This Museum is classified in the category of Historical landmark.
It was beautiful. Enjoyed the walking tour of the house. 80 percent of all items in the house was from that time period. Nice walk around the estate. You should go. I got some nice souvenirs for family and one for myself. Well worth getting off the parkway. Just to move around and see something new. Only one mile out of the way.
Historical home... love seeing the antiques and the grounds. Golfing for those interested, and an area with lots of picnic tables and a pavilion and a playground for the little ones. The old house is one of my childhood memories.
My girlfriend and I went so she could see the Budweiser Clydesdale team that was visiting the park. Beautiful grounds with adequate parking. We didn't allow enough time to tour the home, but will do so soon. I have toured a few times in the past, but she never has.
Took our grandchildren (ages 9 & 13) to tour here and the grounds. Our tour guide (Abby?) was very knowledgeable and pleasant to listen to. Rich history about this place, well worth the time and the price of admission is reasonable.
Took the Shadows of Federal Hill tour and then the hayride. It was fun. The actors and actresses inside my Old Kentucky Home were excellent and it was informative and interesting.
The Stephen Foster story was an amazing play, celebrating the 60th year of performing. If you love American music and history, I would highly recommend attending. Also touring the property, the federal hill plantation and walking the grounds down the hill to one of the old cabins still standing
Nice view around
Home has many original furniture pieces. Great tour.
Truly appreciate the life they give the story.
Our tour guide was very informative and a pleasing personality
Wonderful little campground very close to historic downtown Bardstown. There is a main area for RVs and tents, and also a "primitive" area for tents, with no water or electricity. Fun little playground for kids. Bathrooms were clean - two showers in the men's room. Bathroom was never crowded. I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff was, especially Ashley. Thank you!
Just ok
Love. It
Always love the tours here! Beautiful place, everyone is nice & friendly!
Went during Halloween season and got the death and mourning version of the tour! So interesting and fun! Will have to go back for the next spin they put on it!
Beautiful place for a wedding
Fabulous visit! Our tour guides were great. Very interesting.
So lovely and interesting.
A delightful tour. Guides are extremely knowledgeable and entertaining.
Great place greeted at front door with singing guide followed by a great tour
Always a good show
Beautiful place to camp, RV, and golf. The facilities are clean and accommodating. The staff are all friendly and helpful. My family spent a couple of weeks here in the primitive camping area and really enjoyed ourselfs. The only problem we had was the ants were a bit of a pest but as long as you are smart about storing your food it is manageable.
It's over priced for a short tour around a house
The mansion tour guide was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. My 8 year old loved it all because she loves history.
Great history
Very nice place to stop in to spend a little time.
Great place,,, right next to a golf course if you play
Good tour of 2 story home with renovation to period wallpaper and carpeting. The family portraits and furniture with accessories is lovely. Sweet young ladies give the Tour and answer all questions, Beautiful grounds to walk around- limited gardens.
Stephen Foster Story is wonderful, great performance!
I understand the out door theater is getting a much needed renovation. It needs it
Love the history of the home. Amazing visit, and tour.
Love going here
We attended the Shadows of Federal Hill. It was fun. Would like to go back in the daytime to better see the grounds.
Tall trees provide nice shade on warm days and lend a nice ambiance but the campground is tight for maneuvering and many of the sites are wildly off-level. Most sites will require you to unhitch if you have a medium-sized trailer or larger, though there seem to be a few longer sites. Power and water posts are FAR from the sites, bring your extension cords. Those necessary extension cords will conspire with the low voltage on warm days if the campground is full, we ran the water heater on propane to keep the voltage from dipping too low to safely run the AC in the afternoon.
Such a great piece of American history and a testament to life in the Kentucky world. Singing guides and well preserved artifacts with a very human story make for a fun and entertaining experience.
Amazing tour, and amazing prices. Only $12 per adult and less for kids and seniors. Great gift shop, and beautiful grounds. Even available for events and business meetings. Will return with our children someday.
This was a very informative and intriguing tour of the family, home, and property presented by characters in time costume. The property is very well maintained along with the attached campground, golf course, and amphitheater. This was a great area to set up our home base for our weekend family getaway when visiting nearby Hodgenville, KY (Lincoln's birthplace). We will definitely be staying at the campground when we come back to explore much more in the area.
