REVIEWS OF Museum at Prairiefire IN Kansas

Daniel Simmons

Good stop for a quick outing with the family. Highly recommended for younger kids that are in their dinosaur phase! Lots of hands on things for the kids. The museum is small enough to get through in a day without feeling like you were rushed.

Brenda Chezek

This is a great hands on museum in the upstairs section which also has some reptiles and insects. The architecture is beautiful. You can do the entire museum in less than 2 hours then eat at one of the near by restaurants. The guides are excellent and enjoy educating people on the exhibits.

Christoforo Morin

The exterior architecture of this museum is a must see. Gorgeous technicolor that shines bright even on a cloudy day. Our grand-babies love to visit to enjoy special exhibits (they just had one on dinosaurs) and there's a hands on learning area on the second floor. We enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit. They had a great exhibit from New York on hand. We really loved the outside of the building.

Rebecca Propst

The outside is gorgeous! The hands-on room is great fun and the virtual ride on the space shuttle was superb! The Apollo display was very informative.

Diana Anderson

Not a big museum. Cost 10 dollar for audult 5 for children. Can see whole museum in under 30 minute. Not a lot for your money.

Will Whiting

It was kinda small but my son had a blast playing in the discovery room area. Totally worth the time.

Marilyn Anderson

Very good for younger children. The theater is by appointment only. Everything is a replica.

Sandra Stoops

I would recommend taking children if you go. Lots of interactive displays geared for children but I also enjoyed them. Parking garage there with restaurants for all ages.

Jared Pointer

This place is absolute beautiful! We were only there to take our fall family pictures with the amazing stained glass as a backdrop, but we will definitely be back many more times. Anyone looking for an amazing photo op or a beautiful backdrop for portraits, look no further! You will not be disappointed!

J. Morey

Great place for kids to learn

Amanda Medlock

I am a wedding planner and coordinated a wedding at the Museum at Prairiefire this past weekend. The staff was absolutely fantastic. Terri, Lori, and Jeff go above and beyond to help you in any way possible. I would HIGHLY recommend choosing this venue if you want a smooth and phenomenal wedding day!

Ted Young

Really great space, $50 annual memberships!

Estella Ramirez

If you have toddlers and are thinking of family outings do not waste your time at this place. My family took our son in a stroller and the front handicap door would not work. Then the staff were so rude upon entering. The scruffy male with glasses behind the front desk called us stupid “under his breath” while the other lady checked us in. The know-it-all, younger woman with the bob upstairs laughed as my son tripped and fell in the hands on room. Overall, I would not recommend as it was a waste of money. We were in town visiting family and we definitely won’t be going back. The employees were extremely stuck up and made the entire experience unpleasant with their attitudes.

Lil T

I had lots of fun with my family!!!

Heather Ducote

My kids really enjoyed the discovery room upstairs. They loved all the hands-on science. The Savage Seas exhibit was well put together. And the building itself is beautiful. Only reason I give it 4 stars is because it's kinda small for the entrance fee. But my kids had fun.

Kyle Sample

First time visiting right before close, the lady at the front was super kind and set us up with a free pass! Definitely will be going back to see parts I missed the first time.

Tina Pellerito

The price was really cheap. It was a pretty short visit. The building itself was nice to see. Enjoyed the Ancient Seas exhibit, and my grandson who's 14 enjoyed the VR exhibits. Other than that, there's not much to else to do unless you have small children who would enjoy the hands on area upstairs.

Donald Gueltzau

Great fun for the entire family, new things around every corner And non stop fun

Cynthia McLean

Our 3 yo great-grandson loves the interactive dinosaur exhibit. Over and over he wants to create a creature and run to watch it move across the screen. We playfully scream and sheild ourselves from being splashed or stomped on. We go often especially when the weather is bad because he can have fun and be active.

Angela Deckman

Food and proportions were excellent!!!

