Here you have the information of real people who know the products of Children\'s Discovery Center (Museum) in Hawaii area.
To this day the firm gets a rating of 4.6 out of 5 and that score has been based on 306 reviews.
You may have noticed that the average score it has is practically the best one, and it is founded on a high number of scores, so we can say that the evaluation is quite reliable. If there are many people who bothered to value when they've done well with the service, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to write reviews when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Museum is included in the category of Children\'s museum.
This place has been here for many years and I feel obligated to bring all of the younger generation here in order for them to experience the joy of learning that I have. There are so many interactive portions such as different cultures, different jobs, the human body, and things that help to develop the mind. The staff is amazing, they are great with kids and obviously love their job. I did not see one staff member that looked like they hated their job.
Awsome!
Good intro to physical science for younger kids on inside. For older kids, good intro to social science on the outside.
Outstanding place! Great for kids, very clean! I would take my kid here everyday if i could.
Great place for local families and visitors with little ones. My 4 year old had a blast on a rainy day
Kids love this place. It's good for a good 3 hours. Bring your own snakes and eat them out front in the middle.
Very friendly staff, amazing attractions, good vibes, kids love it. Currently partly under construction so the third floor is closed and so is outside which they open every Friday.
They cleaned out the homeless camps and updated a few things inside, great way to spend the day for the under 10 crowd
If you have young children, this place is a MUST! So many hands on activities and on Fridays, there is an outdoor area thats open!
Pretty cool! Kind of like an indoor science playground. Massive.
My granddaughter loves the interactive displays.
Wow, wow, this place is -amazing-!!! Has so many exhibits that my 21 month old and I spent 3 hours at this place. Love it and would definitely go back if had a chance.
My kids love it there
We took our medically fragile son here for a spring break outing. He loved it. It's a place where education meet fun.
This was awesome
A great place to spend a morning or afternoon with young children. Used to come here with my son a lot. Almost all areas are attractive. Lots of places for grand parents to sit down if they need to. Highly recommended.
It's an amazing place to bring your little ones. Plenty of interactive displays for kids to play with. I only wished they had longer weekday hours during the summer.
Amazing fun for kids of all ages. My 2 year old didn't want to leave!
This is a amazing place for kids
Wow we and our granddaughter had a blast there you all need to get there
Spent well over 3 hours playing, so there is tons to do, even with one floor under construction. The exhibits seem to be a bit outdated, but my 3 year old still loved them. We used the restrooms a couple times and every time they were super dirty. This was the worst part for sure. Staff were friendly and helpful. I appreciate the areas only for younger kids (5 and under) and (3 and under)! Great rainy day activity. Super hot inside though, there was no AC.
Great interactive exhibits. Several areas for under 2 kids where they can play without being run over by bigger kids. The 2nd floor has some nice areas focused on hawaiian, asian, and pacific island themes.
Nice staff, well thought out environment and very engaging for kids. My 2 year old gets pretty stoked when we visit. We liked it so much the first time we went that we ended up buying a pass for the year.
Awesome place for kids and parents! Endless fun things to fi for a kid with any interest!
Great for kids to explore.
Amazing place for pre school age children with lots of learning activities and games for a very low price.
Great place for kids. A little but too expensive tho
Fun place to go with children. They can learn and have fun at the same time! The only thing is that it might be crowded. Over all it’s so much fun!
Fun place for kids.
Best sanitary and educational place for kids on the island
Good points- kids can touch all the things, they have food, water area has been redone, not a weather dependent outing. Con- pricey
The kids enjoyed discovering each activity, which made me happy seeing them go from one thing to another.
The prices went up, but it's still a great place for my daughter
The place is okay. It's pretty much like Japan and everything about Japan. I was expecting more variety but very disappointed. Also there a huge homeless problem around there. I mean they had tents inside the property, all around the building. Not something I wanted to see going to a kids museum.
I had a wonderful experience. The staff were so warm and accommodating. The childten had so much. It was so worth it.
