REVIEWS OF National WWI Museum and Memorial IN Kansas

I wish it was more economical for families to enter the museum. Even veterans are $14, which isn't at all reasonable for many vets. They've earned the right to enter for free, or nearly free in my opinion. We have enjoyed the outdoor part, as it's a beautiful structure.

Jesse Sierks

Great museum! A lot of useful information, presented well, easy to understand. Good interactive exhibits, too.

Cherilyn Taylor

Amazing experience and a World Class WW1 museum. The abundance of artifacts is astounding and everything is arranged beautifully. I'm still in awe. Again, this is a World Class WW1 museum, so it's most definitely a must see.

Cathi La Sota

Make sure to give yourself time to see the whole space, including all 3 videos. Incredibly well curated. And they offer free guided tours that give a ton of information while still being entertaining.

Dennis Moriarty

The National WWI Memorial is a special treasure sited in Penn Valley Park just south of the equally magnificent Union Station..For me the Hall of Memories and it's amazing Panorama Painting..requiring 123 artists FOUR YEARS to capture all the participants at the dedication of this great Memorial in 1926.Veterans and Seniors are given discounts. Reg Adm $14 A priceless Memory

Elisie Fanaro

Great experience! Must sit through both short videos. Very educational and not very expensive experience!

Kayla Walker

Was a very fun and interesting experience. A lot of stuff to look at and explore. The website seemed like it gave the impression that it was free. But the price wasn’t too bad. The tower was closed due to weather. Would go back just to do that.

virginia lytle

This is a top notch attraction . Too much to take in in one visit. There are many historical items as well as excellent history lessons here. My favorite part is the trench recreation.

David Escagne

Love the history here. I have visited multiple times and love coming here and seeing all the guns, planes, uniforms and the tank on display. And especially the video they show.

Hannah McDonald

Was absolutely gorgeous. First time ever visiting and wish i had taken the time to before! Neat place. Nice scenary!

Halutz

Great view, plentiful of history. It is a must visit if you are in the area

Debbie Onos

What an amazing and cool museum! So much information packed into each little corner. It was a bit confusing to walk around and make sure to see everything, but still well displayed. The tower is really neat to go up into and makes for an amazing view from the top. Definitely a great place to visit but might be a bit tough with kids as there is a ton of information to read and take in

Janos Perkins

This is a fantastic museum with a lot of interactive exhibits and videos to introduce the subjects. I was a history major in college and I have visited the Imperial War Museum in London, so I was a little skeptical of a World War I museum in Kansas City. Nevertheless, I would say the museum is a beautiful space and very informative. If you are interested in WWI or if you are visiting KC, it is definitely worth a visit.

Roger DelCastillo

A true gem in Kansas City. An excellent collection of items and stories of World War 1. The staff are eager to give toy any and all information. Recommend it for anyone visiting KC.

Ty B

There are always new exhibits every few months. The museum is bigger than it seems with plenty to see over a few trips. Plan to spend a few hours there. The restaurant is also very good. Do yourself a favor and fill up before going in.

Mike Joyce

Very informative and interesting. Beautiful view of the sky line of Kansas City. A must see while in KC.

Connor Reed

One of the greatest museums of all time. It is so immersive and in-depth that it feels like it's dragging you back into the 1910s. Jaw dropping and shocking, I cannot recommend it enough.

Lala hatch

A most see. The tower amazing you can see all of kansas city from in top.

Robert Murray

Great layout and natural progression through the museum. Would definitely recommend and will hopefully come back. Need a minimum of two hours, but could easily spend all day there.

Josh Rodriquez

Clean, pristine, and something that is apart of us all that call this city,.. and this country home. For everyone that ever wondered what the true price of that cup of coffee was.. all you need in do is take a look and a walk through this place.. god bless and never forget your honored history...

Ted Conn

This is a beautifully unique memorial. Beautiful in that the building and grounds are wonderful examples of art deco design. Unique in that it's the only WWI museum in America. An excellently designed and executed museum, this place is well-worth spending a few hours of your time, soaking in the history and horror of the Great War.

dan summers

This is a must see destination for all who love history. Large presentation of WW1 items with written presentation for everyone. Don't miss the 217 foot tall tower and get an excellent view of the city and surrounding area. Located in Kansas City it will have to be on your list of places to stop and see. Several video presentations of the history surrounding the times and history of the war.

Kumar Kashyap

One of top attractions spots in Kansas city. I would suggest going there at night to see the city skyline and beautiful sunset.

Aprile Denny

My friend and I had no idea how much would be in the museum! It's worth it to buy the tower add-on for $5, as the view is excellent on a clear day. There is a lot of information which is well presented and the various artifacts are laid out well. A museum you should certainly visit. There is an excellent gift shop and a small cafe which serves several dishes. (Portions are small so order accordingly.)

Kim Circo

Excellent museum! Highly recommend going if you're in the Kansas City MO area. Take the kids for a lesson in history. Helpful and knowledgeable volunteers throughout museum. Be sure to take a look at the skyline behind the museum...also was luck to see holocaust memorial at museum.

mountain base farm

Beautiful museum. Great staff. Definitely worth a visit.

Bryan Wohlwend

An truly amazing museum. The monument has wonderful views of downtown. Proud to have the national WWI museum in KC!

Irene Shtrulis

Beautiful spot to pause, reflect and honor. Also a breathtaking view of the city (worth the vertical climb).

Tya Buie

I wish it was more economical for families to enter the museum. Even veterans are $14, which isn't at all reasonable for many vets. They've earned the right to enter for free, or nearly free in my opinion. We have enjoyed the outdoor part, as it's a beautiful structure.

