This Museum is classified in the category of Museum.
Great museum! It's $15 for adults, $10 for students to get in. Your ticket gives you admission for seven days, so that's a great bonus! The museum is actually very large, being housed in two buildings. One is the traditional information, …
Worth going to but make sure you get the explanation behind the artifacts from the volunteer. One hour film is excellent, but narriator is mundane. What's wrong with voice inflection, dude
This museum is a treasure full of treasures, not the least the wonderful people who lovingly oversee the histories of Kauai.
Cute museum kind of hidden. Not too much foot traffic. $15 for a 7 day access so you have time to see everything. There is a LOT to see! Learned so much about kaui history. They even have story telling and types of events that are covered in the 7 day pass.
Wonderful stop while waiting for our flight home. Spent two casual hours look through the exhibits. Would have liked to see this first before our week here, as there was much to learn about the island's history that would have provided a great backstory to many of the locations we visited on Kauai.
Excellent museum, with great exhibits. I love the collections of artifacts from various times in Kauai history.
Lot of information. Staff was very friendly and welcoming.
Need more guided tours. Worth the visit.
It was a good exhibit but we thought it was a little pricey for the overall experience.
Went there today. Only had a brief amount of time. It was great. The lecture by James was excellent. His lecture really turned it into a highly engaging experience.
Very nice volunteers
Wow
Amazing! Great artifacts
Wonderful museum packed with local Kauai history. Very informative. Well worth the modest admission fee. Be sure to check out the gift shop too. They have a good selection of books.
Small museum, 2 buildings 2 floors each. Not much to see and no guide available. Entry fee 10$. Doesn't offer much but you may visit it during your stay in Lihue :)
Overrated
amust visit
very well organized, educational
The woman that gives you a bit of insight into the museum is wonderful. I wish she stayed with you through the whole journey as there was alot to take in. I could do without the paintings that were obviously not from the time. I also felt that there was more history about the development of the island in the more modern era instead of its cultural history before industrial development and americans arrived.
Very good displays and imfo.
Fabulous museum! Staff walked us into the museum and gave us a rundown on everything we were about to see. It was like having a private mini tour. There are 2 buildings, the first is on Hawaiian culture and the second building is about Kauai. We enjoyed learning about the kings and seeing the shipwreck treasures. The surfing exhibit was really cool too. The day pass is good for 7 days so you can revisit the museum. Their gift shop is also amazing.
最近リニューアルされ、日系移民のコーナーもあります。
Friendly and lovely staff! Such a great place to learn about history of the islands. We went to kill time and it ended up being my favorite stop!!
Awesome place to learn the history of Kauai
The Kauai Museum is a very good museum with excellent coverage of our small island. It has a very nice gift shop, with clothing, books and handmade local items for sale. The museum itself does a wonderful job of explaining the history of the island. One cultural treasure to seek out is a wooden bowl turned by world master wood turner Robert Hamada. Take the time to visit the museum, it's we'll worth it.
Este Museo es uno de los lugares más sorprendente de la Isla
Learn about Kauai history.
It's a small museum, but very interesting with a great staff. They even spent time helping me learn a little bit of personal history.
Inexpensive activity. Great for learning about the history and culture of the island as well as greater Hawaii to some extent. It looks small but it is deceptively large with lots of displays.
Really enjoyed the museum. Great to read all the history.
Wonderful! There is a matching museum in santa Cruz, Ca with the same plaque about bringing surfing to the mainland!
Chucky Boy organized an amazing event featuring Robert Cazimero. Beautifully designed and decorated. Very comfy, it literally felt as if you were attending a concert in your own home. Absolutely loved it!
Little museum near the airport with interesting exhibits on the early history of Kauai, its peoples, canoe plants they brought, their social activities and political intrigue. There's a second building with exhibits on Kauai's unique …
Great collection.
Very knowledgeable docents. Need 3 hours to see it all. Was there years ago and the museum has been upgraded/expanded a lot. Remember to bring coupon for free mug and calendar. Uli'i went out of her way to answer my questions. The tour began with a Hawaiian chant. We were there just to kill an hour before our plane but should have come here the first or second day of our trip to get a much better feel for this lovely island.
Amazing museum to learn the history of Kauai, they have a well known local performer every Saturday at 1:30pm and he presents a great musical show and speaks about the culture and music of the island, this museum though me a lot about the first people that came to the island and also how unfairly people was treated during Pearl Harbor.
Covers Hawaii history nice staff
Lots of culture packed into a relatively small place. It took us a couple hours to explore it.
See the history of Kauai.
You have to come here for history before you explore the island. Informative and friendly staff!
Good place to learn a little Hawaiian history.
Very good 1st stop on the island of Kauai. Tons of good information, excellent displays and fascinating facts!
