all

Phylicia Cross

I had a great time here during my solo trip to NOLA. If you are staying in the French Quarter, this is probably within walking distance to your hotel. I would recommend visiting this place after breakfast as a great morning/early afternoon activity. I learned so much here and if you aren’t easily freaked out you can actually touch some insects or eat them if you are feeling adventurous! I can’t forget the butterfly garden which as lovely as well.

Shelby McPherson

I really enjoyed all the bugs at this place and the way that they are exhibited. It was neat to see bugs up close and I got to touch a millipede from Africa. Also I ate a cheddar flavored wax worm. Don't really want to do that, like, ever again. The butterfly exhibit was really wonderful!

tracey sotelo

This place was fantastic. I was mesmerized by all of the butterflies flying around and landing on us. The bug exhibits were interesting and we even got to pet a millipede. They have a kitchen where you can eat insects; however, I did not eat any.

Roger Price

Beautiful, lots to see, a great place to bring the kids or see with friends!

AL N

We visited during spring break in March and it was a great destination! There are so many insects to see and it wasn't packed so we could really enjoy the experience. It was really interesting and informative. If you are in New Orleans, you should check it out.

Barbara Revitzer

We LOVE coming here. The whole place is awesome and the butterfly house is beautiful. They will land on you if your calm, so cool! This is at the very top on my son's list of things to do on vacation in New Orleans

Eleni O'Neill

This place is in a federal building so leave what you can at home and be prepared for metal detectors. The butterfly area is lovely and peaceful. Lots of informative bug exhibits, but a bit hard to process if you are at all fearful of insects!!

Miranda Rollins

It's very small! I'm glad we didn't have to pay since we're New Orleans residents that have SNAP. I can't imagine spending over $20 per person to check out a few files eating garbage. The butterfly garden was cool although it was sad seeing so many butterflies dead in between the windows and the window screen. I wouldn't recommend it for tourists. Save your money and go to the zoo instead.

Richard J. Barbalace

Although the "interactive movie" existence will make you feel personally violated, the rest of the exhibits are nicely done. Our child especially enjoyed getting to pet a caterpillar and seeing other bugs close up. The butterfly exhibit is quite small compared to most other similar exhibits I have seen, but the Japanese garden theme is pretty. More could be done to educate the public on how to promote their own garden ecosystems with native plantings and organic gardening. Also, many displays are more decorative than educational.

Aline Marter

Loved the attention from the time we entered the building until the last exposition. The “ Bug” restaurant is a most for adults and children. Very informative and interesting, easy access and easy walk to different places in the city. Will definitely come back!

DINESH BALACHANDRAN

The museum is small and located within the federal building. Their exhibits around the insects and evolution were note worthy but their butterfly garden was way too small. A decent experience but I could have spent my time elsewhere.

Dayn Slaathaug

The insectarium is good for kids but the butterfly garden is a sight for old and young alike.

Lucien Mcbride

This was a fascinating place with great displays of insects to informative plaques. The displays showed the live insects in a near natural environment. There was a fascinating butterfly hatchery that had cocoons of the same species of butterflies that were actually hatching. After which they would then be released into the Japanese garden. Walking through the garden was really cool with butterflies and moths flying all about. A great learning experience for everyone especially children.

Howard Gillett

Amazing place to go with the family. I recommend it highly.

Jeremy Haas

Quite a bit of varied exhibits. It is worth a visit

Edlyn D'Souza

Loved visiting this place. It's well-kept and there is a lot to learn. There is even a bettle petting zoo. Definitely great for kids and adults.

Shawn B

You got some really rude people at your door doing security.

Katherine McCusker

This is a great escape from the typical New Orleans experience. The museum itself is interesting and interactive, for both the young and old. Very informative in the context of Louisiana! The Butterfly Garden was lovely, and a lot of fun. I loved the Japanese Garden theme. Please be aware that this museum is in a federal building so you do have to go through a metal detector and have your bags pass through a xray.

Jacob Palmer

Very interesting and engaging exhibit. You can do the whole thing in about an hour. I felt that it was well worth the experience. I did not get a chance to eat the fried bugs but I would have liked to. The butterfly garden was very enjoyable as well.

