REVIEWS OF Historic Auto Attractions IN Illinois

Loved this museum! I recommend a visit when you're in the area. Once you step inside, you'll be surprised at the well thought out displays that feature not only a great collection of vehicles, but historical memorabilia. There is also White House furnishings, First Lady gowns, wax figures, and the Lincoln section off the gift shop is also a treasure by itself.

Adam Rohacs

This is one of the strangest and most interesting museums I have visited. Yes, there are cars, but they are there as parts of exhibits, like Bonnie and Clyde, The Kennedy Assassination, presidential caravans (current one includes a car used during the campaign and a wax figure of Trump), a host of wax figures of past presidents, a classic TV exhibit, a history of Nascar exhibit, wax figures of dictators through history , really creepy 1940s Germany exhibit, plastered with disclaimers that it does not represent the museum views, and there is a very nice Abe Lincoln exhibit. The turn off the highway is easy to miss so keep your eyes peeled. Don't miss this one if you find yourself in Beloit, IL.

Mike Decker

This is always an entertaining trip. I confess to having some reservations as to the authenticity of some of the exhibits but, nonetheless, it's very entertaining.

Coppington Farnham

This has to be one of the best museums of its type in the whole country...the outside of the place looks like an industrial building...looks are deceiving. I was expecting strictly an auto museum like the one in Volo, IL. I was more than pleasantly surprised at the tons of pop culture items on display here....not just cars. And the cars are ones of historic significance, not just examples of old cars. The place is big, and worth the trip. I'm planning on going again....there is just so much stuff to look at. I only found out about the museum through a pamphlet at an antique mall, so more advertising and a name change would really up the admissions. As others have said, this is a pretty well hidden gem.

Jason Shapiro

This place is unbelievable. I never in a million years expected to see any of the exhibits they have, let alone in rural Illinois. Today I saw things ranging from Kennedy's funeral flag, to Hermann Goering's cyanide capsule, to original WWII surrender documents, to Hitler's actual parade car, to Stalin's limo, and many many more. I will remember visiting this museum for the rest of my life. Be sure to talk to Tony for fantastic guided tours and stories. You will not be disappointed!

Rob Wilhelmi

Truly an amazing collection of cars and nostalgia! Be sure to inquire with the curator Tony for more details on the items and his in-depth and meticulous research behind them! Definitely allow yourself time to take everything in. Although the overall museum isn't extremely large, the collection of small items and support nostalgia is extensive and very well presented. Something for all ages and perfect for a family activity.

Did not know this place existed

With a group of 40 on a destination trip last Sunday. We thought it was only a bunch of classic cars. It is more a time capsule of history in a collections that Wayne the owner has accumulated over 20 years. Tony, our guide, with his total recall of facts, gave great insight into the varied collection for old west to our current president. The staging is very professional, clean and easy to walk through- allow at least 1-2 hours for your first time. Bat mobiles to President Kennedy cars with a ton of race cars and history in between- easy to get to off of major highways. Price reasonable and great fun to return.

Jeffrey Jackson

Stuff in there you'll never see elsewhere. Worth the trip everytime I go. Ask Tony any questions about the artifacts. His knowledge on the history of each item is amazing

Nice place, lot to learn,

Tracy Wolter

We visited the historic auto attraction in roscoe il on june 30th. From the outside it dont look like much but when you get on the inside a flood of history comes at you. Tony the curator had tons of knowledge and stories to tell about how all items came to this hindden diamond. We figured maybe a half hour would fly by well we were there for 2.5 hours well worth the time to stop in and see this wonderful gem. There is something for everyone. I plan on going again real soon. Just to see the stuff i may have overlooked. Call ahead and ask for Tony Farrell if you want a tour he can meet you there. No time better then the presant to take a trip into the past. 5 stars across the board. Tracy

You have to love the passion of one person creating a place like Historic Auto Attractions. Buddy Holly's sunglasses were a highlight for me. Great collection of interesting things.

barbara kolowski

Visited this wonderful museum summer of 2012 and was amazed at how much history is there. Well worth the trip. Grew up in Chicago area and never knew it was there. They even have a section for stock car racing.

