REVIEWS OF Seiberling Mansion IN Indiana

Heidi Mayo

So much history and the lady working there had so much information. Mynarose. I think. Cool story about her name, if you happen to be there when she is there. I will go back. My kids (10 and 11) really enjoyed it as well.

I’m a volunteer here at the Seiberling Mansion Museum, owned by Howard County, Indiana. Ran by the Howard County Historical Society. I’ve done this for 10 years now. This house is 11,327 sq ft., 5 stories high. And was completely built by hand. In 17 months. Started November 1, 1889, and finished March 1st of 1891. It was built by Monroe Seiberling. He only lived in it for 3 years, before moving on to Peoria, Illinois, where he built another Seiberling Mansion.

My fiance has been pai ting this historic mansion now for 2 months......he and his crew (Royal Painting) has done an amazing job at restoring this piece of history and beautiful structure! As far as the mansion itself.....there are numerous events that take place here...including a romantic horse and carriage ride for christmas time....in october near halloween there is a "who-dun-it" mystery tour of interaction type mystery crime...portrayed in early days of jack the ripper and dr jeckyll/mr. Hyde..... There are also events such as fund raisers, classy dinners, and tours of this history rich house. This is a great place to go for many reasons, many occassions, and always you leave feeling with a sense of respect for our ancestors that paved the way for our successes!!!

We were from out of town looking at the sites. Decided to check it out. Some of the rooms were not open and we were given a discount for that. Overall it was interesting and there were some neat facts about the area and the gas boom.

Got there before they opened and couldn't wait but peered through the windows and it was gorgeous.

I loved the architecture of the building but the one thing that I did not like is that the inside was not restored for the time period. Meaning that the different rooms were not set up for the original purpose. Such as the library is not a library anymore. The room that they say was a nursery was not set up to be a nursery.

Johnny Geary

Joshua Eikermann Cowsert
