Beautiful house! Amazing gardens! I loved seeing what it looks like now, and how they changed it for the Hunger Games movie. Well worth the entry fee! Go early in the day when fewer visitors are there! Ask the living character guide for a song or tune in the piano, and she's happy to oblige! Great stories about the collections in the home! (Don't just look, ask! You'll be pleasantly surprised at all you learn.)
I really enjoyed visiting the history center. It was a perfect way to spend the day in this beautiful city!
JUST INCREDIBLE ! My wife and I took the tour of the Swan House and Smith Family Farm recently while taking a break in Atlanta. We had a grand old time walking through this beautifully designed and restored mansion. We loved it !
Beautiful place with great tour guide in historical costume. Historical reenactment by museum staff member who brings history to life. A tour with the architect of the home. An extensive tour of all 4 levels of the home.
It's just wonderful. Great atmosphere. Everybody was nice. Love to come back.
Beware if you are a minority, the staff at the entrance of Swan House will impress you with a real feel as if you were living in the past.
Great place to get together with friends
Be nice if they tell you more about the rooms you get to go into.
Lots of old stuff to learn about and the in-character tour guide that played Phillip the architect was 10/10.
Breathtakingly lovely. Marvelous decorative arts collection.
Excellent museum with a wonderful, knowledgeable staff.
This place is just amazing and well worth a visit! One of the history center staff here told me that 95% of all the furnishings and portraits are original to the mansion when the Inman family lived here in the early 20th century. The farm house and cabin nearby were moved from other Atlanta suburban locations, and the farm house has sheep in a small barnyard area in front of it, and a loom inside with which they've made a few things out of the wool. The museum and cyclorama are very interesting as well, making the small price of admission worth every penny spent!
We got a "little" lost as to when/where to get our tickets. They had a private event happing in the cabin by the entrance and the guy that was directing the event guests from the house visitors sent us to the house. When we got there, from the back as the parking lot is closer to the back of the house, we were greeted by a gentleman who told us we needed tickets (no kidding!) And we could only get them at the visitor's center. Guess what? It was 3:15 and they close at 4! We ran to the visitor's center and got our tickets. When we made it back we were told that our tickets don't give is access to "behind the scenes" tour. At that time we just wanted to see the house - we would love to take the extra tour but we couldn't make it back because we would need to purchase the extra at the visitor's center. Long story short: start your your from the visitor's center and ask, ask, ask! Ask about what they offer!!
I was amazed on the history and knowledge of the employees my hat comes off to Mr. James Trappio on doing a great job there...Keep living life to the fullest!
went to a private party. fabulous venue. would be amazing for a wedding
Beautiful and full of knowledge! Definitely would recommend for a visit.
Well preserved home with all the furniture. And you can get real close. The property is great.
Loved it. Great day touring the house and grounds.
Beautiful location, ticket agent was wonderful saving my visiting family money signing up my wife and I for a yearly membership and using guest passes. Now we can revisit the landmark anytime, although it would be preferable without the little one. Not the most mesmerizing experiences for them.
This place is worth every penny. The staff is friendly, the grounds just keep opening up more and more surprises as you walk around. You could spend hours in the Swan House alone, but be sure not to miss the other exhibits inside. Even better is that your ticket works for an extended amount of time at the Margaret Mitchell house, so you don't feel like you have to hurry over there in the same day.
This was President Snows house in the Hunger Games movie! It was such a serene and beautiful area to roam around on a Sunday morning.
Olden Goldie’s worth visiting
A gorgeous estate, and one that makes Atlanta unique. (Part of the Hunger Games was also filmed here.)
Delightful!
Very impressive historic house and property. The house and actors are great; it really feels like you are in a different time. I found the grounds even more impressive. You are free to walk around as you please and there are paths that go all over the place. I didn't have enough time to see everything, but I imagine you could easily spend a day exploring the grounds.
Awesome place to visit! Sometimes when people don’t have tickets, they are properly pointed in the direction of the admissions desk so that they can experience this place in full! It would be a shame for other people’s circumstances to ruin your experience or even rate a place one star for it :)
Beautiful house with very helpful and informative house attendants and actors.
Nice place
Great place to go
They do some really cool events. Definitely a great place to visit. Keep an eye out for things like their Harry Potter night, and Christmas.