Off the beaten path, and full of fascinating facts and trivia about American and world history. Start in the 1800's, progress through items owned by famed gangsters Bonnie and Clyde, check out articles of clothing worn by Elvis, Patsy, Marilyn and James (Dean), then move into the world of our presidents and other world leaders, most of whom are represented by lifelike wax figures. The stories of many of these leaders include their actual bullet proof and secret service cars on display (I especially appreciated Stalin's 3-in thick glass windows). Of course there's a wing devoted to car racing, but also a wing dedicated to favorite TV shows including Batman, All In the Family, The Jeffersons, and Bonanza. Ask for a tour from Tony; you will have all the information you will ever need!

Jim Hardt

Very interesting displays.

Baloys Villaverde

Excellent attraction. Multiple exhibits for various types of interests. My kids enjoyed viewing Jackie Kennedy's clothing, the White House exhibit and the Elvis Presley exhibit. I enjoyed seeing someone I knew in the Illinois Stock Car Hall of Fame, Joe Finn from Stockton.

Great place

Ken Ring

Unbelievable place. Living here all my life but didn't know such a remarkable place was in my own background. A must see.

Philip R

What a collection of artifacts from and surrounding history! Significant to me was the President Kennedy assassination items, and the Lincoln room. It does feel a bit overwhelming to see the entirety of the collection, but it is well worrh your time to see this museum. Quite the revelation how people can grab items for souvenirs at a significant historical event.

Sam Gundersen

Gloria Lopez-Cordle

A must place to see, fantastic!

Mark Bolen

Riley Douthit

Incredible selection of very cool historic items.

Zoran Djuric

This is a very nice car museum. This is located just north of Rockford IL. Standard adult admission is $15. The museum is CLOSED during the winter months. If you are into cars and have a day where you got nothing planned this is a good place to visit. The building is a large plan metal warehouse BUT it is loaded with different type of cars. There are movie cars, presidential cars, and different types of racing cars. If you are into cars this is a place that is worth the visit.

Thorfinn Frisken

I stopped in to check it out and was amazed on how much there was! It was so much more than cars. I will definitely be back!

Leane Stolk

It is extraordinary. I was so surprised by the items we saw. We will be going back and take family and friends with us. I believe everyone should go and see it. Especially on the weekends when Tony the historian is there. He will give you a tour if you want or you can explore on your own but he is there to answer any questions. I can't wait to go back.

Carla Lott

My son, granddaughter and I went today and it was fascinating. We spent 3 hours. Tony Farrell, the resident expert, kept us eager to learn more. If you go, be sure to visit with Tony.

John Fischer

Awesome, friendly place! A must see. Wide varieties. And Tony was very nice to talk to, lot's of information. Will be back.

Richard Glass

A great auto museum better than Volo

Nathan Butterick

Such a variety of things to see here. What a great surprise to see all the items here

RoseMarie Crichton

A lot of interesting things besides cars.

Suzy Dominguez

You should come to see these beautiful cars

Gezer Hernández

Nice place to hang around

Donna Schmitt

Great all around historical museum. Lots of authentic vehicles and historical information regarding many aspects for Presidents, WWII, movie and TV vehicles. Along with that, lots of famous outfits, guns, and furniture from different eras. Come on Saturday and Sunday and a historian is available for many stories behind the collection.

Austin Stroming

Very cool place, they have a wide variety of things from western to the presidents to cars to Elvis. You can definitely spend quite a few hours here and not see it all.

David Morton

Jennifer Ondrejka

The name is misleading. Historic Auto Attractions is much more than cars. It's s celebration of America and Americana. There are cars galore, but they're surrounded by exhibits that bring the owners and the times to life. Cars of the stars are surrounded by their owners clothing, photos, guitars, etc. Stars of historical figures are surrounded by photos (often bigger than life) and extensive information. In addition, there are exhibits on all the U S Presidents, with detailed information on President Kennedy, Jackie, and their families.

Christopher Nash

Great place for fascinating history artifacts and cars! Was pleasantly surprised when I walked in to find how well laid out the museum was. Tons of history displayed in a way that grabs your attention!

Cherri Beaulieu

This was an amazing experience! I could have stayed all day! Tony was absolutely amazing to talk with and had knowledge of every artifact! Thank you Tony!! This is a MUST see if you are in the area (or even if you aren't)!!! There are so many things to see here, cars, racing, movie artifacts and so many wonderful historical artifacts! We are 7 hours away and we will be back! Can't wait for your expansion!!

