As you can see it has an average rating is almost the best one, and it's based on a large number of feddbacks, so we may conclude that the assessment is very reliable. If many people have bothered to rate when they've done well, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to set tatings when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Museum corresponds to the category of Art museum.
A great collection of art. Also check out Lamar Dodd School of Art.
Very interesting. I wish we had more time to explore! Great tour guides.
Nice place. Came here for a wedding. Didn't get to check out the whole venue but it is beautiful as you drove up. Apparently you can rent the venue out.
Wonderful exhibit from Florence! A good representation of various important artists.
Always something beautiful to enjoy
Piezas interesantes, muy amable el personal.
Free entry - donation is appreciated. 3 galleries. 1 is temporary. And the contemporary art is dope. This gallery also houses works from realllllllly well known artists. There's something for everyone.
I have been here many times but I didn't know that there more rooms inside for events like the one we did this June 22, 2019, hosting the 2019 Mandela Washington Fellows at UGA. Guests, fellows, program officers all had fun. Others had a chance to know more about African countries. Great place for cultural event in Athens.
Nice museum. Very interesting art. Worth the trop
It is beautiful!
A little small but very good paintings, the Renaissance and Medieval areas are totally worth it.
Beautiful, free, and uncluttered. The staff are friendly and the halls are spaced enough where you're not bumping up against others trying to look at art.
Fantastic, helpful employees. Great lighting. Wonderful variety of exhibits.
It is a great place to visit. They also have a small cafe.
Especially love their Family Days!
Nice gem in Athens. Closed on Mondays
Nice, free. The exhibits were great!
The Georgia Museum of Art is a free art museum with a really good collection. The museum is divided in to wings. One is the temporary exhibits and the other is the permanent collection. It's worth giving yourself 90 minutes to two hours and to give yourself time with the permanent collection.
Great exhibit. Some Abstract Art. I was able to make my own abstract and make a photo of it to post. I really enjoyed this visit to the museum. Also Art that President Roosevelt approved to encourage the country that America was growing again.
Wonderful
Love visiting there
Wonderful Ricard Hunt show. Small. Permanent collection, lovely setting, worth the trip.
The museum changes quite frequently since they have entire areas dedicated to traveling exhibits. I was shown around by a friend who goes to the college and I thoroughly enjoyed most of the art available. My only complaint is that one …
Very enjoyable, and a great way to spend some time on a short visit to Athens!
Very interesting and inspiring
This is a smallish teaching museum on UGA's campus. They had some very beautiful pieces and well curated collections. I felt like I was in a smaller version of the High Museum. No charge, but they do take donations.
I enjoyed my time here, it was quiet and there weren't allot of people clogging the hallways.
Really enjoyed it. They had to run me out at closing time.
Great selection
Excellent museum experience. Went on a quiet afternoon an basically had the place to ourselves.
It was a good experience
Free charge, cute gift shop, interactive area, and a wonderful permanent collection.
Very relaxing place to spend an hour or two
Nice exhibits
Stumbled across this hidden gem in Athens, was blown away with the Russian collection and other exhibits. Nice contemporary works along with some old masters also. Certainly worth enjoying this museum when going to Athens!
The art there was beautiful and I enjoyed the way it was setup
This museum has a wonderful collection of Georgia artist and includes wonderful Pieces by other artists both American and internationally known. Bierstadt among the collection.
Free and nice
Definitely a place to go to for some serenity in otherwise bustling Athens. The art is beautiful and the building, itself, is an eclectic mix of techniques, materials, texture, colors and landscaping pounded into a single harmonic structural masterpiece that can hold it's own. Incredible amount of thought seems to have gone into most minute detail; Very well executed.
Its great but not awesome
Small public museum. Free parking and admission. They ask for donations only. We visited during the summer and it was very slow and quiet.
The staff are always friendly, and the art is always excellent
Very inspiring
Love spending an afternoon looking at what's up for the season.
First, this Art Museum is free of charge to enter and view the art. It has a massive amount of fine art of various shapes and sizes. There is a gift shop and a cafe located here as well. There are multiple floors that you can traverse and explore. Some areas do not allow photography of the art while other areas do. I recommend coming here. It truly is a fantastic museum.
Excellent exhibit, easy access from parking
One fine gem for UGA and Athens. Its great and beautiful. A perfect date idea or to simply satisfy that want to see art. Its always clean and never too busy. I would recommend it!
Great exhibit, people very friendly and helpful.
An amazing, free asset for the Athens community and visitors.