Gautam Ankam

Very well maintained. Great spot to learn history and one of the few places that is dedicated to World War I

Patrick Troy

What a great experience! Forgot so much about the "Great War" & the causes of it. The information is provided in a variety of mediums & from many different angles. The artifacts are amazing & diverse. I particularly enjoyed the models & descriptions of the different styles of trench warfare. My wife enjoyed the private studios to listen to music of the time. The multimedia presentations provided information & clarification to the experience. The staff was friendly and informative & always willing to help. The exterior architecture was beautiful yet humbling & added to the somewhat somber experience. Get the tickets to the tower, it's worth it. The old elevator is awesome & the view is spectacular. There are e lot of stairs, just a heads up. If you're going to the WWI museum, you'll be right next to Union Station & The Crown Center. Check those out as well.

Dennis Buhr

Very nice, well laid out displays, short informative movies, friendly staff, interactive, well worth the admission. And the grounds were spectacular.

Jason Dahl

A sobering reminder of what this world has experienced 100 years ago. A beautiful but haunting place.

Rick Garcia

Fabulous, really enjoyed this museum... Very detailed, you could spent half a day here...

Mister Dilbert

This place is great! I absolutely loved it! Great for history nerds and for people who just want to see some amazing pieces of history! Must go see!

Linda Johnson

Excellent place very interesting staff is so helpful and courteous recommend it to anyone

thomas anderson

This is a great museum for a tremendous learning lesson about WWI and the people who fought in it. The interactive exhibits are some of the best I've ever been involved with. Highly encourage anyone with an interest in history to visit this museum.

Tracy Henrikson

Amazed at the Smithsonian quality of this historical gem. Cant believe I have never been here before. Very well done!

SPZ Aruba

If you need to get educated on WWI this is the place. There is no comparable WWI experience I have seen in the US or Europe. Take your time. And the cherry on top is you are centrally located to the old train depot and multiple top restaurants. This is an all day event.

Christine Theubet

Went twice while visiting. Remodeling is going to be perfect. The poppies sky walk....wow!

nathan sanderson

Very fair price ($15) compared to other museums I've been to recently. AMAZING VIEWS from base and top of the tower. (Tower climb additional $2)

Richard Banales

Great museum/ monument. Great exhibits countless information. I better understand how WWI began.

Pradeep Chaudhary

One of best museum and doing very good job towards it's objective. Very good informative session and artifacts of the war. Truly highlights devastating affects of war.

Walter Jones

We thoroughly enjoyed the museum, tour, artifacts and movies. The museum has come very far since our first visit 15 years ago.

Common Sense: Do it!

Man! I love this place. Great place for families and to just walk around. A lot to see, to educate and entertain the kids. Rich history that should never be forgotten. My family and I visit this place frequently. Not only to visit the museum, but most of the time to have picnics at the back-end on the grass which is graced with a spectacular view of downtown and crown station. Always a to go for me!

Jason Jones

And I'm not even a general history fan, but my tour guide was great, made the visit fun, interesting and insightful. Will be back once the kiddos are old enough to comprehend.

Chris Cardozo

What a great place. I didn't go up the tower. The journey through was amazing each turn was something new and exciting. The guides were bery helpful. A place to go back to again.

Chevelle Kauahipaula

It was a very educational experience. Loved every moment of it

Al Risden

This is one of my personal favorite places to visit and revisit in Kansas City, even as a long time resident. This is also one of the places I always take first time visitors to our area. There's enough history to keep one busy reading for quite a while. It's a place to learn, visit, take photos from our just sit and watch a sunset.

cecilia villalobos

This is one of my favorite museums. The attention to detail is great. The fantastic architecture is reminisce of a bunker buried into the side of a hill. There are tour options, but you can also follow the narrative at your own pace. There are so many relics to see. Everything is respectfully displayed and documented.

Kevin Keller

A top-tier historical museum, with a great collection of items, combined with well-written descriptions, all of it beautifully displayed. The staff is super-helpful and knowledgeable. We spent about 3 hours going through the exhibits; overall, a great way to spend an afternoon. I learned a lot about World War I. Our visit to the museum encouraged me to read more about this period in our history.

Larry Denger

I think many people often overlook visiting this museum altho they probably go past it on their visits to KC and don't know it exists. I'm glad I came! My only disappointment was I came on a Monday and apparently on Monday's, their archive section isn't open and I was hoping to read up on my grandfather's service in the war fighting in Europe.

Judy Harte

Interesting! You want information, this is the place to go. Lots to see, read and watch. We went into the tower. Nice view. The employees were really nice and very informative. Left for lunch then went back. A good place to spend time.

Jennifer Van Antwerp

Detailed, interesting history. Timelines, some artifacts, many photos, a few short films. We had planned to spend 3 hours ... We left after 3.5 hours because we couldn't absorb more... But we hadn't yet seen it all. Great city view from tower. Worth the extra 2 dollars if weather is fine. Go to The Money Museum (next door) first and at exit, complete survey on a computer for a buy one get one free admission coupon for WW I MUSEUM.

D Berg

A congressional act recognized the memorial and museum as the official US memorial to WWI. An extremely well done presentation of the cause of the war, the war years and post war. I was impressed with the weapons on war and the explanation of technological advancements during the war. A place the whole family should see as the war changed the world.

Jacob Klopfenstein

This museum is amazing. It is a must see for everyone old enough to be able to appreciate what happened in WWI. Sadly we had to leave, as they were closing, after spending an hour and a half inside. I would say that we gave maybe 1/3 of the pieces of the main exhibit their due diligence in reading about them. You could easily spend 4+ hours inside. Plus there is a tower outside you can go into (we did not). If you plan on going, be sure to go early to really be able to explore, learn, and enjoy a history less talked about (compared to WW2 at least)!