Brooklyn Hawkins

Suuuuuch a cool museum

Shannon Riordan

A great place for families! We've also attended this as an event venue in Overland Park for an anniversary celebration. It is a beautiful building and neat facility.

cheyenne tooker

It's so beautiful and free its worth going to with your family or friends

Graciela Pacheco

Didn't get tho see the inside but the outside alone is spectacular!

Kyle Underhill

Super fun. Great for a family outting

Angeline Smith

Great!!! Well presented. Worth the time. Very informative and great staff. The entomologist answered my son's questions very patiently.

Brisa Menjivar

The building itself is gorgeous. Sadly the main exhibit was closed.

Simply Shannan

Beautiful place, a must see even if it's a road trip .the glass mosaic Windows is just amassing..

Victoria Patton

Absolutely beautiful! My kids loved the VR experience and Discovery Room (we spent a lot of time in there). There was a lot to explore and even more to learn about.

Elizabeth Hall

Celebrating the partnership of KidsTLC and Museum at Prairiefire! @kidstlc

Terry dueringer

Could spend the whole day here, great Charles Darwin exhibit!!

Abigail Harrison

This is a great "get out of the house" opportunity for the little ones. The size of this museum creates a long enough visit that is not too overwhelming. My 4 year old was very interested in the skeletons on the lower level. The top level has an activity area where the kids can learn. There are dinosaur puzzles, a dig pit, live animals, and much more. Expect to spend 1-1.5 hours here. The location is convenient. There are other things nearby to make this part of a day-trip.

R H

I take my girls here often they have all kinds of cool learning centers for kids and also have a monthly learning programs for members. A would suggest paying for a yearly membership it's a great place for cold days and hot days when your kids are restless and need something to do.

Elizabeth Griffith

Great place to explore with our senses. Very kid friendly. Probably best for 3+ but great for littler ones too.

Tara Shipley

My 7 year old son loves the dinosaur design tool. There is one room that kept the kids busy for a half hour but we probably didn't take more than an hour or an hour and a half to be done. Fun and a great location but I had hoped it was a little bigger.

Picture Taker

It was a great museum, mostly about dinosaur. A great way to spend an afternoon.

Jeffrey Parrish

This is a first rate museum with a focus on dinosaurs. The exhibits are excellent. The staff is courteous, friendly and helpful. The only weakness is the smaller size of the museum. It has a hands-on area for kids upstairs. It is better suited for big kids than for adults.

dalia pan

Great for dinosaur lovers! Lot of details about dinosaurs and other fossils. Some fossils local to Kansas. It’s a great place for kids - so many activities, few live animals and few movies. For adults, it’s worth seeing it once. The outside is beautiful!

leeann clegg

Was very cool. The grandkids loved the things to touch and feel. The 3 d is very cool. Love that military families count here. A great place parking great. Staff very friendly.

Catalina Rabinovich

Beautiful, beautiful building. My kids had a great time. My only complaint would be that I wished it were bigger!

Latoya Woods

For the price they charge it could be so much better. I think they use to have a restaurant in there or maybe they need one. It's dry.

Lyndsay Wright

The Discovery Room (upstairs) is amazing for kids, probably about age 2 and older. There are hands-on activities relating to paleontology, astronomy, zoology, herpetology, geology, cultures and traditions around the world, and more. The children are encouraged to touch things and open drawers to discover things. The exhibits we have seen downstairs in the gallery have been very nice.

lolojoe101

Well, they had one ok gallery and an eye catching facade, but the minimal offerings were NOT worth the 10$ adult ticket price.

B Earl

First time visiting. My almost 3 and 13 year old had a blast! We were there 2 hours but could have stayed longer in discovery zone.

Amanda

Beautiful place! We had a lot of fun.

Khali Thorne

Small boutique museum in an area they seem to be trying hard to turn 'arty'. They advertise model skeletons as if they were genuine fossils. That said, it's the right size for small children and there's a good hands on area.

Christopher McGinley

Attended a wedding reception here. The facility is beautiful. We thought it was a perfect venue with friendly staff

Mary Reas-Oden

Awesome museum! Virtual reality experience of a space station, wonderful exhibits that teach in engaging, clear, very exciting and fun ways, beautiful art and displays. Also, the interactive part for the kids upstairs featured lots of puzzle-style exploring (like the dino skeleton in the picture!), live animals (including hissing cockroaches you can hold), a mask collection, and so much more. Plus, staff is friendly and great. Go enjoy!