Has regular, standing exhibits and special exhibits and events ehich change. Paintings, furnishings, installations. Docents are super nice and were able to answer my questions. Seems there are facilities to accommodate small gatherings as I have seen what looks to be private events there. There is a small garden outside. There is a small kiosk coffee area with tables.
Love the exhibits and ease of parking. The guards are very good at their job, they watch and follow you CONSTANTLY. Doesn’t bother me, but some people may find it to be off putting and down right creepy.
Its gorgeous. Free parking lady freaked out when my boyfriend forgot to turn off the flash
A variety of ways to experience great art. I've always enjoyed GMOA but appreciate it even more after my Slow Art Day experiences. Sage Kincaid, who planned it, also runs the Yoga in the Galleries and Morning Mindfulness that have also added to my experience. I've recently learned more about how shows are curated and appreciate what a great job GMOA does of laying out exhibits and providing context. All of the art education I have received at GMOA has led to a greater appreciation of the permanent collection and many incredible temporary exhibits.
Modern facility with a range of offerings from traditional to modern. Also has a sculpture garden.
What can I say? This place is so beautiful, but definitely go during the daytime because they have a beautiful stained glass piece, and a couple of pieces outside, although it's mainly all indoors. The employee at the help desk was very kind and helpful, and the security guard wasn't creepy like at some other places where they watch over your shoulder constantly. Extremely clean building, and very beautiful art exhibits. Parking is free, but difficult to find from the main road. We drove right past it, and as we were sitting in the car, we saw several other people miss it and have to turn around too. But that's the only negative thing about this place! So so worth a trip! Perfect for date night too.
First Time caught me for Hours on ONE EXHIBIT!
Love it here.
Small art museum near University of Georgia. Had a great collection of art!
Always a great place to bring the kids for some edutainment.
Very cool art
For several years now, I've attended the "morning mindfulness" program offered at the museum -- one of many free activities open to the community. There are also films and special programs in the auditorium, Family Day activities, an interesting gift shop, and more. Not to mention the wonderfully varied exhibitions, both traveling and from the museum's permanent collection, which change throughout the year. If you sign up to become a Friend of the Museum, you can get emails about what's happening at GMOA and there's always something going on. We are so fortunate to have the state museum of art here in Athens!
You get to find everything in the museum, but the security personnel follows virtually everywhere.
Very imformative and I loved the art pieces. My son had to do a college project and I'm glad he invited me!
Nice and quiet. Was followed by staff which made it feel unwelcoming. I understand the need for 100 cameras but you shouldn't have to have security follow people. I was with my wife and daughter.
Great museum that exhibits traveling art collections from various artists.
A lovely little museum, with a great museum store.
Awesome. They also have an Ike & Jane's here!
Beautiful
We learned a lot in the short time we had to spend there. We really enjoyed our visit. The kids were able to experience many different kinds of art.
If you like art you should go
The amount of history and culture that is presented here is really wonderful! I enjoyed visiting for the few hours I was in town! They have some really interesting collections of art and I would love to visit again next time I'm in GA.
Extensive collection including metal sculpture and some prints. Especially intrigued by what seemed to be a Bouguereau but attributed to Elizabeth Gardner. Turns out it's his second wife.
Good
Worth a visit.
Nice free museum, takes a little over an hour to see everything.
Pretty art and an experience you should definitely have as a student or visitor to Athens. The walls are really pretty and make the experience cute. Security staff could improve, they're extremely rude and follow you everywhere.
This is a lovely museum with some great collections!
Beautiful Art Work and prices there
Attended the Art Cart (after school) with my 4.5 year old and had a fantastic time! The activities were hands-on, engaging and well-designed to be appealing to children of a variety of ages. We learned about shadows, played with clay to …
Enjoyable. Easy parking, low-key and interesting pieces included. Some of the staff seemed to be "followers". Otherwise, great trip for a rainy Sunday. Clean and odor-free. Accessible.
I would have given 5 stars because the art I saw was good and thoughtfully arranged. The landscaping was overgrown as though this building was not as important as the rest of campus and several rooms were locked. Why is this beautiful building be starved for funding. I am on the outside, but that is how it appears.
Very cool museum. We rented it for a party and our guests absolutely loved it. Why just rent a room to have a party when you can rent a museum? We love to see the new exhibits here too. Real undiscovered gem in Athens GA.
Excellent free museum.