Rishi Deshpande

The exhibit is very well designed and brings the importance of insects to our attention. All the displays are thought out nicely. The most memorable part of visit was the butterfly garden, followed by the insect café which used bugs in common dishes where you can't even tell it contains bugs.

Heather King

The butterfly exhibit was amazing! My little cousin adored it and, because her dress had a flower print, she was consistently mobbed by beautiful butterflies. It made her entire day. Later she had me eat a cricket cookie- yes folks, they serve cookies with crickets and ants in them here- and I still had a wonderful time. P.S. they serve other food without bugs.

Andrea Turner

Very knowledgeable, the butterfly garden is at the end but was my favorite part. I wish little kids (and their parents) would listen when they're told NOT to touch the butterflies unless they land on you first...

ninja pirate

It's not very big, but it's never really crowded. Bugs aren't my thing. However, the butterflies are worth it to go see!

Ruth Ahearn

So many insects! The whole family enjoyed it!

Perri Phillips

The insectarium was more enjoyable than the aquarium because the aquarium was under construction. It is located inside a government building so they do bag checks.

Jayme Warner

The butterfly garden is a peaceful, relaxing place to enjoy the beauty of the butterflies. There is also a tortoise, make sure you get to see him. The displays of moths and butterflies are fascinating, with information about the differences between them, and which insects are the state insects for each state. I'm not a big fan of bugs, but the information is very good and the displays are nice.

anna thedamned

This place is great if you love insects. They have almost any type of bug you can think of easily accessible to view up close in their glass containers. It's a place for all the family to enjoy. I would recommend get the tickets bundled and go to the aquarium too, otherwise they are a little on the expensive side. It is located in a government building so don't bring any knives and get ready to have your purses and backpacks scanned and pass through a metal detector. The butterfly garden itself it's not that big, you'll be done with it quickly but it is quite beautiful to experience. Be mindful of the doors and the markings on the floor on where you should stand, they are a little faded and people didn't seem to realize that they were overcrowding the space and triggering the sliding doors. Careful where you step!

Arnold Zamalin

Great atmosphere. Interesting place to visit for adults and kids alike

Ewan Grantham

Most of the museum is a long hall with exhibits, and a couple side rooms. Butterfly room is at the end as if to reward you for going through the rest. Entry requires a full scan and search similar to going on a flight. It's ok, but probably would not visit again.

Chris and Lauren Lenz

I visited the Insectarium on a Thursday afternoon and had a great experience! They weren’t super busy and I was able to take my time in each exhibit, overall I spent about 2 hours here. I loved the atmosphere and how friendly the staff are! My favorite part is that you can view the entomologist preparing the chrysalises that become the butterflies in the “Butterflies in Flight” exhibit. The 10-minute film “Awards Night” is cute too!

Rhonda White

Love coming here with my Mom, we go every year! I love new orleans and this place is and always will be a staple of my childhood

Matthew Mason

Cool place. Take in the insect show. Butterfly garden was cool.

Jocelyn Davis

The exhibits are creative and the flow of the displays let's you from tripping over other visitors. The are more live exhibits than I thought there would be. It's a good family outing if you're bringing kids, but still interesting for adults visiting. The butterfly garden was nice. I think the fish were the best part of the garden. It's a good place to spend a nice afternoon. Takes about two hours to go through if you look at everything.

Buu-Tran Duong

I'm not used to paying more than $20 for a museum, but once I went inside, I fully understood why. This place is huge. They even have a shop where you can eat food with insects inside. Note to self, many insects actually taste like nutty chicken. Not bad! My favorite part was at the very end, when you get to go and see the butterfly garden. The koi fish pond. Watching cocoons. Looking at the flora and fauna They set up to attract the butterflies.

Arika Arndt

Really fun, unique place with lots of live bugs and interesting facts. Exhibits were very well done. We're (nerdy) adults but kids would love it too. Worth a visit if you have a couple spare hours!

Mr. Elephant

This place was really well made. It has a set path that you don't even realise you followed. You just were having fun.

chris harvey

So much to learn and explore great for everyone

Alison Blanchard Shields

Very nice. The butterfly exhibit was a great experience!