It was much more than I expected. Just amazing my son spend like 4 hours there and he didn't want to leave it. The staff is super gentle and understanding how the kids are. Super cheap also for all the fun that you will have. Definitely we'll be back
Great place to bring the kids on a rainy Hawaii day. You'll spend hours and hours here. Let your imagination wonder and have a blast with your kiddo.
We had so much fun on the end of the school year field trip.
Very informative child friendly but my ONLY draw back is that you can't push your baby stroller around and I think they should inform you of that.
Just the right amount of exhibits for our 4yr old. Very creative exhibits, most were different than another science museum we went to recently. Rainforest / water cycle exhibit was my favorite.
Recently renovated. Wonderful place for kids. Closes early.
A gem of Honolulu! This is a must go-to spot if you have kids. The daily and yearly cost to access is very affordable and theres plenty of free parking. Inside is climate controlled and you'll find very friendly staff and lots of activities for kids to do as well as spaces for exploration.
Awesome place for me and my nephew to visit. I think they should incorporate some hand sanitizer at "adult" level height to reach though. My hands were pretty gross after playing with all the fun tinker things
My oldest daughter just adores this place. We’ve been to a couple museums in the Children’s group and this is by far the beat and biggest one we’ve been too. We have spent hours and hours there and although Mommy was tired , my girl loved it. The even have a few spaces for my 10 month old as well and now that’s she’s mobile , it’s perfect !
I took my own son here for two birthdays and the summer camp.
Fantastic for kids. So interesting and so educational. Even adults will love it.
It's very educational & fun for all children even adults!
Great experience. Took my 1 year old. Very comforting and friendly on the inside. But on the outside is a whole different scene. People"camping" all around the property
We looved this museum. I make it a goal to go to a kid's museum with my toddler in every place we visit and at first I thought it was a bit underwhelming compared to others but I was pleasantly surprised by the end of the day. One of the highlights was the Asian cultures floor and it was beautiful and detailed. The prices at the cafe were decent as well. Definitely go with your smaller children if you're in town!
The kids could have stayed for hours!! We were sad they closed at 1pm on a weekday. Definitely wished there was a similar center back home. We would be frequent flyers for sure. Great place to be whether or not you're trying to spend a day indoors on this island.
Good times, good food, great staff
My 2 year old absolutely loved it here. The staff was great and the facilities were well managed
Great experience for the children.
Play centers are really dated and some of the play areas smelled of urine. Discovery center was kind of a disappointment. It was more so like a little business Park for kids. Little to no exhibits about the Hawaiian people or culture that you could learn about. Instead there are Asian Hawaiian themes and mannequins. Mannequins look kind of creepy. Pretty much everything you do there you could do at home with your kids or at a park.....for free.
Great huge space for your kids to run around and explore. Has two separate areas for infants and toddlers. A kids restaurant that serves pizza and spam musubi (cash only though). For some reason, the homeless camps tend to gravitate towards the exterior of the place, but they have never bothered us. Been going here almost monthly for three years, and no issue.
My 3 year old loves this place! Very educational and a great way to spend a rainy day or do something besides hit the beach. You’ll need more than one trip to get the most out of each exhibit. Would highly recommend! Don’t miss the 3rd floor!
Took my 2 year old daughter there for the first time last week & she absolutely loved it. She didn't want to leave. Thinking of maybe becoming a member.
Fun for the kids
Tons of stuff for kids to do. Wish there was more new stuff, but a good place to get the kids out.
I'm not a kid I'm more like a teen and this place was still fun to enjoy
Such a great learning experience for children. Hands on learning as well . It's worth the fee , every penny of it to keep the facility in the great it's in !! Suggest to pack a healthy lunch and bring water .
This unique park for tots to school aged children is united around natural themes of water, exploration and discovery. There's really nothing to do except walk around. I understand the reason behind the park but I find it creepy to explain to my kids.
A wonderful (but pricey!) place with lots of activities for the kids. Bothmy 2 yo and 6 yo love it!
