DESCRIPTION

Here you will see all the information of real people who buy the products and services of Imiloa Astronomy Center (Museum) near Hawaii.

Currently the business has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 and the score has been calculated on 54 reviews.

You may have noticed that its rating is nearly the best, and it is based on a large number of scores, so we can think that the evaluation is very credible. If there are many people who bothered to give their feddback when they are satisfied, it works.

As you know, we do not usually bother to write feddbacks when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...

This Museum is included in the category of Science museum.

REVIEWS OF Imiloa Astronomy Center IN Hawaii

I am interested in science but don’t have an intense background in astronomy. I have a 9 and 12 year old who enjoy museums. My husband was also interested in the topic. We spent about 4 hours in the museum. There was something for everyone. Emily one of the guides in the museum was beyond engaging and knowledgeable. Again we love museums but I think most people would find this center interesting and worth exploring. It could be completed in 2 hours.

I had a really good experience here and I learned quite a lot. With Mouna Kea being closed right now due to protests this was the next best thing and I feel like I learned a lot more watching their Mouna Kea planetarium show than I would have from a tour going up to the peak myself. Very friendly staff would highly recommend :)

Great place to go with kids or without. Especially when rain shows up . . . Lots of interactive displays and diverse information. The movies in the dome are entertaining for all ages. You can easily spend over 4 hours here. It's worth checking the website for what special programs are available and you are planning a visit. It's also great to just stop in without plans.

Great spot for the kids to get hands on learning. The planetarium show was very informative as well and the questions and answers about the evening sky was a great finish to the show.

Don Lubsen

Beautiful place. Very informative. Love the planetarium.

Well Mr. Plundr, funny how you seem to have plenty of time to lambast negativity, when just a small amount of research ahead of time would have easily shown you that all the things you complain about in your comment are addressed in most books and online as being how the museum does things. Funny how you have the time to be angry and give one star, when all you had to do is 10 minutes of research. This museum is wonderful and in no way misrepresents itself. So I'm suggesting you give the one star rating to your attitude and anger problems and inability to read. Do more reading and research ahead of time and then you may save more money to do the things you feel are really worth while to satisfy your entertainment needs. Aloha!

I like this place. I especially like the exhibit where you can control the Milkyway and zoom in and out showing Earth. That was my favourite part. It was like controlling it by creating your own Big Bang. I was also able to see a video of a NASA astronaut touring around the space station. This place is veered towards children for sure but I am fan of space exploration so this was definitely a fun experience. Learning about the voyages of early Hawaiians was good too. Seeing descriptions in Hawaiian language next to English translations was good to see, especially in the land where people once spoke them. We went in a dome theatre and the presenter was fun. She was engaging, knowledgeable and entertaining.

The "Skies Above Hawaii" planetarium show is excellent!! Our host asked people what they were interested in seeing and then customized the show on the fly to include audience interests. Modern planetarium setup with high resolution and 3D capabilities. Exhibits are ok, really geared more towards children than adults for the most part.

This place is worth going to. There are many hands on exhibits for kids, but it's kind of small. I have seen better planetarium shows, but this one was decent and included in the ticket price. We went to the Cyber Canoe session and the presenter was fun and friendly. A good 2-3 hour activity.

Worth the visit, astronomy and hawaiian history.

It's a pretty cool museum. It has a very cute planetarium. You can learn a lot about the ancient sailing ways of the Polynesians. That is also mixed in with modern technology for star gazing

Go to their planetarium show! It's a leisure walk through the museum, which features astronomy and Hawaiiana. Walk outdoors through their garden. Facilities are clean.

Went to this place on a field trip before, very informative

At the Imiloa Uncle Punawai guided my class of 6th and 7th graders through the planetarium and some exhibits that showed not only parts of the universe but gave them an idea of what is happening on earth. It was a little bit of geology mixed with astronomy and added some climate change science to the presentation. They had a blast and Uncle Punawai’s energy was contagious. This would be amazing for kids! I didn't like the film "Dawn of the space age" outdated computer animation film. So pick one of the other time slots. Other than that amazing and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. My favorite part was after the film they show the night sky and explain some Hawaiian constellations.

18$ per adult but worth it. The planetarium show is great and the stands and experiences interesting! Nice live and immersive stands. Good food too at the restaurant.

Nice exhibits and planetarium show, though a little basic for anyone with a bit of science and astronomy understanding.

Half of the exhibits are about Hawaiian topics, partially related to astronomy. So if you looking for mostly astronomy related material, it isn't for you. The planetarium was nice and new, but the "interactive" program is 100% scripted. Overall it was quite small, and not worth the money.