The Museum has really improved. A great visit when on kauai.
A good place to learn about the history of Kauai and to see Hawaiian artifacts (including stunning feathered capes)
Very extensive history of Kauai with lots of artifacts, photos and written descriptions.
There's one room that has a lot of interesting information about how people on Kauai lived centuries ago. The other exhibits, which include some middling modern portraits of the Kauai monarchy, are less interesting. This place is an okay way to kill a few hours after you check out of your hotel if your flight leaves in the evening.
Small. Not much to see. Good raining day activity.
Expensive entrance
Very enjoyable...it's good to learn about the island before exploring it...take advantage of the free guided tours (check website for times)...also admission is good for 7 days...so you don't have to cramp all of it in the 1st trip!
Omg! I wanted to learn a little history about Kauai and wandered into this museum. My friend and I got a personal history lesson from James, a 77 year old retired history teacher who gave tests on his info along with a twinkle in his eye. He made history come alive for me and I will never forget this musuem--ever! They have a great gift shop with tons of books on island history and a fabulous variety of jewelry, ornaments and other gifts. It was an impressive stop and great for a rainy day visit. One ticket allows a week of visits. We would have gone back to view their movie, but we had great weather!
If you come to Kauai during the spring months, I would save this as your rainy day activity. No matter what, it's still a great place to visit. The building for me was deceptively small but it feels like that because they have so much stuff inside. I didn't really watch the film but a lot of people seemed interested in it.
Lots of very interesting history. They need your support to improve the exhibits.
Kaua'i classic museum has information about it's local culture, aswell as past
Much more than I expected, and the attendant was very informative.
Great museum. A nice break for the tourist routine. Outstanding docent!
Interesting, worth the stop.
A must if you visit the island
So much history in such a tiny space. And only about Kauai. Wow
It’s very nice to see the history of Kauai and the Hawaiian cultures. The ticket is $15/adult and $12/senior. I would recommend taking your children to go check it out. They will have a better understanding of the culture and history of Hawaii.
A good place to learn about the history and culture of Kauai. The museum is small, but contains more than enough knowledge to fill your afternoon. If you like exploring things in detail, you might need two afternoons. The staff are great people, and very helpful!
It was interesting but the power went out on the whole Island so couldn't see the rest of the museum.
Worth a visit! Lots of information and artifacts and very friendly staff.
Great look at Kauai's history!
Clean and very organos place And a lot of history materials
tad pricey, but nice.
Great collection of exhibits on Kauai's geology, history and culture. Excellent exhibits on surfing and on pioneer and native history. Great gift shop with reasonable prices.
It's size on the outside is deceiving. I've driven past many times thinking I might slip it in between commitments and figured this was the time. Once inside I realized 1) it was actually two buildings, 2) it had really good quality exhibits, and 3) I was going to be there awhile. They cover Kauai history and geography, WW2 history, surfing interests, plantations, missionaries -- a surprising breadth of subjects, and I didn't feel like anything was just stuck in as an afterthought. If I lived here, I'd want to be a regular volunteer.
Interesting museum. Lots to see and take in. It displays a lot of relics of Native Hawaiian culture and history. People visiting Hawaii should acknowledge the history of the island and this museum does a great job of portraying such history. Highly reccomend.
Always enjoyed looking back at history, especially of the island I once called home. My one complaint is that they do a blessing on some of the object or rooms because there’s always that eerie feeling whenever you’re walking through some parts of the exhibits. Adds to the experience I guess.....creepy......
Great!!!
An overwhelming amount of history contained inside! Visited our last day on the island. Wish we went sooner because our admission included a pass that was valad for an entire week!! Would have loved to visit more than once.
Very interesting lots of items to view
Interesting way to spend a rainy afternoon We enjoyed learning about the islands history. Some good exibits
(Translated by Google) I was able to understand the deep history of Kauai. (Original) カウアイ島の深い歴史が理解出来ました。
This museum shows whole history of Kauai in small museum. It's a treat and I go whenever I'm in Kauai. Gift shop has excellent local products.
Worth the stop. The museum consists of two buildings packed with memorabelia and exhibits from throughout Kauai's history. A good way to spend a few hours learning about the history and the culture of the people of Kauai.
A fun place to learn about Kauai
I love the history of Kauai that can be learned here. If you like history, you should try this.
Loved this small museum
Great intro, very knowledgeable staff. Displays could have been laid out more orderly. Good video of Hawaiian history. Love that your ticket is valid for 7 days so you can go back to take more info in.
The museum has a lot of interesting things to look at and we got to hear a history of a mural on the wall told by the curator. Well worth seeing.
Nothing much for kids to see here.
I just going to museum to learn about the history
Excellent, friendly and helpful.
Nice little Museum. Worth visiting
Kauai specific history. Very interesting. Nicely displayed. Admission good for a week! It was worth the money.