Neil Armstrong

Oh my gosh! This place was amazing. Definitely a highlight during our trip to New Orleans! Look for the pink katydid. I hear it's one of the rarest bugs they have in the place! Troy was so knowledgeable and helpful. You can tell he has a passion for insects!

Amy Southerland

I love insects and am trying to instill that in my boys. We had a great time and learned lots. My guys were wary of the insect cuisine but they were troopers and tried everything! We want to go back again very soon.

sylvester sanchez

Kids loved it. So much more than butterflies, every bug you can think of in north America and Malaysia (apparently they have so creepy looking bugs there). At the end of the tour, you are in a Asian inspired garden with Coy fish and butterflies of all types. Great place to have kids calm down and relax and wait for their butterfly to land on them. My girl took longer than most, but we got one her ankle. Lots of fun, but price is a little high.

K. Ellis

The museum is probably more enjoyable for small children. As an adult with teens, we did not enjoy the museum. We went to see the butteries, mainly, and were disappointed in how few there were. Also, we were not allowed to touch them. Some of the reviews made it seem that you could hold them, etc... The museum is very small for the price point (around $65 for 3 of us with a coupon). The Audubon Aquarium is much better if you are trying decide between the two.

Stephanie Reida

They had a friendly someone outside who shared information on insects while you were waiting to get inside. The exhibits were educational and entertaining. I enjoyed the hands on experience of getting to touch an insect I normally would not see.

Eryn Anderson

My husband and I visited here on our honeymoon and it was one of the highlights of our trip this far. We both enjoy going to museums and zoo's whenever we can, so the Audobon pass for this, the aquarium, and the zoo was a wonderful deal. I would definitely recommend that trifecta to anyone looking for some educational fun on their trip to NOLA

Amber Turrentine

The first thing you will notice is security as you walk in. The only place we ran into metal detectors. No complaints just strange that the zoo and aquarium don't have the same set up. There were plenty of interactive centers for the kids to play with. The staff had bugs out that you could "pet". This was a family favorite. The 10 minute theater movie is a must. The seats move and air blows at just the right times to go along with the story. There is a butterfly garden just before the exit into the gift shop. (Nice placement, parents prepare yourselves) The butterflies flew right up to us and even landed on one of the kids. There is not re-entry once you leave the building so make sure you see everything before walking out the door.

Eva Morgan

A cool place to visit. Interesting facts and bugs. Recommend visiting. Buy tickets online to save $

Aryka Collier

Great experience for families and friends who love conservative efforts

Miriam Kramer

I called in the morning to ask questions about some policies regarding membership. I planned a trip, driving an hour away, according to those answers only to be told the information was wrong and they would not honor what was told. Spoke to the manager as well, no progress. Then the manager tracks down my daughter in the facility an intimidating manner asking to see the membership card but wouldn't explain why even when pointedly asked. I wouldn't recommend this facility and will not be renewing my membership again.

Alfreda James

Fantastic place for kids and adults who love bugs. Friendly staff, too

Brad Sciullo

Fun place but don't buy a ticket for here, buy the multi pass for here the zoo and aquarium

Julia Westerfield

Facts we didn't know or appreciate about the necessity of bugs. Friendly butterflies.

Jessica Weiss

This place is amazing and definitely worth checking out if youre in the area. It was very informative in many different types of insects and the butterfly garden was so beautiful

Victoria Archer

Had so much fun! My toddlers and my niece had a blast and my husband and I enjoyed it as well!

Taina Benjamin

Had a great experience here. I really loved the Butterfly Garden! Probably one of the better ones that I have been to.

P S

Educational, great place for family. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. .

Josh Muzatko

Daddy daughter date, a great bonus spot in new Orleans. The butterfly room for me was terrifying but my daughter loved it and we went twice. They have one of the only two blue pigmented animals in the animal kingdom, the butterfly. So stoked to see that. Hope to go back.

Brian Shillingford

It's pretty cool. For what the prices are, I was expecting it to be a bit bigger. Not much "bang-for the buck" but it's still a place you should visit.

