This Museum is classified in the category of Museum.
This place was A LOT better than I expected, in fact, I loved it. I loved Wizard of Oz when I was 4 or 5 but then just forgot about it. My mom was adamant about going to this museum for she has always loved the movie and had a higher appreciation for it than I. The whole town has some special energy about it with the little Toto statues all around town and the colorful signs. The museum itself is very interesting and gives quite a bit of insight into the making of the movie, it's cast, etc. It rekindled an interest in a movie that is 80 years old. Highly recommend.
Very cute museum with lots of artifacts and info. The scenes they have set up to match the movie were very accurate and great photo ops. Gift shop was excellent for fans of Oz!
Loved it. Been from VA to Arizona, on way back and we stopped. So happy we did!! If you get chance stop and enjoy
Absolutely worth seeing....very nice area
Being an Oz fan, it's a great little stop!
Very Nice We Enjoyed Oz!...Love From Ohio
Loved it a d very nice staff
Wonderful place to visit for the young to the very old! Great gift shop; nice, friendly staff. I arrived just after closing and explained I absolutely could not come back the next day. So, the very nice young lady who I assume was the Boss, told her staff to allow me to walk through and make purchases at the end. Some other workers were putting 2 new acquisitions on display, and the manger/Boss told me I would be the very first public person (non-worker, owner or museum worker) to see them. They are from the original Wizard of Oz movie.
Very unique place in the middle of nowhere. They had a surprising amount of memorabilia and exhibits. Would definitely recommend for anyone passing through to stop. Really awesome. (But good luck finding good food around)
Very nice people working there. A bit dissapointed in the lack of authentic memorabilia. There was mostley marketing and promotional stuff.
Not a huge Museum, but plenty to look at. I expected there to be more movie props or things from that. There are some of those items but mostly it seems to be a museum dedicated to the author and his family which is great. But as a lover of the film I was a little underwhelmed by the lack of movie memorabilia. I feel like the film like I do you'll be sure to spend at least 30 minutes.
Absolutely a must! Lots of memorabilia and knowledgeable staff.
Always wanted to go here and finally did while traveling. As a professional musician, The Wizard of Oz has always had a profound effect on me. The staff was helpful and the setup was fantastic. Definitely recommend!
Very well put together and informational museum
It was amazing!! Loved everything about it and plan on returning one day!
Like stepping out of little kansas and stepping into the movie
A MUST SEE for anyone that enjoys the movie/story! Featuring an extensive collection of artifacts and history, this museum is well worth the drive.
Very cool little museum surprisingly. Normally small town museums are kind of raggedy and plain, but this one is very well done and gives you tons to look at and learn. I learned a lot about the movie and books, it's way more in depth than you would think.
This was the most fun, amazing and absolute dream of an experience for me! The gals in the front were awesome in the museum was so cool!
Nice little place, big part of what makes wamego so unique
So many interesting pieces in the museum! There's a lot to see, and the gift shop has a lot of books to choose from
Super fun place to take the family!
Awesome place to visit. The girls were very sweet. Really enjoyed it.
The museum is a nice stop on a long travel day to Denver along I-70. It's about 10 minutes off the freeway. It had a lot of history inside it's cases, so be prepared to read and enjoy the historical significance behind the making of The Wizard of Oz. The gift shop was neat as well. I enjoyed it!
Finally got time to check it out. Very cool.. Got some good stuff in the gift shop!
Everything I expected and more, staff super super friendly, love love loved the gift shop
Definitely a bucket list when you're in Kansas. It was a lovely museum with a number of artifacts everything OZ!
Super cool little museum, worth the stop on the way through.
This place is huge and well worth a 25 mile (round trip) detour to go see. They have so much memoribilia and a theatre too. The gift shop has whimsical and unique choices, some even in the budget range. Ice cream shop next door.
Very small and lacks exhibits. You can go through it all in about ten minutes. The exhibits look like they are someone's private collection put on display. I expected more authentic pieces from the film.
Awsome place... very detailed on all the stuff.. will recommend everyone e go see it.. alsothe whole town was very cool
Oz Museum explains the significance of Oz. It is an unique American culure. I was surprised by the huge collections of different editions of Oz. Museum is a non profit organization. Admission is for the upkeep of the museum. Bring student card for discount.
This was the best museum I've been to in a LONG time!! It had everything and more you needed to know about the Wizard of OZ and if you're a fan like me you will surely enjoy this wonderful experience just as I did. There is a gift shop too with cool little toys and books as well as adorable shirts!!! So if you're in Kansas just take a little detour. You won't regret it!