Common Sense: Do it!

jennifer johnson

It is VERY content rich so make sure you give yourself a lot of time. We spent about 2.5 hours there. We probably could have spent another hour.

Leslie Kelzenberg

My husband and I enjoyed the WW1 museum with our adult daughter. Plenty of volunteers to help answer questions and share stories. We spent three hours walking through. Visual and hands on, plenty to read-all at your own pace.

Tammy Barry

Amazing. Today was our 2nd time there. So much history - exhibits, photos, items. Lots of interactive exhibits, films, audio. We all learned so much. Nice cafe and gift shop. Clean. Helpful employees and volunteers. Highly recommend visiting this museum.

Bob Pelletier

An amazing experience. Staff was too notch. Friendly and informative.

Eliteshoe3000

The staff all seemed very devoted and enthusiastic in the museum which makes the overall experience much better. The tower they have was very scenic. Overall it was a good experience and definitely a great thing to do if you've got time in Kansas City.

Quentin Adams

Amazing!! Incredible overall experience. Huge and comprehensive collection, well organized, thoughtful. Completely worth going if any interest in history at all.

Valerie Neff

I loved the timeline they had, not only of the events of the war but other notable events happening in the world at that time. They had interactive table tops to enhance learning and creativity.

chad Pepper

An amazing place for the entire family. You can spend the entire day here. Movies, artifacts, and very knowledgeable staff. The cafe has very good food. On very hot days try to get there early, because sometimes the tower closes due to the heat.

Ryan Kerch

Fantastic museum. Tons of artifacts to look at. Lots of interactive and multimedia exhibits keep you engaged too. Very helpful and knowledgeable volunteer staff. Spent about three hours there, including a trip to the top of the monument.

Dane Hiatt

Absolutely worth a visit. The staff here believe in what they do and are more than happy to point out every way to make your visit better. While I had only a limited time to visit, I could have easily spent hours more examining the many artifacts. I left with a better understanding of the great war than I ever received in school. God bless America!

Becca Fredin

Such an incredible and moving place! It's easy to spend several hours here - we did and still didn't see everything. I particularly appreciated the uniforms and weapons from all of the different countries, and the lifesize trenches they'd built - I had no idea about the massive differences between German/French/British trench building. Maybe I missed it, but I was hoping to learn more about the chemical warfare part of the war - I didn't see as much about that as I thought I would. Still, this is one of the best museums I've ever been to.

William Rosen

When Obama spoke in 2008 it was amazing and he signed my friend Bukekas book.

William Volenec

If you start to think "There's nothing to do in Kansas City", you need to set aside a DAY to spend at the World War I Museum! EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about the first World War, from start to finish! The complete, factual history, the tools amd machines of this war, the attitudes and emotions of the warriors and their loved ones at home, static displays of what it was like to be caught-up in the horrors of war...EVERYTHING you ever wondered about World War I!! All presented as FACT; not colored by a perspective or opinion of war, but simply the story, as it played out. Beautifully displayed in a breathtaking museum and grounds that include a towering monument to those who fought, and those who died, in the service of our country! The view of downtown Kansas City, from atop the monument, is unparalleled!! K.C.'s World War I Museum is located on the edge of Crown Plaza, and is a "MUST SEE", especially if you live in K.C.!

Jenny Walker

This place is amazing! Such a sobering look into history. If you can see it, you definitely should!

Seth Fenby

So much cool history here! The only WW1 museum in the country. It was really neat

Ryan Jones

Very beautiful museum. The architecture is monolithic, yet beautiful. The museum itself is extremely informative and educational, exhibiting all sorts of weapons, uniforms, militaria, etc from all the forces involved in the fight. A very respectful tribute to America's WWI heroes.

Carissa Baker

Great place! Plan on several hours there. It is bigger than we expected. Lots of walking. Well done and the staff is extremely knowledgeable!

Stephen McBee

Wow! So powerful, so austere ( we’ll except for the yoga class being taught in one of the porches, but they were being quiet at least). I am proud to see what KC did in response to the sacrifices our men and women made for our freedom. If you have no connection to World War I then you need to see what was done for you, by people who didn’t even would know that you exist and give honor to their sacrifice. God bless America!

Guitar4Life

Place was really cool. It's cool to go to even if you don't have any money to get in there's a big balcony and you can see all of Kansas City. Great place for taking pictures it's a huge Park so they can just chill and have fun with friends. Highly recommended it.

james huang

Amazing monument and scenic place for any outdoor activity. Also located in a prime location near the train stop. Impeccable and god bless america!

Charlene Blockmon

Beautiful as always. Wonderful place to go to get a spectacular glimpse of the city. So clean, so peaceful. Nice place to take a nice walk, a getaway spot to relax and to take visitors from out of state.

Counter Riposte

Awesome displays of history and what we never want to do again.

Gary Cartwright

This museum helped connect me with my family’s past. My mother has a photo of my grandfather’s ship dry docked under repair for a torpedo blast in the bow of the ship. I have always been impressed with the photo and its circumstance. The Kansas City WWI Museum helps in the understanding and motivations of the war. Like other similar museums it leaves you with more information than when you enter but still leaves you wanting more.

Holly

The staff is extremely knowledgeable! Ask them questions, they'll be more than happy to talk

Barbara Conner

Beautiful setting inside and outside. Displays are truly incredible. History behind glass and details with history connections.

Roger Coleman

A must see!!! The timeline depicted throughout the museum is fascinating. Saw a lot of children here, not sure they could grasp the brutality of war, but the majority of them were intrigued by the diaplays.

