I went with my child's 3rd grade class, so I didn't get the normal tour, but they put together a good experience that was fun for the kids and educational. Good for the kids, and adults, to learn about an important part of Hawaii history.

Lines incredibly long..no one monitoring crowds..ppl behind us kept pushing their way fwd and many ended up way ahead of us..would not do again..wasted 3.5 hrs waiting..not worth it

Ive been there twice and each time I went the tour was very long, slow and boring. The docent we had has been there for a long time but shared too much of his unwanted knowledge that kept us in each house very long...The old man and all the old ladies there are not very nice but they're unhappy and grumpy. Usually elderly people are kind but not these. Maybe the plantation need bright, happy and cheery young docents. Just saying!!!

Nadine Dalton

Chaperoned a field trip of 1st graders and they all loved it! Hands on activities and factual history lessons that weren't boring. Highly recommend!

Mariliz Reilly

Haunted Halloween is only for kids over 13 or 14 years of age! We had to leave after waiting that long in line super scary good fun

Get a good scare with a place that's really haunted. Haunted Plantation is every year in October. I have never missed a year. Since Halloween is over, you need to check it out next year. My advice is to come early get in line or get the fast pass. It's worth the wait.

Christopher Tipton

I had an excellent tour from Robert. We went through the recreated dwellings of historic immigrant groups who worked on the sugar plantation. I would have liked more information about the sugar-making process and the current plants grown there.

If you want to learn about colonization Hawaii, going to Hawaii's Plantation Village in Waipahu is exactly where you want to go. Unfortunately, the buildings are mostly inaccessible for wheelchairs, but there are still a few things to do and see. Worth a trip there to see everything.

Good place to learn about Oahu's historical plantation life. However, the only negative is the tour guide's accent may not have a strongngrasp of the english language so when they're trying to explain things, it may be difficult to understand.

Not too bad for a field trip with kids. Some things remind me of home growing up. It was fun having lots of kids getting excited about everything... The place is clean and a lot of little houses were clean and nicely maintained...Big patches of taro and not too many sugar cane...we found a star fruit and there's a lot of fruits growing.. The kids really enjoyed the tiger dance.

Our docent grew up on the sugar cane plantation and had great stories. Definitely worth seeing!

Àndy Sargent

Nice site and insight into that part of Hawaian history. Our guide moved along a bit quickly and did not know some of the basic Hawaiian history, or the language barrier was a problem for us. Some of the buildings and labeling are showing their age. Still a great site and worth supporting its story.

Great history of Hawaiian immigrant waves. Showed types of homes of the various cultures. Tour lasted over two hours. Worth it.

Rossie

The tour was so good. My family enjoyed it. Kenny was very knowledgeable, very passionate when he talks about the contribution of the different cultures to the today Hawaii’s Life. Highly recommended.

Ed Lewis

Well worth the cost and a few hours of your time. The "village" is a recreation of 8 ethnic groups that worked in the Hawaii plantations. Very well put together and the staff/volunteers are excellent. Interesting how similar the living conditions were in the nations represented (and my own family from Louisiana). Very educational.

(Translated by Google) I started to go to Hawaii and at first I was on vacation, but I wanted to know some of Hawaii's history. This is the perspective of the life of immigrants, but this gives us the opportunity. I feel more and more familiar with Hawaii. I find this plantation village interesting and truly memorable. Whether you are a Filipino or Japanese who saw life in the villages before the intrusion of modern technology, you can probably relate and find connections to a farmer's life back in the days. For someone who traces his roots from the coastal towns of Ilocos Region and lived in what we call Kalapaws, the sight of Hawaii's Plantation Village is not at all foreign as it reminds me of home. I rendered a drawing of a Sakada and left it at East West Center as my token of appreciation for having invited me as resource speaker and as artist-in-residence at EW Arts Gallery when the island state celebrated its Centennial Anniversary of Filipino Migration to Hawaii in 2006.

Jaybird Price

It's OK, but a little long winded from our tour guide and the mainlander tourist were just rude -- they did not respect Hawaii

Bo Young Choi

Excellent historical place. $15 for adult admission. So much thing to look at and excellent service. People are nice and knowledgeable.

Melody Kuroda

I remember visiting my great aunt at her plantation house and am glad there's a place to learn more about the plantation experience and history of Hawaii. We took a self-guided tour and explored the exhibit rooms. I appreciate the room about Honouliuli since the site cannot yet be visited.

BoB Tomato

A good look into history. Dress in you best summer clothes. It'll be warm

Michael Clancy

Great place to see how the first immigrants to Hawaii lived. Really gives the plantation living experience! Went to celebrate the Lunar New Year, many activities/good from all the various cultures in Hawaii.

Adrian Bryant

Very interesting. Gives a different angle on the recent history. The first 2 information rooms are free and packed with lots of interesting facts and photos. Explains how the local population was exploited by their own kings and then bob the plantation owners, however so many had died from diseases that the plantation owners had to import labour from al over the world often with false promises. The houses in the park cost $15 to see but well worth seeing.

Teacher Bow

Spent the morning pruning and weeding with the folks from Olelo. Yoshiko was our guide and she's awesome!

A "must see" to truly understand the multicultural underpinnings of today's Hawaii. Take the tour! It's well worth the money and the time.

Outdoor walking tour, takes about one hour. They take you through typical living and meeting sites of the multiple ethnic groups that came to HI ~100 years ago to work on the sugar plantations. Includes an old-time medical clinic and an Inari shrine that is on the HI registry of historic buildings. Cost is $13 for adults. (Don't bring young kids; like a prior poster said, it won't be fun for them.) Tours are hourly from 10AM - 2PM Mon through Sat. I went on the Sat. 10AM tour and was the only one on it.

Its a great tour and very informative! Our guide, Bobbi had actually lived on a plantation! Plus, another guide brought a great lunch to share. Bonus! It was a great treat after eating out all week! Its mostly about how the workers lived rather than agriculture, but its still cool. Take a bottle of water along on your walk through time!