It was Great! Very interesting. Had a good time and the staff was very nice. Next time I go back to Topeka I plan on making the trip to include this fun and interesting museum.
Fun and interesting museum. Learned very interesting facts about the making of the movie!
Who doesn't love Oz? 10 minutes off the I 70. Great town. Really nice museum... worth the price of $9. Lots of characters to take pictures with. Gift shop reasonably priced. I needed a shirt that said "Dont make me release my flying monkeys" and a striped pencil reading "shoes to die for". Yellow brick road was pretty. AND you can say you went to 'Oz' in Kansas.
We absolutely loved our experience! Our 14 year old loved the historical video that was playing about the author and movie. Our 4 year old loved the theater where they were playing the movie. Would definitely recommend going if you're in the neighborhood!
We loved the museum! Our 10 year old son even got excited. The ladies up front are knowledgeable and so sweet. Defiently worth the stop!!
Great place to visit! I love the little theater showing the movie and the gift shop. The people that work there are so nice!
This place was pretty awesome! The memorabilia was amazing! Their gift shop was a bit pricey, but all in all we had a great time here.
we've been here three times bringing all different people. It was a lot of fun again. Wish the souvenirs + t-shirts weren't so expensive.
Nice little place to go if you're an OZ fan
Just a really great place to visit.
Well worth the trip to Oz in Wamego. Must see and do for all Oz fans!
Just a wonderful place I'd you like the wizard of oz at all! You're free to take pictures and even watch the entire movie if you want. I really wanted to do this and wine tasting at Oz Winery but just didn't have time for both. I highly recommend!
Very neat place to visit .
For those who grew up watching the movie on TV every year, this is a wonderful place to experience the many ways the movies and books have impacted our culture and feel part of the experience. For me it was well worth the $9 admission. Little kids will likely only enjoy the movie scene recreations and not want to read the informative notes attached to numerous cases of interesting Oz info about the actors, costumes, and Frank L. Baum.
Really enjoyed this surprising little gem. Several pieces from the film a lot of background we didn't know, and just a generally fun place.
WoW what a hidden treasure. We were very impressed by this private collection and the way the town has embraced it. Its 9 miles off of I 70 but worth the trip. Dont miss this.
Fun town oz museum is easy to find loads of fun No matter the age
I was delightfully surprised & amazed !!! Learned so much.
Fun place reasonable prices worth going to if fan of wizard of oz
I visited the Museum this September with some family members. We're from California and we were doing a road trip through Kansas where our parents were born & raised. The Wizard of Oz has been near & dear to our hearts our whole lives and this was an amazing adventure on our trip. The Museum is an magical. The amount of Oz history in that building is Priceless. I wish I could remember the name of the young lady who welcomed us into the Museum. She was the best! We arrived when it opened and she came out and took pictures for us. Once inside, she did a short intro to the Museum filled with fun facts as we entered the land of Oz from Dorothy's front porch. We started our great adventure. I heard her introducing other guests to the Museum and she never used the same story twice. Each visitor was welcomed with a fresh description of their adventure. We'll Done! After going through the Museum, the exit brings you back to the gift shop which has a nice stock of Oz memorabilia. I highly recommend this adventure to anyone who loves The Wizard of Oz. As we were leaving, we were asked by the young lady that started us on our adventure, " What else could they do at the museum to improve the experience?". Our answer was, "Nothing!". It is perfect!
I absolutely love this place.. I was here about 10yrs ago and had to come back and visit since I was in the area.. I brought some family that didn't even know this place was here ,they absolutely loved it.. so much Oz history..if u are a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz I HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting this place
This museum was the coolest ever! Filled with facts and memories from the making and the people involved in the movie!! Loved the staff and the gift shop! Will definitely visit again
Very well put together. Was full of fun facts and lots of colorful things from the movies and the books.
So amazing! Worth the trip! So much stuff from the actual movie! You will love it if your a fan!
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE! There are so many of The Wizard Of Oz collection pieces in hear! They have an awesome small walk through the forest to get to The Wicked Witches' Castle!
My family and I really enjoyed our visit here, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the museum itself was fun, and well put together. They have a excellent collection of artifacts from the actors and the movie, my only complaint was the gift shop was a little too pricey.
This is a really fun museum. It's full of awesome memorabilia from the movie and also includes exhibits and information from L. Frank Baum's other stories. The exhibits are well-organized and very complete. My sister, my niece and I all went through twice because we enjoyed it so much. The town itself has really cashed in on the Oz theme with the museum, a winery and even a restaurant called, Toto's Tacos. Every Oz fan will find plenty to appreciate.
