REVIEWS OF Saint Louis Art Museum IN Illinois

Andrew Peake

It's an institution for a reason. St. Louis is blessed to have such a phenomenal art museum available free to the public. Considering that you can enjoy it alongside the rest of Forest Park (including the zoo) makes it a true treasure and a great place to spend a day regardless of your age. That being said, avoid the temptation to lick the oil paintings. The guards get a bit peeved if you do.

Brianna Goodrum

Pretty big. You cant see it all in one visit. I also like the new feature exhibits that the museum have throughout the year. Therealways something good to come back for... But you'll always have to fight for parking. Its work the extra hike.

PATRICIA Robinson

Sad but my fist time there beautiful amazing Art ill be going again soon

Woodie Sayles

This is a beautiful museum with many different exhibits. Also a great gift shop.

Patti Hornberger

I would definitely 'go again' to see the Gaugin exhibit!

Phillip Biggerstaff

A world class art museum in little old St. Louis, did I mention that general admission is always free, and even the traveling expositions are free on Friday.

January Danubio

This is a long story, so stick with me. My husband and I were in town visiting friends and I wanted to show him the museum where I spent so much time while I was in college. They had an exhibition of outsider art that we paid to see. It was fantastic! But a lot of it was very detailed so we had to get close to see how amazing it was. We didn’t even cross the little red lines around the art, but instead, leaned at the waist to get a better view. We were surprised when a guard came up behind us and shouted, “Let me see your hands!” He proceeded to follow us around at a very uncomfortable proximity. Because he was shadowing us, we decided to rush through the second half of the display and didn’t get to enjoy it. Seriously, we could have spent hours in there. It was that good. I was very upset by the experience. This was my museum. I had spent whole days in there sketching and writing papers on the different works of art and had never been hassled. I went to the desk and told someone what had happened. Whether she cared or not, she acted as if she did and gave us a box of greeting cards. We will never use the cards, (although they’re lovely) but that’s not the point. The point is, she could have been dismissive, or as suspicious of us as the guard was, but she wasn’t. She showed concern that we hadn’t had a good experience. This could have been a one star review, despite my years of wonderful memories. But one lady (probably a volunteer) made our day better and turned this into a five star review.

Valerie Cody

Beautiful place to visit with wide variety of art. Also provides one of the best views in Forest Park.

Barb Godwin

Great experience. Wonderful location and view. Fantastic Rembrandt Exhibition.

Peter Sullivan

I loved it! As a child my family would walk from Richmond Height and take art lesson. I always love the St. Louis Art Muesum. Had a wonderful lunch at the restaurant. Pete

Stephen Wiggins

Wonderful world class art museum! Featuring innovative powerful art that inspires and challenges. Free as well! Special exhibits free on Friday too!

keith baker

The art museum gives you a pleasant experience in art and culture from everywhere. The atmosphere is calm and inviting and if you are a photographer bring your camera just don't use a flash. It damages the art. Great places outside to shoot. The staff was friendly and the prices for the private exhibits are not bad.

David Collignon

Absolute best free show in the US. One of the top 10 art museums. Classy place to be and you can actually educate yourself.

Kirk Froehlich

Wonderful space, people and exhibitions. Restaurant is very good, too.

Loren Wesley Ackerman

If you're passing through Saint Louis, Missouri, stop on by! Come see some of the Earth's most Amazing Art! The staff is outstanding, and they have an amazing gift shop! If your stomach growls, they have a delicious menu too! If you plan ahead, you can find some awesome family fun. Please take the time to enjoy some beauty on a peaceful stroll across the park...

M Ivey

Always a fun experience. Friday is a great day to visit, you get a free admission to the featured exhibit. Parking can be a bit crazy

Lawrence Cole

Nice museum. Had works of some great artists. Had a fun time there.

Nick Walkenbach

Best art museum in the state. If you can go then absolutely go. There is a huge variety of art exhibits from architecture, to a whole gallery of impressionist art, ancient artifacts, and many more art things I know nothing about.

BRIAN LUCKADOO

Really interesting place. All jokes aside, it was probably the first time I had ever been exposed to some really great paintings and other works.

Zachary Park

Great place. Loved seeing the art restoration in the main entry!

Dennis Unverferth

Great place to visit and best of all it is free.

Yasmine Maynard

The St. Louis Art Museum was a great choice for a first date! Lots of stuff from the Edo era so that was cool. Although I didn't get to see everything I enjoyed the wide range of stuff from fine china to suits of armor.