Campground is a little small and sites are fairly close together. Lots of trees, paved spots. Clean enough bathhouse.
Very informative and educational. The tour guide even sang to us. I don't remember his name but he had a curly mustache and always had a smile on his face. I would definitely go back there again.
Very interesting tour, small grounds, excellent docent, but very disappointing that no photos are allowed inside the house.
My fiance and I are getting married here! And we love the location and the story behind the house. As our wedding theme is our old Kentucky home and the location is close to Louisville where I'm from. It's a very cute town surrounding the venue. I'm excited to get married there!
The Shadows tour was wonderful, Steve Foster players were excellent. Cant wait to go back
To tour the grounds is free (highly recommend) to tour the house costs money. It is a similar situation to Colonial Williamsburg, if anyone is familiar with that. As a final note, plenty of Poke stops and Gyms.
Saw Joseph and Technicolor dream coat
Loved it. Guide answered all our questions.
Beautiful historic place, went with a lover who left me it's one of those bitter sweet memories.
I have lived in Kentucky my entire life, and I visited here as a youth and had fond memories of that visit. But I took my wife here for the first time a few weeks ago and the disappointment I have for this place is great. It seems as though they are trying to be an upscale place. This is not what this place is. Please don't forget the heritage of this place. Keep it real.
Anyone in Kentucky should really take the trip home, to My Old Kentucky Home. Located at Bardstown right off the Bluegrass Parkway about 1 hour west of Lexington this place ia beautiful even in the winter. Will post a spring or summer picture in the near future. Admission to just walk the grounds without a tour is a extremely modest $4 and to get a guided tour in the home you're looking at $14. Senior and children discounts are available. Plenty of parking and a extremely friendly staff and ranger on duty.
Very beautiful place
Nice place
I love this place! The historic home is simply beautiful both inside and out. The guides are dressed in period costumes and are very knowledgeable about the history of the place. I highly recommend this place on any visit to Bardstown.
What an iconic piece of history representing Kentucky during some of the most fascinating time periods in American history. For history fanatics such as myself, the tour through the mansion will give you chills. So much rich history and amazing stories in each room. The tour guides are scripted to say what they need to say, but I found that if you can think of some random questions about small details in a room, they'll often have an incredible story to explain whatever it is you're asking. Great times here.
Staff is not helpful and has no regard for closing the facility on a day that a wedding is being held there. Extremely frustrating capturing photos and having to wait for random park visitors to slowly meander through the background of my clients images. I either had to wait until they we're clear of my shots or I will have to edit these folks out of images. Not at all impressed.
Went to a concert there. Great time. Great venue to see the plays and concerts
It's pretty
Dusappointed that this wasn't Stephen Foster's, but his cousin's.
This was awesome! My daughters loved it and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and kind. Would highly recommend!
We went tonight for "An Old Kentucky Christmas Carol Tour" and it was a Great night out with our granddaughter! Great memories celebrating Christmas together!
Very enjoyable tour. Loved it. Thank you so much
Great tour. Our guide was terrific. Even sang a little.
Beautiful architecture and gardens. Wonderful glimpse into a part of Kentucky history. Staff are excellent and very helpful.
We thoroughly enjoyed the mansion tour. Tour guides are very knowledgeable!
Excellent storyteller. Very interesting. If you are in the area it's a " must-do"!. Reasonably priced as well.
The home has an interesting store and history. A good place to visit when in Bardstown.
Interesting, historical home!
Great Tour! Loved the the hoop skirted guide. she actually sang My Old Kentucky Home before the Tour started. It was beautiful.
I love that its family (kid) friendly.brought my nieces and nephew (their first time) and they loved it. They are already wanting to come back!
Convenient to town. Sites small and verrry close together. Quiet. Bath rooms, including showers and toilet stalls are not at all compliant with ADA standards which has been the law since the mid-70's. If you have a disability that includes mobility devices, you are out of luck unless your rig is self-contained.
Love the history. I'm helping rewire the new place.
Love the history. A must if you've never been or just haven't been in a while.
Wonderful experience loved the history The guide's were wonderful they sang and told the story of the people who lived there. The guide's took me back to that time
The staff here are very pleasant and quite inviting! The tour is very intriguing. I love the history. We did the regular tour and also the Shadows tour. The Shadows tour brought the characters and stories to life!