Great place to bring small children ages 2-8. Plenty of activities and hands on exhibits. The water room was great with many intricate details very cool. Expect to spend an hour in the water room minimum. The water room does close one hour before the museum so make sure you account for that. The other first floor rooms are great. There is a gem hidden upstairs with a ship for the Kids to play on, a Hawaiian airlines plane and a small village with various dwellings from around the pacific. Definitely enough in this place for multiple visits.
My 20 month old granddaughter loves this place. We stayed about 2 hours. She could easily have stayed another 2. This place is so well thought out and age appropriate. My 4 year old grandson loves it too. With the kamaaina rate and senior discount, I only pay $7 to come. My grandchildren have an annual pass, courtesy of the other grandparents. Highly recommend the Discovery Center!
My kids love this place
Kinda more for she's 5 and up not really toddlers. But it is something to look forward to
My kids enjoy every visit we have at this place...very informative for the kids.
The children love it here. There is so much to learn and explore. We got a season pass, so we have been visiting the last 5 weeks and still haven't gone up stairs. Just yesterday we discovered they have an outdoor area open from 11:00 am til 12:00 pm. Where the children fed worms, planted seeds, watered, observed catipillars and larva. They have cool bubble stations and outdoor play. We will continue our visits until they no longer cry when we leave or wake up and ask if we are going today. The open hours are short but don't be detoured the children can't take to much more than 3 or 4 hours at a time
A great learning place for ages 2-10 yr old children
My kids, age 4 and 1 loved it but I was not impressed. Admission was expensive, membership is a lot for a family of 4, about $300. Seemed a bit dirty and old. Staff wasn't overly friendly. Wish the outdoor space was open for more than an hour. I was hoping this would be a good indoor activity for hot summer days but too expensive to more than just as a special occasion. I won't be rushing back.
Awesome. Teaches and encourages imagination
The Center was very educational, real, well-planned and interactive! My daughter loves the experience and still talking about her dressing up to pick pineapples. In each section, there is dress-up clothes included to make the experience more authentic, I really loved. I would definitely recommend this for any parent with young children.
Great for children, very educational. Only negative is the homeless outside the building.
So cute. My 2 and 6 year old love it, as well as my niece and nephew (4 and 7).
This children's museum is incredible. You could easily spend the entire day here as it's so huge and has a ton of activities.
This place is dope for kids. I have a 2.5 year old and a 15 month old and they both had a bunch of fun and there were older kids there too having a blast. Super interactive and there are three levels of fun and set ups of all kinds and hits every senses. Recommend. It's a great way to spend a hot or rainy afternoon. Nap time sure to follow. Only beef is there is no food or drink allowed so make sure and feed your kids before you go. Oh and there is only one bathroom and it's located on the lower level. That's not convenient.
Great place for toddlers to learn while having fun! so many activities that will keep your child busy for hours. The staff is friendly and accommodating.
Michael Finley Dad Libby Mom
This is a must for families with young children. There are so many different activities and things to look at. My kids 1 and 5 enjoyed role playing in the airplane as the pilot and flight attendant. We also enjoyed sitting in an oversize chair while reading a book in the fairytale library. My kids enjoyed picking pineapples and dressing up as Nemo while watching themselves on a TV screen. There is a fire station, police station, post office, auto shop, grocery store, bank, bus and too many more to list. We felt rushed in the few hours they were open. There is so much to do that I wish they didnt closer until later in the day. I rate it a 5 because I believe it is totally worth taking the kids to play and learn while having a blast. If we were ever to go back to Oahu we would definitly go back to the Childrens Discovery Center
Lots is things for the kids to explore but the cost for entrance is pricey.
Get the year pass :)
Learning how life on this earth is on a day to day basis and the way people , job's and the way we do things can affect our lives.
Went here for my son's kindergarten field trip with his class. The employees were super nice and attentive to the kids and everyone had a blast. I definitely want to take my son back to explore the place more one day.