Ashley Harris

Great place. Very helpful staff

Kerry Coyne

Very nice museum. Great art on display. A lot of religious themed artwork. Very clean and the live painters working on mural was neat to watch. Cannot beat the price either....free

Jeffrey P

The art museum is one of the best attractions in all of the famous Forest Park. It is free to visit and nearly every attraction within is also free. Sometimes there are special exhibits for a fee. One of the great things about the museum is that it is more than a collection of world art, but also of a variety of art styles and rich with historic artifacts and art as well. Parking in the garage is not free, but street and outdoor lot parking is free...if you can find a spot. The view from in the front of the building is epic so bring your camera.

NATALIE REDMOND

Love the Art Museum. I always go at different time exhibits change, enjoy learning about different artifacts and times in history.

Joshua Lolling

Great experience every time I go. Not enough people know about the amazing art at the St. Louis Art Museum. Pieces from Van Gogh, Pollock, and Grant Wood are proudly displayed.

Ben Gielow

Great events, a fabulous modern building, and an array of culture to absorb. Always worth it. I really enjoy spending time here when its unbearably hot outside.

Joseph Miller

One of the best gems of St. Louis, located in Forest park is another free museum that offers history in art. Good for your school to go on a field trip or just to visit. Decently sized and always rotating exhibits it provides something new every time. I came there for the Egyptian Sunken Cities exhibit and it was worth my money to see it and I enjoyed the art part, and since I’m a history nerd, I also enjoyed the history of learning about the history of these two Egyptian cities lost to the see and seeing artifacts discovered in the sea and learning about Greek and Egyptian Relations. When not paying for special exhibits it still boasts lots of good artwork, now people complain about Egypt but I don’t find much appeal in that society in terms of art, but I still enjoy it, they have good collections of furniture and rooms throughout history, ancient Americas and even the Greeks and some Egyptian stuff. Overall it’s free, so if you don’t like it just leave but I recommend this a stopping place in your tour of St. Louis, or if you live here I still recommend a drop by.

The most incredible free museum that I have ever been to! Its a place that you should try to visit if you ever find yourself in St. Louis!

Shane Banks

Had a great time viewing the Dutch art exhibit! The food at the Panorama was great as well.

casuelita de tamarindo

The Boat House is the right place to have lunch during summer. Every time I go, there is a waiting list but, it moves fast. Liked the club sandwich and the veggie wrap.

Christy Staab

Incredible! Simply and marvelously INCREDIBLE!....and FREE...let's not forget FREE!

Melissia Widger

Was wonderful all the items in it. My favorite was the native American items

Kevin Nevias

Awesome art museum and it's free! Lot's of interesting stuff in addition to paintings and sculptures.

Thomas Schultz

Some good stuff and a lot of stuff that only medical marijuana could make a man appreciate.

Char

Very extensive, enjoyed spending thr afternoon here.

Oscar Lopez

It's a lovely exhibit with a lot of informative exhibitions. One could really spend the whole day learning of past cultures.

Mark T

A great resource in St Louis. A very nice rotating collection from around the world. Always free with the exception of special exhibits which are free on Fridays.

betsy johansen

nice place to spend a whole restaurant os really good

Mary Singleton

It's hard to find words to describe the Saint Louis Art Museum experience. The building itself is art, with the original building having an older art feel and the additions being more modern. There is something for everyone here, from blocks and cubes to chairs made out of paper and old weapons. Of course they have plenty of paintings too, which is what I tend to think of with an art museum. We saw the Gauguin exhibit today and I learned a lot about his very interesting life as well as how he connected to some of the other impressionist artists. Who knew Gauguin made very unusual looking pottery and he referred to it as "monstrosities"? We will be back soon.

Megan Clark

This was the first real art museum I'd ever been to and WOW the collection is amazing! Unfortunately I went around 4:30 pm on a Tuesday so I couldn't stay to see the entire thing. But I was able to see all of the Renaissance art and a good chunk of the contemporary art. It was gorgeous and I could have spent hours in there just staring at the pieces by Claude Monet.

brian guthrie

1st art museum I've been to. A very cool place. There was a lot to look at.

Kate Rehagen

I love the Art Museum! I always feel classier whenever I go in there.

Mike Zollner

Good art at this 3 level museum inside forest park.

Malik L.

This museum is so amazing for a free museum! They constantly support local artists as well as featuring some classic art! Such a great addition to the city.

Phoenix Black

Amazing, free art museum open to the public. Very large, featuring a bunch of awesome art from all eras

Christopher George

My favorite museum in the country. The St Louis Art Museum is a focal piece along with the Zoo, the Jewel Box, the History Museum and the Science Center which make this -larger than central park- haven a fantastic place to visit. Go for special exhibits, art in bloom or even of the slam underground events. It's a beautiful place filled with amazing art. If you appreciate art you should definitely check it out.

GJM 0627

Beautiful setting in Forest Park. Architecture from 1904. Wonderful exhibits of all sorts of media and time periods. Free to visit entire museum but special exhibits charge a fee. Gift shops and restaurants are great, with reasonable prices.

