REVIEWS OF Waveland State Historic Site IN Kentucky

Joel Stanley

Neat little place to spend an afternoon. The antebellum Manor was well kept and had a lot of interesting stuff inside. There is also a playground which is nice, many shaded picnic tables and a little souvenir shop among all of the historical attractions. The tours are worth taking and are recommended.

Kay Hagan-Haller

We visited on a day of what had been billed as a large arts and craft fair with food trucks and tours. There was a coffee truck, a pizza truck and a barbecue truck. Not a big selection. Tours of the house were shortened but informative and guides were well versed in the history of this old hemp plantation. I was also expecting a larger turnout of art vendors --so this was a little disappointing. The old house is beautiful and full of Kentucky history making it worth the entry fee and visit.

Chevalier Seretto

Tours inside the Manor house and outbuildings were already closed for the season (though decorations could be seen on the doors and through the windows). Private Holiday photo sessions could also be arranged! But I was solo this visit, and strolling the grounds is encouraged so I did just that. The house itself is truly a wonder. What I thought was the front of it was actually the side. When I walked around to the left it was then that I noticed the majestic white columns and wide steps leading to the main doors. Everything one imagines when thinking of Southern Estates in bygone days. From the true ice house to the smoke house to the child sized replica of a log cabin, so much to see and photograph. I could imagine myself living there way back when.

Apparently this is the place for professional photography. I think 10 different families were here taking photos. The mansion has a lot of history, but I do believe the grounds could have been a little better landscaped. They do decorate for Christmas and have a Christmas play every year.

I took my mom to tea Tuesday and we both loved it. I'd do it again. Although more savory finger foods would be a plus. I got a little sugared out towards the end.

Love seeing Santa every year!

We went to Dickens Christmas Carol and the cast was great. However, it was very crowded and some scenes you could not see. Would have been a better experience had they limited the number of attendance to no more than 15-20 at a time.

Must visit secret of Lexington. Historical house on beautiful grounds. Great tour of this home is dirt cheap. The learning garden is new and sure to grow. Check the website for the schedule of events - movies shown outside on the barn a few times a year. They show classics like Singing in the Rain, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and The Birds toward October. Playground equipment for the kids also. Daily Tea is a huge hit.

Pam Sutton

Visited Waveland for the first time today. The tour was excellent. The guide was dressed in period dress and was very knowledgeable. She even showed us her layers of under garments - never expected that! I loved seeing the Bible with the names of family member’s marriage dates with one of them dated 2003. There was hair jewelry and other interesting artifacts. I loved everything about this place. I will definitely go back for other events.

Richard Powell

A great historic place in Lexington, KY. Civil War area mansion, old cabins and lots of history. Live re-enacting adds to it. There is a fee, but it is definitely worth it! Great place for family photo shoots, scenery photography and more.

Charles Von Schlutter

Joe Johnson

Jim Everman

A great place for weddings, family gatherings, parties and picnics as well as historical gatherings.

Kay B.

It's nice to see a piece of history. There is a house in the back showing where servants stayed and even an example of a 'hall pass'. What was weird was that there was a wedding going on there. The grounds were beautiful but considering the history why would someone want to have a wedding there??

Matt Whitman

We did family pictures here. There are great scenery and so close to town.

Gary Dodd

Nice tour. It was very informative and didn't feel like it was from a script. More like a family member telling old stories. If you just want to look at things for a minute and move on then the tour might be a little slow as there is a lot of history provided. Grounds were nice and overall I think this was worth the visit.

Monty Reed

Just an awesome place to visit, lots of history. Quiet place to walk around. Highly recommend to visit

Tammy Montgomery

Beautiful

Margaret Nichols

Everytime my mother comes to visit me, our new favorite thing is to do mansion tours. Waveland did not disappoint. Our tour guide was amazing, and had an answer to every single one of our millions of questions. I wish they would go a little more into the spooky side and talk more about ghost activity, but for a more lighthearted tour its great. ake the tour or just take a walk- interesting Antebellum household and historic slave quarters, ice house, smoke house and rolling walk-able grounds.

Lisa Fluharty

Gorgeous!
