Here you will see the feddbacks of people who are using the products of The Speed Art Museum (Museum) in Kentucky.
Now this firm gets a rating of 4.7 stars out of 5 and that score is based on 861 reviews.
As you can see the average score it has is almost the best one, and it is founded on a very high number of reviews, so we can say that the assessment is very faithful. If there are many people who bothered to give their score when they are happy with the service, it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to write feddbacks when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Museum is included in the category of Art museum.
Clean, well taken care of. Lots of beautiful artwork and exhibits.
Went there for a wedding. It was so beautiful and the staff was so sweet and amazing.
Went with a Kindergarten glass. The kids thought some of the stuff was amazing
Very enjoyable museum. I agree with a previous review that it's a bit difficult to navigate. I missed an entire section and didn't even realize until after I left and saw another part of the second flood from the outside.
Great place for a date or just to see some contemporary, modern, and historic art.
This was such an awesome collection of art. I'm not an art junkie but this collection was so varied and quite well put together. After looking through the artwork we had a great lunch at the cafe! I got the orange salad and my husband got the salmon patties. We both really enjoyed our meals and the presentation was definitely what you'd expect from an art museum.
This was the first time since the Speed Art Museum's addition was built on that we had visited. We were surprised on Sunday's the general admission is free but for the special exhibitions it only cost $5. The older part if the museum was for the most part still the same. They built the new addition into the existing museum nicely. It all seems to fit perfectly. In the older section there is a large area for children to interact and be creative. My 8 year old spent a long time here. She enjoyed making a paper quilt and writing a 7 word discription for a painting. They had an image projection room which all children, and not just my own quite enjoyed. As for the art, the exhibition art was interesting, even though I really don't care for the modern early 20th century style. Their large art collection from the Netherlands was quite representative of that style. And the room with the stain glass was pretty but a little too religious for me, but back in the day it seemed ALL the artwork was based from the Bible. They had a beautiful wood panelled room imported from England. Would have been nice if they had a larger plaque and/or discription as why they had this room. Don't get me wrong, the room was pretty, but just seemed like it was missing something. Over all the Speed Art Museum is a nice place to visit.
This is my favorite place in Louisville to be.
Definitely an amazing place of art. For children though, you would probably go to Art Sparks.
We just scratched the surface of all the world / Kentucky art there.Satisfying collections arrayed in a satisfying manner.
A great place to bring the whole family they have to fit a little kid to catch up on your culture or not
An exceptional museum!
Such a good museum. Love that there is an interactive art section.
I went on Sunday when it was free and for being free it was nice. Its alot to take in on the first go but worth checking out.
Excellent we had a great time in the clock exhibit!
If your in Louisville it worth checking out the speed Museum. There is something to see for anyone that enjoys art.
Wonderful museum. Free on Sundays and much to look at. Modern art, interactive area for kids, ancient artifacts and lots of great paintings. Cafe located inside for some food and drinks
I really like this museum. A must visit while you are at Louisville
Staff was friendly, art was amazing, building is beautiful.
Okay I want to talk about the films available to watch at the Speed. I attended the past two Saturdays at the afternoon showings at 3 pm. Great program. Great line up. Recently the Aretha film, the Halston film, Nureyev. All excellent. Mz Robin Burke comes out and gives a little talk at the beginning of the film with a little history of the film being presented. It’s a small intimate little theater that recently upgraded their sound system and did an overhaul on their projectors. How do I know this? Well, Robin told me and everyone in the theater and she is right-the sound is amazing. Robin then offers to anyone who would like a blanket because with the museum’s humidity controls, it can get a little chilly in there. Sweet! After my first visit I packed in my own hoodie. It’s a nice break from the overbearing heat and humidity that is Louisville Kentucky this time of year. if you come in on the North side entrance you get to sneak a peek at the current works being shown as you walk through the museum to the theater. Awesome. There is a parking garage that you can pull up into to park your car, which I did for the past two movies that I saw but next time I’m going to try something different and park on the street across from the museum. Why? I will tell you why. Because on top of the price of the film, it was 7 dollars to park which is a little steep for parking when I’m already paying to see a fiIm. I think that the walk across the street will be fine. There is a cool water feature outside near the entrance to the Museum and we ended up hanging out there and under the ramp of the parking garage after. There are a couple of benches where we sat and chilled. We ran into friends there after the Nureyev movie and we did pretend ballet moves. Also you’re handed a print out with info about the film to read later. Great Program. It makes film seem important again. Film is important! Please support this wonderful series I am certain that you will love it as much as I do...Here’s some pics of us hanging out after. Obviously we are having a great time. Beat the heat and check it out. Oh yeah! Almost forgot...For the later showings the Wiltshire Pantry offers snacks and drinks available for purchase and whatever comes out of that kitchen is always special and always tasty.