Hez Parker

Very nice exhibits, a wonderful museum. Very little free parking and the garage parking is $15.00.

Lorenda Bennett

Very nice. I honestly didn't get to look as much as I would of like due to personal time restraints.

Matt Hitchcock

Free admission to a world class collection of art from some of the most well known artists - Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Rothko, Warhol, Rockwell, plus lots of other interesting artifacts from all parts of the world. The Egyptian collection on the 3rd floor with the interactive 3-D viewing screen is very interesting. The 3rd floor also offers some great pieces by native American artists. The museum also offers an ever changing series of special exhibits, which for a small fee, can be viewed. This museum is a gem and my wife and I often hop in for a few minutes whenever we are in Forest Park. The sculpture park in the rear of the museum is a pleasant stroll, especially in the spring and fall, and is often overlooked.

Rusty Lacy

Well put together displays and nice staff.

Sterling Parrack

Loved the collections. So impressive how it’s laid out and the courtyards are stunning. Oh, did I mention it was FREE!! We only made it through the 2nd floor. We will definitely be back & get a membership. Well done STL!!

Talise Swoope

Amazing Museum. I've been back 3 times since the first visit

Natalie Torrence

Beautiful museum for priceless artwork. Exciting exhibits and it’s all free! As a St. Louis native, it’s one of my favorites places to experience. Makes for an amazing solo trip to relax and reflect.

Adrienne White

LOVE. Peace SOUL .SO GOOD FOR YO MIND

Anthony Graybill

Great exhibits and friendly staff. Three levels of art with rotating pieces to keep each trip interesting and new.

Teresa Taylor

1st time there, so much at. Amazing experience

Laura Merciel

To me, the art museum is always an amazing place to go. I love the art and history behind it. I took my kids for a festival there and we all had a great time. They had craft stations and a live show. My kids enjoyed it and I will take them again.

Jeffrey Hill

A very high-quality collection in a beautiful building....highly recommended.

Cheryl Burguiere

This is a world-class art museum. We did a member tour & our guide was interesting, informative, & knowledgeable. If you are visiting St. Louis, I highly recommend you visit this FREE gem; if you're a St. Louis native, membership is affordable & well worth it.

Gweneth Johnston

Wonderful exhibit on Paul Gauguin! Of course, we had to visit the European painting galleries as well

Black

This place is awesome. One great part of St Louis is the amount of free admission places you can go. This is a definite must see. I am in no way an art enthusiast but it was fascinating to see the variety of art on display from around the world. Must see!

Amanda Sweetpeach

Beautiful museum, I took my cousin who is high functioning but has a learning disability and he stepped over the painted line on the floor the get a closer look at the picture due to eyesight issues, did not touch the picture or anything and a staff talked in an exceptionally loud voice to him to get behind the line. He looked at her and she repeated and pointed again loudly 2xs one after the other without letting him process the request. Very rude, unnecessary especially if you can tell someone has special needs. Not only that but the exceptionally loud use of her voice and her impatience that she felt the need to repeat the request in rapid fire 3xs in a row that was unnecessary . I've been to this museum several times. Some Their staff needs to be more patient dealing with situations especially if someone is not doing anything wrong.

Christopher George

Sierra Felice

I love all of the museums in St Louis, but this one will always be my favorite. Between the amazing exhibits and lovely architecture, the art museum will always be the best rainy-day (or week) activity .

Gavin A

Come here a lot! Love it. Great atmosphere and can really enjoy the artwork at my own pace. Cafe is a little pricey, but the people make it worth it.

moksha bahlevbjorg

This place is simply amazing. Incredible collection of art, in range and quality. The building itself is stunning, and in a beautiful location. The restaurant is great. Entrance is free. Could pass days here..

Fiona Southwell

Well worth a visit - great exhibitions of American art including indigenous art. Many special exhibitions are opened at regular intervals in the magnificent building. Make sure you check out the gift shops

LaVell Thompson, Jr.

This was such a wonderful time!!! I was actually here visiting with a friend. We had the most glorious time. I couldn't remember the last time I'd been here. There were so many galleries and exhibits to view. From early, sacred Renaissance works to modern, flashy works, this was a breathtakingly beautiful experience. If you are a St. Louis native, and you've never been here, YOUBARE MISSING OUT ON A COLOSSAL EXPERIENCE.

Que Ber

One of the best museums in the St. Louis area and I loved the Sunken Egyptian Exhibition

Annj Collins

The art museum held the High School graduation last weekend. Very well run Immaculate Auditorium. Beautiful building

Deborah M

I walked through the St Louis Zoo from the South entrance and out the North Entrance to this Art Museum on a rainy day. The museum’s docent ambassador, restaurant Chef, and Gift shop employees were extremely informative and helpful. I talked about the restoration project with Alan and he was one of the most helpful and kind people on my two day trip to this city.