Interesting place. Never into astronomy stuff but I did enjoy the visit. Lots of cool space stuff to see as well as cool space stuff to learn if you really into this kind of thing. I'd would recommend this place to family to visit, show your kids around and take some good pictures too.

Our Phi Theta Kappa officers from all Hawaiian Islands met here, and were astonished by the production. Many of our group have travelled the planet, and visited Planetariums as a first choice when visiting as a guest. All of us concluded that Imiloa (means Discoverer) Astronomy Center, is much more than a Planetarium. Imiloa can be better described as a compendium of ocean navigators profoundly in tune with our celestial heavens to guide them. These were the ancient Hawaiians. A "Run, Don't Walk" destination in Hilo, Hawaii.

We took my grandchildren for an excursion to watch a kiddies movie on the ceiling screen . It was AWESOME ! Like being surrounded by the movie .

Paul Chiles

Since the island is a noted astronomy center, our expectations were perhaps over-inflated. This place was an extreme disappointment. A planetarium without stars! The extremely expensive film showed Hawaiian culture and pseudo-religion. (Everything a Hawaiian has ever touched or looked at seems to be sacred.) The only astronomy was the not so surprising revelation that pre-Hawaiians, just like every other early civilization. used the stars to navigate. The main museum display was a canoe, not a telescope. Looking for astronomy or science? Save your money and visit Palo Alto!

Its a good family place. If you have older kids who can sit through the planetarium show, but also have younger ones, you can split up and the little kids can enjoy the exhibits.

My wife and I stumbled upon the Astronomy center after finding the Sky cafe on google and having lunch there. It is amazing and there are so many cool things to see and learn about. Our guide, Tony, was excellent and helped direct us to some of the most interesting displays and interactive exhibits. I would also recommend the shows as the one we say was awesome and the young lady that presented it was on point. We could have stayed all day so when planning a trip make sure you give yourself at least 3 hours to really explore!

Bobbi Pinns

I absolutley LOVE this museum. I bring my 4yo twice a month to see the 10am Saturday keiki film and astronomy lesson. It changes every month. Super fun. There are usually little activities after the film too. And then we run around the museum for about an hour before lunch time. Perfect morning activity.

Great place to take your kids, and eat

3d show was pretty good! Very informative for adults but maybe to much for children to grasp. Great hands on stuff for the kiddos. They really enjoyed themselves.

Matt Tonks

Would be great for kids but it’s not so great for adults

(Translated by Google) A museum shop is a pretty good selection! It is close to Hilo Grand Shrine. Planetarium is an explanation turn, unique. If you can speak English, you can enjoy it considerably. (Original) ミュージアムショップがなかなかいいセレクション! ヒロ大神宮から近い。 プラネタリウムは解説ターンが、ユニーク。 英語ができる人なら、かなり楽しめる。

If you are into Astronomy, yes I would go and visit, but don't expect the Smithsonian. It is a nice little museum with an good planetarium that offers a selection of shows. You don't need much time there. The show would be about the longest activity, but you could allow for 2 hours of time to fully review the exhibits and take in a show. It is not cheap, so if you are looking for budget things to do while playing tourist, you might skip this one. The grounds and property is very nice and enjoyable to walk around. There is a cafeteria, but not sure of what is offered or if it is any good. It is right outside of Hilo Bay, but does require some navigation to get to.

This was a great place to spend a few hours. The planetarium shows were entertaining and informative, and there were many hands on exhibits that we haven't seen elsewhere. They also shared the view on Astronomy from the perspective of the Hawaiian people. The main negative was that several of the exhibits were broken and not working.

Tapani Vuori

Hawaiian planetarium with a sense of place. Very strong also in the cultural context. Very nicely done and definitely worth visiting.

We were running out of things to do on the Big Island towards the end of our trip and decided to stop by here. It's air conditioned and my 10 year old is big into science stuff. While it is not nearly as big and extensive as the Science Museum of Minnesota, you can tell that the staff really cares about the museum and keeps it up nicely. There is a large room of interactive exhibits for kids that covers both space exploration and Hawaiian culture. We spent about an hour looking at exhibits (I think you would hard-pressed to spend much longer than that). Then we went to a show in the 360o theater. Again this was not nearly as impressive as the Omnitheater but it was cute. The space show we watched was pretty silly; even my 10 year old thought it was dumb. After that they did a 15 minute planetarium show about the Hawaiian night sky and that was pretty cool. Being from the Midwest the night sky is quite a bit different in Hawaii and that was fun to learn about. I would recommend as a great indoor stop (for super hot or rainy days) for those with kids in the 7 year old to teen age range.