Oz Museum in Wamego Kansas only $9 per person (no discounts - but they have a donations box at the end) Especially if you have a guided tour. This is the perfect little town for a day trip, visit the winery, the Friendship House for Baked goods or Toto Tacoz for Mexican food...and head over to The Columbian Museum for a Tour of some amazing paintings by Behr from the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
What a Wonderful Little Museum! The Staff was Extremely Friendly and what a Magical place..A definite see if you're in the area..Everything is reasonably priced also..
Cool! A must see for all Oz lovers!
Great place to visit. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The museum was everything we hoped for.
I love this museum A perfect family stop. So worth the time and travel!
Loved the Oz Museum, full of memories about the movie.
Had a great time here! For us, dont think we will go back BUT it is definitely something to experience at least once! Great for kids and adults! Lots of interesting facts about the production, history and everything OZ!
Smaller than we thought it'd be but you can tell it was put together with love and care. Definitely worth the visit to learn more about the Wizard of Oz and to look at tons of paraphernalia.
I loved all of the memorabilia!! A special thanks to the lady that was running the place that day!!! My great granddaughter dropped the car key in the yellow cone where you can donate money and the lady was so nice about having to call someone to come and unlock it to get the car key!! Within 10 mins. She came to the taco place where we were eating and with a beautiful smile handed over the key!!!!❤
Great place for Oz fans!
It was great. Love all the thing's in there.
OMG, lots of fun. It takes you on a journey thru Oz.
Awesome museum and I am not even a fan of this movie. If you are a fan, this is heaven.
I have been wanting to go there for a couple of years. My husband took my daughter and I. It was a little disappointing. We drove 4 hours there and was done in about 20 minutes. None of the other businesses were open either to eat. All that hype to be left disappointed.
Kinda small but very well worth it
My friend and I LOVED the museum! We traveled here all the way from Chicago just to visit. The staff was friendly, the gift shop was so cute but the STUFF! My goodness so much cool stuff! The display cases were beautifully organized and I learned so much that I hadn't known before! It really was a Wizard of Oz experience. Tons of photo ops and there are even Toto's around to take photos of! I wish it was closer! I'd love to go back!
Lots of fun! Kids loved the "tornado" experience.
IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME WE WILL NEVER FORGET ! WE JUST FOLLOWED THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD !
My daughter loves this place, They have a very large and nice collection of memorabilia and collectables... We will definitely be stopping by again if we are in the area.
Great place for any family
Wow! What a great place in a small town. A ton of things to see and the museum is well thought out with plenty of picture opportunities.
Fun place to stop. Quaint little town. Loved all the memorabilia.
Outstanding, really learned alot about Wizzard of Oz
Very thorough museum. I've never seen so much Oz memorabilia.
If you love the Wizard of Oz you will be happy you were there. Alot of memorabilia and the movie runs all the time. Its in a outof the way town but its worth it to go.
A true gem! We loved visiting the museum. The staff was friendly and all willing to help take pictures, answer questions, or to provide information. The museum held lots of memorabilia from the original film... and all the books! Was fun for all ages!
Very interesting place
Just an awesome display of anything from the Wizard of Oz. Self guided tour, $9 for adults, photo ops available. Very cool!!
I really enjoyed the self guided tour and the staff was very friendly and helpful. If you grew up loving this movie it’s a must.
I Really enjoyed this place I saw it on Mysterys at the Museum on history channel or travel channel and I wanted to go and see this Museum and finally got the chance and loved it I'm going back too get a souvenir I hope this won't be my last time at this Museum
Surprisingly fun stop. We had a big Oz fan in our party and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of memorabilia, well organized and carefully presented by staff who clearly understand and love their material. Could be boring for kids under 8.
Tons of history here. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoyed the movie. I recommend sitting and watching the video on the making of the movie. Its fascinating
A wonderful Museum and contribution to the movie of Oz. Anybody in Kansas or who comes through should get that knocked off their bucket list!
Loved the artifacts and welcoming nature of this place. Highly recommend if you are an Oz fan.
So amazing! Can't say enough good things about it. Interesting things to see and you feel like you're in Oz. The whole strip where its located is a real gem that looks like its from another time. Love it!
Very cool place.
We decided to stop by the Oz Museum while traveling through Kansas and very happy that we did. A very cool museum of the Wizard of Oz and a great group of employees who were very professional and kind.
Interesting place. Brings back memories. Worth a visit.
Would get 5 stars if they had some original costuming or stage setting.