Trinity Griffin

Just one of the awesome free experiences in the city. Love this place.

Catherine Domer

Enjoy bringing my older kiddos here to inspire them to be their own kind of creative beings. Not such a great place for littles, as there are too many things they can touch that you aren't allowed to touch. Keep a look out for different exhibits!

Brandon Williams

This Art Museum is well worth your visit if you are in Forest Park. The museum itself is huge and filled w so many interesting artifacts and pieces.

Rory Keylon

What a great place to spend a day. So much to look at the the view from the front steps is really nice. Take time to check to check out the gift shop too.

Keisha Russell

I took my son to observe some art. This was his first time going. He enjoyed himself! The environment was clean and quiet! I don't like how empty some sections were. It was creepy!!

Bill Breyer

Went to see the Paul Gaughan special exhibit, and it was excellent, didn't realize he worked in so many different media!

Amado Reyes

Can't believe this amazing place is free, good to spend time when the weather is not in your favour - very informative, educational and the staff are very courtious and friendly!!

Kexi Jin

It’s a medium-sized museum with a nice view outside. Most of the galleries inside are free, except for some special ones. Too bad it doesn’t have a decent collection of Egyptian exhibits.

Diane Ellis

We were walking In Forest Park and decided to stop by the Art Museum. To our surprise, the museum was free! The museum consists of three floors. There are many famous original paintings displayed. There is a line in front of each painting that consists of different colored wood. You are supposed to stay behind this line and of course there is no touching of the paintings. We had an amazingly fun time and would recommend this Art Museum to anyone who loves fine original paintings. While you are there, walk around Forest Park, it's well worth your time.

Marvin Roberts

The SLAM has a very extensive and eclectic collection! Well worth your time to go visit!

David White

Desk staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Art and architecture were beautiful. Museum security staff was extremely rude when we got near (not over) one of the pieces of tape on the floor. Instead of walking over and speaking politely to us like any civilized person would, he made the decision to raise his voice from across the room. Someone should explain to the hourly staff that working at an art museum is different than being security at a bar or gas station. In some environments, people expect you to have a bit of class and composure. Disappointing to have a beautiful experience tainted by an interaction with such a disgusting individual, but still a good museum overall. The art is worth tolerating the people.

Donnie Copeland

Can’t wait to go back. This is a great museum with a quality collection. The grounds are beautiful, be sure to check out the sculpture outside.❤️

Jane Humphrey

So many interesting and beautiful things to see!

Anna Miller

Love looking at the variety of art and dance performances tonight. Learned about Paul Gauguin. His life and more of his art than I have ever seen before. A bit irritated with the docents who kept calling me back for being too close to the art. How am I to study the brush strokes if I cannot get close? I mean really how am I going to hurt a painting that is behind glass by being several inches away from it?

Kelly Robertson

Great learning experience for my family. Even my young handycap son had fun learning.

Zac Farmer

FREE ART Public parking Frequent new exhibits There’s really no way to beat SLAM a one of a kind treat to the art world and the StL area. Not only is it free, which is not common, but it’s a beautiful wealth of knowledge and history of our world. It’s worth the stop, detour, or destination and can almost certainly brighten any day if you take a moment to look around and read the descriptions.

Morgun Yogore

The Saint Louis Art museum is an absolutely adorning assemblage of history and art. Walking through the doors, you’re immediately taken aback by the grandeur of the building Itself. Strolling the corridors and exhibits makes you feel as though your walking back through time and history, taking a small piece of humanity’s shared appreciation of beauty, and carrying it forth with you. It is a place where not only does the Art feel timeless, but I feel communally proud of what we can accomplish.

Beverly Shaw

Thoroughly enjoyed this collection housed in an incredible building. I remember going as a kid and loving the Egyptian collection which I still enjoy. But the contemporary art is so fun and exciting! And the sculpture garden is contemplative. Sweet!

Kayak Joe

Exceptional experience! Good service and friendly staff. Hard to find a proper parking spot if you came late.

A Sweeny

It is always a pleasure to visit SLAM. Our favorite event each year is Art in Bloom, but we have also been fortunate to attend a few lectures and, of course, special exhibits. I love all the ways they have to engage kids and families. I really can't say enough about what an enriching experience it is to visit. We are proud members!

jerome bethel

Great art! All the great artist represented EXCEPT Salvador Dali!!! Not a Dali in the house. Statuesque building with lots of galleries to roam. Definitely an all day adventure for sure. The American Art exhibit shows some incredible glass bead works done by Native Americans.