An interesting story of the Rowan family - cousins to Stephen Foster. Beautiful home.
This place is something someone should do before they die!
Staff is very knowledgeable!!! And very friendly!
Staff is wonderful, home and garden is gorgeous, and historical information makes it our favorite destination. It has become our Christmas tradition since moving to KY, but love it all year long!
The history of the families who lived here was amazing to learn!
Show was very well done. Loaded with talented singers.
Very interesting tour and gift shop. We can't wait to bring our kids back.
If you're in the area, you must stop by and tour the house.
Learned a lot and enjoyed family time.
Both tour guides were great. Beautiful home and a great story. No inside photography though.
The renovations look great and the workers are as friendly as they have always been.
Precious piece of history.
Loved Stephen Fosten Story! Great performance and location!
Super cool. Went for the Shadows of Federal Hill tour. The actors were stunning.
Went to see a show, Joseph & the amazing Technicolor dreamcoat, and everything was excellent! From the staff, to the concessions, to the amphitheatre, to the production!!
We paid homage to Federal Hill a few years back. It is a lovely home with a great history. Worth a look if you enjoy house museums.
This was beautiful!!! Loved it. Very interesting and well worth it!! Loved the history of the mansion and the story!!! Beautiful!!!
The tours are fantastic!
My wife and I were in Kentucky for her niece and nephews 25th anniversary. While there we decided to do a little site seeing. We were very pleased with our experience at "My Old Kentucky Home". The tour guides were dressed in period appropriate outfits and were quite knowledgeable on the history of the plantation and the 3 generations that lived there. I would have rated it 5 stars but I have a back injury and the walking alone with everything else I did that day had me in misery so my experience wasn't quite what it could have been.
Beautiful park environment! The house and the cabin are the perfect representation of Ky. Hosts a nice gift shop and carriage, up on entering the building.
Nice old home.
We were here before, but online, it's impossible to tell if there are obstacles (trees) that could prevent you from getting into your site. Such was the case for the holiday weekend. Our frustration level was soaring. We tried and tried, but it was impossible. Fortunately the attendant on duty (Lindsey) was able to relocate us for which we are grateful. Many rv'ers had the same problem. More accurate site photos would help. The Bardstown area is beautiful, so that makes this park perfect, but the obstacles could make for a horrible experience. After relocating us, we found we were in the best site for us. Thank you Lindsey and her boss.
Good place to visit if your wanting to unwind but its a bit tacky
The concert was outstanding. I had a great time
Lovely place with nice primitive camping spots. If you like to golf, this is the place to go.
Went there on August 14th my 36th wedding Anniversary , i had gone there approx. 44 years earlier always wanted to go back, so my husband took me. The house is so beautiful, the tour guides and park ranger were great very informative . Only complaint wish could of taken pictures inside the house, but rules say no , but its is so beautiful. Well worth my trip. THANK YOU!!!
Great mesuem. There were a lot of original pieces of furniture there. Great costume pieces.
Very good informative tour, great period furniture, and the house has AC.
It-was-clean-&-beautiful.
Wonderful experience. Loved the history!
Beautiful place to visit
Nice place.
Beautiful home, well kept with a fantastic history. Great tour.
Was there for a graduation Very nice.
Very pretty. Good shade on a hot day. Friendly folks.
Beautiful place to visit. Lots of history
Wonderful family friendly place! Very interesting history!
Very awesome show, well worth it!!!
My family enjoyed the Halloween tour. We will be back!
Very enjoyable evening
Interesting to see and learn about the house and the family that lived there. Disappointed you were not allowed to take pictures. Guides were knowledgeable. Sad to see it was really built on backs of slavery and all that ugliness. Glad that ended. Definitely worth a visit.
Remarkably knowledgeable tour guide. Highly recommended.
I’ve been here twice now, with two different guides, and both experiences were excellent. The guides are well-informed and both sang beautiful renditions of My Old Kentucky Home, Goodnight. If you like local history, this is a tour you don’t want to miss. Cost is $14/person.
Nice atmosphere and good service.
That was the best presentation at a museum that I have ever been to. I really enjoyed them acting out the story withsong
Great. Need a better set up to watch the movie. It was resting but we couldn't see it. Loved the singing guides.
