Here we offer you all the opinions of people like you who have information of the services of Kentucky Derby Museum (Museum) in the area close to the state of Kentucky.
At this moment the business gets a rating of 4.7 stars over 5 and this rating was based on 1839 reviews.
As you can read, it has an average rating is virtually the best one, and it's founded on a very large number of feddbacks, so we may say that the assessment is very reliable. If many people have bothered to leave their feddback when they've done well with the service, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to put evaluations when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Museum belongs to the category of Museum.
Definitely worth the visit today. The short 360 degree film was wonderful and the tour was full of informative facts and while the guy who showed us around knew his stuff, you could tell he was a bit over it too lol. All good though. It was very enjoyable and a beautiful day to see it all.
Museum was interesting, movie was worth watching but we were told to skip the walking tour since we purchased the behind the scenes tour. Alex was our tour guide. He definitely kept to the script & asked if anyone had questions. Unfortunately if it wasn't on script he couldn't answer what I considered to be should be known facts for someone giving this tour. Wish we'd taken the walking tour saved $ & time.
We took the tour here and it was an amazing experience. It was well worth the money to see the history and the legend behind the Kentucky derby. If you are ever in Louisville I would stop by and take the tour. You would not regret it. The ladies giving the tour were also the best in the business and were super professional. Good job!
Nestled inside the Mecca of Horse Racing... the Kentucky Derby Museum! If you love the Sport of Kings this is an absolute must!!! It creatively displays the history of Churchill Downs, the Derby and the multitude of Derby winners and the jockeys. It starts of with a fantastic and immersive movie experience and includes a tour of the track. To enjoy and take in all it has to offer, give yourself 2 hours. Very reasonably priced.
This was a great experience! We were able to visit the museum and go track side for a brief tour. Our tour guide was awesome and took the time to answer all questions. Very knowledgeable! Gift shop was pleasant and fun as well.
The museum is so good! Wonderful and interactive! The movie is awesome. Definitely add a backside tour - go as early as you can to catch the most action.
Amazing place!!! Everything was very interactive. I loved this place! Staff very knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend it.
This was an interesting taste of the culture of horseracing including some history. If you have not been there, it is worth the admission, particularly if you like to learn about the culture of a people group.
Loved the tour. Nice video in the round. Got to see horses! Would love to go back for a race.
The food was great and the gift shop was nice and had a good selection. Only complaint I have was quality of the gift shop item I purchased- I bought a really pretty Churchill Downs coffee mug, but within the first few uses, it started to leak. Not fun to have to clean up coffee that leaked all over your desk from your brand new mug!
Great exhibits and had a mini tour of Churchill downs included. The 360 4D video was amazing. It is worth checking out.
Fantastic experience! The museum, track tour, and movie were all outstanding. My wife and my young boys also loved it! I would highly recommend it to anyone in the area
Great visit! Definitely a place to see. Also do the tours at the museum.
The Ladies hats were Fabulous and the museum had souvenirs to purchase for everyone on your list.
Loved it. Worth seeing .
Great experience and very family friendly and interactive. Definite MUST see if in the area. Great knowledgeable staff.
Cool interactive museum. With a great surround movie of the Derby
My junior prom was here. Absolutely beautiful place. They have a little racing game on a horse Which was fun. Prom just definitely one.of my best memories.
Great staff... beautifully set up... Gift shop is beautiful...just an amazing way to see all the Kentucky Derby history!!! The tours are a most!!!
Very kind staff. We attended the gala dinner for a conference and haf a nice tour followed by dinner.
Great folks great time. Put on your bucket list
This is a great place to learn about the Kentucky Derby. I really didn't know anything about, but know I really want to attend one! Tour was great and I would highly recommend it. Museum was well organized and gift shop was affordable.
Very engaging guide, must recommend the walking tour, a bit short without it
I went with my daughter here on a school fieldtrip. It was very neat and educational. We really enjoyed our day. The screen where they play an informative movie is insane! Super neat.
Since I grew up going to Saratoga it was very interesting to learn more about particular horses and trainers, like Bob Baffert in particular.
The exhibits were amazing and the staff was always ready to help. I strongly suggest visitors go in a tour of Churchill Downs, it's a beautiful experience!
Awesome place. The tour options are very nice, and there is a lot of info, even for the casual fan or the tourist that is just visiting for the fun of it.
It was very informative. Loved all the history but wish there was more abt Secretariat.
If you like horses and horse racing and such, this is a nice place to visit. It is actually a wonderful museum for the subject matter. There are a number of interactive activities for the kids including a virtual betting booth to help get them hooked young. All they need are some candy cigars to go with it. The 360 film they show is worth watching. Restrooms are top notch.
