REVIEWS OF Studebaker National Museum IN Indiana

Marian Martin

This museum is a car enthusiasts dream and even offers interesting tidbits for those not as into cars. The museum starts off with wagons and carriages which is very intriguing to see. They give a lot of interesting facts regarding all the exhibits. Even if you're not a car fan, there are still so many interesting historical facts.

Shagg77

Great local history lesson in the museum. Very nice facility. Cars and coffee event was a lot of fun too!

Brain Bernal

Visited the museum while in town for a hockey tournament and really enjoyed it! Lots of vehicles and history in this building to look at, the displays are nicely laid out and very informative. Everything is very clean and well taken care of. The staff/volunteers at the museum were great and had lots of information. One staff member asked where we were from, and was able to make a connection to one of the exhibits in the museum, which was the last Studebaker car manufactured in Windsor, Ontario. Enjoyed visiting and is a must see in South Bend.

Sheere Fervida

I have been here a few times. Always something new to look at. Love it!

jason kluczyk

Fun place to visit. Great cars. The oliver mansion was unexpectedly fun tour.

James Burns

Great place for family and the kids will love the cars

Tim Yazel

We took friends to the museum, not sure if they would enjoy it. They loved it. The guys really enjoyed it and so did the ladies. The museum is well presented and there is a diversity to hold almost anyone's interest. Nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Debra Cummings

Did not know Studebakers started by making wagons. Very interesting and some cool looking cars too!

Samuel Mestel

Very interesting museum with a massive collection of antique vehicles spanning many decades, from horse-drawn carriages to roadsters. Definitely worth a visit.

Nate Scheblo

Now this is a pretty cool museum. I enjoyed the chance to learn more about a classic Hoosier company. Unfortunately I don't ever get to see Studebakers on the road, I wasn't around when they were in production. Cool to see all the models they produced and how they evolved as a company from the days of horse drawn carriages. Sad that the brand couldn't remain in production beyond the 60s. I am however very happy at the collection of vehicles that show how both how far we have come in transportation and how similar things are. Four wheels with seats.... Thanks for preserving the Studebaker brand and sharing with generations to come!

Ryan Moss

Awesome place to be if you love historic cars

Jennifer Allen

Love the cars and the house

Megan Kozik Fletcher

We went with a large group of 9 with a wide age range. The exhibits were laid out well and it allowed for easy handicap accessibility. The smaller kids enjoyed the fix it shop. The adults enjoyed the third floor with the old drive in setting. The 10 cars that changed the world was also a fun exhibit. This was a very educational trip and it exceeded my expectations. The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. The only negative is that there was a special event going on the next day so the area with several cars was inaccessible. The elevator was very slow and on our trip up and down we had a line and wait.

Roselyn Pennick

Atmosphere was great and service was good

Ross Davis

Lovely displays of pre-car history through to the last cars

Cindi Eads

Fun place to go and check out the past..we love it. Easy on the wallet too.

Gayle Burris

They have a couple wheelchairs so if you are visiting with someone who has mobility issues, go early so you can use one, no charge. It was a fun walk back in time, something for everyone. There is also another museum on site, but we will have to make another trip to see that one. Convenient parking, the docents are friendly and knowledgable.

Bob Chance

Very nice clean and so many cars we throughly enjoyed or visit and the employees were so kind and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend

Vladimir Odessitt

Great display; Nice collection. It's the story of 19th and 20th century America.

Michael Monaco

Nice museum with a very knowledgeable curator. Worth checking out for the history even if you aren't particularly into cars.

A N

It is a fantastic place to explore, the assistants are very helpful and informative. There is a gift shop that has both informative and historical items for sale. There are 3 floors of exhibits to see as well as a whole other side full of Oliver information and historical views!

Jamie Halverson

So full of amazing history and of course cars. Not just Studebakers either. Of course I may be a little bias, I do have a Studebaker museum plate on my van.

Donn Hussey

Very nice museum. It was quite busy, and had a lot of good history. We were able to visit the studebaker and Native American areas. I would suggest for the Studebaker area that it was a little unclear as to what the correct path through the rows was. This didn't detract from learning about the subject material, however.