Amy Buras

Nicely done, it just seems a bit over priced when compared to the aquarium and zoo. It doesn't take long to get through the whole thing. My favorite part is the butterfly exhibit.

Ayman Salam

Really fun experience. The insectarium is really cool but the butterfly garden sells the experience.

Josephine Fleming

We loved it. My fiance is a huge nerd and I fell in love with a shocking number of new insects. Wait was short- security wasn't hard to get through- then we were free to roam and explore at our own pace. I saw multiple insects that I've only seen in an Indiana Jones film. This place can keep a kid entertained for hours. Butterfly Garden was one of the largest I've ever experienced. They actually land right on your chest and hang out for a minute. Also- the cocoon hatching area outside of the butterfly garden was fascinating and it was not at all unusual to watch butterfly's emerging in real time. Gift shop- don't miss it. Great souvenirs; again especially for the kiddos.

christina langham

wonderful place to visit, eating bugs, not my style, but everyone enjoyed it sooo much. would definitely recommend. just beautiful and everyone is so nice. best place for all ages if you like bugs , get to see a small movie too.

Kathy Roberts

Beautiful place. Loved the live creatures

David Thomas

Fun, pretty, easy little stroll. It is in the US customs building though, so you do have to go through a security checkpoint to enter.

Jeremy Morrieson

Had an awesome time with my family. Staff were very knowledgeable and had a ton of fun facts. Make sure you try the chocolate chip cricket cookies.

K C

This place is awesome! It's HUGE and has tons of stuff to see! The butterfly garden is the coolest part of the whole exhibit!

Jennifer Lee

Very informative, kept us cool for a good 3 hours. My 8 year old loved it. They have a butterfly house, a 4-d movie, and a cafe where you can try bugs for free.. (yes to eat) my 8 year old was brave and tasted it like a charm! I highly recommend. FYI, no firearms in this building as it is owned by the customs building..

Noelle Reznik

Worth a visit, especially on a hot afternoon. The butterflies never disappoint. All the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable.

Connie Martinez

Nice experience, particularly interested f you try the insects ;p

Jessica Boatner

We had the opportunity to visit on national museum day for free! My daughter and I had never been. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as we marvelled at the intricate design of insects. The 4d video is trully full of surprises ! Children And adults will not be disappointed! My favorite is the butterfly garden. Apparently they are use to people taking pictures

Joshua Miller

Great for kids. Adults skip to the end for the Japanese steam room full of giant butterflies and koi. No pocket knives allowed. Be aware.

Nidhi Shah

I loved the butterfly garden the most and the amazing interactive nature of the museum for children. It is perfect for elementary and middle school children to enjoy and learn about science.

Adam Reida

Fun and super informative. The butterfly garden is the best. Don't miss out on the chance to eat bugs. The tasting experience is fun and free.

KinD One

Science presented with charm and the personal touch--people who work there are great and obviously love their subjects!

Andy Wilson

Fantastic place for anyone interested in bugs and butterflies! Really enjoyed the exhibits and the staff were very informative and helpful.

tammy simms

A good place to bring your kids very educational on insects and butterflies

M K

Kids learn, I learn, we all have so much fun

Andres Barcelo

A unique experience with a myriad of butterflies and a peaceful spot where you can walk amongst them. Fun for small kids, my 4 year old daughter very much enjoys it.

Jay Kim

This place may gross you out, but my toddler is really into bugs right now so my wife and I thought it would be a great educational experience. The Insectarium is, of course, not as large as the Audobon Zoo, but there are a number of exhibits and a wide variety of bugs. There are also a lot of interactive exhibits, including an area where you can pet a caterpillar and other insects. At the end, there is a lovely Butterfly Garden set up in the theme of a Japanese garden that is a nice way to end your visit. If you have any interest in visiting here and the zoo, I would recommend looking into one of the membership pass options. Otherwise tickets costs can add up quickly depending on the size of your party.

Christina Velasquez

I love butterflies and two landed on me I was ELATED! Every age group will be entertained and educated by all their exhibits and shows.