Fun, educational and interactive place to bring kids of all ages! My son had a blast and loved the variety of exhibits offered! He didn't get to go through all of them because they close soooo early
My toddler son loves this place so I rate it four stars. I would give it five if the center updated the play areas, but there's still a lot for the little ones to do here. Downstairs has a big play area for infants and toddlers, as well as a little fishing activity in addition to some of the main attractions. It's basically a little indoor city for the little ones, including a market, doctor's office, repair shop and fire station to name a few. Upstairs your little ones can take a journey to the different countries (small exhibits) and get a small experience of the different cultures. If you are visiting an need some place for your little ones to run around and have a good time, this is a nice place. If you have the annual membership, which I think is pretty reasonable if you go often, then it's a good place to kill some time while your little ones have a blast. Be aware, lately the homeless have camped out near one of the smaller parking lots, but there's still a lot of options with the nearby Kakaako parking lot.
Great place for kids to play and learn!
Great little place for little ones to learn about Hawaii. Even has a hawaiian airlines exhibit where kids can play pretend landing and taking off a plane. Its a hoot!
Its a great exposure specially for toddlers and pre-schoolers
I would have to fully agree with a previous users review from 4 years ago that still rings true (J Hill). The review hit all major talking points that I wanted to address, other than the fact that you require cash to purchase food items but fail to have an ATM on the premises.
Unfortunately we never made our visit. Just as we got out of the car, we found a vile of propo flo 28, anesthetic for animals behind a police car.. The area is plagued with homeless people, and as other reviews on tripadvisor, there have been problems with people vandalizing vehicles. I should have listened to my wife and not gone there, you don't feel safe. I don't understand how you have a children's center around this kind of environment or allow this kind of activity around the center especially with police around. The center does look cool but at what price. No thanks..... Fyi this is the same drug Michael Jackson died from, from what i gather.
It's a fun area for kids to play inside away from the summer heart. It does feel a bit dirty and germy, but definitely a fun place to interact with your kids
Great place for children. However, its surprising that they don't offer weekly or monthly passes in addition to the yearly membership. It gets expensive if a visiting family wants to take kids two or three times within short time frame.
We spent a morning here when we wanted a break from the beach during our vacation. The center featured a lot of exhibits we've seen at other children's centers like the international village, displays about the body, mini city with a fire station and that type of thing, but there were a few unique Hawaiian exhibits that our little guy really enjoyed. They have a pineapple picking display that was really fun. I felt like the water area was exceptional. The center also has a lot of great areas for smaller kids and I appreciated the sectioned off areas where our toddler could have some fun without battling bigger kids. Definitely worth a visit if you want a kid focused day on your vacation.
I really appreciate this place , bring back a lot of childhood memories! Good learning tool for ages 2 1/2 on up !
Great place for kids. The 3rd floor was under construction, but the available exhibits were entertaining. They're only open for 4 hours on weekdays, but it wasnt busy. We were able to get time with almost all of the exhibits alone. Kamaaina admission is $10 for anyone over 1 year old. There are a lot of homeless dotting the perimeter of the park, but they didnt seem to bother while we walked to the center.
My kids loves this place.. they always get bummed to leave.
Some good things for children to see, experience and learn. A couple of hours of family fun
It's a fun place for kids
So many things to do for little kids to do here! But it's a bit pricey. Note that the rainforest area close one hour before the center close.
Good place a kid can blue off some steam
One of my favorite places to take the kids. The hours are a little inconvenient. The places for he kids to play are excellent. The food on the snack shop isn't that good. Bring your own and eat at the beach after.
Love taking my son here!
Awesome spot for kids. Lots of learning fun activities for all ages.
*Hours should be longer on weekdays. It can take more than a few hours to explore all three levels and take time to eat. (Or offer cheaper weekday rates.) *Kids cafe is nice. *Prices are a bit high for "Hawaii's children"- I'm surprised a place that can offer so much for its community isn't more affordable for the average local family. *Bishop Museum ($65) and Honolulu Zoo ($40) have better membership rates. ($200 for a family of four should also include free entrance to other events you offer) *You should not charge for kids under 2. Kids 2-6 should be half price. *Carousel should run daily unless you offer cheaper rates on weekdays. *I'd be more likely to get a membership or come more often, and travel the 40 minutes there, if your fees were less and hours were longer.