What an excellent, educational and relaxing way to spend the day. A wonderful place to visit
A great way to spend a rainy day!! We visit a few times a year!
Even the cafe was great.
Quite a variety of interesting pieces. Lots of unique items you won't find anywhere else. I'm not sure why it is called Speed Art. We arrived with only one hour to peruse and we were rushed and still missed a lot. You definitely need a few hours if you like to read descriptions, pause at pieces and/or take photos (no flash photography ). I would definitely return. Note: Free on Sundays and accepts token donations. I recommend this place.
Today, a special exhibit on Hunter S. Thompson. Where is he, now that we really need him ? Hunter would be able to properly describe that unspeakable swine, Trump.
Great exhibits. I like going with my family. Nice way to spend the day in Louisville.
A lot of really beautiful and unique pieces
My family always enjoy art sparks
Love the children's are.
Giant selection of art. Has something for just about anyone. Lots of famous paintings, local artists, local artifacts and memorabilia. Hosts really cool events almost every month and us even free on Sundays for the time being. Has lots of stuff for kids in the lower section. Parking isn't free but it's a small price to pay if you're already going on a Sunday. Highly recommend to anyone. It even has a small gift shop right near the entrance.
I went to the cinema in the speed and saw the notorious rbg. The movie was fine and the air conditioning was quite chilly. I'd imagine the artifacts in the museum are just as Intriguing as the outside architecture.
Cool broad selection of art and in a really neat building. Just the right size to see in a few hours
Very nice museum and loved the documentary film Aretha Franklin just released.
Great museum, the lower level has some great local history and I loved this old whiskey container.
Great selection, spacious, modern building, well-organized. We covered most of it in one go, but I could easily have spent two days there. The cafe was a pleasant surprise; the food was quite good.
Was really beautiful and interesting I loved looking at all the paintings and sculptures. Was there for quite a while and still didn't see the whole musem. The staff were all friendly and very helpful
Love to visit this place. Just wish the exhibits switched out more often.
The Toni Morrison documentary talkback x Minda Honey was fantastic!
Emerging Diversity of artist backgrounds!
A wonderful treasure in the city, even more so since its $60 million renovation and expansion completed in 2017. Excellent collections and special exhibits, strong cinema program, good cafe. And thanks to a generous endowment, admission is free on Sundays. Well worth a visit and returns.
Love the movie theater and current exhibits.
Went to see the Gonzo exhibit, loved it! Then found myself spending hours looking through the rest of the exhibits.
Good stuff with the museum overall, good collection. Don't care for the virture signaling apparel in the gift shop however. That does not belong.
After hours 5 to 10 gig...Great vittles, music, art, and short flick!
Had a great time, really enjoyed the lipstick poetry. The museum has lots of interesting things. My grand daughter really enjoyed the activities, my son and grand son liked the room that copied your movements. Can't wait to come again
The Speed Museum is absolutely phenomenal! The vast array of exhibits holds something for everyone!
A wonderful venue for a party, and as such I didn't get to see the entire museum in its full glory. However there were some very interesting works in there and something I never expected to see whilst in Kentucky! Take a trip if you are in town as it is in stark contrast to everything else.
Great family activity
Great place to walk around. Fun interactive exhibit downstairs.
A wonderful place to go.
A world-class art museum not to miss! Highly recommended!
Get a membership. It costs very little with a big return on your investment. Art, yes, but also events and programming, lectures, music, film screenings and more. This museum is on par with the great metropolitan art museums of the world.
This is a cool museum. Also has a small but neat cafe.
This is definitely a gem in Louisville...truly loved the collection...
Loved this museum! The free tour was great. Docent very knowledgeable!
Beautiful art, I'm not usually into art like that BUT it was all so interesting and easy to gst involved in what was going on. What's this? That's cool, wow, how did they..? Alot of questions and amazement!
It was a breeze to get there and the parking lot wasnt as bad as some i've dealt with in lousiville. Overall the experience was amazing, i cant speak for the value of admission because we were lucky enough to go on a day that was free admission. It is a beautiful building and worth the drive across the bridge from Indiana.
The Van Gogh presentation (Loving Vincent) was awe inspiring. I hope the Speed Museum brings it back a second time.