Loved the experience and being able to share it with my sisters who flew from Hawaii
What a neat experience, it has everything Oz related.
Was expecting normal tourist trap. Nice surprise how well executed their collections and dioramas were. We spent an hour, could have spent two. Videos, behind the scenes stuff, costumes, marketing goods and a great collection of l Frank Baum's books and history. Nice selection of souvenirs and friendly, helpful employees. If you are a fan, it is well worth the trip.
The Curator here was Amazing to say the least, her knowledge of the artifacts & film production was off the charts! A must see place for all things "Oz", I am 60 and learned so, so much about a movie that has touched us all in unique ways, travel to Wamego...see it, you would not regret it!!
If you are a wizard of Oz fan you should strongly consider a trip to the Oz museum!
Great collection of oz materials from many decades. Worth an hour or 2 of time.
stopped here on the way through. well worth the visit. Its pretty short and you get everything you need in one shop.
Love this place!! It was a true dream come true to see this on our road trip.to follow the yellow brick road of history and learn so much tgrugh the museums treasures of both books and the movies. This town is also great. The best folks. Cant wait to go back.
Super cute and fun, fantastic gift shop.
Super, must see, memorable!!
The costumes from the movie, the books, the stories about his mother in law, the posters, the toys, the pictures, even the movie itself! I could not see everything this visit, but I do want to go back.
This place was fairly well setup, but it clearly was only there as a tourist attraction for being in the middle of nowhere. (After all, it is in the middle of Kansas!) It was very interesting to me, as they had exhibits detailing every bit of both things in the movie and behind the movie.
Passing through from Knoxville TN, heading to Denver and thought we would give the museum a “try”. We were pleasantly surprised. The museum was a class act. The exhibits were quality exhibits and informative. I highly recommend the museum if you enjoy Wizard of Oz. I left the attraction with a desire to watch the movie again. BTW - The town of Wamego is absolutely charming, we regret not having more time to spent there.
This is a quaint little place to visit and one of those that you have to do while here in Kansas. They had some cute artifacts and definitely tell some interesting details about the movie.
So many different things to look at and read had fun!
If you like the wizard of oz its worth the trip. Its got a lot of memorbillia and info
Truly worth the time, very well done
I had a fun time here going down memory lane. Lots to see and buy!
Wish it was closer. I really like it.
It was pretty cool from the outside, I had to wait in the car because I'm too young to drink
Great little museum! Enjoyed the tulip festival going on that day as well!!
If your a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz - this a must see. Lots of memorabilia and information regarding the original book and author. Statues of all main characters except Professor Marvel. But am assured it's in the works. Lots of fun!
Way to get of it I-70 for a minute. The museum things they had were all recreated not alot of original things from the movie a little disappointed. But staff was nice. They had a tornado machine $2.00 but my little kids loved it. Was hoping to find Tee shirt or bumper sticker saying "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." But they didnt have it... but my 6 year old had fun!
Great place. Lots of memorabilia. Lots of factual information. Display of all the characters.
I loved the OZ Museum....Had a great time seeing everything and reading about it all.
We're arrived about 7 minutes before closing time, a young asian employer said that we cannot enter. I explain the reason just to take some pics inside and quickly, but wasn't enough to convince her, not even after did 13 hours of fly and so many others by drive. All was useless. So if you want to visit it be prepared at this kind of treatment
Lots of cool stuff related to the Oz Movie and book.
We visited there yesterday. We really enjoyed the visit. They have all kinds of stuff to see and read about. The gift shoppe has lots of items for sell. We bought several items. We would definitely go again. Cute little small town. All the employees were very nice and friendly. All 5 of us had a great time and enjoyed our visit.
