This Museum is classified in the category of Natural history museum.
This museum was stunning in its size and quantity of natural specimens. The decor and lighting greatly complemented the exhibits. This museum has been expertly curated and we ended up spending much more time taking everything in standing in open-mouthed awe. This is seriously a fantastic museum, a must-see.
Top place to visit for an hour or so while at KU. Great for kids. Cool exhibits, indoor bee hive is my absolute favorite. Small enough to see it all in a short amount of time. Go on the weekend so you dont have to fight parking.
You can get though the whole museum in about 30 mins. It was a lot smaller then I expected. Some of the exhibits were ok. Almost exclusively Kanasas animals which is understandable being in Kansas. Over all though was disappointed was told it was the best meusem in Kansas. If that is the case then Kansas lives up to its stigma of being a small time state.
Очень крутой музей!!! Всем, кто будет по близости советую найти время и заглянуть в него! Мы были с ребенком 6 лет. Он был в восторге!
Awesome!
Operates with a suggested donation. Great place to take kids! It's not a stuffy be quiet place, there are hands on activities! There is so much information here to soak in!
Love it!!!
Historic building, taxidermy animals a few in strange poses.
Its a fun place especially to take your kids to because they get the chance to learn about fossils dinosaurs and oceans that were in Kansas.
Always awesome kids love it
아이들의 초등학교 시절을 함께 한 곳
Great way to spend an afternoon
A nice museum that is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the state.
Nice collection of fossils, perfectly sized for children without it being too big.
It's super interesting!
Wonderful collection of fascinating materials that will leave you partially creeped out and totally in awe.
Nice museum. Interesting exhibits. The panorama room on the main level is pretty neat.
An extremely educational place with much to learn. More then can be taken in in a day. The elevator was out when we visited, but a minor issue. During school during the week, close in parking won't exist. The museum is free, although the suggested donation comes across as a mandatory entry fee. Worth the visit and we'll be back to the KU campus as there are many other attractions to visit

very interesting and informative
Hidden Gem! Grandparents' perfect day with gkids!
Very exciting!
Great place for kids to learn about science.
Very informative!
Great place to visit!
Beautiful proud of Kansas university. Big fan
Love this place! Parking can be a little confusing if you're not from the area, but they're very helpful if you call and ask. Our kids love visiting (a future paleontologist and future herpatologist, they say).
Lots of great ancient animal exhibits, taxidermy, and other cool stuff including a large and detailed nature panorama. Definitely worth a visit!
Nice little museum. Kids really enjoyed watching the bees.
Helping in remodel of 7 floor
Good examples of many birds. Also has some Kansas dinosaur artifacts other exhibits of snakes, and mammals. Good for kids. Donation suggested. Located on main campus
Place is excellent but needs more donations. Show some love to education
Great presentation by Greg Freeman on his his work in Trees Shrubs and Woody vines of Kansas
students free, all else donation. worth a visit. make sure to visit every level! the skeleton in my photo is a tylosaurus. I named him Tyler. have fun!
Really enjoyed the museum. Was kinda hard to get to because of the construction. Couldn't figure out the pay before you park.
It's a fun place to spend a few hours with kids and learn things in the process
I learned a lot of things here

My kids loved the Dinosaur fossils
Cool place. A lot of stuffed animals and fossils. The place is well kept too
This is an amazing museum. So much history and great displays of bones, animals and scenes. A must see when you are in Lawrence.
Lots to see, but you're on your own exploring it for the most part. Loved the fossils and wildlife exhibits.
No matter how many times I visit I just love seeing everything. It's great for kids and has a bug room for them where they can do activities. My family enjoys getting the scavenger hunt paper and trying to find everything.
Very interesting place
Historical panoramas. The bees. A great place to visit as an adult or a child.
和国内的比简直弱爆了。可是有什么关系呢,反正是免费的。
Great fossils. Lots of animals that only see on a flat page in a book you can see up close. Great adventure pages for kids.
Suggested contribution price seems a little steep, but overall a fun little place to kill a couple hours exploring
Not typically a fan of Natural History Museums, but this one was unexpectedly fun. They had cool little activities to engage kids at most of the displays. No pressure on the donation if you are unable to ante up. But we kicked in because, well that's how museums work.