Very educational
great place to bring the kids and lots a fun activities
Just amazing. Every child should go at least once.
The Discovery Center is a nice place for kids to explore. It is great for school field trip. Kids learn and play best with their friends (not necessary with parents:( Nevertheless, I enjoy the wheelchair ramp, inside da mouth exhibit and the old time role stations where kids can play dress up.
Great place to bring your kids. From infant/toddler to intermediate school. aged kids. Gets a little crowded but staff is very friendly and tries to keep order. For there toddlers there are 2 main areas. My son is a toddler and has been going weekly for almost a year now. He still enjoys it.
A bit pricey but still a favourite even as the kids are getting older.
Not too crowded. Lots of interactive stations. Best for 8 and under.
It was huge (2.5 stories worth of exhibits) and tons of fun for my 1 and almost 3 year olds! Tons of stuff for older kids too, plan on spending a couple hours and still not seeing everything! Parking in the back of the building fills up quick on rainy days.
My granddaughter loved this place!
Brought my daughter here. $10 a person so $30 for the wife and daughter and I. You can spend the entire day there so it's worth it if you do. Tons of activities inside for the little ones. My daughter absolutely loved it. One problem is that it's in the area where there is literally a homeless city. tons of them in the area. Do not leave any belongings in your car as they break into cars often in the area.
Great hands on learning center for the children. Lots to discover in a fun environment.
Very cool place for children to play. Area is spacious and clean. Plenty of fun for parents as well!
This is the best children's museum in the entire United States! The entrance price is great, as well as the way the center is organized. Downstairs is dedicated to gigantic body functions, community service jobs, restaurant chef, police, dentist, baseball hitting practice, race cars, and then a whole room dedicated to reading with an actual library with about 500 books, a gigantic reading chair, a real storyteller/reader. Then the next two floors are dedicated to the other Polynesian countries with dress up clothes, play food, games, books, culture activities as well as an airline flight simulator that really works, and every area has full costume dress up for what ever the activity happens to be, such as a pilot, airline hostess, etc. If I lived here full time, I'd have a membership. It's fantastic!. Oh, and the cafe has the most reasonable prices I've ever encountered.
This place was one of the best things to do with my toddler. He absolutely loved it as did we. So much to see and do. Super friendly staff. Super clean environment. We only stayed about 2 hours but he could have played there all day. There is a cafe there to get food which is nice but they only accepted cash. Cant think of anyway this place can be improved exact cards accepted in the cafe
Love this place! So many things to do for children!
The children do not want to leave!
Wonderful place, my son and I spent most of the day here exploring! There is plenty to learn and do. From the mini "town" to play in. You can be a police officer, fireman, bus driver, banker, and much much more! There is a craft room, music area, play place and "movie theater" where you can dress up and act out your own movie! In the upper levels you an learn about other cultures and on the main level a "rainforest" area to learn and llay too (prepare to get wet though!). Their precipitation station is pretty darn cool and my son and I both enjoyed sending boats and toys floating down the river! They do ask that parents stay off their phones as much as possible and play with the kiddos. Strollers are permitted but you cant actually take them through so just leave them in the car. Please note there is an abundance of homeless folks in the area around the childrens center however they leave folks alone. Dont let it deter you! We can't wait to visit again soon!
Second time going there and its a great place to take kids and they learn and have a chance to play all day as well.
Great kids place. We could have easily spent another hour or two in addition to the two we did spend in the museum. If we come to Honolulu again it will be on our list to visit again.
I brought my nephews here this weekend. They had a blast! So much to see and do. I wish we could've stayed longer. 2 and a half hours was not enough time to enjoy the center.
Great place to take your kids on a weekend. If you have a group, you can schedule it ahead of time. This is my second time going, and I went with my son's school, Pre-K. All of the kids had a blast. I rated it 4 Stars bc they only took cash for the snack bar, and the place doesn't change much over the years.