Roxana Ortiz

Another museum I loved visiting. The art exhibits were more on the modern side but loved seeing it all. Loved the metal tree outside on the grass, that was probably my favorite but also loved the roman part of the exhibit. The building also very beautiful. You cannot go in with water and they will tell you that as you enter the building so drink up before going in. Had very clean restrooms which is always great and it is free to go in. They do have a gift shop if you want to grab a little souvenir. The only thing I thought was a little odd was that one of the security guards seemed to be following us around but I think its probably a normal thing so as to protect the art. Loved the view from the outside towards the pond in the front. Awesome place to go to!

Lupe Gonzalez

This is a world class art museum in the middle of Forest Park (which is a world class wonder in itself). Free admission allows you to stay for a few minutes or navigate the collections for the entire day. Be sure to stop at the front desk and ask about docent led tours, a great way to better understand the collection in a short amount of time. One of the best place to visit. There were many activities that were happening at the same place. It is a must visit for a visitor.

Pete Zimmer

Always a worthwhile visit. And it's always Free!

James Hamilton

Very impressive museum and it’s free! Everything from a large mark Rothko painting, picasso,s, abstract art and much much more. Highlight recommend.

Daniel Massey

An amazing art museum. It has a fabulous selection from all over the world. It has man classic peices. It has paintings and photos and sculptures galore. It always has a great touring exhibit that is free on Fridays. The staff are very friendly and professional. There are bathrooms and I believe most things are handicap accessible. I would be a little weary of bringing little kids. Overall it's a must see for Saint Louis. There is a lot of open space so it never feels too crowded. I will keep going for years to come!

Jimmy Valentine

Great museum, always updating. It houses many great works of art.

Lilian Dodenhoff

Wonderful. StL is so lucky this is free, it's an extraordinary museum with a lovely cafe. The monthly events are wonderful and my favorite annual event is Art in Bloom. Thanks for being a community location. Everyone should feel welcome to see art and we are so lucky this place is accessible.

Thomas Cheng Pai

Excellent, quite impressive collection of historic pieces of art from quite a few different times and origins. Deninately a place to visit and spend a few well spent hours.

Julie Haegele

Beautiful galleries, gorgeous building, wonderful exhibits and great folks to help you. It is a great asset to the St. Louis area and the state.

Mary Middleton

Our group enjoyed the variety of art displays. We were able to watch a large piece being restored when you first walked in the building. We were handed a map which helped to find certain interest and our way through the gallery. It is worth the trip and time. They also have a small cafe in the basement.

Silverthorne Kallis-Nicholson

Lovely exhibits, friendly and helpful staff, but it does take quite some time to go through especially with a young child. Might want to make it a 2 day excursion.

Jessica C

Beautiful and quiet. We had a nice date here while we took shelter from the heat. All the exhibits were interesting and full of history.

Lynn Hansmeyer

Lots of beautiful old art here, need more than an afternoon to get through it all.

Chris Ollendick

Spent like 3 hours in this place and still not sure that we saw everything its massive. There are so many amazing things to see

jerome bethel

Great art! All the great artist represented EXCEPT Salvador Dali!!! Not a Dali in the house. Statuesque building with lots of galleries to roam. Definitely an all day adventure for sure. The American Art exhibit shows some incredible glass bead works done by Native Americans.

Charley Clarissa

There are so many floors of art and relics. As long as your kids are old enough to look not touch then it's ok for them to visit. We spent about two hours taking in the museum and easily could have stayed longer.

Dave Chadwick

Outstanding Museum. Architecturally the building is stunning and they have a nice sampling of many fine arts. Doesn’t hurt that it’s located in lovely Forest Park. Was there on a weekend and finding parking was a challenge. And, while I understand Chicago is much larger, it’s no Art Institute. Although, by the same token, the Art Institute is no Louvre.

Zane Hrubey

Saint Louis's art museum is a great gem in the middle of Forest Park. My wife and I really enjoyed our visit, especially the period rooms that are reconstructed to demonstrate different eras in design. The staff were super friendly and very helpful in answering our questions.

Julie Richards

I get bored quickly looking at many of the same exhibits that have been there nearly a year now or more. The place is supposed to be haunted but to this day never encountered any ghost, caught unexplained noises or such on audio, or seen anything happen there.

Mandy McCoy

Love ate history. And art gallery

taliessa jones

This was one of the greatest art museums that I have visited in a while. Everything is free except for special exhibits, but those are also free on Fridays! Like it is inscribed on the side of the building: Art still has truth, have refuge in that.

Maurice Meredith

The St. Louis Art Museum was fantastic to day the had a Jazz and poetry performance. With jazz great Keyon Harrold and poet Quincy Troupe. The show was fantastic.

Andrea Blackburn

It's the best that the midwest can do. Located near zoo. Free admission on Friday. Exhibits from all over the world.

