This Museum is included in the category of Rail museum.
Not too bad of a little museum. It seems to be more geared to riding the train. There is a small museum with a large model train. The best part, excluding the train ride, is the train yard that comes with the museum. You can only view a few trains, but it gets the kids up pretty close to those being worked on. There was a nonprofit there with horse for kids to ride, so it turned out better than we expected.
Take a ride on this train and feel like you are back in history. I remember many train rides with my family to visit my Grandparents. I felt like royalty when I rode the train, everyone dressed up and was always on their best behavior. It has changed a little since then, but I just kept remembering the past and it was a beautiful ride. Thank you so much
Santa Express was fun but not really for toddlers, not sure we'll be back.
I normally love rail museums. This one, however, it just not worth your time. For $5 I paid to see a small room with a few tools and lanterns and a model train display that wasn't operational. But wait! There's more! It had a couple of dozen rust bucket engines and cars lined up outside. None of the engines or cars was open for viewing and there was only a short walking path to allow you to see maybe 4 cars from the outside. Otherwise that's it. I do understand they offer some short train rides. I didn't take a ride. That might have been a lot more fun. But the museum itself was pathetic. Don't waste your time here unless you just want to ride the train.
Nothing else to say but awesome!!
Did the Polar Express ride with family. It was a little simple, but magical enough for the kids to make it worth it.
Very friendly employees
Very nice, should have some displays along the tracks, maybe so.e animated animals or displays dealing with xmas self and such. To keep the children s interest.
My grandson loved riding the train and all the activities during A Day Out With Thomas!
Took a group of special needs students and they really enjoyed the trip. Loved the service and interactions with the staff.
Go at your own here cheap .the train ride is pricey
We went on one of the Christmas rides. It was north pole express. My kids are still talking about how great it is months later and beleive the train takes us to the north pole.
Not worth the money. Pathetic.
You walk in and say where are the trains! The whole place is a gift shop and a few knick knacks. All the trains are rusty and destroyed and rotting. You cannot go in the trains. There is a sign with a bunch of stuff to do here and it is all a lie. You can pay 5$ to see rusty scraps of metal. There is a barn with trains inside and they say "oh you can go up to the barn but you can't go inside they are working" on what! 10 minutes of my life I am not going to get back.
It would have been better if it hadn't downpoured on us as we had a wheelchair in our group.
Loved the train ride and looking in the museum! The model trains were great!
Informative.
We had a great time it is a do over
I'm glad I went, but without doing the train ride there just wasn't much to see or do. Definitely check the schedule and make sure you are there to do the train tour. Otherwise I wouldn't advise going.
It's pretty neat I suppose. If you like trains check this out. No whiz bang high-tech. Very simple and enjoyable. If I were in the area I'd look but would not drive specifically for this. A great side trip.
Very nice visit with the family. The huge diorama inside the station was impressive.
Really cool take the train
Very friendly staff. Could have watched their model train for hours
We went for the Easter eggspress my son had a blast
We accidentally showed up while Thomas was here, so everything was moved around. Nobodies fault really. Would definitely come back when it is nice and quiet and we can actually tour the museum.
Really cool museum. We went with our kids to a field trip. Our favorite part was the train ride, and then the work shop area where they restore the trains.
Fun time for the whole family. Recommend buying tickets online.
Pretty cool place
Stopped on a whim while traveling and never even found how to get into Museum. Saw a little shop and was given information on train excursions. Not impressed
My family and I love it!! We went for the great train robbery and we are looking forward to going back for the great pumpkin and we plan to go for the Santa express.
We Visited for a Day out With Thomas The Train, it was a bigger crowd than expected by us, i would guess between 1500-2000 people showed up during the day. Train rides departed every 40 minutes and the ride itself last for 25 minutes. Plenty of stuff to keep the kids occupied, like a petting zoo, imagination station, Sir Toppem Hat, Story time, Magic show, and even a Scavenger hunt for the kids, we planned on 2 hours and stayed for 5, food and drinks were available for a fairly cheap price, sno-cones and Hot dogs for a $1, hamburgers were $2-$2.50. Parking is scarce unless you want to pay to park. If you want free parking turn at the gas station the take the first street on the right, park near the barn beside the railroad tracks in the grassy area. Come Early stay late and use the Restrooms before boarding the train, as there are no restrooms on board. But most of the cars are Air Conditioned
Great, scenic location with alot of railroad history on display. Friendly, informative staff.
We went to the murder mystery event and had a great time.
Good place to take your kids and have a great time and ride trains
So much fun and very well worth going to see and the museum was awesome. The crew was fantastic and very interactive. Great times and alot of fun
Excellent all volunteers to run and operate this great part of history , which would lost without their respective support.