B P

This place is amazing and so full of cool vehicles and other historic relics!!! You need to go!!

Peter Brooks

Probably the best private collection of Hollywood memorabilia and automobile sales in the Midwest.

Paul Layendecker

Hidden gem! Not just cars, SO much more! This collection will amaze!

Allison Lindrum

Great museum. Food sucks.

Ally Limke

Wonderful hidden gem in Roscoe.

Joe Bavone

This place called itself an Auto Museum, and it does have some great historical vehicles, but it's so much more than that. Prepare to spend a couple of hours as you wander through the place checking out the cars, the wax figures, the artefacts from WWII and the Lincoln and Kennedy assassinations.... Be sure to take time to talk to Tony, the resident historian, who has verified the authenticity of all the artefacts and will weave fascinating tales of their provenance and the history surrounding them. The Historic Auto Museum is a must-see!

Linda Blahnik

Full of interesting exhibits and historic artifacts

Sean Conroy

A fun place with a mix of attractions for everyone, not just gearheads. A lot of movie and tv memorabilia.

Clifford Kazee

Great place to visit

Vickie Manthei

richard harris

Awesome place to see fantastic cars

Richard Troon

Don't let the outside fool you. Inside is an impressive collection of items mostly covering presidents/leaders, celebrities, and wild west figures. Included are several historically significant automobiles like the pictured one owned by Elvis. Several typos or misspellings in the exhibits detracted from the overall feel.

Monica

Awesome, and totally unexpected!

Paula Meeker

When I walked in I thought it was just all about cars, well what a surprise ! This is definitely an all American World History Museum along with famous cars and the peoples stories and facts from their guide "TONY" who knows the whos who and the whats what! A must see attraction, a hidden treasure of knowledge. Call for Tony!

Heather Ulrich atkinson

This place is amazing. These photos dont even cut it when it comes to everything they have here. I highly recommend going if you haven't already been. And if you've been come on back. Oh and ask for Tony. Tony is the man with the information on everything there. Simply amazing

Camille Gomez

Whoa! I've never seen anything like it!

Great place to look at some history

terri essex

Only giving this place a 1 star due to their hours posting. My hubby suggested this place because he went there as a kid. Googled it and it said it was open til 5pm. Drove the hr distance to it being closed. Found no posting stating it was closed except a post in their window. Really wish their hours were posted online better :( better luck next time I hope.

Stephanie Daniel

This place is a hidden gem!!! Worth the trip. Tons of great artifacts. Tony, local historian, is such a nice guy and is VERY knowledgeable. We will be back.

Cindy Bogdonas

It is interesting and fun to look at all of the exhibits

Right off the interstate and has some very interesting displays. If the interstate is backed up it'll be a great place to spend a couple hours. At around 12 $13 I think it's a little pricey. Still nice

Brenda Pinson

One of my favorite places to go in the State line area. Also one of the last places my Father and i visited...

Jonathan Brentner

Historic Auto Attractions is an amazing place. Tony makes the place come alive with his insights and amazing memory. We thoroughly enjoyed his talks last month as did our out of town friends. We will continue to bring both friends and relatives here. I am much more impressed with this this place than the Smithsonian US History museum in Washington, DC. This is a place you do not want to miss!

Wanda Dobbs

Take your children and grandchildren. Best place

Wilma Perry

A hidden jewel.

Henry Meade

Honestly for such a small town I wasn't expecting so much in a museum, but for the amount of content and history they have packed into their walls I can honestly say I learned a thing or two from Tony. Honestly I would come back to show my family this museum and I live 14 hours away.

Dan Lensing

This is more than just a car museum. It has so many historical artifacts. It is better than some of the museums in Chicago I have been to!

Kendal Brown

Very good variety of classic cars and guns.

Todd Anderson

Place is hardly open

Jen Jen

Hours are seasonal. Closed during winter months from the looks of it. Check their website.

Bernadine Cousins

No representation of multiple nationalities in this museum. Supposed to be a auto museum but ended up being a mixed bag of displays/exhibits. When asked why no rep; hemmed and hawed to tears. Dr. King not the only national figure in the world.

Christy Lee Ward

This hidden gem is a must see!