Geo Patrick

We visited from Indiana - great museum with fantastic volunteer staff. The guided tour add so more to the whole museum experience. The tower view is incredible. The store has great items. Chicago has great museums -but WW I museum is a must to see and visit. Take the guided FREE tour to see it - absolutely worth - my 13 and 17 year loved it as much as I did.

Daniel Conlon

Very nice museums. You can spend all day there. Lots of stuff to look at and the staff is very knowledgeable and very friendly and helpful

Will Benner

I enjoyed my visit. Allow plenty of time for a visit. 1.5 hours wasn't enough. Pay attention to the causes of the war. The best way to avoid repeating the past is by learning about it.

Frank Lopez

The guided tour that I went on was phenomenal! The tour guide was both friendly and well informed, and any answer he didn't have was printed on one of all the very interesting wall graphics. Walking over the field of poppies was my favorite experience! Would definitely go again!

noa higgins

Wonderfull, and fun staff. Really cool exibits. Plenty to see, and could spend hours wondering the building.

Rachel Lin

Great view from the tower. An wonderful collection in the museum as well.

Jeremiah Avery

Lot of fun really did enjoy it. For someone like me who likes history I learned a lot, but even if you're not the biggest history person you will still find enjoyment out of the experience. Definitely an all day activity because of all there is to see, but even if you only have an hour or two to spare it is still worth a visit. If you are in the area you definitely want to check it out.

Maureen Elias

A humble and beautiful place to visit out Nation's history as well as Kansas City. In our two hours there, we saw eight bridal parties getting photographed. Make sure to buy a ticket to Ride the elevator to the top of the tower. The views are worth the wait. Note: you do need to climb 42 steps to get to the top after the elevator so no wheelchairs or scooters. There is so much to see. I suggest leaving at least 5 hours in your schedule for this visit. There isn't much for kids to do. There is a cafe that closes around 3pm.

Daryl Duwe

It's awesome. But plan on spending most of a day here. So much to absorb. Wear comfortable shoes!

Braden Solt

Great museum about the great war! Their gallery shows the uniforms, rifles, artillery, grenades, swords, and daggers used in the first full-blown modern war. The gallery is split in two halves with one half focusing on most of the war and the other half is all about American involvement. A quick walk through will take you 1-2 hr if you want to read everything plan for 3-4.

Jumelx Pluviose

Super cool place with lots of history! Didn't know it was such a big place. Outside its a great view and nice place to have a picnic. Didn't get to go in the tower yet but I have membership so I'll be going back to do it!!

Ashley Atondo

Amazing museum with an abundance of information! My husband loves history and he thought very highly of this place. We unfortunately only had a limited amount of time, but we were still here over three hours and easily could have stayed longer. The artifacts were great to see, and the films were fantastic. It is all put together so well, and it is extremely informative and enlightening. Definitely worth visiting!

Doc Molstad

Could easily spend a full day here. They have a very helpful staff that can help direct you through the self-guided displays. There is a lot to read (timelines, display descriptions, etc.), as well as interactive computers, but the videos made it seem less overwhelming. The cafe is also very nice with very good food. All in all, a great experience!

Spoils Maggoo

Way better than I expected. The museum is bigger than I thought it would be and really cool. The kids didn't like it we should have left them at home but I didn't expect to want to stay very long so I guess we will know better next time. If you go up in the tower go before it gets hot so you aren't standing in line in the heat and the tower is not air-conditioned either so it's best to do that part early. The kids did like the tower quite a bit.

B J Medlam

Well worth the admission and more. Great artifacts and displays explaining WWI, when & how the U.S. became involved. Not taught in our schools, but everyone should learn more, understand the changes brought about, and take a hard look at our world today. Awesome museum.

Malachi Nyhuis

Absolutely the best Museum I have ever been to. The entrance fee is $18 for adults and I would definitely recommend you pay the extra $2 to go up the tower. Additionally, I would recommend taking a guided tour as there is so much history packed in here that you just won't see or appreciate otherwise. You will never regret this visit.

Eddis Goodale

This has to be one of the most fascinating and poignant museums in America. The wealth of information presented guarantees that every patron will learn a lot about "The Great War." The variety of presentation methods is impressive. Videos, reflection booths, interactive tables, enormous and uncountable weapons and other war-related artifacts and clothing, historic photos, propaganda posters, 3D vignettes, full-scale vehicles and replicas, a full wartime timeline, painted murals, a horizon-expanding view tower. No matter what display method or WWI-related subject captures your imagination, this museum will fulfill and likely exceed, your expectations. This is not to be missed if you are in or anywhere near Kansas City.

Carla Arndt

Wanted very much to visit The WW1 Museum and Memorial before we head back home. Glad we were able to add it to our itinerary. There is a lot to see there. So much information if which we were unaware. So amazing felt like we were back in time. Our way of paying respect for the brave Americans and our allies for their resolve in not letting tyranny triumph!

Travis Propes

One of the best museums I've had the pleasure of attending. Well worth the visit if you're in Kansas City.

Jim Keats

Very impressive collection and presentation of artifacts. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful. My only complaint is that the glass cases protecting the artifacts don't work well with the lighting. Taking pictures of items was very difficult.

Annette Severson

The artifacts are exceptional. Great use of multimedia displays. I have a new appreciation for poppies!

ALPA CHINO

A must see attraction if you visit KC! Located near Union station, a brilliant, and beautiful landmark, built to show love, praise, and the devotion of a grateful nation;to the memories of the veterans, living and dead, of one of the most defining moments in modern American History. Visit this shrine, and appreciate the awesome sacrifice of a past, and gone American Generation.

Rachel Kenigsberg

Superb! Phenomenal display of history. Trained staff enabled ease of navigating the museum with extra bits of interesting information.