Tee boxes & greens were very dry due to lack of rain & high temps. A bit high on price for a state park but still like playing there .
Love their amphitheatre
I played the golf course at My Old Kentucky Home. Nice place to PLAY. Well taken care of and nice people work there.
went to see Joseph and His Technicolor Dreamcoat. It was good entertainment. Lively show with various music styles.
Went to the "Weep No More" tour. It was very informative and well worth the visit.
Very much enjoyed this tour! Our guides were a lot of fun. Just the right amount of informal and appropriately historical.
We did not get to tje house early enough to take a tour but we walked around the grounds and it is an interesting place.
If you love history and especially Kentucky then you have to visit
A fantastic peice of history.
We were under the impression that the home was the home of Stephen Foster, but it was his cousin's house. The home is believed to be inspiration for the song. Nevertheless, the home is significant in several respects to Kentuckian and American history. The tour guide did a wonderful job explaining the mansion, the events of the time, and the relationships between the Rowan family's relevance to Kentucky history.
Nice visit. More interesting than expected
A very good stop and informative tour. Would recommend
Did a wedding here. It's a beautiful venue.
The guides were very knowledgable and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed my tour
Nice, clean and cozy place. The staff were great and helpful. Most of the sites have beautiful tall trees with lots of cover. The town is very close with very decent offerings.
Very nice! Very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Considering drought and heavy use course is holding up pretty good. Nice little pro shop, rates are ok but can find deals on Golf Now. Hydrate, it's cooking out there, lucky for you plenty of shade available.
It was actually educational. Very fun time at the ghost walk.
Neat place. Very historic
Went for a wedding. Beautiful place!
The mansion and grounds are lovely. Bardstown is a charming and historic little town.
Great place for weddings
Really enjoyed our visit, learned a lot of history about My Old Kentucky Home, if you haven't been there you need to visit
They have a free event for the community. It was great!
Beautiful grounds! Short tour.
The actual house and visitor center are worth a visit if you are in the area.
Great historic landmark in Ky.
What a wonderful show! The costumes are beautiful and the singing is superb.
Very interesting and beautiful place to visit. Recommend taking house tour the two woman doing the tour are awesome and know the house history.
Sites are narrow and blocked w/ many trees so very cramped to back in. We couldn't get on our site so after more than an hour on phone we were allowed to park on over flow site. Small bare bones playground.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR BABIES! I was so excited to tour My Old Kentucky Home, and in fact went out of my way to schedule a visit while going on a family trip with my mother, husband, and 7 month old son. My son was being worn in a carrier, and is an excitable and vocal baby, who "sang" along with the guide when she sang, and jabbered. He was not crying, was not throwing a fit, but happy to be there. We made it through the entry hall and library, and as we were passing into the front parlor, the tour guide said to me, "He's trying to take my job." I laughed and apologized, and to my surprise she said, "Would you be more comfortable taking him outside? I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but they'll refund your money." I was stunned, humiliated, and horrified, and quietly left. I was refunded my money, but I will NEVER go back, and I have never been treated so poorly. My husband is a state employee, we pay our taxes, and love visiting state parks- if babies aren't welcome, it should be posted. If you have children, leave them at home, or plan to go somewhere else! If possible, I would leave ZERO stars.
Even our young nephews found the outing very interesting. Docent was exceptional.
Pretty location and house, but they don't allow you to take pictures of anything (despite the fact it looks exactly like every other federal mansion of that era), and their "period correct" wallpapers are a blasphemy against God. I understand that the original wallpaper *may* have been horrible, but what they had is unknown. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.
The history, architecture and beauty of this place is truly amazing. If youre a proud Kentuckian like I am then this is the place you need to visit! The staff are all so friendly and helpful. It's so clean and I love Bardstown.
If you are within 100 miles of this beautiful home you must stop in! The guided tours are unique and informative, with very knowledgeable guides. Each of them will sing My Old Kentucky Home and bring a tear your to your eye.
Beautiful home, wonderful tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable. The Christmas decorations were beautiful and historical. Highly recommend.
Tour 10/10 reccomend. Beautiful place to take pictures
If you like history the tour is nice. Offer a Sr duscount.
Kit was exceptional. Very interesting and engaging