The museum was closed when we got there, but I've been there before with my son when they had Thomas the Tank Engine. It was hot then but a lot of fun.
Very cool
Would like to go and tour the museum
Very unique
This is such a great place to show kids a bit of Kentucky history in a fun way. The museum is so interesting and then to have a train ride too. It's a great family outing. The gift shop is surprisingly inexpensive. I actually do my angel tree shopping here. Parents you can't beat the Thomas the Tank Engine days or the Polar Express.
Took my 10 year old granddaughter and 3 year old grandson and they liked it. The cars are air conditioned. They got a little bored on the first part of the trip because it only goes 25 mph. They stop at a country store and you can go in to get snacks and drinks. You can take them on the train. I would probably take a drink with me at the start of the trip because my grandson got whiny for a drink. The museum is excellent! There's a really elaborate model train set up and they loved it. I will go again.
Fun trip. Reasonably priced
The train ride was very scenic and the prices for tickets were affordable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here!
Loved it
Love this place grew up with steam engine 152. Been going since it was in louisville.
We went and my kids (13, 10, 7) had a great time.
This was our second time here very nice people running the place
Day out with Thomas was fun!
Had a great time. Well worth the cost of the ticket. Would be a nice time for people of all ages.
Attended a Thomas the Train event. The staff was wonderful and really engaged with my kids. The train ride itself was a little boring but the little museum and gift shop is quite nice. My son loved the many elaborate model trains on display.
The Kentucky Railway Museum can bring you back to the glory days of railroading. With a historic fleet of diesel locomotives and a collection of displays, this place should be on your bucket list.
Went for a Day out with Thomas the Train. Well organized. Kids had so much fun! Can't wait for next year!
I was a little disappointed by the museum but enjoyed the dinner train
Love the train ride
Nice place to visit on the weekends with ur kids and grandkids.
Very good idea glad we went .We took the train robbery weekend .It was fun. Price is good & they are all volunteers donating their time all for children ...a great cause!
This place needs some attention. It was nothing more than a large model train and a bunch of old retired, rusted, rotted trains.
Great disappointment.
Amazing theatrical experience and train ride.
A must see for any history or train enthusiast
Sweet, cute little place. Stinks, could use a update.
Awesome place if your into Trains and history. We took the kids on a "Polar Express" and we all loved it. Cookies and tickets punched!!!!!
This place was awesome, they went above and beyond to answer our questions and to show us the trains. Definitely will be going back
What a wonderful adventure! All the staff are extremely friendly. We will go again!
This was a cute book, in the middle of nowhere. They had a huge train display too! Sadly, most of the trains were not running..
Very nice Railroad Museum to go to
Awesome family friendly place
My son loves a day out with thomas
We decided to step out of the norm and take a holiday excursion out of New Haven instead of grilling. We was very pleased to learn of our surroundings and enjoy the country side
This was our first visit to the Kentucky Railway Museum and we went with our schools academic team! The train ride was wonderful and the children had a great time.
Patti and I love the train robbery.
Great fun. Super friendly staff. It made for a great afternoon.
Very nice. Great tour.
The North Pole Express was really fun with a surprise visit from Santa himself. The cookies and hot chocolate were good and we even got a pin! Fun for all ages. Wear you matching PJ's.
First time on a train and it was relaxing. You don’t really go “somewhere” but down the tracks to a little town with a gas station. We enjoyed the ride very much. It was relaxing and calm and just a nice way to spend the afternoon. The cars are older and I believe have been maintained well. The staff is very courteous and clearly enjoy what they do. We also visited the museum and I’d have to say it’s much more than what I anticipated. Some may think it’s not worth the price but I think so. I’d like to go on a mystery tour sometime. That would be neat.
Great experience! Little playground and gift shop to keep little one's interest. Wasn't crowded, friendly staff, clean amenities. Recommended!
I had an absolute blast at the museum and taking a leisurely train ride with my two boys. The museum isn't really big, but it has an awesome model train set that spans the length of the large room (it's really impressive) and has lots of little artifacts from the good ole days that are interesting to learn about. The train ride itself was fantastic. The conductor was really friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The ride was leisurely and enjoyable. I had fun just gazing out the windows and moving at a slow pace. It was nice to be taken back in time. The only thing to keep in mind, and this isn't a criticism, is that there's no restrooms on board the train (ride is 1.5 hrs with a stop half way) and there's not much in terms of food and drink selection. There's nothing on the trains and there's only small selection at the museum before departure. The stop in Boston, KY does allow you to go into a convenient store so it's not like you don't have a chance to grab a snack. Again, that is in no way a complaint, just providing info for people that might assume there's food on the train itself. All in all, it was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back!