Wonderful food and atmosphere.
Snobby stuckup and rude is how I would describe the host. A family had missed the ticket booth because of lack of signage. The host was aweful to them in sending them to get tickets, I was embarrassed by the treatment of them and it ruined my experience.
We weren't aware of the other historical information and interesting places to see on the property. We liked it very much, it is very well preserved. If you're a history buff, this is a place to checkout!
I love this place
This was a great place to see early 1900s wealthy living. The hosts did a great job of making it feel real
This place is gorgeous!
The most information on Atlanta the ante bellum, and the civil war that I have encountered in years.
First timer, soon to return. Great date day with my bride. Among best sites in the ATL if you want to understand the true Atlanta.
Interesting look into history and fun place to look around.
Me and my guys disassembled and relocated their statue and here are some photos
really nice
Beautiful place to visit. Delicious food in restaurant.Great customer service.
A lot of history at the house. Great tour guide.
The actors/guides provided an entertaining and enlightening look into the private lives of an interesting family from a different time.
Beautiful estate. Worth the visit there.
Gorgeous house to visit
So much to do and see here. Definitely recommend eating at the restaurant at the Swan House. The grounds are beautiful. Great day trip!
Beautiful place. Some scenes from the hunger games were filmed in the house
Awesome place to visit! I fell in love with the kitchen but there is so much neat history here!
Great place , Worth to pay a visit. Elegant buildings, furniture,
The visit was awesome! We got the chance to hear the woman that presents the place playing piano and singing. It was a delight!
The "Swan House" has some incredible architecture and interior design, but the icing on the cake were the historians/actors wearing period clothing who portray some of the original house staff. The behind the scenes tour was a nice treat also.
Absolutely a great place to visit! Beautiful!
Amazing place and impeccable venue and service
The Swan House was alright, but the History Center was very well done, diverse, and very interesting.
Enlightening.
Nice.
So nice and the person working there was excellent?
In fith grade I had Cotillion here, and it tought me crucial manners and, more importantly, the food is great and it is very nice.
Of you want to know about Atlanta history... You should go there.
This was a cool place to visit. Took my wife here on a date since she likes old historical homes. The park is great too, quiet stroll in the middle of the city, we loved it. The staff at the Swan House is very friendly and offer lots of details about this historical place.
Very fun place to spend some time. Especially when it is pretty outside. Every part of it is gorgeous and the gardens are great too
The library is as they left it.
Excellent, national level museum and grounds. Historical facts and cultural displays are well-curated and surprisingly expansive. Plan for a whole day, especially if you explore the grounds featuring early frontier homes, cabins, working farms, Swan House, and beautiful woods.
This is a cool house, but a lot has changed over the years. Some of the rooms have been stripped bare and repainted for shooting movies. For those that love history, check out the Herndon Home Museum not too far away. The collection there is more complete and the story is inspiring.
Fun trip through the historic home.
Beautiful. Really enjoyable tour for a relaxed day. Much to see, truly an immersive experience.
Loved this home and grounds...staff was very informative and friendly...must see
Great tour guide. Especially the architect
Swan House is an amazing look back at the post antebellum South, what wealth could build post reconstruction, in the South. Highly attentive docents and great period furnishings.
One of the best examples of lavish 1930s homes. This is part of the Atlanta History Center. Well worth the short walk from the center. Furnishings are superb from the main living areas to the kitchen. Grounds are beauty.
We visited over the weekend. The house is maintained well. There are information sheet available for reference near the entrance. Wish to have a tour guide inside the house.
It's an amazing place. There is quite a bit to see. Unfortunately we didn't get to see everything. If this is your first time there, you need to go into the Atlanta History Center and buy your ticket. It's in the back of that building. You can walk around to see more.
The tour guide was great.
Interesting history but crowded out by party planners
Really cool place to visit. There are character actors, and it feels like truly stepping back in time entering the place. It also serves as president Snow's Mansion in the hunger games films and they offer special behind the scenes tours.
I love that you can get into the whole house and touch much of it. It really helps you to immerse yourself into the history.
The Swan House was the picture perfect setting for my wedding! The event coordinators was wonderfully helpful and make the day go flawlessly! Thank you Steven!
Absolutely beautiful
Self guided tours. Nearly all rooms accessable, all beautifully preserved from that period. Make sure you set aside time to visit the basement gallery of a quite extensive export porcelain collection housed there.
