Not a huge museum, but a fun way to use a few hours with the family.
Excellent museum! Great venue for various events and unbelievable observatory.
I have always enjoyed coming here ever since I was a little child. Always something new and exciting happening here and very educational
Beautifully laid out. Many options. Very nice live shows.
Looks tiny driving up to the building, continues to underwhelm in lobby. Just beyond the NASA Astronaut Training Aparatos you randomly find yourself entering a cosy clubhouse-style atrium/contained wildlife habitat area...naturally following the curve of the room all of a sudden a seemlessly incorporated show-type seating area appears & an intimate, un-mic'd, approachable team (of sorts) present some really lite & interesting bits of topical knowledge, in a manner like ive never before had the pleasure (I mean, TRUE Pleasure) of interactive-fun-learning. After the show, we joyfilly entered an almost endless array of nook-like areas, rooms, and exhibits that were lighthearted enough in their respective subject matters to keep our excitment level while at the same time grab attention in a way where--learning actually became fun and thrilling. then, the coolest earth inside out planitarium intimate show occurs just down the hall from the actual planitarium full show that lives up to the now higher expectation all of the prior exhibites throughout the museum have built up to this point.
Fun for everyone! Museum with changing exhibits, live animals and planetarium make it a great place for kids
I like it cause I went to see the play room they neat tho but I going again
This is the best of it's kind in the area. It is a great learning experience for all age levels. Make sure you schedule a time to go when performances are taking place. The museum as a whole feels dated. It could use some sort of revamping. There's a trail here that is good for exploring things you don't necessarily see everyday. They also have a small zoo-like area. Overall, this is a great activity for families. It does leave a bit to be desired though.
First Saturday of each month is free admission. Great place for the whole family.
For being an art and science museum they know nothing about animals. ALL of the reptiles there have inproper habitats, low heat, and barely any light to bask. Whats more they have bearded dragons housed together when these reptiles must have their own INDIVIDUAL enclosures since they are highly territorial. They have aquatic turtles with 1 basking light, in which the heat can’t even penetrate their enclosure. In my 4 hours at the museum I did not see one employee come to check/mantain the “mini zoo” when these animals but especially the reptiles are in need of care.
Very cool museum. My kids loved the live animal show. The planetarium is always fun and educational. Clean and well kept museum.
Always enjoy visiting, a great place to enjoy the afternoon with the family, a true treasure for young aspiring minds ....
Great great...kids loved it
Great place for families! Good price and good entertainment!
Got to go to the late night planetarium show. It was a lot of fun!
Very easy to get to. Staff was excellent and helpful. Will be back to see the rest of the exhibits.
Great for all ages, mostly aimed towards kids but there's still a lot to see and learn. Planetarium is okay but needs upgrading to be a little more modern. The projections were a little fuzzy and the animation they played after the constellations show was clearly a little dated in the way it looked.
So the Museum itself is great for family-friendly outings and doesn't cost a lot. The reason I'm giving a 3 star instead of a 5 star is because of the EXTREMELY RUDE OLDER LADY THAT WAS SITTING AT THE FRONT DESK. I really believe it will hurt her terribly is she were to smile. She had a very monotoned personality and absolutely no people skills. Horrible customer service when I was asking her questions about times and schedules for the exhibits and shows. She acted as if I were a complete inconvenience and bother to her sitting at her desk doing absolutely nothing and there weren't any other people in line or behind us. Only us. Myself, my daughter, and my two sons. Then to top off the disrespectful experience that we had from the very impression of walking through the doors of the museum was when I went to pay for our admission. I handed her my bank card as my payment option and besides the fact of her taking SOOOOOOO long to slide it in the reader when there was obviously no reason for her to lollygag around; when she slid it she said with a very agitated tone and loud (now there was another family in line behind me) "DECLINED!" I said uumm.. No ma'am. It shouldn't be declined.. She slid it again and this time I watched her and she hit the option for credit when there was also an option for debit. Well, it showed on the screen declined again and she just rudely put her hand out to me to hand me back my card. I pulled up my online banking on my phone and even showed her my balance (she seemed not to care) I asked her if she can run it as debit and she without hesitation and rudely said "NO, we don't do debit here." I said well there is an option for it and there is money on that so can you try it. So she was very disturbed and frustrated at me by now and did as I asked. She said "put your pin in. We don't do it normally because this box is too heavy and big to keep picking up and turning around." And guess what?....YEP... It went through. She litteraly handed me the recipet told me to keep it if I needed to go out and come back in and that was it. No thank you or have a good day and oh forget it if I was expecting a smile from her. So there you have it. Im a firm believer in premiere customer service when interacting with the public no matter where you are working. Volunteer or payroll.
This place was awesome. We went here for mother's day. There was so much to see especially visiting the planetarium, the live animals of all kinds, and even the skeletal exhibit along with the polar bear. They also have some nice art pieces that they're working. Admission prices are pretty low. I'm glad I stopped by.