Sadia M

A beautiful and highly educational museum. Gorgeous views of the entire city at the top of the tower. I only wish I had more time. Definitely pencil out a whole morning or more to see this place.

Jeff Cook

Would spend all day here if I could. One of the better museums that I've visited.

D Johnson

Wow... so much to see. Allow a few hours to see it all, more if you want to read everything. Very nice museum.

Connie Gill

Sooo much information will need another visit. Lots of docents to help with information. WWI got lost in the shuffle of the history books so it much was taught but this has anything you want to know. If you are a history buff, military junkie, curious about this era or just want to know more I would highly recommend this museum.

Jason Puett

Wonderful exhibits showing items from WWI, great views from the top of the tower (included with admission, or you can just purchase a ticket for the tower).

Pratik Desai

Beautifully done monument for such a tragic event in our history. The view of KC is great and the Federal Reserve is at the entrance. Make sure to park far away and walk up to the monument, its an experience.

Shamus OKingsley

Amazing museum, you must go! Take your time and go up in the tower, it is a great view of KCMO! I have been to this museum six times and I still haven't seen everything.

jerry thompson

Excellent museum. Very well done. You must get the audio phone when you go, really makes experience much better. Learned more there than my entire schooling career.

jill floden

Great place to visit and an incredible history treasure of artifacts to learn from. I wish they had more interactive learning for kids & teens which would've earned it the full 5. Us adults could spend the day, but not the full family.

Tanvi Kanthe

Awesome place. The museum is, of course, great, and wonderful. But I was delighted by the beauty of the memorial. We went to the height at 275m. And saw a wonderful delighted scenery. We just couldn't stop taking pictures. A great tourist place to visit, in Kansas City.

Tyler Thompson

One of the hidden gems of Kansas City. Many people don't realize there is a whole park here, allowing you to tour the museum on multiple floors, take a ride up to the top of the tower (weather permitting), and see beautiful views of downtown Kansas City all from one spot. They frequently host events that are free to the public and educational. Highly recommend.

Brian Batchelor

Very informative. A trip down history lane. The tower is amazing and a great view.

George Vlahakis

One of the best history museums I have ever been to. This is a must visit for anybody in Kansas City for a day. this museum has great artifacts that you can see very close up. The museum is not too big or overwhelming.

Paul Haushalter

This was an amazing museum and a tribute to the men who served in World War I. Thank you Kansas City for acting fast and raising funds to build this memorial. In a matter of ten days after the WWI kids who raised 2.5 million for this memorial. I loved this and myself and my kids learned a lot about our brave men and women of this country and others.

Ann Engel

What a beautiful museum. The connection was extensive and one of the most informative war museums I have ever seen. Well worth the trip.

Juli Copple

Dave was a great hostess. He was very descriptive. Enjoyed my visit.

Janice Panus

What an amazing museum. And right on our own backyard. So many details and artifacts. The story of the war...amazing history to learn. Tragic and all so surreal

Jacob Alvarado Garcia

A museum about everything and anything that has happened during World War 1 and what weapons and uniforms they use and wear. The museum also has a tower where you go all the way up the elevator and you can see everything below you I recommend this place if you wanna get out and do something for yourself and learn something. 100/100

Julie Perry

One of Kansas City's best museums! Very neat exhibits, films, and displays. The docents and museum's personnel are very helpful and knowledgeable. A great place to tour with a very scenic overlook of the KC cityscape. We brought visitors from out of town...and they were all impressed with this fabulous museum and it's quality exhibits!

Matt Moore

Take your kids to learn about WW1. Awesome experience and best thing to do in KC.

Greg Schuyler

I didn't buy a ticket for the museum, just the tower which was a great choice. Best view of the city at the top of the tower. Must see if visiting Kansas City!

John Heck

This was an amazing Musemum to see the history of WWI and the how the war transpired and the personal, equipment and countries involved. The poppy field as you first walk in beneath the glass bridge is a powerful site. The tower provides breathtaking views of the city and the groups are well maintained and beautiful. This is a must do if you are in the area.

Amy Rowan

Beautiful and awe-inspiring. We love museums, but this one was better than most. From the intro video to the hand-painted maps, this museum is unique and was worth every penny and minute spent.

The exterior areas of the building are stunning. The walk up to the front entrance is very cool and wheelchair accessible. The view of the skyline from the base of the tower area is impressive. The exhibition area is a little confusing -there are three areas where there are exhibits for the general admission fee -the right tower [Memory Hall] was full of information about local fallen soldiers and had lots of images and information about the impact of the War in France. The main exhibit had lots of good material and information about the players in the war. I did not make it to the left tower exhibit hall. There are special exhibits also that you need to pay for to enter on top of the general admission fee. It cost me $18.00 for a general admission pass and that is a pretty steep fee. I do think that the memorial is worth going to and supporting [and I am from the DC area so I am spoiled by the Smithsonian] but $18.00 is a lot. If you just want to go up to the top of the tower you can do that for $5.00 -or go up with a discounted fee ($2.00 I think) if you want to go up the tower in addition to the general pass. **The tower is NOT handicapped accessible or for the faint of heart or for those uncomfortable in tight spaces -the observation deck is barely wide enough for one person to pass by someone else with their back to the wall. ** With that being said it was quite the view. Even though we lasted about 10 minutes.

Truly has the the best workers who are passionate about sharing information with us! A good dive back into the past with the rare and interesting artifacts.

Denise Snyder

Excellent museum. Intense subject matter. If you are interested in WW1 this is the only one in the country. Can take a ride to the top of the tower and lookout over Kansas City. Worth the couple extra bucks.