By far my favorite thing we have done in Louisville so far! I loved it. Everything was beautiful. The museum was very fun and interactive. The movie was interesting. I think they made a horse racing fan out of me! I want to come back for a race someday!
Great tour of Churchill Downs and some good exhibits. The 360 movie about the Derby was really cool, but the brief tour of Churchill Downs was the best part. You really get a good tour of the high points of the track and race. Would definitely recommend doing it you are in the area.
Great experience. Loved the tour and learning the history of the place and the race
It was a surprise from my fiance. I've wanted to come here for 3 yrs . Finally had the time.. This was fantastic walk in time until present.. Very informative. Very friendly staff. Clean .I had a fantastic day .. thank you very much
Interesting place for those who are into horses and horse racing. If you aren't into either, I would not recommend. That being said, their staff is knowledgeable, entertaining, and friendly. I would recommend only doing their entry cost and not bothering with the 1 hour barn tour. I did not see the entire value in that. We were lucky enough to have the head of security come to visit us on our tour and he was awesome.
We did the basic admission tour. It was cute, but very short and nothing really wowed me. The tour guide was great and answered any questions, and I learned a few pieces of information but I still was left wanting a little more.
Tour guide was great! They run every hour on the half hour so just make sure you time it right. Museum is very well done, lots of interactive exhibits and space so you're not crowding other people.
I'm not a big horse racing fan, but being such an iconic event, we thought we would check it out. The 360 movie was interesting, but the highlight was the walking tour. The tour guide was informative and made sure everyone could hear and understand. The memorabilia was fun and unique and there were a few interactive things for kids.
Awesome, the history and exhibitions, were fantastic. Nice dinner & great bourbon. The staff was all great!
Highly recommended place to visit. I had a great tour guide.
Lots of history to review. Interesting stories, multi media displays to keep anyone's interest.
Was great ' the movie was great. Also the walking tour was nice. Wish had more time to explore more.
Totally awesome! Great tour with knowledgeable staff. The movie is a moving and thunderous 360 degree immersion. Watch it! The museum itself shows all the history and the paddock tour is worth the extra coin if you love horses.
Outstanding!!! Very interesting tour of the grounds included in admission price, with very knowledgeable staff and a very well-kept facility. A must see!
Great afternoon seeing everything.
The history, the memorabilia, the antiques, everything was wonderful ❤
Once live experience. A most if you are in town. Bring money, and guards if you win. All cash only
Beautiful museum sharing the interesting history of the kentucky derby
I always wanted to go the the Derby as a child and finally made it in my senior years. I attended the preview dinner of the grand opening of the Derby; cost was about $150 per person. It was a buffet with so-so food but it was constantly being restocked. Beverages were extra. I can't remember but the Mint Julep with souvenir glass was about $15 each. Service was excellent. We had our own betting lines and ceiling televisions all around the room. It was worth the price. Our seats were at the finish line - covered and opened balconies. It was just like what you saw on the television - women wearing the gorgeous hats and men in their race horse clothes.
You should check it out, and take the tour, very Interesting!
Absolutely loved it. Wished I had more time to spend in museum!
Really nice...have want to come to this place since I was a child...
What's not to love! Hard to pick just the right souvenirs but I think we did ok! Great choices!
Nice museum with good 30 min tour that gives you a lot of basics. Barry is the best tour guide!
It was more than I imagined it to be. Very fun place to visit. Spend an hour or spend a half day. Up to you and your interests. Educational and interactive.
A truly wonderful experience, this place is wonderful, so much history, a true gem.
Excellent. Worth the drive and entrance fee. Fully enjoyed it
Awesome walking tour and learned so much about the history and walked where the horses have for decades!!! Better than going to the races for my daughter and I who are from the West coast!!!
If you ever come to Louisville the Derby Museum is a must. Great exhibits and hands on booths. The tour is nice and so are the souvenirs. Very friendly staff.
So much to see here, you really need a whole day! We went on two of the Churchill Downs tours in the morning (great, thanks to tour guides Bob and Dee!) and had lunch at the Derby Cafe (underwhelming). We spent the entire afternoon in the museum and just barely saw everything. It's all interesting and much is interactive. The 360° movie is a must-see--both my husband and I were moved nearly to tears. There's something here for everyone, whether or not you are a Derby fan, although wee ones might be bored quickly.
The museum has a nice layout and lots to see. The 360° movie is top notch and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful!
Awesome place to go and see.
An interesting look at the opulence of horse racing's crown jewel.
I don't watch the derby but it was cool to look at the history of it and get a tour. You will enjoy it more if you like the races.