Awesome place! My kids loved all the cool dinosaur atrifacts!
What an adventure! Fun for the family! I grew up in Lawrence but make trips from Iowa now to bring the kids to the museum!
What an awesome experience. Would be great for kids, but we loved it as much as any child would. World class dinosaur exhibits. Very informative bee display stands out also.
Great museum that will keep all ages interested
The KU Natural History Museum has a wide variety of specimens from many different locations. The geological/paleontological knowledge here is astounding!
Great museum on campus. Well worth a visit if your in the area!
Was good for a museum in an university
Enjoyed the museum. So fascinating.
It's small but still cool to visit. I love museums
Learned a lot!
A very excellent natural history museum! Lots of neat exhibits that are really well done. Well worth the visit if in the area.
Nice exhibits my almost 4 year old had a great time
I loved the place as a child and now my grandchildren love it as well. Old favorites and new exhibits coexist in one of the most interesting buildings on the KU campus. Don't miss it!
9yr old nephew had a very good time. Liked the dinosaur bones best, wish there were more! He enjoyed most of the place. Very long walk from Union parking lot thru the Union maze due to construction in fro tof union and museum.
With its low-ceilinged galleries, taxidermies & fossils behind glass, and little natural light, this is really a natural history museum of the last century (you can see their attempts to instill new blood here and there, though). The dioramas are not bad but the lighting doesn't make them stand out or feel immersive. Despite its showing age, this museum manages to pack a lot of information in a space that feels a bit compact. Admission is contribution-based. I won't suggest your going out of your way to visit this place, but it is certainly worth a stop if you are in town.
They have great events for kids on certain weekends. Make sure to find them on facebook to see their event schedule. Its a smaller museum than some I've been to, and more historic feeling. They just added a plant exhibit on the 3rd floor that is really cool.
Fun and kid friendly...had a blast
Cool museum.
Great museum with a variety of collections!
This is a great Museum to learn some things you probably didn’t know about Kansas, if your looking for a great priced place to spend a few hours learning in a fun way, this could fit the bill, well worth the trip to from out of town and if you live in town, why haven’t you gone?
Pretty place, but no parking, wonderful exibits
Love the panorama and fossil collection. Also check out Bug Town for some live insects
Interesting museum to walk thru while on campus.
Wonderful experience
Very cool OLD stuff. Lots to see and do.
Excellent displays and good variety of Kansas material.
Awesome museum, loved the dioramas
Loved the museum as a kid. Now I love it as an adult with kids.
As a new father, I love this place even more for the excitement I get when I think about taking my son here someday. Such a treasure of a museum—a policy of “donations requested, not required” means so many more people, people who otherwise might not, get to experience our geological history.
Wonderful museum!
Educational, interactive and with a focus on teaching people about what makes the Great American Plains so interesting.
Great museum with lots of neat and interesting things from fossils to rocks. Great for kids also.
Very interesting place we only had 1 hour they're six floors we only had time to see 3 floors would love to to go back and check out the rest
I had lived in Lawrence with access to this museum for two years before going. I am so glad I finally had opportunity. I was only able to go through two floors and I was amazed at both what was housed there as well as what is actually present in Kansas's history. Well worth the visit and great interactive moments for kids (or kids at heart) too.
Such a great museum!
Beautiful historic place to visit!
I enjoyed going here as a kid and a student at KU and I enjoyed taking my kids to it.
Panorama is best exhibit showing Arctic to tropical North America. My favorite is the Sonoran Desert. Also has fossils from Kansas. Check out Bug Town and the bee hive for live insects. Something for entire family. Special events through the year. Even the floor has animals!
Hidden Gem in Lawrence. I did an environmental science project there and went back on my own time to see all of the awesome exhibits.
The dino exhibit is small but just amazing! Incredible mosasaurs, from Kansas!! It was a shallow ocean here at one time. Amazing display of past mass extinctions, I had no idea.
It was cool
I could have spent all day here. My 7 yo loved the scavenger hunt
Love it!!
