Fascinating look at the railroad history of Wallace. Even if you only spend a few minutes here, well worth a stop into the historic depot!

Pat Stakem

A very nice place, with knowledgeable and helpful people. The railroad got the workers here from the East, to mine the silver and other metals. Interpretive displays. Must see.

My adult daughters and myself visited this museum today while walking around Historic Wallace Idaho. This museum is free to visit but does encourage and accept donations (they do not in any way pressure anyone for donations). What a gem! It says it is a self guided tour but there was a gentleman (Colonel Wallace) who showed us around the downstairs and explained how everything worked. Upstairs we wandered around and used the interactive displays, including the detailed model railroad and town. Again, there was another man who was happy to show us things, explain how things worked and encouraged our questions. The lady whi works in the gift shop and also makes the jewelry was fun to talk to. This is a must do when in Wallace. Good for young and old alike! Oh, and there is also a take one and leave one basket of painted rocks for people to enjoy.

Cool little museum that shows the history of wallace Idaho and the significance of the railroads in the area. The building is all original and has a lot of cool little history. Museum is free and they ask for donations!

People were informative and friendly. There is a model train on the 2nd story and I had the pleasure of meeting him and hearing him speak on the model train. He had been restoring it piece by piece for the last 10 years!! Such an amazing person! The history in this place is incredible and i highly recommend stopping in and learning a thing or two

How nice to have this museum, that is rich with history, in Wallace, ID. Very knowledgeable staff who take the time to answer questions or have a story to tell about the area. You can purchase souvenirs, books or drawings of the trains from back in the day. Interesting story about the building itself, is how it was saved from being torn down and moved to it's current location when the interstate was being built. The railroad was so important to life in the Silver Valley and all that is left of that time is the depot. A must stop if travelling through the panhandle of Idaho!

Retta Jones

Just had our wedding at the depot. The staff was great and very helpful. Decorations were spot on. If you are planning to marry, the depot and the town of Wallace Idaho is the place to do it. Depot is very historic and a great setting for a wedding.

Fun and charming little museum

Carl Bryan

Neat and good value, but there is more to the rich history than is represented here. I am sorry to be so critical, I intend to help contribute instead- because I'd like to see more and it's very possible here. The train display is definitely worth taking small kids upstairs to play. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The visit from Santa Claus is great, keep it up! Our community should rally and support this more.

A charming building with so many original artifacts it blows the mind. Even my husband spent a lot of time reading the displays. We were so lucky to have a historian greet us and give us information about the town and Depot and an oldtimer who showed us the many original artifacts in the station office.

Very nice and fun museum. Admission is on a donation basis but there was no pressure that you had to donate (We gave the suggested $8 for a family). Staff was very friendly and made sure to fill the kids in on all the fun stuff. Kids loved the train bells, telegraph office and model train. All of that stuff was hands on and it is encouraged that you try things out. I enjoyed the interesting history and the beautiful depot station. A must see for anyone taking in the town of Wallace.