Wonderful little museum full of artifacts, history and a gift shop.
Wonderful experience!
A must see, very nice museum. Could use some lighting updates on many displays.
Great history.
Great history
I admit I thought it seemed expensive first, especially when there are so many free things to do on Kauai on a beautiful day. However I'm very glad I bit the bullet - I learned more about Hawaiian history in the time I was there than the rest of the week. Also the admission is good for 7 days so if you go at the beginning of your trip (if you're there on vacation) then you can head back during a lull or if the weather isn't great!
We love Chad, thank you for your knowlegdes and telling Kauais history.
ハワイ王朝から移民の歴史が展示物でわかります。特に日本人の私には日系移民の方の苦労がよくわかりました。日本人の方にはお勧めします。
Interesting to learn history on a rainy day
Interesting spot if you've got time in Lihuie
Small museum with local charm. Not a high "wow" factor, but some things were interesting. Some pieces seemed sketchy, like they were fabricated for the museum. But the price was right unless you go to the gift shop.
The staff was friendly and the facility was clean. The museum was filled with the history of Kauai that takes you on a journey thru time. The museum pass was $30 and was good for 5-7 days and multiple visits. They offer an hour movie you can watch but it is literally a room with chairs and a small tv that plays a DVD. The museum had many originally pieces of art that ranged from earlier primitive tools to surfboards from famous surfers such as Duke. The two buildings and overall layout of the museum are under whelming. The museum is lackluster and seemed to be more of a collection of things then a journey thru time. I honestly feel like I retained more information and stories about Kauai from the excursion we took then from the museum. Overall, the Kauai Museum was clean, inexpensive, offers great value, provides an abundant amount of information, and a good place to kill an hour or two.
Loads of great information and exhibits, organized poorly with too dense of text accompanying displays. The docent said a few inappropriate things in his talk. A real shame because the museum has lots of gems inside.
Wonderful insight, through the great docents, of the cultural history of some of the Hawaiian groups.
Sadly closed when we were there
Very interesting information
Terrific place with all the history of Kauai. Amazing historical artifacts. Wonderful staff.
Its has a fairly limited display but is an interesting insight to the island.
It's very small but it definitely had some interesting stuff! Visit to keep it alive.
Worthwhile experience.
Great museum with many wonderful displays. Extremely informative.
Very informative local museum, packed with lots of history. Good place to visit, nice staff.
Kauai is rich in history and what better place to learn than the Kauai Museum. Easily accessible, browse the displays and ask your questions. Kings, and Queens and WWll and the plantation life. Got it all!!
Visiting this museum while you're in Lihue is worth it. The artifacts and art displayed are very well-preserved. It's a smaller museum but excellent all throughout. The tour guide / curator is accommodating with your questions. There's a shop on the ground floor, I parked in front of the capitol. Expect to spend about 30min-1hr here.
Good. Pleasant service.
I can’t say enough about the artifacts, displays, or inspiration I got from The Kauai Museum. It’s a great place, with engaging special events.
Very small but pricey!
Beautiful Museum. Friendly staff, very knowledgeable, beautiful building well done!
Cute. Small but nice
Great collection Must go
Nice small museum to learn about Hawian culture.
Don't miss out on the Rice collection
Loved the museum. Very informative and interesting.
very informative museum. the hosts were very knowledgeable and friendly.
Fantastic local museum
Great little museum to learn about the island
Well done Museum. Plan on several hours or more. Island is rich in history.
Worth viisiting to learn the history
Very informational from a cultural standpoint. Lots to look at. A little pricey to get in but I liked it.
Lots of posters with text on them. Felt like stuff I could read on the internet and didn't need to be there for.
Lots of cool stuff
We love the different docents. The admission price is good for a week so go back more than once and hear different people tell the history of the island.
Good Hawaiian history lesson.
Great museum! History of the island and WWII. Plan on at lease 2 hours
Cute little museum, great volunteers who know a lot and want to share. Good history lesson about this island.
Amazing collection of historic items and information. Very dense!
Minimalistic museum
Nice but too expensive
Very interesting. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the artifacts and information were very insightful, and the gift shop was a bell to remember.
I love the ukelee player and the fish netting deminsration. Great don't miss.
Great place to learn about this place we're on.
Like many that have posted, this was a rainy day activity. Learned a lot, well organized, kinda small town museum. Do it anyway.
Small, but with a lot of interesting info, particularly when one considers that Kauai maintained its independence from Kamahamaha's rule longer than any of the other islands.
We really enjoyed this informative museum on Kauai's history. If you haven't been to Hawaii before this is a good place to find out their history.
History of Kauai...49.6 inches of rain in Hanalei same day
Lugar muy interesante para conocer algo de la historia de tan bella isla.