Gary Pollitz

Wonderful display of Studebakers. Beautiful mansion. Nice history displays. Great docent Kenny who made our experience superb. Go there if you like cars and history. Stay at the Oliver Inn and eat at the Tippecanoe restaurant. Two other great mansions to enhance your experience. Both have wonderful food.

Lou Donkle

First class and modern museum in the same building as The History Museum and Oliver Mansion. See all three!

Debra Evans

I found the museum very interesting! Visiting there was part of my birthday present. I really enjoyed it.

CHAD SCHLEMMER

Love the museum, just needs better lighting in the basement display

Jeffery Smialek

Angela Wroblewski

I have lived in this area my entire life, and just recently visited for the first time. Was I ever surprised to discover this hidden gem!! Amazing!!! I will spend more time there on my next visit for sure!

Stephen Nill

It's fun and educational. The cars and car-precursors are amazing. The staff is VERY friendly. Just wish I had more time. Three hours wasn't enough.

Bubsy Malone

This museum is amazing! I learned so much about the Studebaker company. There were so many other cars there that were major steps in the auto industry. Many prototype and one off cars. Stairs and an elevator to all three floors. Good sized gift shop that isn't super expensive.

Rockshowsnodeth .

Amazing museum to spend the day at. So many cars and carriages to see there, as well as the Olive(r) Mansion on site. The cars they had there were amazing, and had very rare cars that I've never seen and never dreamed of seeing there that were apart of the Streamlined collection, including a 1935 Stout Scarab. They even have the original carriage that President Lincoln had ridden/drove in to the Ford Theatre as a permanent fixture. Definitely a must go for car enthusiast and history buff alike.

Austin Aubinoe

I love that the ticket is good for two days. This is one of the most interesting museums I’ve ever been in. Lots of information on the rise and fall and resurgence of industry in the st Joseph river valley. I came just for the Studebaker’s. There is so much more here than I expected. Definitely tour the Oliver mansion.

Suzi Noble

Took my husband here for our 30th anniversary. My dad is an auto body mechanic. I grew up around classic cars all my life. My husband loves them as well, so this was a perfect place for us. I will include alot of photos, especially for those of you who would like to see it, but aren't able to get out. I hope you enjoy.

Mike Tschaenn

Beautiful cars, great collection of stage coaches too.

Jose Arevalo

Great place keeping the past alive and accessible!

Marie Pynaert

Our grandson loves the hands on service area for the kids

Sandra Lastovic

I took my dad 76 year old dad to The Studebaker Museum. They have comprehensive display of Studebacker vehicles right from the original carriages to the final model cars they produced. It’s a great museum for all generations. I would also recommend getting the pass that includes The Oliver Mansion in sight!

Donna Murray

Very nice location for parties. People can see the museum and mingle.

Nicole Howard

This place is fun for all ages. Hands on section for younger age children.

jjflash1987

Nice museum. Lots of area history. If you go pay the additional fee to see the Oliver house. Well worth the extra.

Szilard Kiss

Awsome museum, glad i was here, lot of beauty in here, loved the design of late 30’s and 40’s

Harry Fritz

My first time at this auto museum; what a fabulous historical place! I learned that, even before auto production, the Studebaker carriages were favorites of several presidents. This is a place where a full day could be spent with the exhibits.

Gary Landrio

They are telling the great story of a fascinating and innovative car manufacturer

Ryan Paturalski

Amazing space and amazing cars

Elaine Gauden

Very interesting and very friendly and informative

Kathie

A great museum to visit. An education on an American car company that contributed to our nation's economy and people who were ahead of their time. Not to be missed.

Grant Strzelczyk

A MUST See in South Bend There's more than just the Studebaker to see at the museum. There are traveling and regional exhibits too. Everything was very well displayed, some are even hands on. Two other displays were on Tiffany Glass and the woman's (All American Girl's Baseball League) baseball of the 40's and 50's. Spend the day and enjoy yourself! Handicap friendly. Ample parking. Family and children friendly. Senior and Military discounts.