Alot of books and figurines along with notes to learn about the series etc
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!! Now let me just say that I am not an absolute DieHard wizard of Oz fan... I've grown up reading the books and enjoying the stories and watching the 1939 movie...I have a healthy appreciation for the story and new some about the behind the scenes of the making of the movie, but I'm not one of those people who have wizard of Oz stuff all over their house. But we were passing right by the museum and thought what the heck? We should check this out. My traveling companion has actually never seen The wizard of Oz and I was a little afraid he might be bored (although I went with him to the Eisenhower museum the day before and I really enjoyed that) The museum was easy to find especially using directions provided by Google. driving down town you could tell which building it was going to be, the one with the great big emerald green front and the two Toto statues out front. I did not realize that there are 15 different statues in a very very small walking area all done by local artists all done in different art styles of Toto's. The museum will even give you a walking map to her and you don't have to walk very far. I loved that. The museum's front as a gift shop, not that uncommon. Great wizard of Oz items. Good selection of t-shirts, ruby slippers, plush and shot glasses and mugs and all sorts of stuff. fun that they had a tornado simulator machine as well couple of bucks I think and you could be inside this wind tunnel. Okay so for the museum, we felt it was a very Fair admission price and our curator, a young woman who I unfortunately did not catch her name, very very nice and she said she was starting a soda on the journey we would begin on Aunt Em's porch in sepia tones just like in the movie and when we walk through we would be in the Technicolor Land of Oz. It was incredible. The amount of material that they were able to accumulate was completely staggering. Tons of antique and vintage and hard-to-find items, all about the book series, the characters, and lots of stuff about the making of the movie. there were videos that were playing throat the exhibits that explained all different kinds of facts and trivia which was really fun to watch, and there was a little movie theater which could hold about 30 people and the theater was playing of course, "the wizard of Oz"! I loved how they had life-size recreations of all of the major characters that you came across in the order that they were introduced in the film. Loved walking through the haunted forest to The witches Castle and having a photo op in the air balloon. I couldn't think of a single thing that I would take away, and it was very very difficult to say what my favorite part was. I was absolutely astounded and if it had not been close to a hundred degrees that day then we definitely would have walked around and gone and seen all the total statues, walked the yellow brick road to the city park, and visited the Oz winery and Toto's tacos. Fantastic!!
Very informative and great customer service! Dont let the small entrance fool you. There are thousands of artifacts and even a hot air balloon (does not actually take off in the sky) for pictures.
Great museum! Loved all the interesting facts and behind the movie info. Great place for kids!
We loved our visit! Very friendly greetings with an adorable tour. Gift shop too!
This wasnt a planned stop but so glad we stopped. Our son who has autism loved it
Pretty cool experience, definitely would do again!
What a gem in the middle of no where. We saw the sign off the inner state highway and figured why not check it out. They even had the movie playing for us the watch for a while. I learned think about the movie and author that I never knew.
Super cute place to visit in such a cute little town. I highly recommend!
It was great going to the past, hope you can stop by to see it.
We were driving through it was amazing I wish we had more time to enjoy more of it and take our time it was AMAZING!!!! Everyone was very kind very clean everything was just the greatest!!
Very neat display! Lots of movie props, art, original movie posters and more. Gift shop had a great selection and fair prices!
Great little stop to check out. Family friendly. Great staff.
Stunning place! must visit
Wonderful place! Not only was the actual museum filled with fun, informative pieces, the staff was incredibly knowledgeable of the local area. The giftshop is also plentiful with trinkets and books; it's almost worth visiting on its own. Thanks to the staff for making great recommendations on how to spend the rest of my visit to the Topeka area. As the collections being shown rotate, I will be visiting again on my next trip.
Love it loved it great place. One of my favorite movies of all time and it did not disappoint. Learned so much more than I thought. If you go through Kansas take the shot dive off the road and the $9 is not bad.
I was unexpectedly thrilled with the quality and thoroughness of each display! If you are an Oz fan, this little gem is WELL WORTH the drive! (We drove a little under 2 hours) The staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
Totally worth the 10 to 15 minute drive off of I-70. A wide variety of items, life-size dioramas make for cute pictures and a few documentary videos are scattered throughout. The movie plays at the end of the hall all the time. People are nice and the gift store has really cool stuff. Admission is relatively inexpensive, we didn't look for any deals and paid $9 for adults and $7 for kids.
Awesome! Worth the 10 mile drive off the hiway.. Beautiful town!!!?
Plan at least 2 hours to see this REALLY cool attraction. I'm so glad I stopped.
Watch my Facebook For Pictures of The Wizard of Oz
This was a awesome day with family and frenz, my lil tt had fun.
My wife is always been a huge wizard of Oz fan so we were driving cross-country and decided to stop so glad we did certainly worth it
It's really worthy. It's amazing all the stuff they have in a small cute place. We loved it!!
You have to stop, very welcoming and very nice people
Good for kids..not very long to walk thru
Lots of fun. Kid friendly. Must see.
Cool little place.. especially for kids.
I’m a huge Wizard of Oz fan and I really loved this museum! There were so many interesting things to look at and read about. I also loved that they play the movie in there too. The gift shop was adorable and had some fun things in it as well. I also loved that right across the street there is a Yellow Brick Road to walk down. Definitely hope I can go back one day!
Wonderful museum with very interesting facts! The staff was incredibly friendly! My 4 year wrote a letter to Dorothy and "Dorothy" wrote her a letter back
Great place for any fan of Oz, or museums in general
