We went on a crazy hot day. This made the house crazy hot. But the last step in the house was the kitchen and that made it all worth it! Seriously, the sweat was pouring down all parts of me. My sunscreen was in my eyes. Joanna Hahn (I have her name written down but not in front of me and hope I'm remembering it correctly) was leading us through and just full of information. This was equally very old museum house and modern, interactive and informative. Great experience.

Clifford Nunn

Walking through history was informative and very revealing about our past in a good way. Our docent was knowledgeable and encouraged questions. Note the picture of the ropes and the Wooden Key on the bed. The ropes were the mattress on the beds in 1800s. Every night the Wooden Key was placed against the knob which are called a "bed bugs". Frequently fingers would get caught in the key when the mattress ropes were tighten hence the expression "don't the bedbugs bite."

Matthew Parker

This is an interesting part of American history. Many people risked everything to help enslaved people and this shares part of that story. Also, it is a very well preserved house and a beautiful new interpretive center.

Levi Coffin is part of my Heritage and I am very proud that my family helped to free the Slaves that SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN SLAVES OR ANY SLAVERY EVER ANYWHERE! My family was Quakers and did not believe in slavery thank God that they didn't. Because I think that I would not be proud of my heritage if they would have been slave keeper's! God bless all!

This is a wonderful place for a historical perspective of the Underground Railroad from a northern perspective. It offers a fantastic tour of this nearly 200 year old house built specifically for helping individuals making the travel from the South to freedom in Canada. Interactive museum exhibits help learners get a grasp on what it would be like be held in slavery and understand the horrible act that it was. Tour guides are incredibly knowledgeable and courteous. Highly recommend for all interested in learning about major historical events.

This place is a must-see. I reccomend for ages 7-77! (You do have to be able to walk up and down narrow stairs in the Coffin House, so 77 might be pushing it a little!) Take a tour by one of the very passionate and knowledgable volunteer tour guides. The lady who did our 4th grade tour had been doing it 40 years. Indiana made a very good decision in the 1960s to not let this place get torn down and a gas station built in its place! It's very humbling to stand on the very floors that a Freedom Seeker laid on. I was amazed at the courage of both the Coffins and the Freedom Seekers. The interpretive center next door was nice for restrooms, movie, gift shop, and a display upstairs, but the real treasure is the Coffin House.

Considered the Grand Central Station of the underground railroad, the Coffin house has a significant place in American history. The new visitors center next door give a film and a bunch of displays to provide background and context for the house tour.