Elizabeth Storm

Incredible place to visit. Really you need several visits to take in all the info. Even for kiddos, there are interactive displays, video, and great photography. A KC must!

Shaon D.

It’s a great building. The structure is massive. And the view of Kansas City from top is absolutely awesome. But D.C. has made me spoiled and I don’t want to pay for museum anymore!

Elbert Derrick

Too much to cover in one day. Information overload. Makes you remember a lot of history. Wonderful experience.

oscar vizcarra

I have went 2 times it’s very good but i rated 4 because on first we only got to the gift shop cause it was too hot in the actual museum also I like the gift shop because it showed me a new brand of toy soldiers called armies in plastic and i LOVE toy soldiers

Taralynne Edwards

We enjoy visiting museums and my husband is a bit of a WWI history buff. We found this museum to be well laid out, full of interesting artifacts, and well worth the cost of admission, which was quite low. The view from the top of the tower is breathtaking. The staff were all quite knowledgeable and very friendly.

Mark Wood

Greatest museum I have ever visited. So much history captured in one giant exhibit. Plan on two days if you really want to see it in it's entirety. The staff, volunteers, are friendly and very knowledgeable. A must see.

Deborah Everson

This was a beautiful Memorial and museum. We took the tour and are so glad we did. So many good facts we would have missed had we not taken the tour. We spent most of the day here. Loved.

Elizabeth Turk

Full of information and very moving. There is an inside and outside area, as well as the tower and 2 buildings on too. The tower offers great panoramic views of Kansas city!

Benjamin De Jesus

Sadly I had only one hour to visit this place so I didn't managed to enjoy the full museum. From what I gathered in my quick run it was amazing all the WWI stuff that is in this museum.

SteelersFanMark

Absolutely a must see in KC area. Wonderful exhibits full of history. I liked that the museum has different themes over the year. Too bad I'm not from the KC area!! The cafe was nice, I ate the WW1 soldier special with the 4 different entrees representative of that time era. It was okay, but I wanted to experience it. The gift shop was large and well stocked. I'm a history buff and especially US military/wars so I loved this place. Plan on half a day, unless you just breeze through these types of museums.

bobby

Great staff and such an amazing view from the tower. The museum itself does an amazing job of really showing how the great war was a horrible experience for many people. It has a lot to see and the prices are very fair for how much you get to see. Definitely worth seeing!

Nehal Mishra

This is very beautiful place to walk except during winter. Fall colors are good around Oct.

Matt Brown

Amazingly well presented museum with very rich content. Informative.

Fred Hudson

The museum itself is wonderful, it's an incredible display of history. My family really enjoyed the visit. It's worth the time spent to go through it. I was impressed by the staff, very knowledgeable and eager to help you learn more and enjoy your experience there! I highly recommend it

B J Medlam

Well worth the admission and more. Great artifacts and displays explaining WWI, when & how the U.S. became involved. Not taught in our schools, but everyone should learn more, understand the changes brought about, and take a hard look at our world today. Awesome museum.

Nine2-5traveler

WOW! What an amazing tribute and memorial to the thousands of people impacted by WWI. This place is incredible. WWI spanned across many nations and provided a glimmer of hope to millions of people. Some, unfortunately too late, and others I imagine it seemed a life time before help arrived. You must visit if you're in KC.

Ace

A great tribute to all those who served and died in WWI. Great collections and pieces. Really well made descriptions. The journey that the tour takes you on is very informative. Thank you for also having veterans working at your museum!

Veronica Ordaz

Probably one of the best museums I've been to, military history or otherwise. There is so much to take in this is definitely a 2 day experience. If you want to go up to the tower go early, it's got limited space and is much more peaceful when you aren't having to maneuver around people.

Kenne English

Brilliant museum honoring those that fought in WWI. The amount of info and artifacts here are mind blowing. Very impressive collection showcasing the war. So much history and information in one place is incredible. I also bought the tickets to ride to the top of the monument. You really feel high up when you get to the top. Nice view of Kansas city from there. Its worth the visit and admission. Must see if you're in town.

Jon Tenca

Highly highly highly recommend going the the museum. It's one of the coolest experiences you can do in Kansas City and you could spend hours in there. I was there upwards of four hours with all of the information and things available to see. Definitely spend the little bit extra and go up in the tower as well for a beautiful view of Kansas City

Barbara Short

Great place to visit, lots to see if you enjoy history, spend the time to see it all. Also, great area to walk around.

Cyrus Buhari

This museum is absolutely wonderful. A fantastic place to learn about our country's and the world's history. The technology used to illustrate the war is great and adds to the experience. This museum truly is an experience that all American families should have.

Mark Richards

This museum is beautiful and very enlightening. The view from the tower is great, too.

Pamela

Incredible and beautiful museum. The staff is caring and very knowledgeable. Price was great, exhibits were informative and well laid out. Thank you!

Katrina Langham

I went to this museum a few years back and forgot to review, but it really is tremendous and moving. Does a great job with not only covering the timeline of events and number of dead, but also dives deep into why WWI happened. Take the time to visit, honor the fallen, and have a tough conversation with yourself about nationalism. The museum is located in this lovely park like setting. Seemed very family friendly and safe. Great community atmosphere!

Leslie Tipton

This is one amazing historical museum! Absolutely loved the history. It was full of so many pieces from the era that allowed you to step back in time. The breakout pods to listen to music and poetry from the era were wonderful. They were extremely accommodating by giving a free scooter to an elderly relative who would struggle walking the museum allowing him to really enjoy the experience. You must pay the extra 5$ to go in the tower elevator. The view of KC is spectacular.