Duane Kleinhardt

For a free museum, it's big and has a very nice collection.

Robert Phillips

Great place to spend the day....they charge too much for their exhibits.

Andrew Darling

This art museum is free, but it's also huge. They have paintings from Picasso, Monet, and many other great artists. Ceramics, weapons, furniture, and sculptures fill every room of this museum. Its clean and calm. Museum staff patrol the galleries. The basement, main floor, and upper floor will keep even a brisk mover occupied for at least 2 hours. Slow viewers could stay and enjoy all day. Great place for a date. A must see in St. Louis. Even better, there is a rotating exhibit you can pay to see to help support the museum.

Nothanael Leon

Greatest visited. Excellent collection

Kay Hinkle

Came here last year for the Egyptian Exhibit and loved it.

Lanell 4Keeps

Absolutely beautiful place. I spent the entire day here. I was mesmerized by all the great artist paintings.

Greg Johnson

The St Louis Art Museum is definitely worth the visit. Outdoor parking is free. On a rainy day, you can park underground for $15 ($10 for Museum supporting members). There's a nice coffee shop and a gift shop that are both quite nice.

Justin Helm

Incredible selection of pieces from many different styles and mediums.

April Rinaldi

Gaugan exhibit great. No other cities have free admission. Best ever

Cynthia Ford

The location was picturesque. Do not park in the museum parking lot. There is adequate parking on the street and across the street, there is a small free parking lot. Staff were friendly. Nice selection of artwork. I attended the Gaughan exhibit. The exhibit had a cross section of paintings, textiles, ceramics in the exhibit.

Britt-Marie Montemayor

This is a favorite Art Museum. The lay out of the exhibits is excellent. The works displayed are an excellent representation of a variety of periods and styles. Beautiful location as well.

Nathan Byrd

I feel kinda weird reviewing an Art Museum, as I am by no means an artist or art critic. But as a layperson, I'd highly suggest visiting the Saint Louis Art Museum when you make a visit to STL. Like many things in Forest Park the Art Museum is free admission. The decor is beautiful and the artwork even more so. Also if you visit in the winter time try to find some spare sleds and head to art hill right in front for some great sledding. Also, for locals don't forget there are other events that happen at the Art Museum too, for instance I've been a few times to music performances and kids events.

Umar Lee

Always enjoy visiting the St Louis Art Museum. Many people in St Louis don't realize what a treasure it is to go to a world class museum with free admission.

Diana Floyd

This is another of St Louis gems. Free admittance and the exhibits are usually very interesting. I was able to view the van Gogh exhibit awhile back. He is a personal favorite. I could get close enough to view it so as to absorb each nuance.

Tonetta Clay

The Art Museum is located on Forest Park and the admission is free. If you love art you'll love all of the galleries that are in display. Parking is plentiful paid and unpaid lots. There's elevators, gift shops and a restaurant inside for all to enjoy. They always have SLAM on every Friday where they're open late until 9pm. The exhibits are free as well as the activities for the night. This place is family friendly.

Robert F. Buchanan

Van Gogh's "Stairway at Auvers" is in my view his best work. Vibrant, decisive brush strokes pierce the soul.

Roxana Ortiz

Another museum I loved visiting. The art exhibits were more on the modern side but loved seeing it all. Loved the metal tree outside on the grass, that was probably my favorite but also loved the roman part of the exhibit. The building also very beautiful. Loved the view from the outside towards the pond in the front. Awesome place to go to!

Catherine Alderman

A wonderful and well maintained, beautiful in every way building and museum. We came into St Louis Friday evening and were excited that the museum is open late on Fridays. Even with tired kids after a long drive we still walked around for over two hours, and we still didn't see everything. The free admission facilitates such casual comings and goings, which also is good with children who may get bored after a few hours. We will definitely be back!

The Saint Louis Art Museum is a treasure! Along with it's huge array of art from all eras, it frequently hosts special exhibits and experiences. The building itself is quite beautiful, and is maintained immaculately by the staff.

One of my favorite places to visit in St Louis. The museum underwent a large expansion a few years ago and it's only gotten better. The main building dates back to the 1904 World's Fair and it beautiful. I love being in the main galleries and hearing the wood floors creak. It is free to visit. If you park in the parking garage there is a fee, but if you don't mind walking, you can park along the roads and that's free.

Thomas Randolph

I love this Art museum. I went and saw the Ming Dynasty display on loan from China & plan on going to the Rembrandt displays this year. Every single member of the staff is knowledgeable, helpful, & polite. The thing that REALLY stands out for me is the fact they will stay in the background while you look at/discuss the exhibits (I have a degree in military history & my wife has on in museum science) but if you want to talk to them about a particular piece with them, they all seem knowledgeable and (importantly) PASSIONATE about the pieces. We are going again very soon because our 10 year old daughter was upset she didn’t go. We will end becoming members soon.