Christopher Kuehne

Very nice establishment! Cimpared to huge museums this is probably the perfect size for any child under the age of 7. Not to big that it takes for ever to go through and they get distracted and not to small that they lose interest. Really enjoyed our time there and right after hit the resturaunts.

Queen O.

Went for a 2 year old birthday.

james fryer

Awesome experience. I recommend if you have children to bring them. Very kid friendly

Ashli Linhart

Great place to take the kids on a hot summer day. Really interactive

Rekha Hebballi

Very nice place spend a day with kids. Staff is very friendly. Great place for learning many things

Deborah League

Exhibit was smaller than expected but really cool. The discovery zone was great. My daughter loved the zoologist working there.

Leisa Daniel

Excellent place for hands on learning for children. Jess Pettit was especially nice and helpful. All the staff were so patient and encouraging to the kids. My grandson loved his visit and is still talking about the things he did there.

Christa Hinkle

Very cool place! It is free for part of the exhibits. Worth the visit!

Kadie Crivello

Incredible displays of natural Kansas history. Live animals and virtual reality. Gorgeous building!

Ryan Parker

Love learning about the giant reptiles and fish of the ancient world. This exhibit had loads of great info about the old ocean that covered the US, and also how scientists reconstructed their lives.

Rahul Roy

What a cool place! My toddler loved the discovery room...3 hrs of excavating, trying on masks, petting hissing cockroaches, watching insects and drawing constellations. Also getting to name your virtual dinosaur and meet it was pretty cool!

Andrew Maxwell

Nice building, cool exhibits.

Martin Hooks

My aunt from Chicago loved it and so did I.

Dave Lange

Awesome! Highly recommended. Great kids’ area upstairs.

Chris Wood

Very cool place especially the V.R.

Adrian Griffis

It's kind of small but it has a large T-Rex skeleton and various other educational exhibits. It's worth visiting, even if it's small for a museum.

J H

First thing this museum believe and teachers evolution. We do not believe in that, so we didn't spend much time in there but even if we did believe in evolution, I really don't think it worth the price. The museum is very small, but the outside of it is very beautiful, nice for pictures.

anil kumar

Kids will love it. Small but a wonderful place to visit. Perfect location and amc is next to it.

Hallie Becker

We had the most amazing experience. Great price, 10.00 for everything. Extremely friendly staff. Bright, open, and clean. Interactive activities, the entire family enjoyed our visit.

Adam Jeffries

Great little museum that hits way about it's weight class. My wife and I love going to the science happy hours they host every month and always keep an eye out for all the other fun events and exhibits going on there.

Gabrielle Squires

I was in awe of the glorious T-Rex and the amazing underwater fossils. There's also a great discovery area for kids. This is money well spent!

Christopher Laubenthal

The place is tidy and welcoming, but ultimately bare. The child's play area upstairs is nice and full of fun activities. Whether or not this makes sense for you is completely dependent upon the price point. I would say it has about two hours or so of entertainment.

Jenny Richmond

The kids Discovery Room is awesome! Lots of cool exhibits for little hands to explore. My preschool-age boys loved it - and I learned some new things too!

David Gay

Super place for grandpa's to take grandkids

Jena Dunham

This is a great museum the whole family can enjoy! Beautiful building tucked right into a great shopping and dining area. Upstairs is all for the kids with live animal exhibits and interactive activities. We will be back here again in the future. It was a great way to spend a few hours together.

Jason Carpio

Great time for a 3 yr old. Any kid older than 12 maybe not.

Adriane Ammerman

The museum is a beautiful facility! The windows, the lighting, the outdoor scenery -- gorgeous! The Discovery Center upstairs is pretty neat, but better for older kids (kids who can read some on their own). Wish the museum was a little more interactive for the grownups (although I was toting three little boys, so I may have missed a few things!)

