REVIEWS OF Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site IN Indiana

Marjorie Wisler

Gene Stratton Porter was a fascinating historical character, making this nature-lover's destination all the more enthralling. The wooded trails, lake views, and garden paths make for an enchanting day-visit. Ample seating placed across the premises makes it ideal for family visits involving children and folks who may need to take occasional breaks. Since it's so open and free, one can make a venture last just as long as desired. The house tour is very pleasant and educational, and don't leave without visiting the gift shop to help support the Historical Society! Not to mention the visitor's center wherein you are given even more opportunity to learn about surrounding eco-systems and additional historical factoids. The GSP Historical Site has become a favored location, personally, one which I make a point to visit at least annually. What a gem for our unique community!

Have been enjoying this place for many years. So sad to see that the flower gardens are not being maintained. Boat dock is also dilapidated. Still a nice place for a quiet moment to enjoy nature as Stratton-Porter once did.

I really like this place. My grandmother was raised on 9. I have been coming here since a teen now I'm 44. It has changed a lot over the years and it's not quite what I remember as a teen. A little bummed they took the ponds out and changed the pathway's a bit. But still a very nice, relaxing, comfortable place to come see. I will continue coming as long as I can. Can't beat the water from the artesian well

We had my daughters graduation Open House at Gene Stratton Porter this last weekend. WOW !!!!! WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE. Dave and Tiffany were awesome to work with, and the venue is A++++. We rented what they call an entire site rental. Which means we had access to the banquet room above the museum, they furnished the entire kitchen, tables, linens, serving equipment...everything. We also had a piano player on the front porch of Gene's cabin, and an ice cream sundae bar outside at the garden shed. They provide staff, a trolley ....everything you could possibly want. If you ever need a VENUE for anniversaries, graduations, small weddings, class reunions, or just 50 close friends...THIS IS THE PLACE. I can not express how wonderful this place is !!!!!!!

This is such an incredibly beautiful place. The gardens are kept very well and spring/early summer is a great time to check it out. No cost for admission to the gardens or short trails, but it does cost to tour the inside of the house.

I read A Girl of the Limberlost as a child so having the opportunity to visit the author's home was a real treat! We took the 90 minute tour with an awesome tour guide. He knew so much about Gene Stratton Porter and his fondness for her and her home shows in his presentation. It is a beautiful house and the setting would definitely be inspiring to a writer. The gardens are lovely so don't bypass strolling through. Well worth the cost of the tour but if you live in Indiana, check your local library for the Indiana State Museums pass and get in for free.