Informative. Very well laid out. Neat picture taking opportunities throughout the entire museum. Reasonably priced tours and merch.
Absolutely breathtaking! Kentucky Derby experts and people who have little knowledge on the Kentucky Derby will have an amazing time and will walk away huge fans. The museum is very clean and nicely laid out. All the personal artifacts donated by trainers, owners, and jockeys were a very unique touch as well. The $15 admission fee is worth every penny.
The walking tour was incredible. I plan to come back and take the extended walking tour this place is just incredible.
Learned a lot. Great tour guide.
It was a lot of fun! Very good history presentation and the tour had a lot of information for novices like me. Highly recommend! The staff was very knowledgeable and was willing to answer the questions of everyone in our group.
Great museum to learn about past Derby winners.
Great place. Loved it. The reasonable fee was nice too.
Great details about most famous horse racing ever.
I took my three grandsons for a visit on a busy day. We were there for nearly two hours and that's a record for them. The 360 theater really stood out. We enjoyed being taken through the birth of the colt up to race day. The hour by hour on race day really captured the boys attention. I especially liked time spent on crowd festivities and the ladies hats. The walking tour got a bit long for them but the boys especially liked the riders up display with interactive TV racing. They had it to themselves as the movie started again
Whether you're a horse racing fan or simply looking for a unique Louisville activity, the Kentucky Derby Museum is a fun and interesting place to visit to learn about the history of the sport.
Lots of history. Be sure to go on the barns and backside tour. You will get to see the infield, the barns and paddock, and lots of horses.
Such a great place to get some neat memorabilia. The staff was helpful to also direct tourists to nearby restaurants and places to check out. Very nice area and a must do on your itinerary!
Nice to see before you go der the horses run
Didnt know the walking historical tour came with it, but wish I would've. Staff was nice.
Amazing museum. Worth the visit.
Loved the 360° wraparound movie screen used to tell the history of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. Informative tour available as well if you're up for a short walk.
Did not think I was going to like it...but was really great and the tour guide was very knowledgable
Wonderful movie about Churchill Downs. Bob, our guide, was informative and fun.
The museum provides a thorough outline of the Kentucky Derby but the tour takes it to the next level. Our tour guide, Alex, was a very passionate speaker and had a vast knowledge of the Churchills Down/Horse Racing. He welcomed all questions and answered them without hesitation. Aside from attending the Kentucky Derby itself, I couldn't have been more pleased with museum and its tour of The Churchill Downs.
We took the walking tour and bus tour of Churchill Downs and both were fabulous. We ate at the cafe and had a Mint Julep, yummy. The museum and exhibits are top notch. You can pretend to be a jockey, ride a horse, bet on a race, and call a race. An immersive experience. The store has many gift items and awesome derby hats for women and men. We were there 5 hours and loved it.
Great place to visit while visiting Louisville.
This museum is amazing for a horse race. I want expecting much but as soon as I watched the movie they provided I knew this museum would be great. The amount of money spent here is probably up in the upper tiers for museums as the amount of information provided covers everything from the jockeys to the horses to even the clothes that are worn. I wish I had more time when I came as you can easily spend 2+ hours here. Worth the visit for just the movie alone.
Great film of derby day. I loved the tours and history of the place
A great place! Very clean and staff are kind, knowledgeable and make you feel welcomed. Love all the information on the Kentucky Derby!
Alot of history here you just have to check it out yourself. You'll learn about the most famous of horses and the races that truly stood out. Parking is hectic, if u dont want to pay for it prepare to walk.
100% worth the price. Museum and walking tour (outdoors so keep weather in mind) included for $15. My grandpa can’t stop talking about how much info he learned and how fun the experience was.
Fun. I know nothing about horse races & I enjoyed it, so if you like horse racing, you'll love it.
Friends of ours recommended that we pay the $5 extra to get the "behind the scenes" tour and it was absolutely worth it! We were able to see the thoroughbreds in their stalls, witnessed horse-shoeing, and the procedures they go through to prepare the horses for their upcoming races. We were able to see the stall where the famous Secretariat was housed during his time of racing. You can also see the race track and famous Churchill downs stand from the other side of the field for some great photo shoots. So glad we listened to our friends and took the extra time to do this tour
This was a really fun way to learn more about the history of the derby.
Great place to learn all the history from Churchhill downs
This place is first class! Our favorite part was the movie that runs on an oval screen, representing the track. Awesome exhibits with so much information. Did you know these horses can go from 0 to 40 mph in 3 strides? Friendly staff and super gift shop. We took the backlot van tour. We saw many horses and barns and got to see a race from the other side of the track. Very cool! If you're in the Louisville area, this is a must do!
