Dangerous design. People have been burned & hospitalized from the unmarked, unguarded "eternal flame" in the center of patio memorial. A beautiful mural, exhibits, garden. Such a meaningful memorial. However, it is deeply irresponsible for the flame to remain as it is after injuries and at least one legal settlement due to burn injury.

Absolutely fabulous! We visited here when I was a young child. I might have been 6 are 7 years of age. We were told the stories of the old plantation which were so exciting... Coming back now was even better to hear the stories all again and to see the big oak trees so many memories...

The memorial area needs some upkeep. There isn't much more than what you can see online at their website. There is also a small Acadian and Black History museum - not a lot of information but it was a decent introduction to their histories. The Black museum also has some of the Mardi Gras outfits on display.

Can't believe I missed this & didn't realize it was here! I was in the area recently, but don't typically travel that far west when I go to visit Louisiana since I'm from Houma...will need to make another trip!

The definitive source for the history of the Acadian people who arrived in Louisiana. It's a research repository,memorial, history lesson all wrapped into one. Located right on the banks of Bayou Teche, very close to the original location of Poste des Attakapas, the Spanish military post where the Acadians arrived in St. Martinville.