Michelle Kennedy

This little museum is a hidden gem. Has lots of interesting artifacts. Fun to read facts and how the items came to be at the museum. From the wild west to space. From Lincoln to Obama this museum has little tidbits of history and interesting stories behind that history. We have been 2 times and will go again to look again at things we might have missed. Honestly when you go down the little road to get there and see the building you begin to wonder, but as soon as you go in the door you wonder how you haven't been here before. Great job of keeping our history alive and preserved.

Mickey Rush

Wonderful a must see

Brennen Deason

Paul Baker

Amazing place! Way more than just an auto museum!

Chris Valk

My husband and I took some friends to see Historic Auto Attractions in Roscoe Illinois today, and again they didn't disappoint us. This museum has something for everyone. The variety of exhibits and new ones never fails to impress me.I would like to invite anyone who reads this post to visit them. The staff are the best! Hats off to Tony Farrell on all the history lessons he gave us today. Next time Tony we will make sure to show up on time for your guided tour. The effort and time spent on getting these exhibits is to be commended. Please, if your ever out this way stop in and say hello. Check out the artifacts that were pointed out on the show Mysteries at the Museum, such as Roosevelt's cane. Support your local museum! Great job guys! We will be back again with a new group of friends that I am sure will enjoy this place as much as we do.

John Accardi

Excellent source of automotive and nostalgic history. Tony is an awesome guide and can answer any questions about all the attractions you may have. Can't hardly wait for the expansion to be build to see what other cool and interesting things Lensing has for the world to see.

Seamo Sho

This was a great place to visit! So much to see, don't let the name fool you, it's so much more than just autos. I'm sure we will be returning soon. Something for all ages, a must see if you like history or movies. Went back recently with my parents. My mom was amazed with her cowboys and gangster history, and my dad with racing and James Dean. The Kennedy exhibit was amazing, for them the history stuck in such a little place. We even got to meet President Trump in his campaign limo.

Lou Deringer

Historic autos an ionic autos they did play a part in history

This museum tells historical stories through unique artifacts, vehicles, personal collections, fashion and furniture. The museum begins with the earliest forms of transportation and progresses through history's technological advances. There are notable political figures, celebrities, hollywood movie vehicles and race cars highlighted. So much to see and discover in one place. Highly recommend!

This museum in Roscoe is truly a hidden treasure. We visited this morning with a group of Seniors. We were there almost 2 1/2 hours and could have stayed longer. There is something for everyone, but for us the highlights were all of the historical exhibits. There are amazing cars, movie and star memorabilia, country western, and racecars, among other things. We particularly enjoyed the exhibits featuring the events of JFK's assassination. If you are taking a group be sure to ask for Tony as your guide. He is a wealth of knowledge and information. My husband and I have visited museums around the country and this compares well to many of them. You'll be amazed at some of the historical artifacts you'll see right here in Roscoe. Don't let the name fool you; it's so much more than cars!

Ken Wolf

Wierd collection of historical items and vehicles. Passed all my museum tests: 1 did I learn something new? Was it fun? Would I recommend? Yes.

Lesley Zant

I didn't expect to enjoy this museum nearly as much as I did. I'm blown away by all of the things packed into this place: historical autos, memorabilia from TV, movies, music, and wars. Plan on at least a couple of hours to see everything. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed taking our time looking at everything. They are nice enough to encourage photos, which was a pleasant surprise. If you have any questions, Tony knows it all and will happily give you more background on anything and everything. I highly recommend this place.

Nick Bartels

Woke up looking for something to do. Been to Volo, decided to go here. So glad that I did. From the second you enter the museum, you are just overloaded with the range of things to look at and learn about! The Historic items are fascinating! Met Tony, the museum curator. One heck of a nice guy and just loaded with amazing information about literally every single item! Spoke with him at great length. The museum is great without Tony, he just pushed my experience over the top. Something for everyone! I will be coming back with friends and family members so they can experience this place for themselves! The A/C was great on a 90 degree day, and lots of benches and free use of wheel chairs if needed. Easy parking too! I highly recommend!

K. D. M. TOP COP 72

Great time and educational for most ages... Althought I have smaller children, I wouldn't recommend under 4 years old for the museum. The staff was so helpful and explained a lot of the museum and its attraction. Her name was Cori and what a fantastic soul. We have an awesome time. Highly recommended.