D Arthur

Small yet nice museum catering mainly to kids 3-12, although any age may enjoy. Reasonable entrance fee. Plan to spend an hour or two depending on the exhibits which change about every 6 months or extra activities that happen periodically

Vladislav Breeze

I saw this place on YouTube (in the shuffle dance video) and found it on Google maps

Jacob Arriola

We visited the museum last Friday (4/26) and both my wife and I thought the museum was a bit small for the price. $10 for adults is a bit high for the amount of items that were in it. It should have been half that amount. I had a family of 6 and this gets expensive fast. The first floor has the skeletons, and other items, while the second floor is more hands on for the kids. Now, as a side note while my wife and I believed it was expensive and were too over impressed with the museum itself my kids (10, 8, 5 and 15 months ) really enjoyed it. The lady at the discovery center on the second floor was very helpful and willing to show the hissing insects in more detail. Also, since Avengers Endgame was going on next door in the theater the museum was basically empty so that was nice as well.

Sarahphim

Pretty good. The paid exhibit was really nice. Overall it is a bit small and the physics exhibit needs something more engaging then the jargon filled articles about quantum physics.

Alicia Marsh

My child loves the interactive make a dinosaur!

Cristina Allen

This place is AMAZING. My kids love love love it as do I. So much to learn an see cant wait to so back. We live in Oklahoma but we will make the drive because of how great of a place it is

Jordan Kruep

Great environment cheap free fun

Lori Eisenhour

We enjoyed everything, just wish there was more to do.

Mark Spencer

kids loved the hands on activities and dinosaurs

Jenny Bauman

Really interesting dinosaur exhibit, but needs more.

Stephanie Dreasher

Fun place to spend a few hours.

Jason Puett

Nice exhibits, short walking trail, animal exhibits on the upper floor

Kimberly Sterne

Really cool place to spend a couple of hours learning about science!

Sarah Curbow

Great for young kids and absolutley hands on. We had a great time!

Brooks Quarles

I held a corporate event for 50 employees at the Museum. Terry Thompson and Shannon Growney were excellent to work with, and made sure everything ran smoothly. I would definitely host another event at the Museum, and cannot thank the entire team enough.

Mechelle n Michael Samuel

The employees are hard to identify and when we found them they were extremely Rude. We came to look at exibits and there was litterally one room with only like 10 items in it to look at. The. There's a discovery room where the employee was very snobby and rude to our kids. The pictures show kids holding a turtle and our kids wanted to hold a turtle. That does not happen. Very frustrating. TOTALLY NOT WORTH THE $50 WE PAID TO GET IN! The Stonehenge exibit is closed to the public. Only for ages 10 and up and by appointment only. The website did not tell is that. There are tons of empty rooms in the "museum" I wouldn't call this a museum at all there's not near enough stuff to call it a museum.

Amy B

Yeah this place is awesome. Take your kids, there's dinosaurs!

Sidd J

Great museum with amazing staff and interesting exhibits. Not expensive at all and lots to learn.

Song Kaixu

A nice place to go for kids. It is more like a educational center than a museum. Children can learn a lot of useful knowledge in here.

Mary Grinter

Fun little museum and reasonably priced. There is a discovery room upstairs that is great for young kids. Definitely recommend it.

Julie Perry

We were greeted as we came in and they provide great information about their exhibits. We really enjoyed the dinosaur exhibits!

Whitney York

Went here on an outing with my clients. Can't wait to bring my son!

amy carr

I enjoy the exhibits and my son likes the discovery room! The vr experiences are cool too.

Denise Snyder

Nice museum. Geared mostly toward younger children. A lot of interactive opportunities for them to learn science. Good exhibit on dinosaurs with casts of dinosaur skeletons.

Wendy Lopez

First time I take my daughter here and I was very disappointed that few of your stuff was pretty rude even with the kids...

Lucy Ladley

My 8 year old grandson had an incredible time!