The Museum of Arts and Sciences is a primary attraction of Middle Georgia. My father brought me here regularly as a child. I have very fond memories of the animal show and Planetarium. I kept meaning to bring my children but it is a little far from us, so I put it off. It took a field trip through their virtual school for me to finally bring them. So much has improved! The Discovery House and the Nature Trail especially, and I hear even more are in the works! They did an excellent job of tailoring tours to our large group, and all of the children seemed to be having a great time. My children loved the animal show and Planetarium as well, though my little one fell asleep. She needed a nap after all of the excitement! We will have to come back regularly on our own!
Great place..went during the Christmas Tree show. Liked the live animals. Planetarium show put my husband the sleep
Decent place. We traveled 1 1/2 hours each way for the purpose of visiting the planetarium. Guess what? It was broken. It's worth a visit but the nearby Air Force Museum is nicer.
Great place, especially for kids! Always a great time
Nice place to see nature in Macon.
I went with my daughters school for her field trip So many rude people who work there especially Amanda Vining they need kid friendly people who love their job!
A great museum for kids as well as adults. A must stop in Macon. Parking could use some shade.
Cashier told us our two year was three according to pricing then told us she couldn't get out change because she "has too many people in line". Then our son had to use the bathroom. Well too bad, apparently you can't go back in once you leave the show. The planetarium show is NOT kid friendly.
Would like a small eatery to be added, and more opportunities to view the night sky work telescopes.
We have an annual family pass here every year. It’s a great place to go, especially on a day where you need to be indoors, even outdoors! Lots of stuff for the kids to see and do, even a nature trail outside. The animal shows and planetarium shows are fun.
The gift shop was really nice. I wish they would give a discount on all items instead of it being a minimum of $5 per item.
Gracie's 7th Brithday Party,,, AWESOME
Wow - what a gem in Macon for families to enjoy!!! We were visiting my family in central Georgia and met here on a rainy Sunday. I wish we had something this nice in Atlanta, although it would definitely be more expensive and crowded! The kids museum area was impressive - very clean and updated. There were lots of hands-on exhibits for the little ones to enjoy. We LOVED the mini-zoo and the animal presentation was so fun and educational. I wish I could remember the young zookeeper's name - he did a great job in the show!! All of the staff were super friendly and helpful. The planetarium was also entertaining. We easily spent over 3 hours and prob would have stayed longer had we brought snacks :) This would be a great place for a birthday party!
We’ve always enjoyed coming to the Arts and Science museum, until today. We’ve brought our son since he was a year old, never had any issues. Today is my daughter’s first birthday and her big brother wanted to “take her to outer space” at the planetarium. Knowing this to be an establishment specifically for children and learning, we were excited to have a fun family day. When we walked in and we paid our money to be there, the lady at the front desk told us about the planetarium show at 11:30, never once saying anything about babies or strollers. We took our seats inside of the planetarium before the show started, I was feeding my daughter a bottle and she was on the verge of falling asleep in the dark room. The man doing the presentation walked past us many times, and had MULTIPLE opportunities to quietly pull us aside and express his concerns about having our one year old with us. But no, instead he waited, and singled our family out over the microphone continuously until my husband couldn’t take any more. Then he says he’s “worried about crackers getting on the floor”.... she has no teeth! No one was eating crackers. The way he handled the situation was completely uncalled for, absolutely ridiculous, and some may even say humiliating. We will never step foot inside of this place again, and we will be sure to let everyone else know about the way we were treated. This is the experience we get to remember for our baby girl’s first birthday. Thanks! You may want to have a training session on professionalism.
Fun museum with so many activities to do!! The planetarium and animal shows were excellent!! We got to pet a few animals and hold an alligator
Took the granddaughter, it was very interesting. We had a good time, would recommend it to others.
Awesome place for the whole family. Something for everyone. Friendly staff and neat exhibits!
So much to do here! We use to come here on field trips when I was a child and now my kids get to enjoy it! They also have the dome with the stars, that's our favorite! ❤️ ⭐️ we love the museum!
I love going here. I especially like it that every Friday night I can see a Constellation Planetarium show and then go observe stars in the really powerful telescopes!
I was the director of the Mark Smith Planetarium from 1976 until 1980 and loved every minute of my work there. I've shared a few photos of my experience there as both the planetarium director and also as an earth science curator for the museum. I have so many fond memories of those days.
Love all that there is to do for kids. Lots of learning experiences from the art to the mini zoo and the planetarium to the imaginarium. Plenty to do for very little price.
Great family place for birthdays and wildlife
I really enjoyed my time with the kids there. I took another person's advice after reading reviews and went during the times when they were going to have shows. Overall it was great!
A truly amazing educational experience for adults and kids.
It's so cold there
A pretty underrated museum for all it's got. Shark exhibits, a planetarium, reptiles, and some fun stuff upstairs too. Didn't get a chance to check out the treehouse before they closed, so I'll have to go back
Great place for the kids ( my kids loved it despite the rudeness I saw from the staff) but staff was actually rather rude. Could have easily had five stars if the staff had been more polite.
I loved going here today with my family! There really is a lot to do and see. Many of the attractions are interactive so they will hold the attention of children of all ages. The prices were extremely fair, even for current students. The staff was especially helpful and courteous. We were visiting from out of town, but if we are every in the Macon area again, we will be sure to visit. Wonderfully fun and informative time for all ages!
