We went to see the dog tags of the fallen soldiers. They aren't there anymore. They've been moved to downtown Chicago :(

When you go there, remember it is about veterans working through their life experiences. I found it a great exhibit and the staff on site were very nice people to talk to. They have events at this museum, I would recommend of you have a chance to attend one and show your support for these men and women whom have given you the freedom.

It's a small museum but the expositions are really meaningful. The staff is so nice.

This place took our breath away. Being a military family, seeing the photos and paintings brought tears to my eyes. We were sad to find out that the dog tags display is NOT at this place, but at a library in downtown Chicago. Otherwise, this was such a great place to visit and look around.

Great neighborhood museum in portage park celebrating art exclusively created by veterans. Exhibits are always thoughtful and unique.

Johnny dabney

First class museum with knowledgeable staff. This place isn't just a stuffy museum. There's modern artwork that is done by great artists.

Will Sterrenberg

Sombering yet educating. Plus a suprise bonus was this was free. Some of the work and pictures were not child friendly due to the nature of war but i was Very happy to viait. The exhibit to honor those killed in vietnam via the dog tag display was at the public library downtown so a second trip is needes to see it all. Definately a Must stop for history and military buffs.

Just left after bringing a group of high school students from my War Literature class. Brandon and Andy were knowledgeable, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. We were also able to hear from Maurice, a Vietnam Veteran. This was a very meaningful experience and I can't wait to bring another group of students. I wish they had more space to display all of their artwork.

It is hidden in the building, but is a must see if your in the area. It's nice to see the thought process of our veterans, and had really interesting and nice art. The lady working there was super polite, kind and helpful, which I really appreciated.

It seems little is known about this wonderful museum on the north west side of the city, at Irving Park & Cicero, but it's definitely worth visiting. As you can imagine, the artwork is powerful & moving, no matter what your views or experiences are related to war, service, or being a veteran. The artwork is well done, spans many different war experiences, and includes installations that are so great they must be experienced. I went when they had an artist set up in the museum, working in a "living studio," where you could watch her work or join her to create a collaborative piece. I'm looking forward to seeing what they will do next - they're so creative.

It's awesome to see all of the different types of art work in this museum that were created by veteran artists. I especially like the part of the museum that is based off of the book "The Things They Carried", which is super interactive and you can get a glimpse of what it was like for the soldiers in the Vietnam War.

I just came home from a wonderful exhibit at the museum. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. I will be telling everyone about this small but important museum. A most interesting way for veterans to express themselves. Thank you for serving our country!

Very cool, and free

We are all stars, just look at the logo. Proud to have served and proud to continue. I have to admit I am a bit prejudiced as I have been a member of the collection since about 1982. The museum contains artworks of all points of views about war the the experience of being in them. Some you will like, some you might not but all you will experience. Powerful stuff. Mike Helbing

I didn't know this museum existed, but after seeing it on Google Maps I wanted to stop by. Admission to NVAM is totally free; I do recommend showing supporting with a small donation or purchasing something from the shop. The space is smaller than expected, but it's filled with a variety of art and you can spend quite a bit of time going through everything. My husband and I spent about an hour and a half and the location wasn't crowded at all so we didn't feel rushed at all. If you're already going to be in the area or you're another Chicago vet looking for a cool museum, I highly recommend this place. :)

There is a lot of variety here. My daughter and I learned a lot and really enjoyed our visit. They put up new exhibits up every six months so we will be back.

Very small but free/accepts tips as admittance.