Simply amazing.
If you are in Atlanta I would say this is a must. My wife and I visited this house in the morning before it was open and took great pictures. Later on we went through the Atlanta History Center and toured the house and surrounding attractions. It's a beautiful house and a reasonable price.
Beautiful walk through history!
Nicely presented and preserved. A show case.
Interesting perspective of upper class life in the 1920s with period furniture and decorations.
Nice place to see historic house settings
Had a wonderful time at the Halloween event. The inside exhibit was very informative and interesting. The outside grounds are breathe taking
Very interesting place...there was an African American woman standing in the kitchen dressed as "the help" while the other employees were not dressed to reflect that era.
Awesome so much bigger than expected
In addition to the history museum, the mansion and gardens here really help a visitor gain a more true understanding of Atlanta and the South's past. We should always be clear when looking at the past from the present -- and not be afraid.
Cool stop in Atlanta. We did a behind the scenes tour which was fascinating.
Such an interesting look at the early to mid 1900s. The in-character staff adds a background and ambiance to the experience. I prefer the historical perspective but as a fan of the Hunger Games series visiting the set enhanced the visit value.
beautiful and elegant!
Just an amazing place!
Tourguide was very knowledgeable about the history of the house, it's owners and the architect.
My girls still love this place 13 and 9
Very cool place the walk around the experience the historic scenery. It's cool that someone lived in the house until the 1970's. The rest of the history center really transports you back in time. You can checkout old houses, a blacksmith and walk the grounds.
Our group recently hosted a 4-hour private event for about 40 ladies, downstairs in the Bellenita Room. We had the Swan's Favorite luncheon. The classic chicken salad, frozen fruit salad, and cheese straws were enjoyed by all, as was the French silk meringue swan. The wait staff was pleasant, helpful, and efficient. We used their sound system for our speaker. The most popular part of the entire day was the delightful gift shop on the main floor! The majority of ladies left carrying shopping bags!
Beautiful house with a great staff!
Wonderful wedding weekend
Great place loved it, for the price of the ticket , you have a lot to see
Fantastic experience as a Part of the Atlanta History Center. The "Swan House" is a masterpiece of architecture and walking through it, really makes you expect, that Mr. Gatsby will Walk down the mainstairs, anyway time. It is really worthwhile, looking Ingo every single room, incl. the bathrooms and compare how the people lived and enjoyed, or lived and worked.
Great architecture and they let you roam the house with actors in period costume to answer your questions. We missed the tour but still enjoyed walking through the house. You can even sit in the Model T out front and take pictures.
Nice museum, cool train, pretty house, minus two stars for making the Cyclorama presentation political. Gettysburg's educates on battle facts, unlike this one, which focuses on the faults of a few men.
Plan on spending time strolling through old Georgia!
We were greeted by ‘the owner’ of the house, which really threw us all as the actor in full period costume was so believable. He showed us the first couple rooms and then ‘the architect ‘ took over. He gave so much interesting detail and information that we never would have seen without having them pointed out. He made the 1930’s really come alive with his information and pictures. The history of this house was so fascinating, especially at a time the country was in a depression. He took us upstairs and continued a detailed tour from an architectural point of view that the four of us were really interested in. People would listen for a few minutes and continue on there own, but we were captivated by our tour guide. We finished outside in the gardens after thanking him for his time.If you go I hope you have a guided tour. It makes it so much more fun and was the highlight for us.
Beautiful estate, and interesting experience.
Beautiful historical home. The children's room has wood toys for tots to play with.
Well preserved and told a very descriptive story. There is more than a simple old house but lots of side notes and accompanying artifacts. I must say that at $24 the whole museum (not just the Swan House) was a turn off, so I wasn't surprised that the exhibit was quite empty at the time I visited. However, once in there it is a good experience.
Beautiful facility. Very elegant decor. Only issue is that it is hard to locate if you have never been there before.
Nice place for lunch.
Beautiful, modern new building and gorgeous rustic gardens and paths. Membership is a very affordable option and the Swan House and all the different exhibits make for an enjoyable visit. Employees are very pleasant and helpful.
Gorgeous mansion. Must visit to appreciate the architecture and the beautiful gardens.