Mark Freemantle

Fantastic museum with a lot to see. We could have spent a whole day or more here and still not have seen everything. Love the way special exhibitions are added on a regular basis. There is a charge to see these but the rest of the museum is free.

Michael Ayres

One of the very best must see stlo attractions.

Meaghan Harned

The fact that our world class museum is free all year should not lead one to think it is somehow not worth visiting - prepare to be impressed!

Andrew Cooper

Really cool. I only went to see the Manet but spent ages looking at everything from suits of armour, moccasins, full recreations of historic interiors and a nice furniture selection. They’ve a great collection of Beckmann and some decent American art I didn’t know. They give too much wall space to abstract and abstract expressionism, but it’s their thing. I wish the Native American exhibit was honest about the reason for their demise. I’ve seen multiple holocaust museums in the states, but the American Indian genocide is conveniently ignored. But it’s a really cool museum and really worth a visit, very relaxed, welcoming and interesting.

Brandon Curry

How many world class art museums are free? Doesn't matter, this one is the best. Beautiful building filled with premier art from so many eras. Plenty of great monthly events too!

ADAM KAETER

Great place to bring the family. They have a wide variety of art types. Would strongly recommend.

Tracey Campbell

My honey and I went there for our 6th anniversary. Though it doesn't compared to the art museum in Kansas City, it was amazing. Saw an amazing exihibitfot free as it was for free Friday.

Chad Harsy

Awesome place to let your mind wonder and/or ponder! Very well organized and clean!

Jack Vandegriffe

Always awesome to go here and see the new exhibits and all the art and sculptures. If you haven’t been here yet, go right now. If you’ve already been, go again.

Joel S

One of the best art museums I've been ever been to. Interesting and changing collections, with ancient to modern pieces.

I've traveled far and wide, and frankly there is not another museum that compares with the Saint Louis Art Museum! Is simply amazing the amount of high-quality artwork featured in this Museum, I highly recommend it!

Elvis Kong

I LOVE this museum. It's MASSIVE. It's classy. It's comfortable. You need a week to see everything

Wyxyr

Paintings are amazing, helpful guides, and awfully polite employees and usually customers. Was there for the van Gogh's paintings and they did not disappoint. All the exhibits were beautifully crafted, especially the recreated rooms.

Christopher Durkin

Wonderful and extensive museum. Appreciate the brief explanations hung up next to each piece of art- makes them that much more accessible.

Nancy Miller

Very great museum. No entry fee and terrific staff, minus a gruff middle aged 50-60 yr old woman with shorter brownish blonde hair on the 2nd floor who seemed preoccupied by some outlying factor in her life. Other than that it was perfect. Even the parking garage was immaculate. Plus, we it's part of the reciprocity program with ROAM, so I was able to park in the garage for only $5. What a blessing since it was absolutely pouring!!! Go enjoy an incredible collection.

Jeff Merritt

First off it's FREE!! You'd think must be subpar if it's free right...think again. Amazing artifacts from ancient Sumar, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Persia. Paintings from all periods. Amazing art and sculptures from South America, South Pacific, Africa, Asia on and on....

Melanio Enero

Great collection. And it's free. Easily spend 3 or more hours here.

Jaricel Roman

Plenty of exhibitions for different artworks and histories. Some staff are interactive with the visitors and other are not. Loved that they had art restoration on display.

Brian Parker

SO much to check out! Go a little early because there is a LOT to see at this museum. I could spend all day here. Can't beat the free admission, either.

Rebecca Johnson

Amazing museum. There is a ton to see here and you could spend the entire day here. We dined at the cafe for lunch and it was delicious. They have a range of tasty soups, salads, and sandwiches plus fruit, wine and beer. The exhibits were very enjoyable and there was many different era's and styles to see. Literally something for everyone. You can pay to park or park on the street for free. The view of Forest Park from the museum is also beautiful.

S Muel

I've been to several big museums like this around the country, but I'm far from an art expert. This is one of the best museums, art or otherwise. It's always clean and nicely organized. The museum itself is free, but they do occasionally bring in temporary exhibits that sometimes require a paid ticket. They have a free parking lot across the street, and a paid for garage under the museum. Of all the places in Forest Park, parking here is actually pretty reasonable.

Rosemary Watson

Nice little free museum. I didn’t get some of the art, but enjoyed walking round the exhibits. It has a nice little coffee shop, with snacks and beer and wine. There was one exhibit that you could pay to see, but we skipped it.

yl b

It was nice an assortment of activities. They had a DJ a band arts and crafts. They had someone deliver a speech on some of the artwork. They also had it set up for u 2 do your own.

Ada Ezenwa-Autrey

Always beautiful. Love walking through each floor looking at exhibitions (old and new).

