This museum is crisp, modern, and clean. The staff are very pleasant. I recommend coming to visit. They have a children's area as well. The outside lawn is huge and they have many sculptures to look at and enjoy.

cedarhurst is a gem for southern IL. They manage to get top notch talent that always shines. The venue is in an art gallery that has different displays almost every time we go, If you want to support classical music and live performances , there isn't a better place to go unless you count St. Louis as part of southern IL.

This is a great place to take the kids, whether you go in and visit the children's area or walk the grounds. Craft fairs and other events are also held at this location. If you're still playing those augmented reality phone games (Pokemon go, ingress, etc), there probably isn't a better spot in town to visit.

Beautiful! Lots of activities for children. 90 a res of all sorts of sculpture from serious to whimsical. I went on a gorgeous day. Wear walking shoes! And though there is a guide with map, the sculptures do not have matching numbers nor names. Go! It's a nice way to let kids blow off energy while you enjoy some culture.

I love taking my family to Cedarhurst! There is always so much to do. During the summer the grounds are one of our favorite places to go. They have some really nice trails and a pond that are well kept and dotted with really interesting sculptures. The collections indoors are amazing as well. Their events are so fun to attend. We just went to their yearly Art and Craft Fair. There is always a wonder mix or artisans who attend with great food vendors and music. This fair is great for the whole family since they have a children's section with performers and crafts for the younger ones. There is so much going on here, you must check it out!

Lovely at museum with exhibits that change frequently, and they are more than museum. They have concerts, classes, activities for children. Great place to visit. Join and get many events at a reduced cost. Beautiful grounds, too. Oh, and they have one of the premier art and craft shows in September.

Trying to find somewhere for my 2 and a half year old nephew to do on a rainy day in December. This place was perfect. We went on a Thursday and it was free! They have a family center room that had room for him to run around and hands on activities for him to do. The photography on exhibit was really good, so the older kids and adults had something to do as well! Will come again!

A hidden gem and we loved it. The permanent collection is incredible. All from the Mitchells...very impressive. A temporary exhibit on awkward family pictures made me giggle as we all have them...really shows our shared humanity. It was beautiful weather so we walked for a bit through the sculpture garden. Total cost for a lovely afternoon 5.00 each.

Great place to take your family. I took my toddler her to play in the family room about a month ago. It was a Friday afternoon in February and there was nearly no one at the museum. The family room has many exhibits for little ones to interact with. One such exhibit is a giant light bright with colored pegs used to make designs. There are also books, puppets, and legos. The museum has changing art exhibits, sculptures, and art classes, plus a monthly,free make and take craft for kids. General admission is free. Good way to spend some time with family.

A big-city cultural spot in small-town Mt Vernon, this place is a gem. The permanent collection is outstanding, and the rotating exhibits are always good as well. That's not even mentioning the sculpture garden, concerts and events. Definitely a place not to miss on your Southern Illinois visit.

Absolutely beautiful place to visit. It's a hidden gem you may not expect from such a small town. There are beautiful paths to walk through the woods at the sculpture garden. If you are just passing through and need a little walk, I highly recommend a visit. The museum has very good exhibits for such a small museum. There is a really neat children's room that can keep kids busy for a pretty long time. My son's favorite is the large light brute.