Tim Whitley

This museum does a great job covering this time period with lots of exhibits and several interactive stations. In addition, the views of the city are really nice from the tower and the tower plaza. Well worth the visit. I’d give it a few hours in your planning. Parking is free. Also, the cafe closes at 3 so grab your coffee before then.

Phil Gravel

The National WWI Museum and Memorial is a true gem. World War I seems to be the forgotten war and this museum brings its history to the fore. The museum has hundreds of artifacts from the war and does a splendid job of telling the story of WWI. The layout of the museum wasn’t obvious to me even with a map. There are many volunteers around so be sure to talk to one about how to tour the museum. For me it started with watching the movie in the theater; describes what is taking place in Europe and how that has led to fears of a war. From there, I went to the East Gallery which discusses how the war started in 1914 and how it played into 1917. Next was the Horizon Theater which discusses the state of the war in Europe at that time and what was transpiring in the United States. Finally, the West Gallery discuss the war from the entry of the United States to the signing of the armistice which ended hostilities. Each gallery is loaded with exhibits which are described and related to the war effort. A detailed timeline describes the major battles of the war and coincident social events such as peace marches, labor strikes, food riots, etc. A special exhibit shows the kind of crater that would have been formed by the bombardment of the largest artillery shells. If you’re in the Kansas City area, be sure to visit the National WWI Museum and Memorial – you will find it time well spent. I’ve also visited the National WWII Museum in New Orleans and this one is comparable.

Jeremy Spring

Amazing museum. Thank you for a place that I can educate my kids on the horrors of our past.

Mark Muchow

Huge museum, very informative, and the $2 to go to the top of the tower gives you a great view of KC! We spent a couple hours there and only seen half of it....depending on how much you read!

G Lin

It should be a must go, if not the contents of the museum, just for the tower to have a bird eye view of the city. You will understand the history of the city much better after you see the whole city from above

John Cochran

Awesome experience. This is the second time we've been there since a year ago. Both times we've come away feeling profound about this history. Based on these experiences we want to visit the National WWII museum, the Civil War Museum, the Vietnam War museum and the American Revolutionary War museum.

Kathy Moore

This is one of the best military type museums I have gone too. they had everything from original uniforms from all participants in WW I. they said they only had about 10 % of the artifacts on display at one time. they have tons in storage that they cycle out every now and then. the movies were great that told you about different battles and timelines in the war from how it started with the assignation of the arch duke to how it ended with the treaty. a must for any history buff or military aficionado.

Benjamin Wolf

Real national treasure. The exhibits were fantastic. The presentation was concise, accessible and thorough. Sadly I came too late in the day so I had to skip over the 2nd half of the main museum, although that is the part of the war I'm more familiar with. The two upstairs exhibits are compact and worth it. The tower was very busy later in the day, but we returned the next day for the tower only and the trip down had a longer wait than the trip up. I highly recommend doing the tower earlier rather than later, as we would have been in line over 30 minutes each way for a very small space upstairs. Also anyone with vertigo may want to skip, as it triggered my Wife and she isn't very sensitive. Overall I could have spent a solid three hours maybe more!

Tom Servo

You can send an entire afternoon looking through everything. Huge amount of historical artifacts. When you walk in you can literally smell the history. It really drives home how brutal, tragic, and unnecessary WW1 was. Great views from the tower, no waiting, and very helpful, knowledgeable, polite staff. Took my German family that said it was a great experience.

Joseph Lopez

We attend celebration at the station just about every year and it’s always a great day. Kids love throwing the ball around and playing in the grass. We take a blanket and food with drinks turns into a nice picnic. The Kansas City Symphony plays great Americana songs. If you’ve never been I suggest it for sure. The museum is a must do in town. Such a wonderful museum to spend your day. It makes you really remember and thank the heroes of our nation and why we live in the greatest country in the world! Thanks for keeping this museum going and making us prouder of our nation and city!

Mister Jon

Incredible experience. The guided tour was a must. Guide was very knowledgeable about history and really made the experience noteworthy. Make sure to pay the extra $2 to go up the elevator in the tower. It's a great view of the city. There are two exhibit halls near the tower that you should make sure to see. Some of the old photographs really illustrate the massive destruction that occurred in Europe during the war.

Allan Liefer

I love this museum. I have gone back to Kansas City several times, and each time I visit this museum. The last time my two sons went with me, and we were there from standing in line for them to open until they closed the doors in the afternoon. This is just a wonderful WWI Museum.

Guy

Humbling but inspiring, this monument is full of exciting exhibits and informative displays. I would rate this as over of the best war memorials in America, right up there with Pearl Harbor.

Garrett Hartman

One of my favorite museums to ever go to. This museum has so much stuff from WW1 to offer. Tanks, planes, guns, uniforms, trucks; it's all pretty amazing. Definitely a great place to go to if you are a student of history.

Matthew Kincaid

One of the most unique and valuable assets of Kansas City. Historic, unique, moving. Full of information, an enlightening experience. As a Kansas Citian, I think this may be one of the most underrated attractions we have. This is a national landmark. As I understand its history, both Calvin Coolidge and Harry S. Truman (future U.S. Presidents, in case you didn't know...) were participants in its groundbreaking.

Rachel Stoessel

Impressive Museum. Good information, I especially liked the reflection boxes. Listening to poem's and real people talking about WWI.

Mike O

The main building is cool but don’t forget to check out the two halls (memory and exhibit hall i believe they’re called) that are accessible only from the outside with the tower separating them. I actually preferred these two buildings over the main hall because there was less people and it had more of a 1910-1920s feel to it.

Logan Bagley

We learned so much and strongly advise that anyone who can should get a multi visit pass so they can see this in phases. Too much for us to see in one visit.