The museum is great, the cafe was a huge disappointment. Went there a few years ago and it was very nice - a place to go for special occasions. Took out of town guest yesterday and was shocked. No table clothes, order at the counter, get drinks yourself at another station. Food was good but no ambiance. The staff were very nice.
The panoramic movie was the best. Our guide was helpful & knowledgeable. Just wished we could have also visited the stables.
A nice little museum to accompany the race track. Great to bring the kids and have some fun.
Just beautiful. History of fast horses always a favorite..
Whenever I watch the Kentucky Derby, I will recall the fond memories of visiting there.
Kentucky's claim to fame you got to love it! ( Next to the bourbon of course! Which I love more
Sitting in the oval screened room & watching the history of the derby was such a thrill it was hard not to cry with excitement. Absolutely loved the place
if love the history of horse racing you will love this place
A wonderful experience! Our grandkids loved it as well.
It's was really a great piece of history.
Wonderful museum, very friendly knowledgeable staff.
A cornucopia of trophies, costumes, hats and history of the past winning horses of the famed Kentucky Derby. Excellent video with an arrangement of 360 degree screens that give you that realism of attending the races. Fun green screen backdrop for having your picture taken against the background of racing horses. Catered hot food was dry from being under the heat lamps otherwise it was a fun visit. Museum gift shop had a nice selection of souvenirs. Would highly recommend a visit when in Louisville.
There is a lot of horse racing history here. This is very well done.
Have a wonderful time at the museum. So much history. Great artifacts and pictures. Just a really good time. Definitely worth going to.
Happy Place and there is so much to do!
I have been around a lot of horse stuff in Louisville, and have grown up around horses, and still had a great time and learned a lot from this place. They've done a great job making it work for my young kids, as well as our guests from out of country, and even people that live and breath the horse industry every day.
I really enjoyed and reccomend this museum and the tour. My favorite part was the 360 degree movie, wow that was really different! The tour was really cool because you get to see the horses come out before the race and then go up in the stands and watch a race. Highly recommend it!
Lots to see. Very insightful of derby history. Worth a visit.
Very informative. So much history. Take the tour.
I'm 60 and it was my first time there. I brought my grandchildren. We loved it. The people at the ticket area were so friendly and helpful.
Friendly and informative staff. Cool place to visit. A must visit in Louisville. Call ahead for small group tour - just a bit more money. Great movie they show.
These was a worth it tour to take. We took the basic tour which was perfect and gave us all the information we wanted, better than an actual derby since the most affordable tickets for the real thing do not allow you in the grounds, you would be on the other side of the mote watching a large T.V. screen). We got to get close to the track, and stand by the best seats. The guide was excellent. The museum is very nice and big, we were also able to purchase and enjoy a mint julep at the restaurant. We got the whole experience without having to attend a race. That was perfect for us.
Absolutely love visiting the museum. The history of the Kentucky Derby is presented in a really fantastic way...pictures and the movie and each race displayed is a very easy to understand way are just a few of the many reasons I love it!!!
Tour guide was great, but staff at museum was subpar... were boarder rude as they rushed us out of museum after tour... tour came back after museum closed and did not give us five minutes to pick up souvenirs.
Awesome tours and rich history. Loved our guide.
We fell in love with this place! The history, the design, the friendliness, the information! This place will give you any information you want on the Kentucky Derby and if you weren't a fan of the Derby before, you will be after you visit! This was more of an experience than it was a museum. Wow, it will captivate your attention while remembering all of those famous horse races that you had watched and enjoyed.
Beautiful facility and museum. Our walking tour guide and movie guide were both excellent. Museum exhibits are all top notch!
Was interesting and fun. Had always wanted to go there and Louisville is a great place.
We visited the Kentucky Derby Museum just 4 days before the big race. It should be a "must do" event during your visit to Louisville. The museum is very educational and easy to maneuver through. There are interactive exhibits and the movie is outstanding. You also get a tour out to the racecourse inside of Churchill Downs. It was exciting to be standing in that iconic place. We encountered several staff members during our visit and each one was polite, engaging and helpful.
Awesome experience. Well worth the price of admission for how much amazing history you are able to see and learn.
Great theater to watch 360 views of the grounds, training sessions & the life of a colt from birth to race. Tours available for part or entire grounds. Guides are friendly and knowledgeable. Couldn't believe how large grounds are. Gift shop has lots of hats, etc., A can't miss if you're in the area.
The tour was actually a lot of fun and I'm not even a horse fan
Real life starting gate made by metal artisan and Montanan Mike O 'Connor. Movie in the theater is evocative.