Awesome place to take the kids
Want much to it, I expected more.
My 4 year old son enjoyed the train ride and festivities included.
Especially fun when they re-enact the great train robbery
I had a blast visiting the kentucky railway museum with my kids. The trainrides and events they hold are fun and friendly for all ages. I highly suggest visiting this attraction, I am a fan of trains, however they have fun things for all to do. Be sure to check out Kentuckys WW2 train car!
The trip to see Thomas made my daughter giddy, so it was worth it in that aspect. The train station is kept well inside. The old train cars are neat for an experience to teach a little history. From a hospitality perspective, having no access to a restroom on the train is a negative resulting in a deduction of one star - having Thomas there with a single stall each male and female restroom in the station and far too long of a line and then forbidding use of the restroom on the train is a poor example of service and hospitality.
Great displays, friendly staff
Really cool old trains. Everyone volunteers to make sure you have a great time! they were all very nice.
You can't go wrong with trains. Friendly staff and well kept facilities.
Loved every second of the Polar Express event. The kids had a blast, and the photo opportunity are endless. Definitely get a group together to rent out the private car! It was so cool!
I loved it
Great
Not only is this a museum, but they offer train rides as well. If you buy train fare, the museum is free. They have a gift shop with reasonable prices and everyone there was helpful and friendly.
Was worth a diversion to ride a well kept train and see a lot of interesting stuff at the museum. Kids love it and was a comfortable place for family.
Thomas the train event wasn't really worth the price to go.
Very informative. Not really good for small children.
This was my family's first visit but I'm sure it will not be our last. The staff is so nice and polite and very helpful!!
Awesome place to go to. We are from out of town and spent most of our day here... Great to see the old engine's
This is an historic place to visit. The store has good prices and you can go for a train ride.
Awesome train ride very knowledgeable conductor
GOOD times greater place for kids
Children of all ages will love this place
lots of neat old trains and a great little scale model track inside.
Great place to visit and a nice little train ride as well
Great place for kids, Thomas the train was there!
Very pleasant ride. Not very scenic. Staff goes above & beyond. The Museum is interesting. Worth the price.
Great railway museum. A pure enjoyment for the kids
Train ride for Pumpkin Patch and Pumpkin Patch itself was a little trying for the price. People where friendly and it wasn't a complete drag.
Great place for kids and adults alike
Nice place to day trip to. We've taken the kids twice and they always find something interesting in the diarama.
If you love trains stop here
My great-grandson had a blast. The train ride lasted about 20-30 min. round trip. Very short.
The train ride was very nice, and the Easter event was exciting for the kids. The Easter bunny showed up and they loved their treats.
Great the kids loved it a great time for the whole family lots of activities for children to do train ride was short for the ticket price but it was still nice
It was a fun and relaxing day. Very nice and knowledgeable staff. A lot of history, man if those cars could talk! My 10 year old had a blast, and now wants to collect model trains.
Had a great time riding on the train. The staff and volunteers were very friendly. The history shared was good. We ride from New Haven to Boston and back. At Boston, we had a shift stop and were able to go to a country store.
Place was neat my grandson enjoyed himself. The train ride was fun. We all enjoyed ourselves.
We really enjoyed the train ride and had a blast during the "train robbery" wished we had known that the money they were "stealing" was going to a children's charity beforehand as we would have brought more cash with us. We can't wait to go back and the the mystery train ride
A lot of history
Nice outing with the family but could have been a little more exciting.
I highly recommend the museum and train ride. It was a little pricey but we received good value for our money. Both the adults and the grandchildren h a d a good time.
Awesome place.
Awesome!
I don't know nothing about Kentucky Railroad I hear people talk about it but I haven't been there and I've been in Bardstown from 19 years check it out thank you have a blessed day
Nice.
Great history of trains, loved it
A great place for railway enthusiasts young and old. I haven't gone on any train ride here, but the indoor museum section is quite cool, especially for the large HO scale model train layout. Outside, a variety of equipment is on display, the highlight being under cover with the museums engines and special passenger cars. Some equipment is unfortunately in poor shape but such is the case considering the age of it and the significant cost of repairs and repaints. If you want to see equipment get repainted, make donations! Overall, my day here was very fun and the highlight of my day passing through Kentucky
Awesome place to take your whole family
This is a great place to go. The train trip is a good experience but don't go for the scenic views as (at least in the summer) it is hard to see a lot. The engines and cars are amazing though and their history is great. Don't just go and walk, find one of the amazing volunteers and ask them about everything. You will learn so much more. When you leave give them a donation. There is so much work to be done on so much important history.
Neat museum with friendly staff. It wasn't busy and we had the whole place to ourselves for most of our visit. We also got a tour of their trains that are being worked on.
