Great little museum. Helpful staff.

Came here with a group of people for a tour, and had a great time. Really enjoyed the different styles of art, our guide was very friendly and informative and I learned a lot about the pieces she highlighted. This is a wonderful place to spend some time, whether with a group or on your own. Highly recommended.

Swope is a delightful establishment, and is enjoyable to just about all who visit. The art is beautiful and it doesn't require an artist's eye to appreciate the pieces residing within. I'd recommend this place to those looking for a quiet outing with a loved one.

Haven't visited many museums but I think this one is nice. 2 floors several rooms. It's neat to slow down and look at art.

My family and I visit Swope often, we try to make it to see new additions and exhibits. It is a wonderful way to spend time and gather an appreciation for art. It is always a pleasure to bring a friend that has lived in Terre Haute or the surrounding areas for the first time.

A nice little museum with a good selection of early 20th century American art and some 19th century Indiana impressionists. Make a day trip of it and see the Haan Museum in Lafayette as well.

New to the area. This was a unplanned drop in. Glad I did. Museum was small but art wasn't disappointing. It features American art. Photography and sketching is allowed and there's free admission. Oh parking was easy. Swopes is street side and easy to miss it.

D Porter

This was a nice museum with some really great pieces of art. The staff were fantastic and went out of their way to make us comfortable while sketched and viewed the art.

Marcus Dugan

Small but full of great artwork, with well known works from artists like Edward Hopper, Grant Wood, and others. One of the coolest parts was a painting where Hoosier artist James Shepard did a portrait of the man who was the subject of Grant Wood's "Spring in Town" as he was looking at the painting 33 years later. Anyway, the staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and approachable, and the museum overall was a pleasant (and free) experience.

I went specifically to see my 11 year old niece's piece that is in the Lost Creek's school display. I was privileged to be able to see all of the school's artwork. Elementary school thru highschool. 51st such showing at Swope. So wonderful. I was amazed. Having said that, I arrived early and was blessed to have time to check out the Swope's own pieces. Oh my goodness! I have missed out for way too long. The pictures were jumping out at me. So many seemed to be 3 dimensional. I was moved by many of them. And the frames? Incredible. I had the good fortune to speak with one of the employees (I know that this isn't the deserving title but the correct one doesn't come to mind). He shared great insight and made my visit that much more special. I only have one regret. They accept donations and I had left my purse in the car. I didn't have cash anyway. I hardly ever do. But I will make sure that I do in the future. Yes. I plan on making it a regular thing for me. I am excited to take my 6 year old granddaughter.

The history that accompanied paintings and sculptures of local and regional artists like the "Hoosier Group" was a welcome surprise. I especially enjoyed the Curious George exhibit with it's detail of how his creators escaped the Nazis during WWII. I was glad I took the short detour off of I-70.