I love this Art Museum. First of all you cannot beat free. I love going to Forest Park. I love how St Louis is one of the last cities in the entire country that still has a free Zoo, free Science Center, free Art Museum, and a free History Museum. I took my husband and son to the Art Museum because my husband hadn't been there in 30 years and my son had never been there. So of course I wanted to show him the mummy exhibit. This time I was there they had three mummies. Also they're so fascinating to look at now that they have this new interactive exhibit in which you can see what the mummy looks like from the inside they took an x-ray of it and put it in this interactive computer that you can touch and spin around and see the skeleton from all different kinds of angles you can learn what they use to embalm how they stuff the bodies and took the organs out it's pretty fascinating to learn about how different cultures and they buried their dead back in ancient Egypt. It's so fascinating. Also I wanted to see the famous haunted mask. AKA Bob or at least that's what the museum curators call the exhibit but I was disappointed because he was not on display but that's another story. The Art Museum it's never the same. You can go back once a month and the exhibits will always change and move around. The art museum does a great job at keeping people interested by always having changing exhibits. I feel very blessed to be living in St Louis. We have so much fun stuff to do here and we sometimes take advantage of the fact that stuff here is free so when you go to Sainthood Louis ground when you get back. LOL it's so expensive there.

Clare Lynd-Porter

I took my 4 year old godson to the family day on a Sunday. It was great. So easy and comfortable. We will go back! And it's so nice to know that it happens every week!

Morgie Felt

We came for the Pompeii exhibit. Although it was very interesting and humbling I thought it was a bit overpriced.

Ryan Winner

Amazing!!! Beautiful art and set-up. The museum is so clean and easy to navigate.

walle grant

St Louis is amazing for the free museums that they offer. This is amazing for the city. I highly recommend it.

Tracey Martin-Trone

It had been 20 plus years since we had been to the art museum. It was a wonderful experience. The restaurant food was delicious. We will be back again soon.

Linda Mitchell

I love visiting The St. Louis Art Museum. They always have travelling exhibits; the one I just visited was Paul Gaugain, and they have historical artifacts as well as gorgeous artwork.

Jane Gwaltney

It's a local treasure, built for the 1904 World's Fair. Admission: free. Atmosphere: priceless.

Mark Freemantle

Fantastic museum with a lot to see. We could have spent a whole day or more here and still not have seen everything. Love the way special exhibitions are added on a regular basis. There is a charge to see these but the rest of the museum is free.

This museum is a cant miss experience in the heart of St. Louis’ world famous Forest Park. In a thoughtfully renovated neoclassical building, the setting couldn’t be more brilliant for a carefully curated collection of Art spanning genres and time, there is something for every art lover in this massive museum. On my first visit to the museum i was lucky to take an hour long curated tour with one of the many volunteers, she took her time to address our questions, and gave a detailed account of the history of the museum and its collection. An unforgettable experience every time.

Anne Kiske

The St Louis Art Museum should be counted as one of the premier museums of the world. The collection is impressive And beautifully displayed in a lovely building. The restaurant is delightful, and able to accommodate dietary restrictions And allergies. And admission to the museum is always free! Parking is free but you may have a bit of a walk.

Sara Drake

I had some time to kill while visiting STL so decided to stop by because the museum is free. It’s an impressive museum with beautiful artwork! I chose not to buy a ticket for the special exhibit and still had plenty to see. I spent about 2.5 hours here, but you could easily take your time and spend all day here. My favorite part of the museum was the period rooms. Beautiful building, great visit.

Elmo Coleman

A beautiful place to go and visit a must-see

Susan Mueller

Wonderful place to visit! Enjoying the variety and quality of the art works is special experience.

Zerk Clinseales

We love everything about the STL Art Museum. The permanent collection is world-class, the curators host diverse & interesting traveling shows, and the building itself - originally the "Palace of Fine Arts" during the 1904 World's Fair - is perched atop a scenic hill overlooking St. Louis's magnificent Forest Park. When our kids were younger, they loved wandering into the museum for an hour or two in between hot summer day activities in the park. Now that they are older, we still love popping in to see the new exhibits and to have lunch at their fabulous restaurant. It's an easy place to get to, and there's a lot more to do within walking distance if you want to spend the day in & around the park.

Vasu M

Excellent museum! Never expected them to have so many historic items. Quite a big collection as well.

Aaron Whitfield

This place is so cool. When I went, which was on a Sunday I think, entrance was free but you could pay to go to a couple other additional areas. I spent a few hours here during my visit but you could easily spend half a day here. There's also free parking in the area!

Phillip Michaels

Enjoyed our visit to the art museum yesterday. However, there is so much walking I should have taken advantage of the wheelchairs they have available to make the visit less stressful.