We were there to enjoy the performance of Kentucky Salsa All Star Band, the concert was great but the museum floor was very hard for dance. The drinks very expensive ($10) and one of the waitress was she was picking up the glasses with the drinks still unfinished. After we paid $ 10 USA for the drinks we felt bad to see that they were removed from the table completely full. Was it an extraterm for people to consume more drinks and get more profits? An unpleasant experience.
I love how they showcase current artists!!!
In addition to the high quality and diverse temporary exhibits, the permanent art is extensive and well-displayed. Having Wiltshire Pantry provide food service at a lovely indoor/outdoor cafe space is a bonus. The biggest attraction for me, though, is the arthouse Speed Cinema. Big auditorium, excellent sound system, dedicated projectionist and outstanding film curator in Dean Otto, who brought his expertise from similar post at the Walket in Minneapolis to Louisville. Photos posted are from the July After Hours gallery talk on the Hunter Thompson exhibit. The panel included Stephen George, left, of Louisville Public Media, Hunter's son Juan, and local poet/writing professor Ron Whitehead, right. That's Ron again with the frame.
The new addition has made a good museum great. This collection is an assortment of artistic jewels, now with enough space to give them context and breathing room. The addition also affords space for special exhibits. The recent Picasso to Pollock was a delight. There's enough here to spend the day, but even if you only have an hour between meetings, you will find inspiration, beauty, and artistic range for every taste.
We came here on a field trip for my son's 1st grade class. The employees were all super friendly and helpful, our docent was fantastic. We enjoyed it so much we came back and brought the rest of the family 3 days later!
Don't miss this museum. While they have a surprising collection of paintings from centuries past, it's the modern exhibits that slowed us down for a double take. By the way there little food service was great too.
Very interesting place. Will have to visit again.
Really enjoyed the new layout. Glad there were still recognizable parts of the old place.
The Speed is one of my favorite art venues in Kentucky. I went on Sunday -- it's usually free all day except for the special exhibitions -- specifically to see Breaking the Mold: Investigating Gender. I was also happy to find the Picasso to Pollock exhibition up at the same time. Both excellent shows, well curated, with a nice range of different media and scaled pieces. Well worth the visit!
Sharon and Mack Cox personally led a private tour of their cloxks on loan to The Speed. The Wilshire Cafe has fresh, tasty ingredients prepared in clever ways.
Beautiful and clean. Chairs and benches available through out.
This was a great stop on our trip! Wonderful exhibits and was it had free admission on Sunday. I would definitely recommend stopping if you're in the area. You do pay for parking in the garage.
We had a great experience on a Sunday afternoon, the new space is gorgeous!
Great place to learn about history of art.. Today got to listen to some great folk music :) Love the exhibits each time I go! Best thing is on Sunday's it's free!!!
This is not an encyclopedic museum, but the staff here certainly knows how to make the most of a not-so-extensive collection (relatively speaking). The architecture is visually pleasing and the exhibition spaces are spacious. Signage is clear and the navigation between galleries is a breeze. Interpretive labels obviously receive a lot of curatorial attention: not only do almost all objects on display come with their own labels, but each of them has a small topic of its own. Together, these elements constitute a pleasant visiting experience that makes the admission fee more than justified. Like what is stated on the Museum's website: whether you are "an art aficionado or don't know a Dali from a Degas," this is a great place for you to spend a few quality hours.
Amazing experience. You could get lost in here with the amount of exhibits. I mean, I did get lost. But they provide you with a map at the beginning to help you get unlost since it's so big. Must check out.
what are the most unique and different museums I've ever been to. I love things like this, brings a new edition about to a day out with the friends
Outstanding! Thank you to the Brown Family for their stewardship.
I picked up a 'carry chair' in the lower level KY gallery and found it helpful. Neither of today's special exhibits meant a thing to me. Cafe very satisfactory.
Dean is doing a fantastic job with getting 4k restored films in the cinema. I try to see them all! Latest was Yellow Submarine. I also like hearing about how the movie was restored and all the background info. Check it out!
Very interesting stuff if into sightseeing art and learning. Sundays are always free--including their films. Always a relaxing and enjoyable experience!
What a beautiful venue!!!! Parking right next door is very convenient!!
The Speed Art Museum was much larger than I expected and very well curated. Some rooms are organized by eras or locale of the artist and others into styles. I discovered a new favourite piece, Funeral for a Mummy. We originally went to pass the time before another scheduled event and ended up staying for 3 hours because of the large variety and selection of pieces.
Great Hunter Thompson exhibit
The gift shop is amazing and staff is great.
Great museum, and the kid-friendly basement (Art Sparks) is a lot of fun for the family, as well.
Wonderful art museum! It has something for everyone. It even has a learning and hands on area for kids. My family and I will definitely visit again.