Chris

We've lived in the area for 3 years, and we're just now finding the time to visit this gem. I enjoy American history, and the Studebaker National Museum gave me my fill. You will discover products ranging from the buggies pulled by horses in the 19th century to military vehicles still in use today. The price admission is reasonable, and the museum offers a military discount. What a great place to go on a rainy/snowy day!

Geri Hoopes

Great staff. A lot of fun seeing all the classic cars. We learned a lot

Pit Vins

An excellent exhibition of motoring, especially, of course, the Studebaker brand.

Bill Halliar

Wonderful little museum. Car lovers and history buffs alike will find something to marvel at here. Three stories of amazing American steel. And the carriage Lincoln rode to the playhouse on the night of his assassination! What?! The history is palpable.

Dean Carlson

An amazing historical learning experience. Lots of different autos to see and not all were Studebakers. You can even have your Studebaker researched by providing the VIN and paying a $30 fee.

Summer Yeats

I LOVED EVERYTHING but.....One big red LARK sign going up the stairs needs a "warning low sign." Signs.... and the wagon room can grate with that song so parents with toddlers remember....the vroom vroom cars are upstairs....

Richard Daems

The brothers exhibit the best of the talent and enterprise that the immigrants of their generation contributed to this nation

mcclks01

Beautiful old cars! We had a great time and loved our visit. Clean, shiny and well thought out. A little piece of history worth the visit.

Jerry Straks

Fun! Great trip down memory lane. Fascinating history and great displays.

Ryan Swiger

Cool place to see a bit of automotive history

Mark Hayward

This is such a fantastic Museum, and such a bargain! They really packed a lot into a manageable sized space. You can see the whole thing in an hour and a half if you're fast, or you can take a more leisurely stroll and spend all day. They have a really great range of the cars and other things that Studebaker produced, so you can get a clear idea of what the company was all about, plus they have other manufacturer's cars that are historically important to give you an idea of what was happening in each time period.

Kerry Barron

Nice car museum

Colleen Dunford

To cars. Loved hearing about how this company evolved from carriages

edward schrey

If you like old cars this is a must visit the displays are all well done

Anthony Radulovich

Great Car Museum but also just an interesting historical time capsule of sorts. The staff were very nice.

H. Mob

tom

Great museum.

korey fann

Great place for fans of local South Bend and Studebaker history!

Dave Barkley

This is a wonderful property and I’ve been there several times. I was just there with a school group and the only thing I took issue with was politics was pushed on the kids. While looking at a photo of FDR in the Workers House the kids were told he’s a Democrat which takes care of working class people. Later during the Studebaker tour the guide said Henry for was a business man that liked selling carriages to Republicans because they were rich and took care of big businesses. Regardless if you agree or disagree with these statements, they don’t need to be pushed on to third graders. Outside of that the property is great and the Studebaker guide was too.

Timo Sokero

Wonderful place to stop .

I was in South Bend Indiana for the 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. When talking to a bunch of locals they were recommending that I visit The Studebaker Museum. I'm glad I did for only 15 bucks I got to experience The Studebaker and The History Museum I learned so much today. It was the a perfect way to end my vacation in South Bend Indiana. Thank you.

Not a lot of parking. With a 24 foot camper, we were able to find street parking out front. Loved the museum. Would come back again, especially with more time to enjoy the neighboring Museum.

Buns Later

Wonderful, beautiful, great history. But they stop at 1932

debra jackson-clapham

Loved this place. It's full of history plus it's all about cars. When you have been around the car museum you can visit the Oliver house. If you have Scottish ancestry its the place to go.

R Richardson

Great place to visit in South Bend.

Yvonne Worley

Second time there, for buying raffle tickets. Loved, loved the History part. Coming back for the tour of Oliver Mansion. ❤️

Michael Tulig

Worth at least several hours. More than a collection of vintage cars, carriages and wagons. It's a transportation museum and the history of a family and a company.