Went for a day out with Thomas. It was really fun and everyone there was friendly and helpful despite how rainy it was. Would definitely go back again! They have a collectible penny machine in the gift shop as well and those are always fun .
Disappointing for a field trip .drove almost 2 hrs to sit on a train for 30 mins eat our own lunch and then go into the museum which is one room for 10 mins.
We went during Thomas day out. We have never been before it was crowded and hot which wasn't the places fault. A couple things that is frustrating is that it cost us 100 for a 25 min train ride. 5 of us me husband and our 3 children ages 7 5 and 3. We were not directed which box to get in so we waited in line in the sun for 15 minutes, and just got onto the one closest to us. After sitting down look at our ticket and realize that we are not on the right train thanks to someone saying something about seating helped me. This train was nice it was air conditioned large windows and facing seats so our family could sit together. So we have to walk all the way to the last box car and this car was not nice it was barely air conditioned, it looked like a school bus and due to us not getting on the correct train there was not enough seats to sit together or for the kids to be able to see outside well. It was very disappointing. I said something to the person selling the tickets just to next time please direct to which box to go to so that doesn't happen to anyone else. It was difficult for bathrooms, so many people hard to do the activities for the children. The lady who did the magic show was nice and seemed to do a good job but no seating. We bought snow cones for the kids that was the best thing about the whole trip. Hope I can save someone else some money.
Great train Robery was fun and went to a great cause.
Our granddaughter loves the polar express. The folks that do this are awesome. If you havent visited, do so.
Always have a great time. My kiddo loves to come for Day Out With Thomas.
A decent, small sample of the railroad experience. Note: my review is based on a general visit with a regular train excursion. For a couple bucks more, special excursions for the young and old are planned throughout the year. Generally, kids will enjoy it, but if attention spans are short, the *regular* train excursion may seem a bit too long. If you have kids, consider visiting when train excursions geared for kids are available. I enjoyed viewing the railroad memorabilia... especially the working model train sets... very nice. The train excursions run from New Haven, KY (the museum location) to a stop at a general store in Boston, KY. In peak season, they run two trips which opens up the option to board at the general store in Boston. I boarded in Boston on my trip. Basically, everyone in my party road the *second* leg of the first excursion. We actually purchased our tickets when we arrived at the museum in New Haven. After visiting for a while, we then used those tickets to return to our parked car by catching a ride on the *first* leg of the second excursion of the day. That's how it works. Note: If you begin your visit by boarding the train in Boston: It is a small town. You will park at this small general store. Though the train tracks pass next to this store and cross the main road, the signage was very limited. I parked in the small gravel lot behind the store and for a while I wondered if I was in the right place. It turns out... I was. The old passengers cars used for the excursion are vintage... very cool... and probably enhanced my enjoyment of the ride. The route is pretty much a straight shot without curves. The countryside is pretty, but nothing more than you will see from your car on your way to this place. In short, this is a few notches better than a train ride at an amusement park, but probably several notches less than the experience of catching a ride on Amtrack out west. It's a good taste of what it was like to travel by rail... back in the day. I'm glad I visited this place. Though once is probably enough for me, I may return to try out one of the special or themed train excursions.
Not a bad visit. Swing by there if you're on your way through.
train was ok nothing extravagant. and view wasn't anything special. gift shop was over priced.
We had an amazing time on the train robbery Sunday. I am go glad me and the kids were able to experience this. This was our first time riding on a real train and we all enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this event to everyone. The tickets are a little pricey but well worth the spend.
First train ride. We all enjoyed it. We went with class on a field trip.
Great family Christmas trip. Nothing to see outside the train though
Fun, kids love it
Had a great time
Was ok
Pretty cool specially if you do the train ride
Fun
They were closed. Bit it looked good
My family and I love to ride
Good place to take the family
It is definitely worth the time to take the guided tour. The guides are very informative and let you climb into some some old railway cars. The visit is a wonderful glimpse into the age of railroads and travel by rail.
Train enthusiastic people need to see.
Super fun for the family
Nice museum and short train ride!
I paid for the cab rides, which was well worth the $50.00
We had the greatest day at the Thomas The Train event. What sticks out the most when I think about this day is the staff. In the gift shop, in the train yard, ticket counter, and on the train, young or old, every one of these nice people who work here made us feel welcome and were super friendly and fun! The guy on the train handing out brochures made my day! He was a delight!
For railfans, technology history buffs this is not to be missed. Kids, including grown- up kids, will be thrilled. Others, not so much. It's great on history; lacks the slick "how it works" displays.
Great for the kids.
Pumpkin Patch Express was a good ride. I wish the production was a bit better but overall nice.