I have mixed feelings toward this museum: on the one hand, it has an inviting vibe and the exhibition spaces feel comfortable, but on the other, its permanent collection is small (for a state art museum) and not really diverse. That being said, it is still worth a visit if you are in the area, as the museum is free, and its temporary exhibitions seem to get rotated quite often, which adds to the art experience.
Okay museum for a university. The collection is fairly small and has a narrow scope mostly aimed at Georgia subjects. The museum can be done in about an hour. I did not care for the fact that one's bags must be checked in a locker. I also really did not care for the fact that I felt like I was being followed by the numerous security guards at the museum. For a smaller museum it seems to have an abnormally large amount of security and they really do follow you like a hawk. As an avid museum and art lover it made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.
I live in athens and decided to take my parents to the art decision. The art wasn't bad, nothing to exciting, a large portion of the art was paper. The people rude the experience wasn't very great. The employees follow you like a hawk, in one portion they lady kept sighing like we were bothering her. There is cameras on every corner so I couldn't understand why they had people following you around from room to room. Majority of the signs were very small print and I was yelled at for being to close to a painting, so I could read a sign about it, that was made in 2011.
I like this place. It is a small place within UGA campus, but I feel comfortable spending my time here.
They host neat family friendly events on the weekends. Cool place to visit.
We had a great time going here. There are some great religious pieces and some very moving pieces. I particularly enjoyed the large piece in the back with different textiles. It is the large quilt hanging on the right side of the room :)
This is a hidden gem in Athens. Free entry makes it a great stop.
Well maintained
This is an overlooked gem right in the middle of the UGA campus. It's a free, open to the public w free parking museum filled w wonderful visual delights both in its travelling and permanent collections. Take a quiet stroll even if you're not an art affectionado; you'll learn something and be refreshed. And there is a gift shop w interesting items not found in most places. The only thing that was a disappointment was the attire of some of the staff. I think a jacket or uniform would look more professional than tank tops w midriffs showing. Plus it would help patrons know who the staff are. PS Wear your glasses as you are not permitted to get too close to the paintings, understandably.
My grandchildren, age 3 and 5, and I enjoyed our day trip. Especially covered parking since it was a rainy morning. Our visit was somewhat dampened by an incident where I asked the eldest which was her favorite piece. In her excitement she forgot the 'no touch' rule and as she reached to touch the piece this sour woman, who must have been following us, appeared from around the corner and scolded her as I was also saying 'don't touch'. I didn't think she had touched the piece and said so. That prompted the sour faced woman to tell me she did. I asked the child if she had touched the picture and she said she had. I attemted to apologize to the sour face but she was not accepting. So, if you go be aware that with children you may stalked and pounced on. Yes, I know, don't touch the pictures/art. But don't scare the kids. They enjoy art too!
Great selection of art, and it’s free so you can’t beat that. It is always nice to leave a donation, but leaving a small donation is still much better than prices at other art museums.
Beautiful venue for a wedding
This is an excellent regional art museum. Has rotating exhibits and is a great place to visit multiple times in a year
Great museum.
Yet another great experience at the University of Georgia Museum of Art.
Fantastic museum! We were there for hours and we were throughly impressed by the diversity of art. It was a day well spent. No admission fee and free parking just steps away from the entrance. We will be visiting this great museum again. A suggestion, were possible, more benches to sit and really study, absorbing the art work. The more time you spend observing the more you appreciate.
Fun for a quick visit! Small but representative selection of art
Well worth a visit! Permanent collection of Americana and temporary exhibitions... I caught one showing Renaissance Italian works. Leave a donation to help the museum... NO admission charge!
Great museum. Why rate less than 5?
This place is one of the treasures of the University of Georgia. In addition to you beautiful and inspiring art. You can read the stories of Georgia artist and major supporters of the arts. Thanks to everyone who contributes and to the staff that make this a fantastic place to visit.
The museum changes fairly frequently since they have entire areas dedicated to traveling exhibits. I was shown around by a friend who goes to the college and I thoroughly enjoyed most of the art available. My only complaint is there was one employee that was particularly rude to my friend. My friend had a completely sealed container of water and the employee was trying to make us walk all the way downstairs and get a locker for it. We ended up just putting it on a table outside of the exhibit room.
Great art museum. An oasis on a hot summer day, or any time
Fabulous!
Very nice new Russian collection
Lovely small museum with a pretty good variety of art encompassing different media. Free, by donation makes it a great value. Glad we made the stop
My daughter and I enjoyed the exhibits and the family activities that were going on the day of our visit.
Always a pleasure to see special exhibits.