Love the Speed! And free admission on Sundays is fantastic for my bank account!
Friendly staff, great exhibits!
Tons of fun for my kids ❣
Great staff n collection
I took one of their Back to Basics classes today and it was a lot of fun. Although they laughed when I suggested that they put the print I had made in the class up next to the Pollock prints as if they thought I was joking. Well, joke's on them because I submitted that picture to Google for the Speed so people will see it and think that's the kind of amazing art work the Speed houses! Then they'll go and be like, "What is all this? Who is this Picasso guy? Where's the amazing print of the unicorn, Lock Ness monster, and UFO? That's what the people REALLY want to see!" Ah, wait, the picture has to be APPROVED even for a Google places picture?! Well, never mind then, probably.
It’s always amazing. Whether you’re just there to see the main exhibit, or looking at a new or traveling exhibit, or going to the kids area with your children, Speed Art Museum is always a good experience. The food is tasty. Chocolate chip cookies especially;) all together an amazing and beautiful experience every time I go.
Saw the Aretha Franklin movie. Exciting and moving
My absolute favorite place. I always wanted to sleep in the Elizabethan room. The Speed is haunted,& I don't know if I can get gluten free in the restaurant. Well worth a visit. Very highly recommended.
I felt like I was in the film. Phenomenal - Areatha Franklin *Amazing Grace is a must see
Wow they have changed their building and it's fantastic for a college owned art museum! I'm highly impressed with their offerings for summer camps for kids. Highly impressed also with the renovated building and extreme friendly staff. They have some gorgeous pieces that should not be missed! Their cafe is delicious. It's tranquil, sophisticated and inspirational.
Love the Speed. I go there to be amazed.
Fascinating museum worthy of several visits. Extremely knowledgeable fine art curators. Very open and spacious new addition. Would highly recommend this museum for everyone.
Great! Amazing Grace is a wonderful movie.
Such a wonderful place
Always good exhibits and the Cafe was great!
We loved the experience!
The Speed always has something for us. Their recent modern art exhibit was fascinating. The staff is easy to talk to and the price is right. Highly recommended.
Very nice, too close not to visit more often.
Great cinema. Speed After Dark is the best time to go. Great food and performances, plus you can tour an exhibit or two.
Love the different levels and exhibits. There's something for everyone to love.
Beautiful clean layout. Friendly discreet staff. I loved the modern art exhibit and the flemish and danish collections were nice.
It's in my hometown, but it's still awesome. And home to the Speed Cinema, which is also awesome if you like Tarkovsky and other amazing filmmakers. The museum collection and changing exhibitions are good too. Sometimes it's fun to go to 21c but without the context of the Speed's diverse collection, 21c would get boring awfully quick. We have so many great things in Louisville!
Such a beautiful place. I just love coming here.
Gorgeous venue for a recent wedding that I attended. HIGHLY recommended.
Amazing staff! Delicious ART!
Awesome Art Museum and watched Aretha Amazing Grace at Cinema there. Loved it
The speed art museum is a wonderful place to soak up some local history world history and really see some architectural an artistic beauty. This is a first class facility.
Speed really understands community. They really make art attainable for anyone of any age or wealth. It's not just for old rich people. Speed is for all.
I went here on a date and it ended up being a great time. You can tell they are very serious about the building and art integrity and everything is super clean. It took us about 3 hours to get through and see everything. If there's one thing I would improve, I'd like for there to be more modern work because while there was some, there wasn't a ton. I also wished that there were more large sculptures. There were a few, but I love big pieces of art like that. Regardless, it's a beautiful place and a great way to spend an afternoon. PS- the parking garage cost us $10 if you wanted to know rates
The Gonzo! Exhibit was very entertaining and we appreciated there notice at the beginning of the exhibit that warned of adult content (imagery and language). While we were there, we hit up the Ebony G. Patterson exhibition (which was gorgeous and thoughtful) and everytime we asked employees for directions they were very specific and easy to follow. We had a great time!
Sundays through March 2021 are free of charge. Permanent exhibits are wonderful, loved the Kentucky Room with furniture, folk art, local artists and such. The special exhibit of Ebony G. Patterson is breath taking and emotionally moving. I also loved Gonzo, An Illustrated Guide to Hunter S Thompson and his relationships with Steadman and Benton was awesome for mature audiences. I had forgotten he was from Kentucky.
Loved our visit to the museum, exquisite architecture. Great exhibition. Take time to spend time with your kids in the interactive area and make some art. The gift shop was super fun and great prices. Restaurant was closed super early.
