REVIEWS OF Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site IN Kentucky

I’ve visited dozens of battlefield parks and Perryville ranks as one of my favorites to date. Friendly staff, great paths, solid interpretative signs and most of all a battlefield where you could visualize the action. Worth the drive to get to the site.

Love this place and its heritage and history. All those looking to visit will find a rich experience throughout the entire area and region.

If you enjoy your Civil War history this place is a little gem to check out. I have visited close to Perryville several times a year for 20 years and never knew this was here. Great little museum and knowledgeable employees. A nice little 1 mile walking tour really tops it off. Well worth the trip!

Cathi La Sota

Worth the stop if you're in the area. Small museum includes a video on the battle. Walking and driving options.

Phil Kane

Historic state park with miles of interpretive and nature trails. Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean restrooms. Many sections of the park are being restored to how it would've looked in 1862 with native plants and wildlife.

Seems like every time I go something else is removed. Used to be a ton of playground equipment. The fields are never cut anymore

My name is Rick Bradley, I am a retired/disabled Army veteran and former Sergeant of the 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment. I am also, the great, great grandson of Sgt Brison Shephard, who served with the 13th Kentucky Regiment, before his capture at Gladsville, VA along with an additional 100 plus from his regiment. Brison, spent the remainder of the civil war in three different Union prisoner of war camp's ie...Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio, Camp Douglas, ILL and Fort Point Maryland and later released under the prisoner of war program where he returned to Good low Kentucky with his family to include his 12 children. This is a terrific website and I thank the good people of Kentucky for maintaining this place of honor for our children and grandchildren to visit and remember the sacrifices made by some who gave all.

Suzanne Smith

A great battlefield preservation effort is underway here. In the last decade numerous improvements have been underway to expand the site and reclaim much of the core battlefield. The rolling hills offer a great vista of the historic area.

Steve Eccleston

Enjoyed the walking trails to see each of the sites of the battle. While they do have a map for driving, you will need to walk to see everything. The staff was very knowledgeable and were a pleasure to talk to.

A solemn space to contemplate the ultimate sacrifice of thousands during the civil war. The open spaces are beautiful and well kept. I've come twice and I'm hoping to return soon.

You're not coming here on accident, so this is meant for students of history. The museum and film is great, and shouldn't be missed. The area probably looks very much like it did in the Civil War. I enjoyed the self guided driving tour, and the rolling hills of Kentucky.

This is a must visit for the Civil War enthusiast. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, and the museum, though small, is one of the most interesting and well put together I've had the pleasure of visiting. The battlefield itself is very moving to walk. Signs help give you a better understanding of the events that took place in that area.

Good

Susan Masters

Lots to see!

Jeff Moran

When you first arrive, you might believe what a wasted trip because it seems so small. You will change your mind once visit the museum. The person at the front desk will start you with a map showing how large the park is. Take time to exit the car and explore some or all the marked trails. I would suggest downloading the Perry Battlefield app from the Google or Apple stores for bonus information.

Jonathan Chiam

Donald Roach

Love it, cause i love history

Matt Arnold

Great park, although I wish it was a national park site.

Carolyn Koch

Kacky64

It used to be a great place. I still love it there. I only have 3 stars because they have removed any thing to do with the Confederate flag. I think it is wrong considering how many Confederate soldiers are buried there.

Michael Toth

Really nice park to walk through. Small but beautiful, peaceful. Park hours are posted but the small/ museum hours are different. See photo. Staff is extremely nice.

Debbie Stewart

Well preserved! Unchanged over the years.

K Kates

Great place to visit, especially during the Civil War Reenactment in October.

Alice Davis

Great hiking and birding, but could use better map of trails.

Erika Larson

The battlefield includes plenty of signs and information describing how the battle evolved. Visitors can either drive or walk to learn about this chapter in Kentucky's history. There is also a museum with additional information about Perryville and the Civil War in general. It is a little out of the way but worth the time if you plan a visit to central Kentucky.

Derek Sharp

A beautiful historical site. The paths are all beautiful in their own right. The visitors center is a but small, yet, they have plant of information to pass on.

Chris Voss

Natashia Studer

Nice clean quiet place to go and not far off highway...

Kevin Kirkland

Ethereal. Singularly beautiful and tranquil. Impeccably maintained and interpreted and the vast expansion of historically significant park land has resulted in one of the premier Civil War sites in the country. The essence of what transpired here is palpable. Perryville Battlefield is a Kentucky gem and National treasure. One of my favourite places.

Jennifer Goldfarb

Danielle Pruitt

Mark Dandeneau

Great little park. They have a nice swing set (I had a great time on it). Also a large covered picnic area. The outside water spigots were locked, but the sinks worked in the clean bathrooms. I haven't been in the museum yet, but will update the post when I do. A great place for a large gathering, or a great stop over point to stretch your legs if you are traveling through. And of course it is an important historical site. The park is open until dark at which time they lock the gate. Museum closes earlier.

Michael Koznarsky

This battlefield is a gem! While small, the museum is excellent and worth the cost of admission. The video explains not only the battle but the strategic situation in 1862. The path around the battlefield helps tourists follow the course of the battle. The battlefield is incredible well maintained and very complete, better than some more well know battlefields. This is a "cannot miss" battlefield for those interested in the Civil War. I was truly impressed and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Jennifer Kirkland

Amazingly well-preserved. There is so much to see here, tons of history. Great picnic spot, as well, with a playground for the kiddos. The Civil War Museum is a must-see.

One of the best preserved battlefields in the country. Make a day of it. Also the volunteer-historians there are top notch. Make it a low-key, picnic and walk day. Don't rush.