Heather Oakley

It's my second time here. This time I brought my boyfriend and his son this time. We enjoyed learning about the area and the automotive industry more. Also the gardens were beautiful.

Catherine H.

Friendly staff, and very thorough and well-documented displays. Was very impressed with overall presentation and facility. Was hoping they would make mention of Studebaker's ties with Mercedes-Benz and it's entrance into the U.S. market. Maybe a future addition? ;)

Arthur Rodriquez

Visited the museum while in town for a hockey tournament and really enjoyed it! Lots of vehicles and history in this building to look at, the displays are nicely laid out and very informative. Everything is very clean and well taken care of. The staff/volunteers at the museum were great and had lots of information. Con Bac

It was small, but nice cars. The one in Kalamazoo is so huge and awesome we were spoiled.

Allen F Ivey II

We had been to the original Studebaker Museum years ago. We decided to go again & it was an extremely nice experience. The Studebaker Museum is very airy & it has alot of cars, etc.. to see. There's a History Museum attached to the Studebaker Museum; It's also very interesting. Of course there's a cost for both museums. I recommend buying the 2 museum package because the cost for one is almost as much as the combo. Seniors have a reduced cost also.

George Gauden

Loved it, was well worth the time. Very friendly and helpful. Well kept and orderly.

Benson Jengela

Great museum, learn much of great history

Martin Vlcek

What a great collection of cars.

Werner Dahm

Really great museum. I liked how they integrated much of the history into the architecture of the building. Each room was impressive. I would suggest anyone in the area visiting Notre Dame stop by!

Kelly Möller

The Studebaker Museum have a big collection. You get many information about cars in different periods. All cars are is in good condition and are very beautiful. In lower level some car are on double storage and you can't see very well, this is a shame because they really need to be appreciated. the course may last from 2 to 2:30. The price is very affordable and also has souvenir shop and some antiques.

Paul Smith

Second time visiting. It is very interesting. I had no idea. And very well laid out.

Philip Wiltshire

Stan Winiarski

Great place a lot better than I thought it would be well worth the trip

My Child got a little Bored after the 15th Car but she loved the kids area where she changed tires and replaced the Cow Thing under the car. Lol. (Because the Bad Muffler looked like Cow Spots, it was funny)

terry bettiga

Great memories of one of the most advanced engineered vehicles of its time. Lots of trivia on the history of the Studebaker family, the humble beginning and the advancement to the #4 car producer in the early '60's. I am sure you will enjoy your time there.

My wife is a decendent of clement studebaker and when we told the staff they were very helpful, gave us info. literature and even directions to a local church nearby that clement had built. Only downside was museum had some non studebaker vehicles. Store had great selection even better than store website we were told also had small food drink items inside. A nice day trip from toledo ohio!

Glenn Renick

Neat place but too many cars are up on racks where they can't be seen and many cars are situated so that you can't see much (or any) of the interior.

creighton trimble

Great displays of key Studebaker and Packard automobiles and trucks. Many special models. Well priced a must see. Many historical photos as well.

Mike Wysko

Beautiful cars and horse driven vehicles. The tour of Oliver house was really fun as well. If you like history, art on wheels and seeing how the wealthy lived back in the day, you should have an enjoyable visit.

Eric Austin

Great place to take your family for the day!

William Hays

We went here to tour the J. D. Oliver house, which is a worthwhile tour! Learned a lot more about the Oliver family, and the plow/tractor company they created and operated. Also toured the Studebaker museum, learning a lot about their heritage and carriage building before venturing into cars and trucks.

Sean Rasor

Great self guided walking tour. Several great examples.and prototypes.

Lillian Nash

Had an awesome time here at the Studebaker Museum today. My Fiance is a total car junkie, and wanted him to see this place while on Vacation. We both enjoyed the whole day here. Spent about 2 hours here taking in all of the amazing displays. I absolutely loved the presidential display that is here. All the vehicles are absolutely beautiful and have so much history behind them. It's defiantly a stop to be had while traveling through Indiana.

Will Hall

A very interesting history and a great display of wagons, cars and trucks.