Becky Nichols

Fabulous museum, interesting balanced, history lessons. It explains really well the changing sociological landscape of Europe prior to WW1 and the changes the happened during and after. The tower was a treat and worth adding to the cost of the ticket. I was there noon to 5 and didn't see it all. Give yourself lots of time if you love history.

Sherie Loverkamp

Great museum! Staff were all very friendly and helpful. My husband, son and I all enjoyed walking through and reading/looking at the exhibits. Well worth the time and money to stop by. My son had just studied this war in school so he was spouting off facts and information, makes a momma happy to know her kiddo listens in school

Paul McKinney

Wonderful memorial to World War One. Very informative displays and short films.

Josh E.

Pretty cool museum. This war has been over for a century now but still interesting to learn about our history.

Cathie Halle

A tremendous tribute to the greatest generation! Tickets are good for two consecutive days, plan on going both days. So much information! Beautifully displayed! A MUST SEE in Kansas City!

Dennis Garrett

This is definitely worth the trip no matter where you are coming from! Tons of historical data, exhibits and artifacts of The Great War. We spent pretty much the complete day while taking a fairly thorough view of everything. There are several films that are both informative as well as awe-inspiring. The staff are super helpful and obviously well versed on the events of the war. The exhibits are not only focused on American involvement, but the causes and effects from all participants of the war. A visit to the tower is for sure the best view in all of KC! It won't disappoint. Views are incredible! KC is truly lucky to have this memorial-museum...and I am fortunate to have visited it. Again, make the trip if you're the least bit interested in WWI and our country's history!

Chris Sotraidis

A must see museum and probably one of the best if not the best American WWI memorials and museums. The collection and layout is thoughtful and detailed, and you could easily return multiple times and still not catch it all. A mind-boggling amount of information and artifacts from the war. The museum puts America's involvement in the war into consideration throughout, and the details provided for the equipment is bar none. I've never been more impressed by a war museum.

Titus Nissen

This is the best museum I have ever seen. It really made me realize how bad ww1 was and how it affected us today. The staff was great. It would be a nice place to visit when you have nothing to do.

Emory Pueschel

This is a beautiful museum. Informative, engaging, and respectful. Staff and volunteers were helpful and knowledgeable. Best to go no later than 3pm as the full tour takes about 2 hours.

Chris Hayes

Fantastic museum. Full of hundreds of WWI artifacts, uniforms, guns, and tanks. A must see if you're in KC or love history. The bottom floor has a historic library as well.

Veronica Ordaz

Probably one of the best museums I've been to, military history or otherwise. There is so much to take in this is definitely a 2 day experience. If you want to go up to the tower go early, it's got limited space and is much more peaceful when you aren't having to maneuver around people.

Nice view of Kansas city from there. Its worth the visit and admission. Must see if you're in town.

Noah Roerig

One of the best museums I have ever visited and I am a huge history buff! I only spent a few hours there when I could have spent days. Very informative and educational and a must-see when visiting Kansas City!

Rakesh Arjun

Beautiful location. Can view the city skyline from here!

Chris Classen

This truly takes two days to see everything. A very impressive exhibit. So much to take in. Really enjoyed this museum.

Kaitlyn Gonzalez

This place was so cool! Their displays are very thorough and in detail. As a 3rd generation female veteran, myself, I loved the inclusion of where women were allowed to serve within the armed forces during world war 1. Many military museums tend to gloss over female service members, so to see a fairly large section dedicated to women veterans was exciting. The textile exhibit was very interesting as well, and worth visiting as an extension of the museum.

Patty Riske

Somber, thoughtful, educational, and beautiful. The Kansas City people have an impressive museum and the monument is wonderful. This is worth your time and money! Thank you for remembering our World War 1 vets.

Walter Frankiewicz

It’s hard to believe that this national Museum exists in the middle of Kansas City. It’s on par with or better than any of the national museums found in Washington DC and it has great meaning and connectivity to the veterans of World War I. One actually can experience living in the war era and environment through a visit to this museum. Awsome and a great view from the top of the monument of the entire Kansas City area.

corinne lattimer

Wow! A wonderful retelling of history explaining the catalyst and the domino effect, taking no sides. Great combination of personal effects, photos, and creatively emotive, digital, and immersive displays. A must see!

Susan Ikazaki

Don't take this gem for granted. During centennial celebration of end of WWI, the museum had a continuously running large-scale image of luminous red poppies covering the entire north wall of memorial (facing Union Station). The image parted regularly to show a sequence of WWI photos and quotes. Bravo!

camp pieri

Great place to see all the WWI weapons and equipment this is the only one in the country very interesting.

Hannah Holmes

Even if you don't buy tickets to the museum, it is worth it to come here to admire the architecture. Also, you'll find the absolute best view of the Kansas City skyline!

John Saenz

A wonderful exhibit of WW1. The self guided audio tour is worth the extra expense. It's a beautiful memorial and an emotional step back into history.

Lance Clark

Very cool place to visit. I recommend the tower. It will take most of the day to read everything that is there

Brett R

It was very informative and eye opening, as I knew much less than I even realized about the first world war. The only complaint I have, as a veteran of the United States Air Force, is that there isn't much of a discount for veterans. I think, as a national museum that basically pays homage to one of our country's military accomplishments and memorializes those young men who gave their lives serving their country, a veteran should receive more of a discount than a senior citizen. I realize that this is a biased opinion, which I try to avoid when publicly sharing my rating of any esablishment, but other than that one issue, the staff were very friendly, the air conditioner was excellent, and the displays were nicely put together. I could likely go 5 times and notice something new each time i went.

Denise Sanders

Very well done and worth the entrance price. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra to do the tower experience. Beautiful views of the downtown KC metro area.
