Jennifer Robinson

Great place to chk out if u like trains .I just moved to elkhart and have enjoyed the trains and all th ed graffiti on the trains it's a neat little museum as interesting interesting to see .

Kristie Bednarz

Great place to watch the trains go by. Very reasonable. Not very big but lots of interesting train exhibits inside and out. Friendly staff easy to find and park.

Bruce Fay

A nice museum with lots of memorabilia and worth the small cost of admission. It was not busy when we were there and we got a lot of info from the very knowledgeable docent. The rolling stock needs lots of TLC, but that requires funds and talented volunteers. NYC operated in 9 states and 2 provinces. Elkhart was the largest switch yard in the Eastern U.S. until Burlington was enlarged, and still has a lot of train traffic.

Curt Caden

Equipment in very poor condition not just needing restoration but basic preservation. Exhibits interesting and the local angle was much appreciated.

If you like railroading and railroading history, you'll love this NYC museum in Elkhart... The museum has some nice artifacts on the inside, including an operating O gauge model train set... It also has a lot of models on display in glass cases, as well as a large model of a steam engine.. Outside a lot of rolling stock, including a nice NYC 4-8-2 Mohawk steam locomotive... As a retired Engineer on another road, I enjoyed my visit and the folks who volunteer their time are great people..! At $5 for a senior it was well worth it.. I think the standard charge is $6.. One more note, if you are a train watcher you'll have a front row seat as you watch train after train roll by right in front of the museum...! Also, you are right on Main St. in downtown Elkhart, so lunch or dinner is right up the road... I would definitely recommend a visit here...

Exhibits and people were great, trains which you can enter definitely need a lot of work.

My 3 year old LOVES trains!! This is one of the Best museums we've visited. The only thing that would make this more awesome is an actual train ride. I remember coming to this museum when I was little, so to be able to bring my son was pretty special. They have really ramped up their exhibits in the last 20 years.

This is a great place for train buffs to visit and for anyone who is fascinated by the history or railroads and trains. You can see an extensive selection of artifacts and historic photos of the early days of railroading, plus a huge model train exhibit and finish your visit by checking out its collection of historic locomotives and train cars.

Massive model train setup was impressive. Kids enjoyed playing at the train table, watching the models run, and seeing live trains go by. The train yard is explorable but a little rough. Overall experience was great.

Great service and friendly atmosphere, there is quite a bit to see and they have plenty of RR merchandise to choose from including patches.

This Museum was an afternoon well spent. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We were able to walk into the trains, read all about this Depot in Elkhart, and enjoyed the amazing model train room. We spent about two hours here just taking our time to read the plaques on the displays, sit on the porch and admire these monsters and imagine traveling by train. Thanks so much for the ability to get a hands on experience!

Micheal Lockhart

Jason Mills

My young daughter had a blast here, and there was some cool stuff to see, but I don't think that the price justified the experience. We went one time and we will probably not go back because I think it is just too expensive for what it is.

Minerva Robinson

John Morrison

went here during a camping trip with my kids and dad, was a really cool place if you like history or trains or both.

Yan Potolin

Friendly people and a lot of american history to watch. I was with my father there, we are from Germany, and we have learnt a lot of new things. Great Museum!

Scott Mckinley

The model layout was great but the rolling stock out side are way too far gone to be on display

Kristin Marie

Great place for kids!

Kevin Obrien

Very nice displays and alot of useful information for youngsters to see just how an old railroad town like Elkhart contributed to the early automation of the national freight systems. More youngsters need to visit this museum. There's alot to learn.

Carol Orler

Very interesting. Lots to see. If you like trains it's the place to go in Elkhart, In. They are restoring the cars. Also there's a O guage railroad set up. AND it's not expensive!

A diamond in the rough of a museum that is saving vital history of Elkhart and the railroad that help support it.

Matthias Eichten

Excellent history, it was a cold day so I didn't get to see all the outside stuff

A lot of things to see here. Hands on and you are able to get into the engine and the cars to see the real operations. Many historical tools on display.

The National New York Central Railroad Museum is a remarkably interesting, informative, and fun place to visit. Getting to climb aboard the trains of ages past is like being swept up into a steam powered adventure. You will not be disappointed if you decide to cost the museum.

Jessica Gaffney

Mark Oliphant

Lots of displays and old cars to walk thru outside

Brian Ellis

This is really a fabulous museum for kids of all ages and adults too. Toy trains (table) for little kids. Electric trains to watch. And real trains to explore.

Michael Holdread

Bryan Schlipp Jr

Very nice museum! It is alot better than chesterton but this place has the worlds busiest yards in elkhart.

Nate Reynolds

My son absolutely loves visiting. There are lots of informative and interesting exhibits on display, as well as activities for children. The coolest inside exhibit by far is the gargantuan O-scale train set. It's also pretty neat that the museum located right next to a fairly busy active rail line so you get a lot close-up encounters with modern trains slowly lumbering by as you explore outside. The outside exhibits of retired engines and railcars is also pretty cool, especially since most are open to climb inside and explore. My only knock is that it's somewhat run-down. Broken and/or unfished exhibits have remained so since my last visit nearly a year ago. It also doesn't appear that much preservation effort is being dispensed on their deteriorating engines and cars, which is a bit sad to see.

Janiel Rinehart

Great museum for kids! The rail car facing main street, can also be rented for meetings, parties, get togethers...

Chris Hipsher

Pushed us out before closing time which was hard to explain to a three year old who wanted to see more. He loved what he was able to see.

Lois Strzynski

Best part of our trip. So much to look at and very interactive for the grandkids

Oppressed Exploited

My son's favorite place to visit - this place has so much going on, you literally cannot take it all in in one visit. Size wise it really isn't all that big but there are wall to wall exhibits, you can walk through and look inside old trains, box cars, and cabooses... They have a Thomas the Train Ride-On for smaller kids, a train table with a million pieces of trains and tracks for kids to play with, and the model train room is the coolest thing I've ever seen. We bought a year membership and I think we'll be doing that again this spring as I now have a new little guy that will love seeing everything!

Hannah Keen

Worth the price. Lots of displays. Fantastic model train sets of tracks and trains. Great steam engine outside you can walk through, but that part is not handicap accessible. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

David Miller

Nnycrrm is a fabulous place, especially for kids. Has a large and wonderfully detailed Lionel train city scape. Two amazing modem locomotives. One made of toothpicks and another a working steam engine. Lits to see. Climb aboard a real diesel engine and a steam engine. Worth the visit, especially when Santa and Mrs Claus showed up.

Josh Schmid

Excellent little museum with a large collection. Some of the rolling stock is one of a kind, with the 4-8-2 Mohawk on display being the last one in existence. Plus, how many museums actually let you go into the cab and engine compartment of a historic diesel locomotive?

The inside was wonderful. Everyone was very nice. Just wish they would do more with the cars outside instead of just letting them sit there and get rusty. They have all that land and opportunity to do so much with it.