Lovely to visit! A must see~
Enjoyed my visit here. Beautiful house/grounds.
Pretty cool if you enjoy history and architecture.
Interesting look at life in a different era in Atlanta. Many parts of the house still look like they did around the turn of the century, and they have performers here, dressed in period costumes, who are very well educated on the house, the culture and the history of those times. They are happy to talk to you (while staying in character) and answer questions that you have. Ample free parking. Definitely worth a couple of hours.
Cool 1920s Gatsby-ish mansion from a financially successful broker of corn & cotton. Share cropping makes lots of cash for the People at the top. Excellent example of pre Great Depression excess.
Historic plantation house. Interesting to visit.
Great look at how the rich lived in the 1930s
Fun historic place with guides dressed in time period clothing in character! Had a great time chatting with them and getting a good sense of the time period and history. Great place to take visitors and loved walking around the ground.
Well worth the admission cost and is a must see in Atlanta!
This is an incredibly Hidden Gem in the center of Atlanta. There are 30 Acres of Gardens and grounds to walk and the structure is absolutely astronomical and fresa. There is such a mix of different elements of other European countries. The building reflects a deep tone of Italy and French and also Spanish influences. The gardens are lovely. The museum is also super interesting as well with lots of exhibit and there is a 360-degree painting of the burning of Atlanta which is a wonderful thing to see. You also get a ticket that's valid for nine days to see the Margaret Mitchell house in your admission so it's quite worth it. The coffee shop is wonderful and there's also a little cafe that serves authentic and delicious foods that very few throughout the week. The locals take advantage of this and I recommend that visitors do as well.
Beautiful house showing southern history.
Absolutely stunning! We went on the self guided tour and were able to really enjoy this historic house. Must see if you are visiting Atlanta!
Great experience. I'm from the UK and found it fascinating. Lots to see and do and very polite staff.
One of the unique places in Atlanta!!!! Definitely to go to if you are visiting Atlanta.
I am not completely interested in seeing old rich people houses but my wife is. As far as old rich people houses goes this one is not bad. They let you get very close to the future. For example, there are toys in the children's room that kids can play with. I suppose it is well suited for weddings and they were set up for one while we were there. (Not sure why people want to get married at some old rich person's house but to each their own) All in all it is a novelty more than anything else.
Beautiful historic home in original condition
Beautiful first level. Loved it.
The house and grounds were stunning but the staff was horrible and rude, they were odd about where you could take pictures, we were in designated photo spots but they claimed we were not (And I mean in the grounds outside, not on the inside as you would typically expect from a historical site). The price was high and overall it was a lackluster experience. Come on Atlanta: you can do better!
Came here to work a wedding. Beautiful place
Our tour guide was dressed in period clothes and spoke as if she actually lived there and knew the family personally. She was very personable.
Beautiful at Christmas.
Love visiting historical sights...lots of preservation at this site.
Great place...to experience a step back in history
Beautiful home with interesting history, well worth a visit.
I learned so much and it's such a fun beautiful place to visit.
Very interesting historical complex. The swan house is very well preserved. The gardens are amazing. Must see.
Such a lovely place. Food is really good!!
What a special place ! Well worth a visit. Well worth taking time to step back in time and see this home lovingly restored - actors take parts to lend to the authenticity.
House was beautiful. Most of the staff/volunteers very friendly. Person playing the architect was shrill, rude, & unpleasant. Wouldn’t go back just for that. Really ridiculous how thus person ruins the experience.
Very interesting house to walk through. Carriage House restaurant was delicious.
You just cant get close enough to thr furniture for amazing photos
First, the Atlanta History Center was amazing. The Swan House however was a complete let down. The house is run down, as are the grounds. The staff is rude and inconsiderate. The map they give to visitors specifically says you are able to pose for photos, but when I and my boyfriend did so, the manager called security on us. The security officer was pleasant and understanding. The manager himself was unbelievably rude, accused us of not paying (even though we clearly had our stickers) and ruined the experience for us. We skipped the Swan Coach house for lunch because of him. He honestly should not be working with people.
Just not that interesting of a house. 21$ to see it is kind of nutty.
$20 to get in. TWENTY. TWO. ZERO. Even if you only want to see the Swan house.
I luv history. Traveling back in time with every visit that I make here. The staff is friendly and helpful with anything from answering questions, etc.