Sarah Noakes

This entire shopping center is a gem, but the museum really is surprisingly good for how small it is. It was quiet when we went which also made it feel like a very private experience, which I enjoyed. The massive fossil replicas are beautiful and breathtaking, as well as the interesting Hadron Collider art. Enjoy!

Sturlite

I volunteer here, its a great place for all ages. They have virtual reality, an exhibit which changes frequently, and a interesting disovery room. Great place!

Cassy Beers

Went for the egg hunt, we were told at registration that there was a 5 egg limit to make it fair for all kids. They did not enforce this rule or tell all parents. A lot of kids left without a single egg. Very poor planning and organization.

Justin Jones

Fun, but small! Lots of fossils, a few good interactive exhibits plan to spend 1- 2 hours.

James Mc Garvey

Nice little museum with a few VR items some you need to book on advance.

leonard radulescu

Excellent, a lot of details, amazing experience

Brian Curry

Very nice building. My kids really enjoyed the hands-on activities. I felt like the prices were reasonable and the staff was really friendly. There wasn't a ton for adults, IMHO. If you have kids, it's great for them. For adults, it's worth checking out the facility

Erin Cope

Love this place. TONS of hands on activity for all ages. My kids always have a great time.

Lori Schemmel

A great educational experience for all!

Leslie Tipton

What a cool place to explore! The featured exhibit was awesome as was the virtual reality volcano. The kids hands on area was a great place for kids to learn and play.

Jennifer Tufte

This was a fun, little museum to stop in to and get the kids interested in natural history. They enjoyed making their own dinosaurs to tromp across the big screen. The discovery room upstairs was also fun for my kids, with so many interactive exhibits. The VR room was another fun experience.

Bo Brown

The place is awesome! Great staff, and very friendly. There is a ton of stuff to do for the kids, and not so big that it will wear you out. They keep the place clean, and very well kept. I would definitely recommend this place for any type of event. They have plenty of event space, and not to far priced.

Corey Collins

Not a ton to do, but it's inexpensive and in a cool area. The hands-on kids zone is worth the price of admission alone.

April Krallman

I love this place! So much so that we bought yearly pass! So much cool stuff there!

Shannon M

Was there for a wedding.... It was BEAUTIFUL!!

Marion Sansing

Didn't go inside, but everything around the museum, nature trail etc. are great.

Avery Brown

As a person in my mid twenties with no kids this place was lame. Not much stuff to see and they spread everything out a ton. We spent maybe 10 minutes total in the whole place. For $10 per ticket you would think there would be more to see.

Tom Lindsay

This place is such an inspiration to education. Kids and adults love this place. Something for everyone

Katie Czerniak

The great hall is free and has several things to do like look at fossils, learn about dinosaurs and a VR experience. Didn't go anywhere else, but myself and my kids enjoyed the hall.

Amy Cameron

What they have is fantastic, they just don't have enough of it. Especially if you're older than ten. We spent less than two hours here and felt we'd done everything. I hope they're able to expand their offerings in the future.

Garrett Hartman

For the price there is a lot to see. They are putting in more exhibits currently. Your kids will love it.

Gregory Ramsay

Kids loved it lots to do. Hands on section was great for kids

Natalie Outlaw

I love bringing my brother here! There are so many interactive things for him to do that keep him engaged while also learning. We got to build a praying mantis, "dig" at an "archaeology site," use Virtual Reality to explore the planets, and even pet a bearded dragon! The experience was made even better when we got to create our own dinosaur and learn about it, then watch it come to life on a screen in the lobby! Love this place and the staff are so friendly.

mike d

The museum is nice, clean, and the staff is friendly. But the real reason I'm giving them a 5 star rating is due the their military veteran program. I was about to pay for the ticket for myself and 3 girls, she saw a USAA card and asked if I was a veteran. When I said yes, I was expecting her to say there was a discount, instead she said my entire family got in free. I've not seen a place do anything like that before. Very much appreciated! There is a donation box as you walk out, if you have the means, please donate!