Great place for younger kids
It's okay, but expensive mainly because adults have to pay which, for a family of 3 is a lot.
Love bringing the kids here. Tons for them to do where you can easily spend a couple of hours. Only true negative is the surrounding area with the homelessness. However they have no bothered us when we have gone to the Center.
This was the first time my husband and I have been here. We took our 2 year old granddaughter who had an absolutely great time. There were so many areas for her to explore and a ton of pretend play from doctor's office, police station, firestation, Banks, stores (where they can take a shopping cart, pick the items from shelves and every check out their own items at the register); another area has a very realistic Hawaiian Air plane to sit in or play pilot or flight attendant. So much to do in such a short time. Their hours are 10am -3pm. We barely made it out the door at closing time before our granddaughter was already asking to come back again!!
Superb place for children of all ages to learn through play with their family, and experience the wonders of the world through the many exhibits. From learning about the human body to exploring different cultures, this place is fun and beneficial for kids, and allows them to get hands on with their learning.
Cute and educational fun for kids, staff was super nice and interacted with the kids as well.
Very fun. A wonderful place to take the kids, gets a bit crowded throughout the day. A little upset with price for my 1 yo....same as everyone else.
Hawaii Children's Discovery Center is a children's museum located near Honolulu, Hawaii's Kaka'ako Waterfront Park. Founded in 1989 the 38,000 sq ft (3,500 m2) museum receives over 200,000 visits from children and their families every year. It is a non-profit organization with tax-exempt status, and a member of the Association of Children's Museums
The kids love it. They get to pretend at different occupations, learn some science facts, and explore. Parking is usually pretty good.
I work for a Kids Club at a hotel and the children absolutely loved it. They didn't speak English but exploration has no language.
A little pricey for an outdated place, but kids loved it. I saw no point in paying 12 dollars for an infant to go in.
It is a decent place, but for the price of membership and what they have available, it is not worth obtaining the family membership. I have been to four different ones and this one is the least maintained.
My kids had a blast running around and playing dress up
Great collection if things for kids to play with. Hawaii homes are so small, a lot of these toys are just not feasible for your home. Lots of leaning opportunities. My daughter uses to attend the toddler time, we may go back if our scheduling works out better. Only gripe is the large classes that come in. Sometimes it's not too bad with 1or 2 schools there. Today was OK, seemed like each child had a guardian with a particular school. But I've been there when 1 teacher takes in what seems to be 20-30 kids. Those kids run wild, and quite honestly physically destroy the toys, while ruining the experience. I get they pay bills by admissions. But sometimes it's just WOW REALLY?!?
Really great hands on place for kids of all ages! My 9 month old had a blast as well as my 4 year old! My only complaints are that some of the toys are dirty/unable to be sanitized and it doesn't seem like it's sanitized properly as many people who visit get sick
My daughter loves it! Great job staff
Our little guy had lots of fun exploring today at the Discovery Museum. Lots of things to do with other little ones for socialization and learning.
A very enjoyable day for kids 0-8
Good place to bring young children to learn about the world around them. Some exhibits are a little old but still very good.
Awesome! Our 2 little girls spent hours going thorough the multiple floors of role playing/play area exhibits. Workers were always present to assist and clean areas for visitors. The building itself is near a large homeless encampment so the parking areas were a little unkept and smelly.
Didn't know about this place till I was searching on Google, on what to do around the area with a toddler. This place is awesome, and apparently this gem has been here for years. Great place for children, and lots to do. The family can easily stay for 2.5 to 3hours. I would've gave a 5 stars however... just park your vehicles at the Kakaako Park, parking.
Loved the place, so did my 2 year old. Not enough time to do everything which is great because you will not get bored ever. If your child was bored (one of the reviews), I am sorry but that is your child having a problem...not this place. Or maybe the child was too old for this (I recommend ages 2-5). Cafe has limited healthy options and reasonable prices. Membership is worth it if you go once a month at least. Parking is free. I found this easy to find with GPS. I also thought it was neat and clean....did notice that staff is NOT smiling. Cheer up...it is a childrens place staff!!!