Anthony Burgos

A little pricey but it's money for a good cause. Nice exhibits. We got to eat bugs too...yes EAT! The butterflies and Koi were only outshined by the interactive movie. Fun kid friendly place in NOLA.

James Gaus

Bugs! Bunches of

David Mulligan

Great exhibits for kids and adults, butterfly house, and a bug-cafe where you can try crickets and wax-worms.

Jennifer Short

Fun place to get out of the heat and see some nature! The framed displays were absolutely breathtaking!

Emily Clarrey

Very fun museum! We had a great time here we spent about 1 hour here total so I wouldn't consider this a all day thing!

Stephanie Bittner

The butterfly garden was unimpressive but the best part is supposedly the movie and I didn’t watch the film

Christopher Duhon

Amazing experience for myself and my children alike. Facts about insects as well as what it takes to get these facts.

Isobel Gale

Absolutely amazing, I learnt so much here! This is great for kids as it is interactive and there is so much information. The environment was great, it was like stepping into a jungle from the big city. 100% would recommend

CSN1017

Amazing all around! No complaints at all

David White

Cool for an up close and personal bug experience. My 5 year old loved it!

Liz Coffee

Incredible insectarium with a lot of great exhibits. It's definitely geared towards kids, but even as adults we had fun; also, we didn't feel weird as two adults wandering around like you sometimes do with these places (which is good, bc we really didn't know what the feel was going to be like until we'd paid to get in). It has fun kitschy stuff for kids, but there's also a lot of educational material to entertain adults too, so it's really a win-win. The butterfly garden at the end is also freaking magical. It was definitely worth it to get the Audubon package. Even if you only do 2 of the 3 attractions, it's worth it!

Whitney Baker

Obviously the butterfly garden is the best part, but the other insects were interesting, too. We tried some cricket cookies and they weren't so bad! We went around christmas and they had decorated all of the bug enclosures for Christmas, it was very cute. It is a very child friendly attraction in New Orleans.

Jason Shlansky

Amazing and educational. Great for kids and adults. Easily spend 2 hours here. Worth a quick visit. Thought it was alittle off taste that their video is sponsored by a pesticide company. Sent the wrong message.

LaQueena Compere

Super Neat! You must watch the 4d short film!!! Staff very friendly and professional. Ms. Tina Rocks!

Audrey Warren

The Audubon Insectarium and Butterfly Garden was a delightful experience for our PreK - 8th grade campers! They learned about how insects impact the ecology and man's existence here on earth. There were awesome exhibits with in-depth explanations about the insect's habitat, eating patterns and effects on nature. The 10 minute film on insect nature was sure to amaze while the cave held an electrifying surprise! Souvenirs could be bought at the gift shop and some insects were available for "touch sessions." My personal favorite was the Butterfly Garden where the children could stand still and butterfly's freely floated around and sometimes lit on the kids' arms! All in all, it was a great experience!

steven chang

Fun spot with a large collection of different types of bugs and very informative. Fun place to get out of the summer heat and let the kids see very exotic bugs from around the world. And at the very end you can walk thru the butterfly sanctuary where the butterfly fly around freely. Such a great time and very easy on the wallet.

michael m Alvarez

An opus of nature's brilliant colors playing before your very eyes. Who can deny the beauty on display here? Also, what a lovely school of koi fish comingled in the same exhibit space.

Raymond Rasmussen

Awesome! Admission was a little high but super cool!

Liz Rose

Very interesting and educational, yet entertaining this place has so many bugs to learn about. Even if afraid of the bed bugs lurking under the bed this place is still worth visiting. They even have a little cafe for people to taste these fascinating little insects.

stephanie miller

Visited today for the first time with my daughter, this place is amazing! We loved it. Also shout out to the employee with the spider web haircut ( super cool, loved the connection with your job ;) ), she was super knowledgable and helpful! My daughter is thinking about getting a butterfly in her hair now haha. I highly recommend going here, not only for the education and the child friendly environment but also for the bright and colorful team that works there.

Dustin Romero

My three year old ate cajun seasoned bugs and bug cookies. Delicious.