K Durham

A fantastic museum! The girl working the front desk was incredibly helpful and friendly. This museum has an excellent veteran discount. The current dinosaur exhibit is probably more geared towards children than adults, but it is interesting and fun nonetheless. This place isn't huge, it's relatively small. A good size if you aren't looking to spend hours getting lost in exhibits but want to see and do some interesting things. There is a cool room upstairs that children are allowed to "touch" things and get hands on. Will definitely come again!

Keepsies Movingforward

Visited during Smithsonian's free museum weekend. It has a lot more inside than you think. The kids loved the virtual reality experience. Will definitely be back.

sethgameboy10

It was something magical about that

Kara Dee Flacke

A must see if you visit the area. The exterior of the building and the grounds were just stunning! Museum was great too!

John Nguyen

Great place to visit with kids. The main level has some free activities. The upstairs has a good variety of hands on activities.

Eileen Dickerson

What a beautiful place to study dinosaurs and fossils! The homeless art exhibit was a delight to see also. There is a great deal of talent!

Bobbie Fields

Wonderful...the kids in our 3rd grade class loved it

Eric Chudow

Small, but good for a couple of hours with the kids.

Helen Joy

Fun and educational. You can even create your own dinosaur, name her and bring her to life!!!

Victor Greystoke II

First visit and I love it!

Bruce Smith

I love the architecture, primarily the stained glass curtain walls that filter outside sunlight into the interior spaces.

Brandon Lewis

Fun place. It’s a bit small but worth going once in awhile. There are trails to walk right outside and shopping close by as well.

Heathe Ball

The second floor has amazing hands on activities for kids... not cheesy or patronising, but really challenging and simulating! First floor had a couple virtual reality options, build your own dinosaurs, a T-Rex skeleton, and sea monsters of North America. The replica skeletons in the sea monster exhibit were incredible! It's very hard to imagine turtles being that large, or that such amazing animals lived in the shallow ocean that once covered much of North America.

Justin B

There's plenty. Virtual 3D space experience. Literally a 3D view while in a chair. Facts and figures to find out about. Small pets exhibits to look at. Not sure how soon the 15min. virtual room will be. Was closed off when I was there.

TheFireSwordGod

Fun place for friends or for family. Super clean and lots of things to do for a great price. I highly recommend it.

Darlene Moseley

Took my grandsons and daughter-in-law here while they were here for a visit. The exhibition was Dinosaurs and it didn’t disappoint. The boys favorite part was creating their own computer generated dinosaur as well as the Dig Room upstairs. Extremely reasonable prices, $5 for kids, $10 for adults (we went during the week) and spent 2.5 hours there. I assume they change out exhibits every so often as the are affiliated with the Natural Museum of Science and History.

Neha Talwalkar

My daughter (4 yo) and her friend of same age loved exploring the museum. Although its not big but not at all overwhelming. VR for stonehenge was a nice experience. One star off only for the ticket fees. Little expensive to what they offer.

Erin Kuchenrither

Not huge, but a great discovery room. Kiddos had fun.

M B

When we went there was only a few people there, it was perfect. My kids were able to explore everything and since the exhibits are small they really were able to learn. The staff was very helpful, they each knew about different exhibits and taught my children fun facts.

cara bray

Wonderful, especially the discovery room. A bit pricier than I was expecting but I should have done my research. A lot of very open space, wish there were more exhibits but loved what was there.

Jason.Jenny Compton

Wish there was more to the museum but what they do have is really neat. Kids loved the discovery center.

Joseph Hutchens

Was a great time for my kids, it was our 1st time there and they did nothing but help and interact with my girls and teach them what was going on. Such a great experience!!!

Kyle Winward

Reasonably priced museum off of the beaten path, i.e., not overly crowded. Very welcoming and helpful staff. My kids loved the hands-on exhibits in the Discovery Room. It's fun but there is also very good educational content. There is a very impressive Tyrannosaurus rex installation, and other dinosaur and flying reptile installations. I greatly appreciated learning more about the Kansan Barnum Brown and his T. rex find, Charles Darwin and his contemporaries, and the scientific instruments and texts from the time periods. Highly recommended for kids of all ages! :-)