The Speed Art Museum has a really nice collection for a city the size of Louisville. It is actually on the University of Louisville Campus. They had several special exhibits when we visited today, including a Hunter S. Thompson "Gonzo" exhibit. Sunday admission was free, and the facility was not crowded at all. We will visit again!
Awesome place to have a conversation theme and to share ideas. It is defiantly recommended to come with friends and family.
A true gift. After Hours Friday is wonderful.
Cousin needed to get class work from here.
Great visual arts exhibitions, sculptures, children's area, dining, events, films.
One of the most complete art museums I've ever been to. Something for every age and every type of art enthusiast.
Great place to visit and enjoy
The museum is small but choice. The works are well displayed but the best thing about this gem is the quality of the commentary cards. They are definitely worth reading. I've been to the Speed Museum many times and I could spend hours and hours there. They have so many beautiful things to see and such a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. No pressure to 'move along' or 'move so someone else can see' - just all the time in the world to enjoy and appreciate the culture of what you're seeing. It's a must go to location.
I couldn't see everything there was so much to find, the employees were helpful and the exhibits amazing. I will go again.
Very beautiful place and very welcoming of all types of people. They also have seats all over for people that cant walk very far. Also have a little cafe and shop to buy items.
First visit; very engaging children's activity area. Sold reasonable priced snacks and drinks; didnt have much time in museum with 3 and 5 year old
Bsmith through a upscale all white event.. it was very nice
Amazing. So many beautiful pieces. Also free on Sundays!
Beautiful and informative, my children loved it!
I love visiting this incredible museum, looking at a few of my old favorites as well as finding something new to enjoy every trip.
Several rooms of wonderful art can be found here. They also have excellent summer programs for children. There are dining options available as well as the occasional nighttime programs that are not to be missed!
Lovely visit. Would have been nice had the upper levels been open but we can always visit again. We did get to see the Grandfather Clock exhibit before it was closed.
Wonderful venue many good works of art. Particularly love the children's section.
Had a great time at the fund raiser.
The kids enjoyed the Art Spark section and we walked through the exhibits. I really enjoy our cultural pass this year.
Place looks great. First visit since the remodel. Great exhibits and Wiltshire Pantry at the Cafe is VERY good.
One of the greatest exhibits at Louisville. Always free to students! Lovely staff.
This museum displays a little of everything. It is worth your time. It also serves as a venue for events and is absolutely beautiful.
Really amazing place to get lost in for a few hours! Lots of beautiful art and some science stuff thrown in too. Currently it's free on sundays until March 2021!
A lovely and very lively and engaging space.
Amazing museum with a great atmosphere and an amazing collection. Exhibits are top notch. This is truly a gem of Louisville.
Always enjoy my visits to the Speed. Between the exhibits, the Friday night events (food, music etc) and the cinema, you have a complete night out at one location. Check it out.
First visit since reopening. Wow! Hope to go more often.
Beautiful space. I've had the opportunity to perform in this venue twice working with The Company Band! The newly renovated museum is really nice. I look forward to visiting again soon.
Awesome visit! A must visit in Louisville KY.
Loved it, especially the artist work being displayed.
I was glad they had the movie I wanted to see. It was not at any of the regular theatres. The theatre was nice and the museum was beautiful. Tickets were not very expensive. The venue was nice. I just wish the people were a little more polite. I went to the gift shop after the movie and I asked the lady if there was a cover charge for the museum. Her response was literally, "We're closing in 10 minutes" and then she mumbled on about the rates on the different days. I honestly couldn't understand what she said about the prices. I replied, " I just wondered because no one stopped me at the door." I really wanted to know how much it cost to get in but all this lady wanted to tell me is that they were closing.... But at least there were some nice people working there.
Free on Sundays, nice collection, interesting special exhibits - tall clocks
Best fine art exbits ever!all expertly currated my Miranda Lash, Curator. And what an excellent education program for regional school teachers as well. Truly outstanding! The redo of the building is miraculous and makes this art museum a must see experience for everyone.
The kids have fun. I loved the flower exhibit
Love to visit every time I’m in town. First rate museum with fantastic artwork.
Nice exhibit, however eat before you arrive. The cafe is VERY expensive and only has a few items. It was $9 for a tiny grilled cheese sandwich!
Speed after hours is fun!
Love the speed! It is a nice place to spend an afternoon with or without someone to with.
I have enjoyed the Speed Art Museum for over thirty five years. I have enjoyed classes, tours, dinners, exhibits and volunteering in the gift shop. Since they remodeled, I have visited the museum but not been as active as I have been in the past. The remodeled museum is gorgeous and was well worth the wait.