Vira Cellee

Be prepared to enter through a security check. The museum is in a federal building so a security check should be expected and can be gotten through quickly if you don't have anything you shouldn't. I wouldn't have paid the full fee for this museum but, it's great if you get the Audubon experience tickets. This is great for little kids! Quite a few bugs to look at and a few interactive experiences. You can taste bugs free! The 4D theater was cute. The butterfly room was amazing! Got to see so many kinds of butterflies. Took about an hour to get through the whole thing.

Batrek Yassa

Truly a gem, who would have thought insects could be so beautiful and fascinating! The butterfly garden is absolutely amazing, and the exhibits are so beautiful. I went with little enthusiasm but I left delighted. The staff here is also really stellar, they’re all so nice and they really care about the insects and are very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place, even if you’re not a fan of insects, it’s a unique experience and a nice break from the city.

Bill Me

Exhibits were both interesting. Lots of roaches! All sorts of interesting bugs and some other Louisiana wildlife like gators and fish. The little kids in our group (under 2) enjoyed but did not hold their attention like the aquarium did. A bit young still for this one. The butterfly garden was very cool. Wear bright clothes and sit still and they will visit you. Please give me a like if you find this review helpful.

Eunju Namkung

Loved it. So much to marvel at. So entranced by the insect specimens they have. Bug cafeteria so cool and friendly. I'm so blown away by this creative facility. Great for all ages

Neon Black

Incredibly fun, if you like learning. Priced well and friendly staff. All the animals were well taken care of and safe.

JO Don baker

It was nice but u get riped off parking out their

Ana Caroline Paiva Gandara

It was my first visit at an insectarium. For kids, it's amazing! For adults that like insects and related animals, worth the visit. But for adults that hate them, maybe won't appreciate it. The models are nice, you can try eating some bugs, I had a lot of fun.

Antonio Daniel

This is a pretty modern and well maintained insectarium. The number of exhibits in the relatively small space is impressive. It definitely doesn't feel like a tourist trap. My only issue is the cost of admission. It seems very steep for the size of the location.

Christhian Delgado

Very informative and it has a great display of insects. Felt in love with moths, I had no idea they had bright beautiful colors.

Zachary Kirst

Very fun and informative museum. Staff was friendly and the place was very clean. Don't forget that it's a government building and there's a metal detector!

Timothy Dolese

Was really good! They could have a little more, though. It only took like an hour and a half to go through everything.

Jerry Snyder

Make sure to give the eat a bug shop a go. Amazing how if you didnt know....you wouldnt know. Staff super friendly....cookies were great.

Linda Doucet

Didnt get to go, being a country girl i carry a knife at all times..... Beimg a federal building you cant have one. They said small knifes wouldf be ok, but my 5in one counting the handle was not small.. Oh well.

Tom McGee

Great place for kids! Butterfly garden is amazing. Be aware security is overboard here as it is in a federal building.

Larry Compton

What a treat! There are many surprises at this wonderful museum. I won't spoil it for you. Perfect for all ages.

Tommy Rebik

Very cool place, wasn't grossed out by the bugs. Very clean and educational for the little ones.

Marylebone Scriptural Reasoning

Lovely little museum all about insects. Good for children.

Recaldo Gilpin

Not a great variety of insects and/butterflies but it is what it is. I enjoyed my very shirt and quick visit here. Came here to see the butterflies and scorpions. There were no live scorpions though. I want to check out the aquarium next when I have some time. Great place for the kids by the way not for adults though

Cody Lewis

The museum is very clean and large enough to take up at least an hour examining different insects and reading about them. They offer a café where you can try different bugs as a snack ranging from BBQ crickets to meal worms. The butterfly garden is beautiful and calming and you will undoubtedly have butterflies land on you so you can observe them closely. For the price, it's a great experience.

Steve Hall

Such a fun place! Kids loved seeing all the bugs and the butterfly garden.

Jose A. Alejandro

Lots of species of insects and information off all. Beautiful butterflys in the garden that you going to enjoy interact with them.

Samantha Alms

Located in a federal building, so you must go through a metal detector. Lots to see and do. As someone who isn't fond of bugs it's still a fun and educational experience, and the butterfly garden is especially stunning. It does not take long to move through this facility and it is within walking distance of the aquarium, so consider doing both in the same day.

