Great place to stop and walk, much more than a historical marker. There are self guided walking trails with informative signage along the paths. Great for history buffs and nature lovers.

The place is never open. Also really didn't look like there was much to it why it is even there. I don't understand why the significant part of the battlefield is that general or Sergeant whatever was captured why doesn't it talk about the person who captured them? It doesn't even say the person who captured the whoever is famous there name

My husband and I were out for a Saturday afternoon drive and discovered this historic site by accident. They have a really nice newer visitors center with some nicely done civil war displays and a 30 minute or so video produced by the history channel about this specific battle. The outdoor field walking area is free but there is a $6 fee for the museum itself. It’s well worth the fee and your time to make it out to this historic battle site. It’s a great quick weekend outting if you live around the greater Kansas City area.

Cool but small battlefield excellent historical site to visit but watch out for ticks all over. It's a shame they're removing civil war monuments, next Will be the battlefields. History is something to enjoy and learn from not to distroy.

Fascinating place if you love history. Take a walk on the trails if you have time & imagine what it was like for the soldiers in battle. The attendant went out of her way to help me with questions about the Kansas 2nd cavalry. Thumbs up!

Very interesting. The only Civil War battle fought in the state of Kansas you, and it's well-preserved. I actually recommended this site to a visitor from Alaska. After the tour he was very pleased.

Its pretty small. Has a self guided tour. The exhibits are environmentally friendly with self powered stations along the trail. Very modest admission for a small museum. You can get a really up close and personal look at some of the artifacts. Sadly due to heavy rainfall recently the trail wasn't entirely accessible and was quite soggy.

Inside the visitors center there's a gift shop. You can view the battlefield from a bank of windows inside the visitors center. Or you can walk the trail, complete with signs and pictures. Some signs actually speak. There's a small charge if you wish to tour the museum. But the battlefield itself, is free, and open 7 days a week dawn to dusk.

James is very knowledgeable and enjoyed talking with him. Has a small gift shop and movie and of course it’s the actual battlefield. Veterans and seniors get a discount. It’s $5 with discount and $6.00 reg price.