Neat place and the displays they had the day we went we're fun for our grandson. The only real drawback is that parking is not right by the museum, it's a little ways away.
Great for kids and adults, a lot to see. Awesome collection of fossils.
Very nice museum with good expositions
Great place for inquisitive children ages 5-10!
Nice place to bring kids. The best part is the bee hive and the dinosaur exhibits. Not really that dynamic - once or twice a year would be great to visit.
Great educational place
One of the best museums in the region.
Fascinating
It's a little run down, but they have some nice exhibits. I was really tickled by the live beehive. I was disappointed the snakes were not out.
Good but not handicap friendly
Easy place to go. The kids area needs updated, but lots of neat things to look at.
This is a great place to take you kids or grandkids to learn and explore the natural world. A bit aged but undergoing improvements. Otherwise a 5 star.
More extensive than Dinsmoor's "Garden of Eden" (Lucas, Kansas), the Natural History Museum is my favorite destination for history and entertainment. You can spend a few minutes to an hour there depending on your mood. Snakes, bees, and mechanical prairie dogs await!
One of the best dinosaur exhibits I’ve ever seen. Had no idea I’d enjoy this place as much as my kids and watching them run around. Lots of interactive activities. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes.
A nice museum with many amazing artefact.
We love this museum! It has a fun bug area for kids, and the information for the exhibits are informative. The panaroma is beautiful.
Very cool natural history museum, with some intersting, interactive displays!
It is cool
Nice collections and fun outreach activities!
Had an outing with a small group of people and it was very clean and well put! Great place to come visit!
Love it here! I remember coming as a child and it's still excite me
Nice museum and great place to bring children as the exhibits really hold their interest starting with the diorama on the main floor and ending with the display cases in the basement or the mosasaur fossil cast that looms over the entrance.
Amazing!
Fun for adults and kids. Very informative
I am 42 and have been coming since I was.born. just wish they still had Comanche the stuffed horse that was the only survivor of Custer's detachment that was at little Big Horn
Great place to take kids
This is a free museum, but they do appreciate a donation from visitors. The suggested amounts are $7 for adults and $4 for kids. For a campus museum this is quite large. Four floors with lots to see and interactive stations for young kids. On the entrance level there are at least the different scavenger hunt check lists that kids can do.
Neat!
Beautiful collection.
A hidden gem, in plain sight! A lot of really cool artifacts inside.
The panoramas are quite interesting, and something that you don't see in most museums. The taxidermy leopard on the 2nd floor, however, is extraordinary. It is one of the best examples of taxidermy that I have ever seen.
What a great little museum!! The panoramas are worth the price of admission, very lifelike and detailed. Also there are really cool fossils and live specimens including snakes, anoles, and bees. Great place for kids.
So neat!
Great dinosaur fossils!
My kids love all the interactive displays, especially the bug room. Lots of interesting dioramas and Exhibits. Exhibitions include live bees, reptiles, mammal skulls, archaeology, explore evolution, fossils (including a T-Rex) and Bug Town. It also has a fully intact Mosasaurs fossil on display.
This place is great. Shows and explains quite a bit of natural history of the midwest including geologic. Amazing displays and information.
I've already visited 3 times and it never ceases to amaze me. It truly is one of the best Natural History Museums I have ever been to. There are interactive activities for kids and the information and collection alone is enough to keep adults inspired.
Great experience for my kids ,they want to visit again and again
Very cool museum.
Cool place
This is a very old historic museum in the state and ever since I was a child is been a favorite spot of mine.
Great time a fun place
Cool exibits
Took my kids to this museum. My four-year-old is in his "LOVES DINOSAURS" phase and both he and my almost seven-year-old really enjoyed the museum. There are an extensive amount of exhibits for the relatively small area occupied. We plan on going back soon.
Interesting place to take the kids on a rainy day
Absolutely loved this place. I always visit this place when I am in town.
I love everything about this place. That's why I volunteer. It's a great place to spend your time. So many amazing displays, along with regularly occuring events to help you learn more about science, and to help get kids involved.
Excellent treat for all ages, so many adventures and conversations can be launched from the various exhibits.