I K

Fun, a little humid in areas, but excellent for photographers, and even better for kids, just keep a hold on them there are some area with railings with gaps over water.

Spencer Rice

Beautiful exhibit but be warned, it is a federal building, you go through security and metal detectors, one guard was perfectly fine, the other SLAMMED the tray down on the rollers in front of my 4 year old because she touched the rollers twice. Got my dad blood boiling but what can you do, it's a kids exhibit...

Jesco Sales

Fun place for kids. $60.00 for 2 ole people and one grandkid. Too much money to look at bugs.

A Hoogendoorn

Audubon gives a nice display of the insect world around us. It gives a lot of information about the various insects. For a garden in the middle of the city it's a nice size. But the Butterfly garden in the end is, Besides the insect food tasting, definitely the highlight of your visit. A lot of the bugs are displayed, I had hoped to see more living insects.

Kristie James

My grandson had an amazing time seeing all the bugs and the staff was very Hands-On explaining several of the different exhibits even taking some bugs out of the different exhibits for us

J. Miller

Great experience, lots of neat live insects and interesting exhibits. The butterfly garden is amazing. Note that you have to go through a federal security checkpoint (very similar to TSA) in order to get into the facility, since it is in a federally owned building. Also, depending on when you visit, the place may be crowded with schoolkids.

Eric Eakright

The butterfly exhibit was amazing. One landed on my wife and walked around for quite some time. The baby alligators were awesome amongst the other creepy creatures. Highly recommended.

Keith Kelly

Very entertaining and informative. Our kids loved it.

Brandon Mccoy

It’s very safe, Very clean, and the staff is eager to teach you about the insects. I learned a lot about bugs that I didn’t know

Lee Jarvis-Werbenjaegerman

Informative exhibits; friendly staff; nice gift shop!

Andre Noel

This was pretty great. Highly recommend.

Super fun and probably one of the most interesting things I got to do in NOLA. There were so many interesting exhibits and interactive things for us to play with. The theater room is whatever And the butterfly room was the highlight of our trip there. Super cool and unique experience

I visited the Insectarium because it was packaged with a ticket I bought at the aquarium and wandered along the next day not expecting much. Instead it turned out to be an unexpected highlight of my trip. There was a surprising amount to do inside. There were various displays of numerous bugs (the ant farm was remarkably soothing to watch). You could eat real cooked bugs in their kitchen (which was fascinating and gross at the same time). There was a cute interactive show which is similar to A Bugs Life one from Disney which is brilliant for kids. And the butterfly garden was just beautiful. Huge butterflies everywhere that you could observe and photograph - a huge blue one kept landing on me! It was a real treat and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

It was actually pretty cool. They even had a bug cafe with live insects in the tables (you can watch them eat lettuce while you eat).

The kids had a blast and got to eat bugs!

Ok guys, bugs creep me out, BUT I LOVE this place. We come here at least once a week when we're in town. When it's 90 degrees out, this place is perfect. Air conditioned, lots of interesting stuff to touch and look at. My 4yo stays occupied and interested the entire time. And I find something new every time. It's more interesting than yucky. The ants and the millipedes are my favorites. The staff seem to actually like kids, very friendly and engaging. The place is super clean. Lots of places to sit. Wheelchair accessible/handicap friendly. There are well stocked vending machines and a Cafe that gives out tasty samples of bugs to eat. Over 2 years, I've grown brave enough to try everything. The Butterfly Garden is lovely with a cute little Koi Pond. The butterflies will often land on you. There's what my kid calls the Quiet Part for Grown ups, it's a lovely art gallery style area that we never spend enough time in. I could say another hundred things about this place. You should 100% go. And it's close to Canal Street and the Streetcar and Downtown. HINT for FAMILIES: We bought an Audubon Membership because between here, the Aquarium of the Americas, and the Aydubon Zoo, it saves us money based on the frequency we go. HINT FOR GROWNUPS: this place is great even without kids. I've had a fun giggly time there with my friends. This would make a cute place for a daytime date. I think this may be my favorite nonfood/alcohol place in New Orleans.