Really nice tour of Churchill Downs. Our tour guide, Bob was great! Very informative and interesting. The museum is very nice and the movie is awesome.
Well thought out with a variety of content. The movie you get to watch is also incredibly cool, 360 view and the right amount of time. The director of security came down to give an introduction before it began and fielded questions which was nice
This was $15 for adults and was enjoyable. The video gives a good background and then the tour out to the race track is more interesting as a result. I managed to do the video and movie in a little under an hour. The museum has some nice features so give yourself a little time for that too.
Worth going to for certain! You can tour the track area and pay a little extra and tour the stables! Museum was informative with a nice movie to watch and loved seeing all the hats on display! Nice gift shop also! Worth doing if you’re in Louisville!
Excellent museum tour. Friendly, clean, free parking. I will upgrade from general admission next time.
Very good overview of Derby history as well as a significant collection of artifacts.
I think this should absolutely not be missed on a trip to Louisville. The entire experience was top-notch, including the basic (but relatively thorough) tour of Churchill Downs. I enjoyed, learned, and felt tugs on my heartstrings. Also, my kids (10, 8, 4) loved it, as did my partner. We were very greeted warmly upon arrival at the ticket counter. When I inquired about the horseshoe that a staff member was using like a paperweight, she got one for my kids as a free souvenir. Our tour guide through Churchill Downs made the time fun and informative. The Downs is at least beautiful as I thought (nice weather helped), and some of the rules and specifications related to the Derby are different than I had assumed. I'm not a hat aficionado, but the display of Derby hats was captivating to me. In addition to classic still displays like the hats, there were plenty of interactive exhibits that tend to make modern museums engaging. My kids very much enjoyed the arcade game horse race where folks sit on a (fake) horse while playing. The 360 degree movie in the track-shaped theater was perhaps the most well-done part of the museum. I thought it captured so much excitement, emotion, and vivid color. The two-minute Derby itself is, of course, a huge deal, but so is all of Derby day. The lengthy Derby preparations and the relationships between humans and horses were portrayed in a way that portrayed the love and hard work present.
Loved this experience. We just did the standard walking tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Very cool place gifts and hands on stuff. In the middle of the museum there is a 360 view movie about the history of the Kentucky Derby. Very cool place.
Great day out. Tour was very interesting as was the film in 360 degree surround vision. Also nice café/bar with friendly staff.
Awesome! I didn't think I'd be interested in doing the tour but it was worth it!
It show the history of the Kentucky Derby winners of all time. Very very I informative. Will go back again.
Very nice newly redone I was a little disappointed about the dramatic price increase from just a couple years ago and they are no longer giving AAA discounts. The gift shop was outrageously priced. I would never buy anything there unless you enjoy paying $75 for a t-shirt with an iron on logo.
Very interesting museum and informative tour. Loved hearing about some of the history of the derby and other races.
Great place to visit and go on the tour of the grounds .
This was a such a great experience!!! We had a private tour with an extremely knowledgeable guide. Everything was beautiful and the staff working were all friendly. We had a 60 person group for a company event and the dinner they offered us was so far past amazing!!! I did not upload any pictures of artifacts because everyone should make this place a “need to go” travel destination!!!
Amazing. Take your time so you can see everything.
Friendly staff. Lots to see. Great video presentation.
Great museum with interactivity and plenty of exhibits, plus a great 360 video about the Kentucky Derby and entirety of events leading up to it. The tour wasn't as impressive as I had hoped. The tour guide was knowledgable, yet he could only bring us into the stands area, then right back out, and not the center of the track as well.
Great tour guide! Loved seeing the horses early in the morning!
Excellent museum!! Well organized and lots to do and see.
Very exciting and educational The walking tour was great Darrell is awesome.
Very educational and worth visiting at least once.
The tour guide was outstanding and very knowledgeable about Churchhill Downs.
Amazing tour. Very informative
Cool place to see, but very dissapointing because of limited availability of tours. Plan ahead.
This was a very cool place with a lot of history. We walked through the museum and had a guided tour of Millionaires Row. The guide was very informative and entertaining.
Need I say anything, great history!
This was an interesting and fun museum and tour of Churchill Downs. The museum focuses on the Kentucky Derby but it also addresses the other races in the Triple Crown. Several other trophies are on display, including the Woodlawn Vase from the Preakness in Baltimore. The tour gets you right down onto the rail at the track. We only spent a couple of hours there but you could easily make it a half-day, depending on your speed going through museums.
A fun way to be learn the history on horse racing
The history makes this an amazing destination.
